Definately recommend this book to everyone! If you want to know ways to build team leadership, this is the book for you. I has different "Laws" that you can use on at a time, or combine them together. I really enjoyed this book, (was for course work) but I recommended it to my pastor and church leaders to reference and use.

Also used "The Power of Team Leadership" by Barna. Recommend both books as great resources for every Christian leader.

Good mix of factoids, inspiration and leadership pointers

Building on the successful formula of his earlier work, author John C. Maxwell (The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership) has delineated 17 "laws" for managers who want to develop successful teams. That number may be arbitrary, but Maxwell successfully uses his laws as a springboard to weave together inspiring tales from Navy Seals, mountain climbers, Colin Powell, George Washington, Jimmy Carter, major league coaches and others into punchy chapters that any aspiring leader can use. This book provides the right mix of factoids, inspiration and leadership pointers to make it a bestseller. Even better, coaches and leaders who use these tips should be able to build better teams. We recommend this book to coaches, mentors and team leaders.

This book does not attempt to unleash the power of anything.

To save you some time & money - the author believe cells are like computer chips, which can be programmed. End of story.

In 10 years maybe the author will write a book about how we can systematically use this property of cells to improve our lives - but this is NOT that book.

Using science as a springboard for a leap of faith

Review Date: 2008-10-12
I casually bought this book assuming it was based on science...what a mistake!!! The author uses terms such as "energy" in the loosest and most irresponsible way...He draws lines where in reality there are none, in order to equate "wave" and "quantum" energy to mean the "healing energy" in some alternative medicine therapies. He further equates quantum physics to "mysterious" and "unexplained" paranormal phenomena...not to mention debunked and unverified phenomena! But the efficacy of alternative healing is not even questioned in this book-it is presented as effective and unresearched. The author expects the reader to make a leap of faith-if you accept quantum physics, then you must also accept alternative healing- based soley on the misuse of terms. What a joke!

This book is one of my most precious and cherished books. I believe that this wonderful man has written the clearest and most inspiring book explaining what creative genious' we all are. I loved his research, his ability to inspire, his remarkable ability to communicate and his enthusiasm which leapt off each page. We are far more powerful than we ever realized and we have the absolute ability to change our lives by merely changing our thoughts and emotions. Of course once you've read the book you are left with the question...how do I change my subconscious beliefs? He likes the method of PsyK - there are numerous methods, but no magic bullet or technique. In my opinion no one method fits all. I think that once you realize that you can change your beliefs you will discover the best technique for you. But first you have to open your eyes to the power within. This book will clearly and absolutely open your eyes and inspire you. This is a book too good to miss.

Exploring the workings of the cells gives insight to understanding our thought processes while opening up to more questions about who we are and what is our essence. If the reader is not familiar with the terminology it can slow them down a little, otherwise the book flows well through the subject. It makes the point that what we think is reflected in our bodies, and if we pay attention to our what our bodies are telling us, we can rethink our thoughts. Retrain our cells by rethinking our beliefs and our physical and mental health will improve and so our perspective on our experiences. Encouraging and enlightening.

The book is packed with information on an intriguing and eye-opening subject matter. Gary Webb cites what appears to be legitimate references adding credibility to the story's claims. The abundance of information did become overwhelming at times. Although after completing the book I found myself thinking "Right, wrong or indifferent...It all makes perfect sense. Awesome book on liberty, guns, self protection, dealing with the antigun liberal psychos

I got this book due to recommendations from many excellent websites and other authors whom I know to stand for Freedom and Liberty as established by our Founding Fathers and the many excellent riflemen who fought the Revolutionary War and all the men who have fought in subsequent wars to preserve our Constitution. What I got was a super bargain for the price. It is enlarged from the original by some 200 pages and reads so fast and easy that it is phenomenal. He gives the reader a good Index of terms/acronyms that you will use. It is located in the front of the book and is easy to refer back to when necessary. Aside from that, this guy gives you history, heritage, explanations on WHY we need to protect ourselves, especially from over zealous liberals who want to remove our 2nd Amendment Rights and who keep bogging us down with "Regulations" in effort to try and take our guns away. You get reviews of rifles, handguns, shotguns in as much depth as you could wish for from a man who knows what he is talking about. He brings in views from "experts" in many areas and topics to back up what he is trying to explain to you.

You cannot go wrong with BTP. He's right for every FREEDOM LOVING person in the U.S. If you are a Liberal and are against anyone except the police and military having guns, then you are going to find yourself very much abused in this book for being already enslaved and under control of other people who think they know what is best for you, regardless of what you think about it.

I must emphasize one very outstanding focus BTP makes in this book. He has a fully detailed section for Women and how they need to protect themselves. He helps with gun selections and other protective means.

Lastly, he gives you resource referral information on where to go to get what, things to watch (videos, movies), books to read, and important names/addresses/contact info, website addresses, etc.,on other resources including within the government. This is a super resource and learning book that is very timely in this day and time when it looks like we may be faced with some kind of issues in self protection/survival from terrorists, bad governmental agents, or people who want to bring you and your family harm. It will lift your "Freedom Loving" spirits in showing you how YOU can survive and how you MUST protect yourself and your family. I find myself picking it up and rereading here and there all the time. It is almost a daily thing to review something or some section in my Gun Bible and get Boston's views on it again. I found this as one of the best ever books I've ever owned and it is definitely very inspirational to this old Constitutionalist who feels that his freedoms are slipping out from under him very fast in this day and time.

This is one book I would honestly recommend for everyone. If you are a gun owner and have not read this book you must at once. If you plan on buying a gun at any point you need this book. Without a doubt the best single book on the subject of firearm ownership.

Excellent technical manual with some impractical advice
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-31
This book gives the best information about the technical specifications and advantages of different guns than any other I have ever seen. It also gives a lot of information regarding the law, your rights, and which states are gun-friendly. There are also substantial portions of the author's philosophy written about in the book. Kenneth Royce is truly an expert on the subject of guns, and this book has changed my way of thinking forever. The most valuable part of the book, I believe, is the section dealing with the advantages and disadvantages of various guns. He thoroughly exhausted that subject. I recommend this book for everyone, not just gun owners. If you are a gun owner, I guarantee that this book will have some information you can use. If you're planning on becoming a gun owner, this book will help you decide which gun to buy first. If you're not sure, I believe this book will convince you you need a gun. If you are anti-gun, this book may very well change your mind-- if not with its philosophy, then with its statistics.

In the title of my review, I mentioned that there is some impractical advice in the book. Mr. Royce strongly encourages everyone to devote a major portion of their life and money to purchasing and training with guns. While it's fine to talk about different training ranches and expensive guns, Royce goes so far as to imply that if you don't do this, you're a fool. In reference to people who say that they can't afford a multi-thousand dollar sniper rifle, he responds, "how much protection can you afford not to have? Save money in other areas so you have enough to purchase guns." He says basically the same thing about expensive gun training courses offered by Thunder Ranch and others. It's the arrogance of his statements which really bother me. I don't know how Royce makes a living (I doubt that much of his income comes from books), but normal people have families to feed, and simply cannot afford to buy a $6,000 Barrett because the USA is an expensive country and people with normal jobs don't make that much money. He also says that there are two kinds of people in an army: riflemen and cooks, and refers to those firearms owners who aren't expert riflemen as "cooks" (his criteria for graduating from "cook" status is in the book). Not everyone can be Carlos Hathcock. His attitude throughout the book brings the term "gun snob" to mind, and really put me off after I thought about it for a while. From reading this book, I'm sure Mr. Royce thinks very highly of himself.

Although his superior attitude offends me, most of his statistics about crime are hard to argue with, most of his philosophy makes sense, and I certainly can't knock the technical information contained in Boston's Gun Bible. Again, this is a must read. Buy this book NOW.

Boston T. Party is a pen-name for Kenneth W. Royce, a libertarian author of several non-fiction books. In his firearms reference manual, Boston's Gun Bible, the author pours out his knowledge of guns, but apparently does not bother to employ either a ghost writer or editor.

A basic knowledge of firearms is assumed by the author however, the first chapter does cover terminology. Later chapters include Women and Guns, Rating the Battle Rifles, Rating the Battle Carbines, How to Buy, Sell & Trade and You & the BATF. Also included are chapters or sections covering individual rifles and pistols. Based on the information provided, I would give the book five stars.

There is a detailed table of contents, but no index. The pages are number in the military style, chapter/page, so if you are on the tenth page of chapter four it would read 4/10. One reviewer mentioned the book had 848 pages. I have not counted.

The writing style varies unevenly from technical to conversational, sprinkled with wit and occasional sarcasm. Fonts, font size, italics and bolding seem to change at the whim of the author. This does detract from a five star rating. However if you want basic information and opinion based upon experience about modern firearms and accessories as well as rankings and comparisons between different makes and models, this is a good buy.

Recommendation: If you have one or two guns and are interested in expanding both your knowledge and your collection I recommend Boston's Gun Bible as an easy to read reference manual.

The charts in this book are what makes it so effective and helpful. Once again Gilbert's has provided law students with a great teaching aid and exam study guide. The questions in the back are very good, but beware 1L's in your first semester not having all of the information necessary to fully answer the questions.

The charts in this book are fantastic and are not to be missed! A must have for law students!

I just finished my Contracts final, but I will not blame my grade on this book.

This does what it is supposed to. It supplements the material that the Prof. presents in class. If you are not sure what the modern rule is, this is where you go. If you are not sure if there is an exception, this is where you go. If you are not sure what the basic functions of the rule is, this is where you check. If you are not sure what Restatement or UCC section applies, this is where you check.

If you want to know the reasons Why, this is not where you go. The book explains the rationale behind the rule in only a few situations. If you have an exam that is only multiple choice, you could skip every class, read this cover to cover three times and do pretty well. Unfortunately, most exams are not like that.

This book is great for supplementing your notes and filling in the gray areas. For that, it is invaluable, but like all commercial outlines, it cannot replace your notes.

As the previous reviewer says, the flow charts are excellent. This certainly facilitates understanding, I would just recommend not putting all your eggs in this basket.

I'm a newer fan of the TV show, but have a long-time fascination with violent crime. So when I heard SVU had a book describing real-life murders in relation to the series, I absolutely had to look.

Dwyer and Fiorillo do a stunning job. Not only do they present 25 fascinating cases, but they delve into the details you normally don't find when researching the particular crime. Done and solved crimes like the BTK killer are widely known about, but the authors go into side details that most writers forget to cover in 20-page tales. There's even a crime the show only lightly touched upon--the scizophrenic man shoving someone in front of a train.

Dwyer and Fiorillo have outdone themselves. This book is a brilliant compilation of true crime. The old seems fresh, and the new is horrifying and captivating. Even if you're familiar with most of the crimes in here, it's worth taking a look. I highly recommend this book to any fan of the show AND fellow true crime intrigues.

As an online paralegal student at the Washington Online Learning Institute, (WOLI) for short, I bought this book towards the end of my certificate program. It was quite useful in putting a lot of information in perspective. I had a course in career preparation at WOLI and this book reinforced and expanded upon that information so the combination of knowledge from WOLI and this book was really powerful. This book is basic, but it is accurate and very useful for someone entering the field. I ended up with a job just two weeks after graduating and this book helped for sure. So I would recommend it. I think it is interesting that Amazon bundles this book with the Statsky paralegal book because we used the Statsky book in three courses at WOLI. So I would recommend both books, actually. This is a good book for a person who is serious about entering the paralegal field, but keep in mind you should really get certified if you want to be truly successful. The days of just learning on the job are pretty much over, especially in terms of advancement in a law firm, which is a valid point made in this book. Recommended.

They break down stuff that people might deem as "common" knowledge, but you'd be suprised how ignorant some are on the topics. I will continue to buy their line and look forward to many new and interesting topics to read about.

I originally purchased this book for my friend, who was considering pursuing a paralegal certificate to help with a career change. Before giving it to him, I managed to read this book in its entirety. With only my brief academic background in law (Business Law I&II, and Law of the Workplace) I found this book to be an enjoyable, easy read, and full of useful information and insight into the paralegal industry. (Not to mention a CD full of bonus material.)

I also found it intriguing that this book was written by the founders of The Center for Legal Studies, providers of paralegal courses in many of this country's junior colleges. (The same course, as it were, that my friend will be taking in the coming months.) While I don't know how good it will be as preparation for the course, I'm relatively certain that the two have some interrelated elements that may prove useful.

I bought an earlier edition while I was in law school. This book is very well organized and covers both the conceptual and practical perspectives of taxation extraordinarily well. The questions at the end of each section help to solidify your understanding of the concepts by varying the fact scenarios from question to question.

I've been in tax practice for ten years, and I purchase each updated edition for a review of the conceptual aspects of taxation and for a quick review of the tax treatment of transactions I haven't handled very often in practice.

As with other Nolo books that I have read, The Executor's Guide is very well organized and well written in "plain English". The index is useful to use the book as a reference.

The book is specific for what to do and the types of issues you'll face after someone close to you passes away. Not only is it a great handbook for the estate's executor, but this book will be very useful to spouses, children, heirs, and trustees.

Since this book is focused on what to do to settle an estate, I'd also recommend that you get a different book on estate planning for preparing wills, trusts, etc. An excellent guide for this purpose is Nolo's Plan Your Estate: Everything You Need to Know to Protect Your Loved Ones, Property & Finances.

I think this book is wonderful. It is packed with content. And it's very informative. However, I wasn't particularly impressed with its organization. There are many books that could be written to help an executor do his or her job in adminstering and settling a decedent's estate, among them would be the following titles:

EXECUTOR DUTIES
1. An executor's guide about an executor's role, responsibilities, and fiduciary duty
2. An executor's guide on what to do when the decedent dies
3. An executor's guide to what constitutes the unauthorized practice of law
4. An executor's guide to estate property
5. An executor's guide to estate liabilities
6. An executor's guide to professionals who help in the administration of an estate
7. An executor's guide to services offered and performed by estate attorneys
8. An executor's guide to settling a trust (if the executor is a trustee)

THE LAW
9. An executor's guide on how to read a will
10. An executor's guide to the laws of intestacy
11. An executor's guide to probate procedure
12. An executor's guide to guardianship law
13. An executor's guide to disclaimers for post-death estate planning
14. An executor's guide to Louisiana custom, law, and procedure regarding an executor's duties

TAXES
15. An executor's guide to federal estate taxes
16. Case studies: Completed Federal Estate Tax Forms
17. An executor's guide to state inheritance taxes
18. Case Studies: Completed State Inheritance Tax Forms
19. An executor's guide to generation skipping taxes
20. Case studies: Completed Generation Skipping Tax Forms
21. An executor's guide to income taxes
22. Case studies: Completed Income Tax Forms

The instant book being reviewed was close to 500 pages long. Each one of the suggested books above could easily be 500+ pages long if written well and completely. In fact, #s 10 and 11 could be done for each state and probably be 500+ pages each. The point is, that for the instant book being reviewed to get a 5-star rating it has to be well organized so it can act as a springboard for the reader into other resources. In my humble opinion, this book does not force the reader to quickly and easily grasp the material presented. Accordingly, I have bumped down its star rating. But don't take my word for it. Judge for yourself. Does the book cover the 22 topics listed herein above in a clear and organized manner?

This book totes itself as an "excutor's" guide. But I think it is better defined as an adminstration and settlement guide for executors AND TRUSTEES. Thus, I would change the title a bit to make it more representative of what the book covers.

I think Part I (Getting Ready) along with chapters 3 (The First Week), 4 (The First Month), and 9 (Managing Money & Paying Bills) should be moved to the end of the book and renamed Appendix A. And I think the title of the new Appendix A should be "Roles, Responsibilities, & Fiduciary Duty." I would move chapters 6 and 7 to the end of the book and call them Appendix B. Reading a Will is something an executor must do, but it is ancillary to his or her roles, responsibilities, and fiduciary duty. And I think Part IV (Getting More Help) should be made Appendix C. The current Appendix A should be renamed Appendix D.

I think the middle of the book should be reordered as follows:

8. Taking inventory
>>5. Life Ins, SS, & other benefits
>>15. Retirement plans
>>16. POD assets
>>13. Survivorship property
>>14. Community property
12. Property that doesn't go through probate
18. The regular probate process
17. Special procedures for small estates
11. Taxes

I'm not sure where Chapter 10 belongs? It seems to be just thrown into the middle of the book. I think it should at least have been positioned somewhere close to Chapter 20 (Managing a Child's Trust). 4 stars!

I received this book as a gift years back and all I can say is that I pick up something new every single time I read this book. This is one of those books that stand the test of time. Whether you lead a team of 10 or lead a team of 1, it will only help you understand who you are as a leader, and who you should be.

John Maxwell shows you, through simple observation, common mistakes and helpful insights to becoming the best leader we can. He gives you tools to use and apply to our daily lives.

I'm currently taking a 7 week course through my church based on John Maxwell's dvd version of "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" and purchased the workbook for the weekly pre-prep reading. This is by far the best and most helpful leadership resource that I've read/taken. I highly recommend all versions.
