Tom Cowan's Celtic Reflections is a wonderful read. Every chapter contains pearls of wisdom. The book is also written in a way that builds on concepts presented earlier to make the point later in the book. The reflections draw on Celtic traditions and myth, as well as Cowan's personal life. His explanation of spirit and living "in the spirit" was particuarly poignant. I plan read sections again to try to pull out individual practices and meditations. Although they are presented in almost every chapter, I wish there had been a summary or methodology to the techniques that were presented. Overall, though, an excellent book worthy of reading and study, whether you are into Celtic traditions or simply want to experience another way look of seeing the world.

An Absolutely Inspiring Text That Gives Great Insight Into The Heart of Celtic Theology.

Review Date: 2005-11-27
I found "Yearning for the Wind" to be an absolutely inspiring text that gives great insight into the heart of Celtic Theology. Of particular interest to me, and something I hold as a personal belief is the Celtic mystery tradition, going back to the time of Plato, that all created things share in the divine life of the Creator (pp. 56). I believe that the spirit of God is in each of us.

Some may ask how the spirit of the divine can be found in those who are not godly, yet we find this too explained in "Yearning for the Wind" and in Celtic Theology in general. In the text a story is related of two groups of sheep. One group being white and the other being black. From time to time one of the white sheep would wander over to the group of black sheep and would itself turn black. And, later a black sheep would wander into the white flock and would thereafter turn white. I took this to mean that we tend to take on the likeness of those with who we associate. So... when we associate with those lacking an abundance of the divine spirit we ourselves show a lack of this spirit too. Yet, the divine spirit that is in us will grow when given an environment that is nurturing to the spirit.

Along this same line however, we are never completely black, nor are we ever completely white. In "Yearning for the Wind" we see this reflected in the story of the tree, half of which is on fire, the flames blazing up to the top of tree; while the other half of the tree is green, leafy and beautiful. Although not explained in great detail I found the story of the burning tree to be similar to the Chinese theory of yin and yang. Each is the opposite of the other, yet yin flow into yang and yang flows into yin, and at the heart of each is the essence of its own opposite. In each person we can find the rage and flames of the burning half of the Celtic tree and at the same time we can find the shade, and leafy beauty of a tree in the fullness of its bloom.

I believe it is what we do with that that is found within each of us that dictates the course of our lives, and how brightly the spirit of the divine is reflected in us. In Celtic Theology we read the story of Dagda's harp, the music of which affected the soul of man. It is the music of sleep that brings us to that state beyond joy. The Buddhists call it `satori' and the Hindus call it `nirvana', but in each case it is simply realizing the spirit of the divine living within each of us. When we reach a state where we realize that inner divine spirit we can thereafter use that spirit to aid others ~ as with the Celtic songs of healing, which heal those who hear them as well as those who sing them.

We must not think however that Celtic Theology is all mystery and hidden spirit. Those of the Celtic faith are very much in tune with life in this world. We see this reflected in the reply of one of Finn MacCool's men when asked by St. Patrick what had sustained him before the `Gospels'. "The warrior-hunter answered `The truth in our hearts, the strength in our arms, and the promise on our lips'." This clearly summarizes the Celtic Moral Code: "To live from the deep inner knowledge of the heart and soul, to manifest it by physical action, and to be true to one's word." (pp. 83)

Although every religion attempts to offer a code or commandments to guide the moral lives of the faithful, I believe that this Celtic insight into morality says it best. For if a man follows the deep inner knowledge of his heart and soul, does he not draw upon the spirit of the divine that is within us all? And, by drawing upon this inner spirit of the divine a man's physical actions with be brave and right and strong. With strength of spirit, and strength of deed, our word will surely be honorable and true.

Tom Cowan's Yearning of the Wind: Celtic Reflections on Nature is truly wonderful. I imagine that I will reread sections of this book time and time again--each time taking something different with me, each time seeing it from a different perspective. His writing is easy. Flowing from word to word and thought to thought, he takes you on a journey of the soul. It's deceptively simplistic and easy to read--but the depth is tremendous. In a few pages, his words convey universal meanings that strike a chord deep within me.

Cowan writes "Live courageously even though circumstances frighten you. Push through fear, knowing that ultimately nothing can harm your soul."

Wise words from an eloquent man.

The Great Master is incredible and has been far more beneficial to me than every book I have read in the past. I instantly felt changes coming over me after reading each section of this wonderful book. I feel blessed and surprised. This book not only enlivens knowledge, but also enlivens experience. I feel that Toby has shared with us a deep and profound flow of love and compassion. My experiences are beyond words.

My sense is that The Great Master contains all that is worthwhile knowing and experiencing in a pure and brief form. It appears to me to be like an Aphorism of Awakening, of Ascending, of Limitless Expansion of Awareness being given to us at just the right moment in order to change the course of history.

All I can add is that Toby Alexander/Swami Shivananda Brahmananda is clearly a Great Master. A rare Mahaswami. I can barely fathom his abilities, yet it feels like he is a close friend, one who is near and not distant or aloof. Toby is somehow able to simplify things, so that those who are receptive, can quickly and easily make more progress in their lives than they ever expected. He is truly a Great Master who instantly inspires us to feel as if we are already Great Masters too. That we have only to clear away the clouds to find that the Sun is also shining is each of us.

One I committed to reading this book,I could not put it down. It is very well written for all people to understand. After reading it, I evaluated all my past relationships, and have found a place for each and everyone. I had also come to realize some of my own shortcomings in all of these relationships. Which is always hard to admit! To get some self actualization, has brought some enlightenment into my soul. And brought me to a level of self preservation as well.
Although I still am grieveing the loss of my soul mate, I was happy to experience the relationship for what it was in my life, and let go and let GOD on "GODSPEED" I have been left with a peaceful feeling and know that everything will be okay! Thank you Cindy!

I have spent the past few weeks reading and re-reading the passages in this book, and honestly answering the questions posed in each of the 19 steps. The result has been that I have come to understand myself, my relationships, and the Universe in a far deeper and more fulfilling way than I ever could have on my own. Ms. Sansone-Braff's book has allowed me to recognize and confront the misconceptions about love to which I have subscribed to for far too long (lifetimes!), and which I now see have undermined the integrity of my most intimate relationships. That might sound pretty dismal. The enormity of the task of excavating my mind and heart, in order to heal the pain of the past and correct my "errors in thinking", has been quite daunting. But far from being pessimistic, this book has inspired and excited me to open myself up to receiving a "higher", divine love that has always been intended just for me. I can't say that I am completely healed or that I now generate and receive unconditional love all the time. But no book or person could do that for me. What I have learned is that I have within me the capability to create and experience the kind of love that I have always dreamed of. With Ms. Sansone-Braff's insight to guide me, I know that I can continue to peel back layers of fear and move confidently in the direction of love.

This book is a pure delight for anyone interested in finding true love. It has an easy-to-read format which the reader can use as a reference tool again and again.
This book came at a perfect time in my life, God always knows what you need and when you need it. His timing is impeccable.
I could not put this book down once I began reading it.
I was able to relate to so many of the stories and situations Cindi wrote about. It was like going over your whole life and having it finally all make sense. I found my self saying Oh My God! How did she know this!

I was going through a rough time in my relationship, I was at the point of should I stay or should I go.
I know God brought us together for a reason, but our lack of communication, quick tongue and stubborness have gotten in the way and has put a big strand on our marriage.
When I got to Step 8 (HONORING THE FIVE KARMIC PRINCIPLES THAT GOVERN RELATIONSHIPS) I knew more than ever this book was Divinely Guided to me. Communication as always been our problem, after reading this chapter I realized there is a much better way of communicating, not only with my spouse but with the rest of the world. At first I was not going to do the love work assignments at the end of each chapter. Boy am I glad I did, doing the love work assignments proved to be very helpful in my journey toward healing my marriage and reaching enlightenment. I spoke to my spouse about the book and asked him if he would read it, he said he would.
Chapter after chapter I found ways to better my life, lift my soul and cherish each and every day God has given us. Everyone should read this book not only to help you with romantic relationships but relationships with your parents, friends and co-workers.
What the world needs now is Love sweet love and Cindi's book.
PS Me and husband are doing good thanks to Grant me a higher love.

New Insight to Tarot, Astrology and Fairy Tales

I bought this tarot deck and book and didn't use it for years. I tried unsuccessfully to sell it. Eventually I opened it up and started using the cards. I'm glad I never sold it. This deck has brought me new insight to tarot and my readings. Through reading about each fairytale, corresponding astrology signs, and card numbers, I've been able to see karmic lessons I couldn't see with my regular deck. I've also learned how to read and understand each Major Arcana card better. I recommend it if you like reading about fairy tales and folklore. The pictures are beautiful and well done in a large card that needs to be suffled differently from the smaller decks. The only thing the book fails to do is to give full interpretations of what each card means. But I gave it 5 stars because of the involved work that went into using fairytales to tell us the story behind each card.

I really have nothing bad to say about this deck, the only thing is that they are very large, which makes them difficult to handle and shuffle, but there's so much detail that they really need to be that size! The book that goes with it is forever helpful. Each and every reading is different, and always noticing something new. The artwork is beutiful and sometimes I just like to look at them! 5 stars all the way. I wouldn't want any other deck, I've looked and looked and just had to come back to this one!

I agree with another reviewer in that I do NOT like negative images, so this deck fulfilled that need. It is charming and just plain delightful! Buy the Deck, Enjoy it and Recommend to Friends!!!

I have around 20 Tarot decks and I got this one in just this week. I have to say it is one of my very favorite decks already. The artwork is brilliant and almost child-like, but beautifully enlightening. The suits are hearts (cups), crystals (pentacles), magic wands (wands) and swords. The cards relate to characters from well-known fairy tales. The Fool card is Little Red Riding Hood.

The accompanying book very succinctly and eloquently describes the meaning/tales behind each card. It's a very positive, uplifting and upbeat deck. I did the five card C-H-I-L-D reading (described in the book) this morning and it was right-on, as if the cards had known me from the get-go. I don't think I've ever gotten such a wonderful first-time reading from a new deck.

I have to disagree with the reviewer who said this deck isn't for beginners. I think this deck stands alone and that anyone could quickly learn the basics of Tarot with it.

The cards are over-sized but easy to shuffle diagonally. They come in a sturdy storage box which holds the cards and book nicely. I highly recommend this set if you're ready to learn more about yourself and this journey we call life.

Not sure I'd recommend for a beginner, but...

I have four other tarot card decks - Rider Waite, Medieval Scapini, Celtic Dragon and Shakespearean - and have been told that I'm a very good reader (I've never had a disappointed readee yet). However, I haven't until this point had a deck where I actually "feel" anything physically from the cards. I may sense strong ties with the Rider Waite and be able to tell a story and make connections based on the images, but the vibrations just aren't there (especially with the Medieval Scapini, which I haven't used enough, or the Shakespearean tarot, which has breathtaking artwork but might as well be written in Sanskrit for all the sense I can make of it).

The Inner Child tarot deck is totally different. From the moment I opened the box and held these cards, they felt full and rich and alive. I truly love holding these cards. I can actually feel rather than merely sense when I have shuffled enough, and the readings have so much more depth than the rest of my decks. The metaphorical journey of the soul as a child growing up is so appropriate, I feel, to the journey of the human being, and is beautifully illustrated in the cards and the accompanying book.

I love how the cards are explained by Ms. Lerner, and though some of the cards differ from the "standard" deck, her explanations of the cards make sense. As I said in my title, I'm not sure I'd recommend these cards to a beginning reader, as "hearts" for cups and "crystals" for pentacles could be a bit confusing. Of course, "hearts" are what the cups are talking about, and "crystals" makes the Earth portion of the deck seem much less materialistic than pentacles can sometimes read. The artwork also didn't make sense - coming from a Rider Waite background - on some of the cards until I read the explanation, and then it was abundantly clear how the meaning of the cards tied in with the illustrations, and the tie-ins are wonderful.

Ms. Lerner puts a positive spin to the cards, which some people may not like. I feel it's appropriate, as how life affects you depends largely on how you look at it. For instance, the Tower (in this deck Rapunzel) is only a bad thing if you don't like or resist change. If you look for the growth in the change, try to find what the experience is trying to teach you and try to take something from it (which admittedly is not always easy), then at the very least you'll learn how to roll with the punches and be better prepared the next time some massive upheaval disrupts your life. So, while many people may find this positive spin to be a bad thing, I don't believe it is. I believe it's a benefit of the deck, unlike, for instance, the Celtic Dragon tarot, which is beautiful but never has anything to say other than doom and gloom, no matter how many readings I do with it (and I unfortunately know many readers who say the same thing about that particular deck). Though it may sound trite, Monty Python really did say it best when they advised to "Always look on the bright side of life". This deck helps one do that and truly shows that there are lessons to be learned in all that we do. It is a very spiritually grounded deck and I feel very powerful. I certainly feel it's a good deck for anyone interested in developing spiritually.

Since I am well versed in fairy tales, some of the descriptions do seem long and even redundant, especially for the major arcana, but I am very aware that not everyone is as familiar with all the fairy tales used as I am and I would not hold this against the deck. I really can't say enough good things about this deck - the cards are simply wonderful to hold, they vibrate with a beautiful energy, and the child-like drawings are lovely. Though I don't do readings for children, anyone who does would be pleased with these, I'm sure. I highly recommend these to anyone serious about the tarot.

Although nicely written by a medical intuitive, I was disappointed in this slight offering. The information was basic to the point of being simplistic. The boxed thoughts which were to be used a meditations were neither memorable nor effective. In less skilled hands, this book would be trivial and annoying.

This is not to say, it has no value. It is a quick and easy read and the author's experiences are fascinating. Some will find comfort but none will find depth. In many ways, this is like having the whipped cream but not the cake. It is frothy and light. I was expecting a more substance, detailed program for accessing guidance. This is not unlike those inspirational angel blurbs/chicken soup for the soul stories featured in womens magazines--marginally moving, completely forgettable.

It's about time I wrote a review for this book because I have had it for years, read it repeatedly, toss it in my briefcase or luggage on business, or keep a few on hand to pass out......

I have been familiar with the work of spiritual responsibility as taught by Christel Nani and Dr. Rebecca Grace for years now...and have found my personal and professional lives changed remarkably for the better for it. The basics for this book give a very simple, hands on, easy approach to seeing how we each tend to get in our own way while seeking what we want. This book strips away the fanfare and mystic fluff for basic truths about finding joy, being your best self, living your best life, and literally ridding oneself of one's own "stinking thinking." So many times we are our own worst enemy in achieving our own happiness. This book is probably the only book I pick up to re-read fairly often. I always seem to find something new - a new approach, a new idea, a new way to solve a problem each time I read it.

Now, if you are looking for an in-depth analysis of the belief system we carry with us, and how it can be detrimental to one's physical and emotional health - with a very detailed analysis of these issues and how to change, as well as countless specific informal case studies (author's anecdotes) -"Guidance 24/7" is not the book for you. "Guidance 24/7" is the fast, swift, quick, high-intensity dose of a shot of joy. If you want the more detailed analysis of tribal beliefs, lots of great illustrative case studies, and tons of specific resolutions as to how to proceed - you want Christel's later book - "Sacred Choices."

Basically I differentiate the two books this way....."Sacred Choices" is the long slow luscious sip of a frothy fabulous latte, while "Guidance 24/7" is the quick high-intensity shot of espresso..... either way, enjoy! P.S. I just ordered the "Confidence Code CD" - another must own item..... play it before bed and fall asleep to it.... the results are fabulous!

Easy and Comforting!

I loved Guidance 24/7 because it's so comforting! We all need help. Christel makes it so easy and simple to ask for the guidance you need! You will realize that you are never alone, and divine help is yours for the asking. Christel shows you how to ask for help, how to get over feeling unworthy, how to listen for the answers, and how to be grateful.

This book is a very easy read but you'll want to read it over and over to make sure you get it all. Christel's examples and stories are fascinating! After reading this book, I can see angels in my life, and am much more prayerful for my own needs and others' needs, but also in gratitude for all I've been given. I love this book for its simplicity and integrity.

Living in Tasmania, Australia, and with a hobby like miniature dolls' house, people like me eagerly scan our horizons for any shows, workshops or visits from experts in this field, that may come to visit us. I love reading and collecting books and this allows an expert such as Jean Nisbett to come into my house and I can avail myself to her knowledge whenever it suits me. Thank you, Jean!

It also helps you think about and decipher whatever negative feelings you may have and how to overcome them. I was able to examine myself thoroughly and face my insecurities. I read and review a lot of books. And, you know how you read a bok and it sounds like something you have read before? You know..nothing unique or exceptional. Nor does it deliver what it's promised?

WELL...

This is NOT the case with LISTEN TO YOUR LIFE. It promises what it delievers. Buy it, read it, take notes and apply what Valorie Burton encourages and suggests and you too will be on your path to extraordinary success. You deserve it!

By the way, after reviewing this book I purchased a number of copies for family members who have visions of a better life, talk about having a better life but do not know or have the principles to put it into practice.

This book delievers. Think I will read it again....

This is a great book! The information is conveyed to the reader in a wonderful way. I started reading it once and "got too busy for it", but once I actually sat down and stayed consistent with my reading, I couldn't put it down! This book makes you think about things in a different light. It also inspires you to move forward in fulfilling your purpose and unique path. Definetly a life changing book!
