Christian Science on Steroids?

The Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East was just given to me by a Buddhist friend. I had never heard of Beard T. Spalding. What struck me the most is the similarity of these teachings - even in the phrases and words used - to Christian Science. It almost strikes me as plagiarism. Or is that a huge coincident?

Nonetheless, these books are fascinating and great food for thought and inspiration. Christian Science on steroids. It also reminded me of The Autobiography of a Yogi - a book I plan to re-read, after I re-read Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy.

These volumes offer great guidance and teachings for these difficult
times. We all have divinity within us and do not need permission of a church or organized religion to create our best life. These books are highly recommended to anyone starting their quest or already on the path to higher consciousness.

Okay folks, it's time to wake up. First, it's been written on good authority that Spalding wrote the first three volumes of this "fantasy" before he ever left the United States, later admitting having visited these "masters" while in his astro-body. And then there is the overall racist tone to his writing. I am amazed no one has yet to mention this in a review (at least none that I've read). Spirituality based on racism is not true spirituality. If I could give it less than a single star, I would. Wake up America!

Merely a middle-aged man's fantasy

I have to report that this book is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. It reads like a middle-aged man's fantasy of a young, beautiful, innocent-yet-wise woman who will have sex with him, show him the wonders of her world, and frolic in the forest like a wood nymph (she is forever twirling around, leaping, diving into the water, and treating the animals like how you would see a Disney princess treating them - like subservient placid pets (even wild wolves and bears!)). The character Anastasia seems to be based on the character Ayla from the Earth's Children series by Jean Auel. Those books are a much better read, don't waste your money on this one.

Out of all the books I read this one probably has had the biggest impact on me so far. It doesn't matter if the story described in the book really took place or if Anastasia really exists. It is Anastasia's viewpoint on God, Nature and Man's destiny what really matters. Direct answers are given here to these eternal questions by down-to-earth personality of a woman living in the depths of taiga. It is totally up to you to agree or not to agree with her viewpoint, but they are life's most important questions and the book gives you another chance to think about them. More so, to think about them in the uplifting and positive way. I highly recommend the book.

It was recommended that I read this series of books and so I bought the first 6 all at once. I have almost completed the 3rd book in the series, "The Space of Love". Thankfully, the writing has improved somewhat and the concepts put forth are beginning to gel. But this work seems neither channelled nor inspired from any higher source other than an "aware" human being. I slogged through the first book and it's constant references to the "technocrats" of Russia and it's new "entrepreneurs". I thought I had entered some kind of time-warped and yet oddly "Twilight Zone" way of thinking that smacked of the cold war wordplay of past decades. 1984 anyone? If this were truly information that was divinely inspired, there would not be the endless references made to a particular culture, but rather it would be more inclusive of mankind's experience as a whole and each citizen of this planet. There are interesting insights that actually address some issues discussed in "Conversations with God", but the Ringing Cedars books can in no way be compared with Neale Donald Walsch's series. On the one hand these books are curiously 101-er, and at the same time, if the reader does not have a certain level of understanding of metaphysics in general, they might get lost pretty early on. Since I have 3 more books, I will complete them. At this point I am just plain curious what is coming up next. Better recommendation, Ekhart Tolle's "The Power of Now".

After "Conversations with God" by Neale Donald Walsch these books are perhaps the best I have ever read. The book describes the philosophy of Ananstasia - a spiritual hermit who lives in the woods of the the Siberian Taiga. She presents a very positive and spiritual life style with which humans can achieve happiness and live in harmony with nature. If you are looking for a positive and joyful perspective on life this is the book for you.

I am up to book 7 of the series, and can understand some others' frustrations with the writing style. Vladimir, the author, is one person, Anastasia is another. Vladimir gets annoying, as he has no spiritual background and so doesn't understand some of the things that Anastasia tells him. But there are enough footnotes and mention of real people that I am convinced that Anastasia is a real person. If you read the books with that in mind, she is an amazing person and they are worth reading to see an example of what the full human potential really is. She also has some good pointers for people to realize the full potential of their gardens and home spaces. Her points on raising kids are highly important and something I haven't come across in standard U.S. spiritual books.

The books are from Russia and they describe a spiritual awakening happening in Russia. Some of it is not completely relevant to the U.S., but it was interesting to read just for that glimpse of spiritual awakening happening in other parts of the globe. Americans are notorious for being ignorant of anything happening anywhere else - here's your chance to remedy that! It could well happen that America loses its place as 'super-power', in which case these teachings may become more relevent. These books bring us back to a life that is love.

My main complaint about this series of books is that to really get anything out of them, you need to read at least half of the series. The price tag adds up - an abridged version where you could get more of just Anastasia and less of Vladimir in one or two volumes would be a better value.

I also had a problem with the 'everything is for Man's benefit' theme - I don't see the reason for mosquitos and wasps, for one thing!! But I think her point is that Man is a powerful creative force, and with great power comes great responsibility. As Barbara Hand Clow says, Man is keeper of the 3rd Dimension. Anastasia show us what that can look like.

This last opus of Almaas doesn't bring forth anything new with regard to his others books and I found it slightly repetitive and tedious. This said, Almaas stands as a great and well-inspiring teacher and so, there's always a precious material to be extracted from his books. Therefore you will not waste your time and money if you buy and read this one.

Excellent for the "Beginner"

Review Date: 2008-10-04
I put beginner in quotes because there is not really a dichotomy between the beginner and advanced person.
I first thought that AH Almaas was possibly jumping on the "Power of Now" bandwagon. But I'd say that this work is much more mature some new agey work.
The writing is simplistic and direct, for Almaas.
Having read much of his works and many many other spiritual commentaries, I'd say that I have tended to skim some of the chapters and spent more time on the practice sessions. But for the person new to this world, it is all worth reading, from front to back. I have just read so much from so many things that it is a whirl in my head and I go right to direct practice.
I ordered 'Spacecruiser Inquiry' to explore his opened ended version of spiritual inquiry which is more creative and more difficult to understand, than to just ask alot of deep questions, like other teachers.

Clear and Supportive

Most of those drawn to practice have had the experience of being moved by the open perspective of a teacher's words. While words alone can be supportive of practice, this work also provides a very clear introduction to the practice of inquiry. The reader who is willing to spend time with the questions at the end of each chapter will have the opportunity to gently shift their perspective with regard to self and life.

Broadly speaking, Almaas has written two kinds of books. His Diamond Heart series is an easy to read survey of the practice perspective of the Diamond Approach. His Diamond Mind series provide a detailed and scholarly examination of critical aspects of practice. In terms of flavor, this book is as approachable as the Diamond Heart books. For those who are unfamiliar with this approach or perhaps even new to any kind of practice, this book is a wonderful introduction. In addition to mindfulness and meditation, the Diamond Approach uses inquiry as a support for practice. While inquiry isn't the subject of this book, the short chapters are followed by a series of gentle questions. Working with these questions individually or with a partner not only gives a flavor or this form of practice, but also allows the reader to move beyond the tightly held assumptions about self and life that we all embody. Even those who are familiar with Almaas should find freshness in this work that is supportive of their practice.

Extraordinary "how to" of practicing Presence

We spend so much of our lives trying to get somewhere else. This book revealed to me how this habit of striving interferes in my inner experience of what is happening now. Learning to truly experience what is happening now does not mean being passive. It does not mean that I refuse to take action. It means that if I am sad, I experience that sadness, rather than rushing to cover it up with wishing for a different inner experience. I can take action to change circumstances without denying what my experience is with the current circumstance. Wanting my experience to be different is subtly different from wanting external change. I can work to improve communication and understanding in my family or community without denying my own inner experience at each moment whether it be frustration, anger, fear or joy. Almaas teaches with great clarity the "how to" of being present and tells us that being ourselves, being real, means being our True Nature.

Rarely do teachers reveal the essence of practice in incredibly clear and simple words which penetrate the veils in those of us who are still deeply longing to understand the truth of our nature more. For me this book has quenched a profound depth of that thirst. The quiet nature of this teaching in the diamond approach reveals itself incredibly slowly, but as it does, if one is sincere enough, the unmistakable feeling of finally being at home abides. As I see it this book is Hameed's attempt to reach out to a wider audience with the core of this diamond approach path. Beyond any means that I can understand Hameed, a man of incredible intelligence and mind boggling spiritual sophistication, speaks to us newer students with remarkable clarity simplicity and 'in-touchness'. Never have I heard a teacher communicate so clearly and gently about the task, from the beginning, of the soul learning to find itself again via; this practice of learning how to be real, letting go of judgments about 'real-ity', and then simply existing, calmly, as yourself unfolding now. It seems as though Hameed is saying all suffering is caused by us not simply being where we are, as we are. Various mind conjured resistances, unconscious and conscious, keep us from Reality, which is all the time displaying itself right under our noses. This is a step by step guide in learning to start, stabilize and deepen the being philosophy which the diamond approach offers. A manuscript of value I have trouble putting in to words. A clear, simple, spacious and detailed talk about this journey, told by a man, who if listened to, can not help but awaken ourselves.

This is a good book to have in your library if you currently don't have an archetype book. I can't say that I learned a lot, but I do think that it is a good reference to have available. This doesn't compare to Anatomy of the Spirit which I consider to be a classic. This isn't a book that you sit down and read right through although Caroline Myss does make an attempt to make the book more than a reference. I do like the way she give individual stories in the book to make it more personal and interesting.

I finished reading Caroline Myss' book and actually forced myself to finish the last several pages. Though I did sit down and do a 'Wheel' of Archetypes, and learned more about myself I grew tired of her analysis of others' and their wheels. I got to the point, I didn't care any more. Previously I enjoyed her personal stories in 'Anatomy of Spirit' and in 'Invisible Acts of Power' though she repeated stories and it is best to avoid that pitfall. I am less inclined to buy any more of her books as I feel she is cashing in on her popularity. Time to step back and take a break. Liz-Roy Broerse

I've been ordering Mary's desk calendar for the past seven years. The main reason for this is the large "month at a glance" section in the beginning of the calendar--sort of a mini wall calendar included just before the day-to-day section. I write a LOT in the little boxes for each date of each month, and it keeps me prepped for what's going on all month.

My 2009 edition just arrived and the "month at a glance" section is not included this year. I was surprised. Instead, new sections were added at the end for "Babysitters" and "Children's Friends."

The 2009 edition is cheerful, friendly, and colorful, but I'm going to have to buy another desk calendar to keep my "month at a glance" items clear.

This book is exactly what I was looking for. A high colonic for your mind. RAW's use of humor is nice especially when he is destroying your old "beliefs" and other little trinkets that you used to carry in your travel bag. He lets you leave behind the stuff you thought you needed to adhere to in order to feel safe and "real" in this world.

This book simply covers areas such as drugs because most people are simply too narrow minded, thanks to the Corporate Industrial Military Complex that would prefer to create weapons out of drugs such as LSD, and or use such drugs to brainwash people by secretly slipping these drugs in. For all the bluster and bluff of the Nixon and Reagan "war on drugs" not to mention the callous behavior of the Clintons and now Bushs drugs should be decriminalized. People need to feel good, feeling good should not be a crime, only bad behavior, violent behavior, which this book works very hard to explain. Since the FCC has literally banned any positive mention of drugs currently illegal, they have effectively brought about a modern Inquisition against knowledge and evolution.

But this book explains this in a witty and articulate manner, unlike anyone I can recall in the modern era. Since most people would rather hit someone over the head than listen to what they say with a very sympathetic ear they will usually fear this book or throw it on a bonfire. If science essentially represents a monopoly of information than whoever controls the media controls the information and thus the science. So yes the earth does revolve around the sun and yes drugs such as LSD can in the proper setting and set bring about positive outcomes. Where are those stories in the media? Oh yeah they can't take place simply because they have been banned. As, Bill Hicks would say, where's my commercial. Maybe we have something yet to learn from these forbidden fruits.

Prometheus covers such timely topics as the monopolization of knowledge, military power, land and the issuance of currency. Genetic Imperatives, Imprints, Conditioning and Learning. He talks about modeling the brain with computers and goes into detail about "what the thinker thinks the prover proves." An excellent book about subjects that are not the least bit ordinary to people that have undergone the same experiences, but might seem confusing to those less experienced with the subject matter or those less willing to comphrehend forbidden knowledge.

Prometheus Rising is one of my all-time favorite books.

After a friend of mine asked me to store some of his books, I looked through his stash and this one caught my attention.

It persuaded me to get out of my "belief" box. And it reminded me that despite the breath of one's knowledge in a subject area, you don't know everything. The book made my even question what I think I know as well. I love it!

The book asks you to not just read it, but to live it. You're given "exercises" to perform (some are very difficult; a few almost impossible; all, radical). Any of them can give you more keen insight into the workings of your own belief/thought processes and how much you've been programmed in our modern culture.

This book will offend many people because it will call your religious ideas into question. So it's not for the fundamentalists and the hardline zealots. But for me it actually became FUN when I realized that Wilson is trying to push my buttons.

Want a true challenge to see what you're really made of? This book will provide that for you. But after reading it you'll become a better human being and a little less robotic.

Also it's dense enough to come back to reread regularly, so you can try some of the exercises you might not have tried.

This book will be with me for the rest of my life. That's how good it is.

'Prometheus Rising' reemerged from my first year at university, a time when people like Wilson, Carroll, Leary and Burroughs rocked my world, and I couldn't understand anything that wasn't said with their language. I decided to go through the book again, this time thinking more about each idea and doing (some of) the exercises. Many things that I've liked in the past haven't survived this test (due, I hope, to increasing wisdom and not to decreasing skill of being fascinated), but PR has.

The author moves through Leary's model of eight circuits of consciousness, thus analyzing everything that makes up our behaviour and our potential, from the lowest instincts to ecstatic bliss, to the possibility of reprogramming ourselves. In every chapter chances are that you will discover something about yourself that you didn't know. Reading this book makes you feel more free, even if it shows you how much you are a slave to your past programming.

I tend to classify books as 'reading books' or 'practice books'. The former is the kind which I read, usually in a small time, letting fate make the choice of what I will learn from them, what information will strike me the most and what I will retain. The latter is for books that present a self-contained, practical system. This one is a practice book, although a light one.

This means that, to get the most out of it, one should dedicate a certain period to it (let's say at least 3 months), living its models 24 hours a day, letting its ideas emerge more and more often in the interpretation of one's ordinary life, fully exploring the routes it suggests (some of the exercises involve studying other books, believing certain things for a period of time, taking martial art classes etc.).

Since at this time I couldn't afford that (being already practicing another "system") I chose a middle way: let's do only the exercises that don't require too much time, and substitute the actual living of the concepts in an extended period of time with constant meditation on them.

This worked somehow, but PR is definitely a "practice book". Exercises are of the greatest importance, and I plan to work through it again in the future when I will be able to do everything in the way it should be done.

This is a book about "how the mind works", basically. The author does not know how it works. The first 3/4 of the book reel around the subject, interjecting political views (pro-drug, anti-"military-industrial complex"). The author gets you to think that he has no rules, besides that if you take enough LSD, you can have an out of body experience and see relatives in a different state (he actually claims this).

Then the last chapter comes and he lays down his precise, set and immutable rules. Yoga. He's just a yoga fanatic and believes exactly as they tell him to about yoga and how it works and what it is.

He uses nearly every formal and informal fallacy in the book to try to show his points and dodge around areas where he lacks information or a logical process. A book about "anti-brainwashing"... and he tries to brainwash you to his goofy, 1960's view of the world.

This book is based on LSD and all its wonders.

This is the most beautiful, wise, spiritual, moving, truthful book i had ever read. The words are so wise and true that it hits the core of the soul and unlocks the key to true happiness and spiritual freedom. It opens up a door to God's love, which is pretty intense. Some people may not be able to handle or comprehend how it unveils the lies all around us, that have blinded us from the innate truth.

I just want to say this is beautiful book. It has a simple message. It makes you believe that everything is okay and everything is going to be alright because if you love yourself everything falls into place. I think I'm finally starting to know what that means.
This book is easy to read but the message sticks with you. The author puts a couple of meditation prayers at the end so you have something to help you stay focused on the message, if you want to. I have read two other books by this author, The Four Agreements and The Voice of Knowledge and loved all of them.

Kris Vallotton's "The Supernatural Ways of Royalty" is a book well worth reading, and its message is one that could transform the life of the reader forever. Kris' writing style matches that of his speaking, both of which present the Good News in such a way that is profound, yet simple and accessible to anyone with an open heart for the truth.

The royalty of the believer is an uncommon subject in Christian literature; but in his book, Kris openly shares the various occurences in his personal journey that made this truth his reality. Through key passages in the Scriptures, he reveals the hidden road map to the Bride's seat of honor in Christ, which God ordained long ago.

I personally recommend "The Supernatural Ways of Royalty," as it has radically changed the way I pray, worship, view leadership, and relate to people. Most of all, understanding now that God sees us favorably has dramatically changed the way I approach Him in our private time.

The truth of God's Word, as presented in Kris Vallotton's book, will inspire you toward deeper intimacy with God. I highly recommend it.

Outside of the scriptures, this is the most significant book that I've ever read. Incredible insight into the truth of the word of God, and His heart for mankind. Kris is transparent about his own life journey. This book is the fruit of a life yielded to God's redemptive power... a slave becomes a son! An incredible life-giving message. Highly recommended! I truly believe that Kris is a model prophet for our generation.

You are a Child of the King who created you in His likeness and immage.
You are charged to do as Jesus commanded his followers- Bring The Kingdom of heaven to Earth where ever you go. You carry the very presense of the Living God as a believer. You are no longer a mere human You are a New Creation in Christ Jesus. This Book is a call to live out your Christianity daily. The Kingdom does not come in Word only but in POWER this power is avaliable to you through the Gifts given to you freely by your Father in Heaven.

This book was life changing for me. It really helped uncover the wrong thoughts that I have about myself which have prevented me from acting like the child of the living God that I am. It also helped me recognize a wrong attitude that I had towrd my spouse...an attitude of cohabitation rather than a covenant attitude. I would highly recommend this book to those who are pressing in to God to try to walk in the authority and dignity of the royal priesthood that believers in Christ are called to.

My best friend and I buy this for each other every year, we kind of race to this and then tell the other "don't buy the M.E. calendar this year, I already did!" Last year we didn't and I missed it.

Understand we're not the hokey sentimentals (I don't think) but it's just nice to have a nicely detailed print with a quotation.
