In my opinion, this is the finest business law textbook on the market. It contains well-edited cases for discussion, cogent analysis of policy and legal history, and easy-to-read flowcharts that help students go through the legal reasoning steps.

It is extremely user friendly to both the lay student and instructor. In addition to the core contract law chapters, it contains chapters summarizing all the main substantive areas of law (and even contains a chapter on the new field of Cyberlaw).

The supporting instructor materials and test bank are excellent. I highly recommend this text. It is well worth the price.

The authors are professors from the Indiana University School of Business, one of the top 5 business schools in the world.

I realize that many of you buying this book won't have a choice about it--it's probably required for a class you are taking and don't much care how good or bad the book it because you need it regardless. However, for those of you who do have a choice:

This textbook has 9 Parts (Intro to law, Contracts, Sales, Agency and Employment, Business Organizations, Property, Commerial Paper, Credit Transactions, Government Regulation) with a total of 48 chapters.

The format of the book, along with the firgures and tables, makes the book easy to read. When applicable, there is a case relating the law described to a real-world situation or a box with ethical considerations and questions. Additionally, the problems at the end of each chapter explore the issues and make students think of both sides of the arguement.

However, in certain areas when describing the law, the text can be vague. The authors could do better making it clear when and how a law is applicable. There are many times when doing the problems where I would look up the case or the issues involved online to get a complete picture.

Overall, a good textbook, especially with supplemental material to be given during lecture.

Trattner takes the reader back in time to define how modern American has developed its current welfare state. Certainly this is a task that cannot be fully done in only 400 pages. The only weakness in this book is that it is too brief. It does not go into enough detail, but it is comprehensive enough to give a solid introduction to the modern American welfare state and the issues that face America's poor. This is a good book.

This book, though dry at times, gives a realistic and more complete look at American history. This was required reading for a college course I took. The history contained here is not what is taught in highschool and I was surprised at just how much I did not know about life in America before I was born.

America has a very ugly past and present in many ways. We have oppressed, demoralized, institutionalized, degraded, segregated, stereotyped, and persecuted millions of persons over the years. What is unfortunate is that with all our advances in business and technology... there are still single mothers living on the streets, starving with their children. There are still foreign workers being payed much less than minimum wage. There are still persons living with mental illness being drugged and institutionalized. The rich are still getting richer, as they exploit the poor and working classes.

America has much to be proud of. America also has much to be ashamed of. This book sheds light on some of the crimes that we (America) has committed against its own people, as we continue to point fingers at others wrongs.

Buy this book for the CLEP exam

I bought this book to study for the CLEP introductory business law exam after reading the customer reviews on Amazon. I agree with most everyone on here that this book is a good resource and will help you pass the CLEP exam.

The only problem I saw with the book was the order of the chapters. Specifically it didn't really define Torts until chapter 19 and yet the term was used several times in chapters 4-6 comparing Contracts to Torts. An oversight by the authors (and editor) just assuming that every reader already knows what a Tort is in detail. Do yourself a favor and read the Torts chapter before you get to Contracts.

[...] They also sell a practice exam that is useful to help you get used to the types of questions and the wording of the questions. I memorized all of the questions and answers to the practice exam. There were about 4 or 5 questions from the practice exam that were exactly the same on my CLEP exam.

I recommend you read these chapters from the Barron's Book: 1-9, 13-16, 18-20, 22-24, & 26. In addition make sure you know the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 14th Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Definitely know all of the stuff in the boxes labeled "You Should Remember", as well as the bold words throughout the chapter. Also answer all of the questions at the end of each chapter.

I studied about 2-3 hours a day for 6 days straight and passed. It is a timed exam so be cognizant of the amount of time remaining during the exam. I almost ran out of time.

Don't underestimate this CLEP exam, it was fairly difficult and there is a lot of information to digest but this book made the process easier. If you don't pass the exam you have to wait 6 months before you can take it again so be prepared!

This is an excellent book for anyone taking the Business Law I CLEP exam or Business Law II DSST exam; very comprehensive and very well written (as opposed to other books focused on passing the CLEP exam, e.g., REA's CLEP book and COMEX). I read this book from cover to cover within two weeks of my CLEP exam and passed with a 70.
Highly recommended!!

I bought this book to pass a CLEP test. I did not study as much as I wanted to but did pass the test. I now see that there is an official CLEP study guide and would assume that would be better for studying for the CLEP. This is a very large book to read through and the new CLEP study guide is only ~288 pages.

However, the quality of this book is very good.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because it is too "God" oriented. I'm a nonbeliever. It was difficult for me to listen to all the references about God and how there is no imperfect thing. If there is no imperfect thing then why are children raped and murdered? There are too many atrocities for me to think of this as a perfect world with perfect people. However, Kelly does try to instill a sense of compassion and love for others and I admire her for that. I think our society would be a better place to live if more people listened with an open heart to this CD. The day after my first use my husband was much more cooperative with me. It was really weird. I don't know if the CD has somehow made a change in me that has caused him to do things I ask or what...All I know is that I was suffering from severe depression and had contemplated suicide because my life with him was so miserable at times. Now things are so much better. He is so cooperative and so much nicer towards me. It is like night and day. I think this CD has had a lot to do with it....

Wonderful CD

I am writing this review after using the CD for 6 weeks.
I think this is one of the best products in the market. Kelly's voice is soothing and lulls me to sleep. The CD did give me a headache first few days .After 15 days I almost got into habit of listening to her voice.
I always blamed myself for not making right decisions. I would agonise over everything for days.Kelly's CD imbibed in my mind that I cannot control everything in life and it has lifted burden off my chest. I feel lighter and have been able to meditate better and sleep better.I don't think I can stop listening to it now....

Helps!

I thought this was a very good meditation tape however, you may want to learn more about relaxation and meditation. In one of my favorite books on The Secret (Law of Attraction), Living The Secret Everyday: My Secret Workbook you learn the basics and how to apply them through relaxation and meditation. A great combination, this book and the video.

Originally, I came across this CD while I was studying ways to increase creativity in my art. I found studies of binaural feedback and then this BrainSync Series. So I figured trying this CD out wouldn't hurt.

Let me first say that you should invest in a nice pair of small ear-bud headphones with a nice frequency range. At first I was using large headphones so it was difficult to sleep but after getting some ear-buds and getting used to audio as I sleep everything was great. The sounds and Kelly's voice on its own is very relaxing, but only the tip of the ice-burg.

Just in a matter of a couple weeks, I found this really subtle positive feeling in my life. My life has always been full of depression, mistakes and lost wandering... and for the first time, it was as if things were just working out for me.

It's been 2 months of listening- I really truly believe I've found my path. I am genuinely happy and spiritually fulfilled, I've found a light within myself. My art career has taken a huge boost in inspiration and passion... ideas come to me so vividly. I've found a secure calmness within, and it all feels so RIGHT.

I recommend this product to everyone (YOU MUST GET THIS) and I know you'll enjoy the amazingly positive change it manifests in your life.

great use of U.S. Anderson's words

Review Date: 2008-08-01
For those wanting to know what Kelly is saying, it is a meditation created by U.S. Anderson 30+ years ago. It goes like this:

"I know that I am pure spirit, that I always have been, and that I always will be. There is inside me a place of confidence and quietness and security where all things are known and understood. This is the Universal Mind, God, of which I am a part and which responds to me as I ask of it. This universal mind knows the answer to all of my problems, and even now the answers are speeding their way to me. I needn't struggle for them; I needn't worry or strive for them. When the time comes, the answers will be there. I give my problems to the great mind of God; I let go of them, confident that the correct answers will return to me when they are needed. Through the great law of attraction, everything in life that I need for my work and fulfillment will come to me. It is not necessary that I strain about this, only believe. For in the strength of my belief, my faith will make it so. I see the hand of divine intelligence all about me, in the flower, the tree, the brook, the meadow. I know that the intelligence that created all these things is in me and around me and that I can call upon it for my slightest need. I know that my body is a manifestation of pure spirit and that spirit is perfect; therefore my body is perfect also. I enjoy life, for each day brings a constant demonstration of the power and wonder of the universe and myself. I am confident. I am serene. I am sure. No matter what obstacle or undesirable circumstance crosses my path, I refuse to accept it, for it is nothing but illusion. There can be no obstacle or undesirable circumstance to the mind of God, which is in me, and around me, and serves me now."

I read the book first, but I wanted to listin to the author also.Boy was I surprised at what I heard, this lady is very down to earth and tells her stories to where you can understand and apply them to your life very easly. She comes across very human and reachable, where her solutions and answers are not out there, they are easly applied. It's a shame she is no longer with us.

It isn't "all about us, It all starts with us" individually.

I loved this book for many reasons One being it deals with ones well being. Yes many people I have recommended this to and even given as gifts, have found it difficult to put these good feelings into practice. I feel it is or was difficult as it proves the authors point that we have been taught backwards. No one person is to blame as it has been handed down for eons. We are what we attract as we are all magnetic energy fields encased in a body called human. I agree there are no victims in this life, victimization , like death , is an illusion. What we think about, we bring about regardless if you understand it or not. If you look around you will see how people do indeed create their own reality positive or negative and you are not "doomed" unless you believe/feel that you are and even those feelings can be changed. The reason why so many people get themselves into such tough or disasterous situations is the fact that they do not pay attention to what they are attracting, therefore focusing on. I feel and now know, Miss Grabhorn was into the law of attraction, an invisable powerfully magnetic force that we command regardless if we are aware of it or not. Just think of the law of gravity. You cannot see it but it is in full force 24/7 as is the law of attraction. For those skeptical regarding this work I wish to close with: Just because you don't believe in something does not cancel its existance. As you are focusing on your skepticism you are bringing about more skepticism.

This book has a powerful message, but lacks a powerful plan
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-24
Lynn Grabhorn believes that the direction our lives are headed (for the better, or for the worse) is due to our emotional feelings, not our thoughts. I believe that's a very powerful, useful message that we all need to remember, especially when we're experiencing those dreaded "downward spirals" in life.
The fact is that many of us wait for something good to happen to us in order for us to feel good. But that's getting things backwards, and if you take this approach, you may be waiting for a long time. Actually, if you make yourself feel good first and just be happy, you'll increase the chance of good things happening in your life. Ok, easier said than done; but that's the main message of the book.
The problem is that the author doesn't provide a good, effective plan for changing the way you feel in an instant, or even over a longer period of time. In fact, to say that your "thoughts" are insignificant and it's "all about feelings" is misleading, because your thoughts determine your emotional feelings. The fact is, what you focus on determines how you feel emotionally. So you can change the way you feel in an instant, simply by changing your focus. You can also change the feeling of others around you by using the same strategy. For example, if you tell a joke to someone who is in a serious state and they laugh as a result, what has happened is that their emotional state has changed, because their focus has changed. Of course, even though this concept is simple, that doesn't mean it's always easy to use that strategy. But I've found that the more your use it(once you've become aware of it), the easier it becomes to use it effectively. Just change your focus to something that makes you feel good, and you WILL feel good.
So in sum, I gave this book only three stars, not only because the author downplays the importance of thoughts in determing our feelings, but also because I believe the book lacks a powerful, organized plan for changing one's emotional state, either in an instant, or over the long term. Fortunately, Anthony Robbins has a good plan for that in his book "Awaken the Giant Within".

This is a total waste of time and money. She takes a couple of simple, incorrect and unsupportable assumptions and just writes repetitive gibberish about them for an entire book. It goes nowhere. It does't work. It's a rip-off for anyone looking for meaningful answers. Don't buy.
