I ordered and paid for this product, $56.79. Taber's Cyclopedia Medical Dictionary & Taber's Electronic Medical Dictionary CD-ROM V 3.0.
The "&Taber's Electronic Medical Dictionary CD-ROM V 3.0" is an "online" version only for the extra $25.00, I can access this feature for only the next 12 months.
Product pictured shows an "actual" CD-ROM.
This is misleading advertising.
Now I discover there is nothing else I can do except send it back, and I needed it 2 days ago for my daughters class. There is no place that I can find at Amazon to complain about this and perhaps obtain the "so called" CD-ROM.
Hey, if I'm wrong I'll apologize, but, what would anyone think?

Great Savings. . . Thanks!

I was told I needed to buy this as a required book for my ADRN program, and I couldn't be more pleased with it. My teachers are testing us out of this book, there are nursing conceptual models listed in the appendix. I have found that it is helpful when I am doing my homework. I will never throw this away until I absolutely have to get a new one. I definitely would recommend it.

This is a great reference for the Medical Terminology. It breaks things down so that the average person can really grasp the concept. Plus the illustrations in the book are FANTASTIC! This was not available on my college campus and I ordered this through Amazon and got it quickly to my front door. I highly recommend this book for the Medical Terminology or just for curiosity in the medical field.

I bought this for my daughter to use with amedical course she is taking . She finds it a great help with her lessons

Horrid x 3! Effective in confusing and making you hate electromagnetics. Books like these, which only scrape a lopsided, mathematical surface without any context should be left for people who hate physics and want to quickly memorize some equations.

A good source of problems, but a somewhat muddled narrative
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2006-12-19
This is an excellent source of problems if you are an undergraduate electrical engineering student enrolled in a class concerned with electromagnetics, which is probably one of the toughest courses you'll face as an undergraduate. Although the selection of problems is excellent, there is something to be desired with the explanation sections of most chapters. The author makes numerous references in equations to vectors that he fails to identify either verbally, or with a diagram. Also, I thought there were insufficient diagrams to adequately convey the concepts being presented.

I also thought it was odd that the first chapter was dedicated to such an elementary concept as vector analysis when there are much more complex mathematical concepts such as multivariable calculus and partial differential equations being used throughout the book that are not given an explanation. If you are studying electromagnetics, the best textbook out there is "Engineering Electromagnetics" by Nathan Ida. Ida explains absolutely everything about electromagnetics, and the problems in this Schaum's outline complement both the material and the problems in that book very well. The last few chapters in this Schaum's are on antennas and waveguides. It is a nice overview, but it is a somewhat shallow treatment.

A good supplement for that material is a 1968 Schaum's outline that is now out of print - "Schaum's Outline on the Theory and Problems of Transmission Lines" (ISBN 0070107475). It contains complete treatments of impedance and admittance matching topics, Smith chart fundamentals, plus many good worked examples and practice problems. The only drawback of this older outline is that the techniques used don't incorporate more of the modern numerical methods that are now more prevalent.

Too Brief!
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2005-09-23
It appears that the author assumes readers will already have a good understanding of calculus, vectors, and a somewhat advanced knowledge of electrostatics and electromagnetism! Readers without this background will likely struggle with the material!

I have a reasonable background (to tertiary level) in mathematics and electrical engineering, but I still found this book difficult to follow in many parts!

The reviews of theory at the beginning of chapters, are a bit too brief and therefore difficult to understand!

Many solved calculations leave out intermediate steps, which makes it difficult to follow. The calculations should include all steps in their derivation and solutions, so that there would be no misunderstanding on how the solutions are determined.

Therefore, this edition is NOT recommended for most people. This book is apparently only suitable for people who have a thorough knowledge of electrostatics, electromagnetics, calculus, and vectors.

To make this book more practical and attractive to others, the material needs to be rewritten and expanded!

I highly would recommend this book for any one looking to understand the basic rights and responsibilities of a landlord.

We purchased some rental property last year and within 2 months I was having to do an eviction.
I purchased both The California Landlord's Law book: Rights and Responsibilites and The California Landlord's Law Book: Evictions.

These were both excellent books. Easy to read and understand. Completely helped me with the eviction process (first one that I ever had to do).

I highly recommend these books to anyone who is thinking about becoming a landlord or is currently a landlord that manages their own property. They give you alot of information about what rights the tenants have and what rights you as the landowner do not have.

I am a first time landlord and I feel I am in good hands with this book. The forms this book provides are also impressive, from rental agreements, to rental applications, it covers everything you can think of and does it extremely well. I cannot say enough good things about this book.

Best Landlord Book out There

Review Date: 2007-11-02
This is a great book for the residential landlord. It covers every aspect of what the typical landlord might face: from screening tenants, maintaining the place, returning the security deposit and evicting dirty rotten lease breachers.

The book is well formatted and easy to read. There is a section that covers every city that has rent control (something that I wasn't able to find anywhere else). But most importantly, it has lots of practical advice on the business of being a landlord--it is not just dry, legal stuff.

The book contains dozens of useful forms in three formats: paper (tear out sheets), .pdf and .rtf. The rtf forms are great because you can type everything, modify the form to meet your needs and end up with a clean document. But why not include .doc format documents? Word is such a popular word processing program, that .doc format should be included.

This book is focused at the small landlord facing typical situations. It is not a treatise on California landlord-tenant law.

The other commentator who had a tenant pay the first year rent in advance had a tenant that comes along once in a blue moon. To criticize this book for not covering this rare event is like criticizing Cosmopolitan magazine for not covering the Middle East. And every attorney is going to tell his/her client that form books are out of date--to do otherwise would put the atty out of business.

Decent introduction

Review Date: 2007-11-03
Edwards creates a book which may be a decent introduction to some more complicated ideas presented by more famous or prolific Political Scientists like Neustadt or Kernell, but there isn't a clear thesis to his book and much of it is uncited, which leads to incorrect assumptions, or things which are flat out wrong.

In specific, he writes on page 332 that "the houses of Congress are highly decentralized," and then runs with that assumption for quite some time. Edwards could not be further from the truth on this matter. It is a nearly unanimous conclusion among Congressional scholars (Smith, Gamm, Schikler, Dodd, Aldrich, Cooper) that the Congress has become almost as centralized as the days of Czar Cannon.

He also writes that Congressional voting records have been moving away from party line voting but this is flat wrong. The levels of party homogeneity are at an all time high and intra party cooperation is at an all time low. This negatively affects his conclusions in reference to the interactions between the President and the Congress.

While this book may be a good overview of certain things, Edwards has incorrect conclusion when it comes to the examination of Congressional / Presidential negotiations... and that relationship ought to be one of the clearest in the mind of any aspiring Political Scientist.

I am buying a new copy to replace my old copy, which is falling apart!

I bought all 3 books and CD's of Sara for my 4-year old daughter. Sometimes I am not sure who loves them more... :-)
We listen to it together while driving places and sometimes she just puts on her Headphones and listens alone. We also read 1-2 chapters a night and she loves the stories!!!
Although she is just 4, she is getting it- always says "remember what Sara says?" and then she quotes Sara for a specific situation.
Amazing...I wish I'd hd this when I was growing up- life would have been less of a surprise!

Go for the Chemerinsky Treatise instead
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2006-04-23
Another reader suggests the Chemerinsky treatise rather than this book. I couldn't agree more. It's true, Con law doesn't lend itself to the E&E format. You are much better off writing a kick-ass outline based on the Chemerinsky book. Be careful though, Erwin Chemerinsky has at least two Con Law books published by Aspen- one is a casebook called "Constitutional Law" (in red cloth binding) and the other is the hornbook called "Constitutional Law: Principles and Policies" in a black paperback. That's the one you want.

Aside from this one bump, the E&E series is excellent, and extremely useful for Civ Pro, Contracts, Torts, Property and Crim Pro. The older editions of Torts are missing product liability and even the new Civ Pro ones are missing class actions, so be aware of that.

Buy something else

Review Date: 2006-06-18
I've been doing the E&E books in preparation for law school, and they've all been accessible and comprehensible. This one, however, is the exception. Maybe it's the ethereal nature of the subject, but this book is killing me. I feel like I am wasting my time reading it, since I can't seem to make out the forest, nor the trees, through the fog. If you're just starting out, I can't recommend this book for preparation. Maybe in the future it will make more sense, but for this beginner, it's very confusing.

Con Law Clarified
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2005-11-25
If you're in law school using the Sullivan and Gunther Con Law casebook, I HIGHLY recommend this study aid! That casebook is huge, intimidating, and not very clear in bringing out the black letter law. Combined with a strict Socratic professor, the law can be very puzzling. Using this E and E, along with Emanuel's outline, makes the entire subject a LOT clearer. If you're planning on going to law school, I recommend checking out the Examples and Explanations books before classes begin, if you have the time and the motivation. They give an overview of the subject that cases help to clarify, and they help clarify the cases that aren't all that clear. In any case, get this book if you're having Con Law trouble with Sullivan.

Very Good - Not Perfect

Review Date: 2005-01-13
This book provides a good overview of national power and federalism. For my particular professor and final it was very helpful. The sections on the methods of constitutional interpretation, the Commerce Power and Dormant Commerce Power, and judicial review are all excellent, and that was pretty much our final. There is no doubt that Chemerinsky is "better" in that it provides more complete information on almost any given subject, but this book is extremely concise, and the examples are extremely helpful.

Waste of Time and Especially Money
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2004-05-20
This E & E is almost useless. It is useful only for a broad (read: extremely general) overview of the material in Con Law I. The examples are ok, but the answers are generally the author's opinions (as are many answers to questions in Con Law I). The book simply does not get to the heart of the topics covered (with the exception of the Dormant CC). You are much better off with Emmanual's--considered the best of the Con Law Commercial Outlines.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who really wants to know about NCLB and the real effects it has on the public education system. She (along with several other progressive education advocates Kohn, Darling-Hammond, Sizer, etc.) tries to get the word out on how detrimental this legislation is for public education: NCLB has made those low-performing schools pleases where no one wants to teach: increased emphasis is placed on some subjects while others are neglected in order to raise standardized test scores. Meier et. al. tries to talk sense to anyone who will listen!!! I want everyone who cares about public education, as well as the future of our democracy, READ THIS BOOK!!!

All Children Left Behind
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-05
No Child Left Behind is probably as awful as the authors suggest, although as a teacher, AKA education worker, I would be the first person to admit that my perspective is limited to a handful of schools; I do not pretend to have the wide vision held by researchers of the sort who wrote this book. I can only refute by anecdote which was admittedly limited in scope. The basis for the critique of NCLB is that the emphasis on testing distracts from the 'business' of education. Of course, this is true. If the schools had been educating the kids, however, this project would never have been conceived. The fact that is forgotten by the critics is that there was no education taking place. The test schedules replace movie watching, cheer leading assemblies, and other obsessions of American educators that have never enhanced learning. Suddenly, instead of doing one's own thing, education workers are being told what to do. This is an anathema to old-line educators but especially to those who hold all standards in contempt. Many teachers trained in Woodstock and devoted to counter-cultural values have no interest in teaching to standards of any kind other than those established by Tiny Tim and Malcolm X. They believe that testing is harmful to children. Secretly, they care not about the kids but about what low scores imply. They are in fact afraid that their performances as teachers are being scrutinized. Defeating NCLB is a way to defeat the accountability movement. Still, NCLB is flawed and can be adjusted and improved. Some of the criticisms are valid. On the other hand, were it not for NCLB, schools would never have to scrutinize spending. And the nasty truth is that the lack of funds has not kept school districts from paying to have superintendent's offices floored in marble or from hiring the cousins of school principals $1000 a night to provide security for back-to-school-nights. That is, there are indeed funding gaps created by NCLB, but that hasn't cramped the style of wasteful, corrupt school administrators. Fear is a powerful motivator. Many useful and wonderful projects have been initiated by districts looking over their shoulders for the first time since NCLB was enacted.

"No Child Left Behind", A Catchy Title For A Lousy Law
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-15
The "No Child Left Behind Law" has now been in effect for about 6 years, and although this book was written 3 years ago, the material is as valid today as it was when it was written. The book consists of essays written by various people with ties to education about what is wrong with the law, and although there is some overlap, much of the information is useful.

Did you know, for instance, that the law does not allow a sub group to drop year over year, even though such drops are within the standard deviation of the statistical results for such tests? That s but one gem to be found in this book.

There is one area where I found they were lacking. They do not address gifted children and how they are being hurt by the law. My daughter is GATE, and I have been fighting the problem of testing for years. She is always in the 99-100% and should have been moved up. Each time I complained, schools gave me various vague answers. Finally, I was taken aside and told she wouldn't be advanced to where she was challenged because the school couldn't afford to lose her top test scores. If she got to where she was challenged, her scores would drop and wouldn't help keep the school at the level it was at. I also knew of at least 10 other parents in the same trap.

So, in addition to hurting the poor and poorly performing, we are now also holding back the gifted kids. Amazing!

We are leaving droves of children behind and wasting precious fiscal and human resources teaching children how to test. Read this book and become prepared before the law causes you to have issues at your school!
