This unforgettable book intertwines the lives of two women of Afghanistan, Mariam and Laila. Their lives are surrounded by both the hope of Afghanistan and personal heartbreak brought on by the unstoppable force of history that crashes into their lives. The strength of these women is inspiring that in the worst of times, love will still conquer all wrong.

Couldn't stop listening to this audiobook.

What more can be said about "A Thousand Splendid Suns"? It is an astonishingly good novel and proves without doubt that Hosseini is no one-hit literary wonder. Whilst I didn't get into it from the get-go the way I did with "The Kite Runner", that is a minor quibble. The plotline and main characters are remarkable, memorable and heartbreaking. The novel gives a unique perspective on the living hell that is everday life in Kabul, Afghanistan, told through the eyes of two women at very different stages in their lives who are brought together in heartbreaking circumstances. They have to endure living their lives in a manner that I find horrific to contemplate, and Hosseini really brings to life their unlikely friendship and struggle to endure intolerable personal circumstances. I cannot recommend "A Thousand Splendid Suns" highly enough and have given it a 5-Star rating.

A truly wonderful story, written in the most intriguing way. I never cared for car racing, but I found the descriptions compelling and may reread some to better understand them. The canine narrator, Enzo, is more likeable than many humans and far more compassionate than most. He also might be one of the funniest dogs around...

Heart warming and funny. The art of racing in the rain.

I'm enjoying this book and so is my sister in Ireland who I purchased a copy, as a birthday gift. She is also getting a kick out of it. This book is touching our lives at the moment and for me, Enzo is stiring many memory's of our family pet, Billy who passed away 5 years ago. This book is a keeper. Thank you and Bless you, Garth Stein.

Incredible book! I was hooked from the 3rd page! A funny, sensitive, heart warming story that deals with life, death, and all the things that we humans go through, told through the perspective of a dog. There are life lessons that we all can learn. Pick this up - you won't be disappointed!

This is the best book I've read in a very long time!! I read it cover to cover on the plane to TX, crying, laughing and totally entertained. I recommend it to every reader. It's very very very good! Told from a beloved dog's point of view, it has sadness and joy!!

Witty, hearbreaking and incredibly touching!

From the start I was utterly entranced. This is a touching story of a family, their joys and heartbreaks as told by the one who knows them best - their dog 'Enzo'. Beautifully written, witty, heartbreaking and incredibly thought-provoking.

Enzo has gleaned most of his knowledge from watching his master Denny an aspiring racing driver, from watching TV (responsibly) and studying in-dash video footage from racing cars.

Certain passages made me laugh out loud "George Clooney is my fourth favorite actor because he's exceptionally clever at helping cure children of diseases on reruns of ER, and because he looks a little like me around the eyes". I loved his absolute joy when his owner Denny finally takes him for a spin in a racing car. Bark twice for faster! And I felt his fear of the crows in the backyard, their beady eyes trained on him as if to say "Come out little doggy, and we'll peck your eyeballs out!"

I read this on the sofa with my dog sprawled out next to me and every so often I gave his ear a little tickle, just in the crease behind the ear (Enzo described the exact spot perfectly) and as he watched me, watching him, I wondered just how much he really understands.

Great book but disappointed in lack of binding

My anatomy/physiology teacher recommended this book to the entire class. I used the ISBN number from my teacher's book to order it. I was upset that when it arrived it was not a bound book. My teacher's is a paperback bound. I received the exact same book only loose leaf with 3-hole punch; therefore, I have rated the "item" with 3 stars because it was not what I expected to receive.

As for the contents of the book, it is really helpful not only to me but to others in my class that have purchased it. It does make our topics easier to understand and remember because of the reference to everyday objects that help anyone to remember what something looks like.

I would have purchased the book under any circumstances; however, I would also have search further for a bound copy if I had realized this was not.

This lab book is a useful tool to memorize anatomical structure. It contains useful analogies. It has short, concise descriptions of each structure/bone. I like it!

I teach anatomy & physiology and have used this book in my classes. Students simply love it! It is a very creative soft cover book that makes learning anatomy both fun and relevant. Rather than merely presenting facts, this book helps students to better learn anatomy by comparing anatomical structures to things from everyday life. While it especially appeals to the visual learner, it will help all types of students. It's part coloring book, workbook, and visual learning system all rolled into one. I was certainly impressed with all the study tips and wonderful mnemonics.

Without a doubt, it will definitely help students pass anatomy the FIRST time.

I thought it was one of the other orders and was amazingly surprised when it was the one I just purchased. Book was in excellant condition. Never even opened and much cheaper than anyone else for the same book. I expected it to have been at least opened. It never was. I recommend purchase from this buyer and will look for them again on my next purchase. THANK YOU!

"The Shack" is an amazing work of fiction. It was recomended by my Pastor but soon became much more than "an assignment" Even being very aware that it IS fiction, this book gave me an insight into the Biblical Trinity that I have never before felt.I have since purchased a number of copies to give to friends (who have purchased more to pass on) and have myself re=read the book multiple times. I find something new each time. it is truly a blessing in my life. Thank you, William Young.

Review Date: 2008-09-06
After seeing the huge postive response to this so-called Christian book, I wanted to read for myself why others thought it so impressive. In this age of weak, pablum theology, it is no wonder that it appeals. Humanity doesn't think anymore, it just feels. This is a feel-good book. And very liberal-minded by the way. I was appalled at the numerous crude and crass referneces to biological "humor" in this book, aka Adam Sadler or Dumb and Dumber vulgarity. Totally inappropriate for a Christian work of fiction or any Christian publication. Not to mention the fact that at least two of these "bathroom humor jokes" were spoken from the "mouth of God". Hideous! God isn't some vulgar good ole' boy redneck! Resounds of the stupid song of a number of years back that was so popular, "What If God Was One of Us?" He ISN'T one of us!! He came to earth in the form of Jesus Christ to redeem us from being "one of us", from being a pig wallowing in the mire!
This book degrades the very character and nature of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It brings God down rather than raising pathetic, disgusting humanity up! He didn't come down to "hang out with us" and be "one of the guys/gals".
Honestly, those of you that call yourselves Christian and thought this was a good book better reread your Bibles! God is not a black woman (and NO, I am NOT prejudice. Some of my closest friends are black!!!Ooops, let's be politically correct...African-American! Even the black man on the RNC the other night blasted that garbage!) He is not Aunt Jemima, Oprah Winfrey and Maya Angelo all rolled together cooking "suppa" for y'all. This book reeks of New Age, Course In Miracles retching mindset. So far from God it isn't remotely funny! Was it on Oprah's booklist? I wouldn't doubt that for a minute.
I'm actually glad I have read the book. Helps me keep a finger on the pulse of the heresies floating around in the church.

This is an excellent first bible for school-age children. This is not a bible story book, rather a full text of the bible. My first and second graders take turns reading from this bible, with occasional help from mom. They are able to understand what they are reading and this is really giving us an opportunity to discuss the bible. They are proud to have out-grown their bible story books and have a bible that more closely resembles that of mom and dad.

It is very kid friendly. It's not intimadating as the adult pew Bibles for the kids.

This is a great Bible for kids (and parents to read with them!)
The letters are larger, making it easy for those without lots of reading experience to see the words clearly. It's also been revised in such a manner as to use more understandable words in some cases, but IS the entire Bible, not simply paraphrased or only a group of key Bible stories. The kids love the brilliant pictures also. Our church buys these for any Sunday School kids going into the third grade each year, and they are treasured. Highly recommended!!!

It is exactly what I wanted!

This is a good bible for children. The font is large enough for easy reading, there are pictures and the front cover is colourful making ita very attractive bible. My daughter truly enjoys her first bible.
Couple shortfalls are that the words of Christ are not in red (which would be good for the reader to visually identify Christ's words) and the verses should be separated and not all joined together as is the case in the adult version of this bible.

I am more then half way through the book now and it has made take a close look at my actions, attitude and the choices I make. It seems obvious once you start to read but it is difficult to look at ones self constructively... the book is a great tool for me to look at me and has given me insight

There's definitely a wealth of information / data in this book, 75% of which I will probably never use given the nature of my profession. I'm giving this book 5 stars because so far it's lived up to my expectations. I could probably find some of the same information I need on the internet, but it's handy to have so much of it all right here in this handy albeit rather large book.

I can see, as another reviewer pointed out, that this might not be best suited for hostile environments. It's served me well so far at my clean but cluttered desk, and undoubtedly will continue to hold up for many years. I'm not sure that I'd be willing to pay extra for a bombproof version.

As much as I hate to admit it, sometimes when I need a quick break from staring at the computer monitor, I find myself randomly flipping through the pages of my Machinery's Handbook in search of something interesting. So far, it hasn't let me down.

This won't make it on anybody's fast-paced action/adventure bestseller list, but it's clearly an invaluable resource for the mechanically inclined.

The product is certainly comprehensive and reasonably well made for reading in an 'office-friendly' environment, however I don't think that the book would survive too long in a workshop, the pages are too flimsey and I wouldn't expect them to last in such an environment. To overcome this dilema the publisher might consider packaging the CD with the book for the book price so that hobbists like me can have it available also on screen (e.g. a PC screen that is also being used for CNC operations in the workshop). In that case, why not just have the CD you might ask - I say there is nothing like being able to thumb through the real thing (the book) before hitting the workshop (to view the book on-screen). Notwithstanding, every model engineer should have this reference.

Red print: not a good idea. Theologically speaking, Christ's words in red print could suggest that the red print carries greater weight than the rest of Scripture, which is untrue. All Scripture is the inspired Word of God. And since Christ is God, there is then no sense in putting His words in red. The best Bible is a King James in all black print with no commentary on the same pages as the Scripture.

I think this version of the King James version of the Bible is perfect for people like me who need larger printing in order to see better. The words are clear and the words of Jesus Christ are printed in Red just like the regular bible. It's rather large but managable to carry along and not too bulky. Personally I like it very much. It serves my needs very well.
