This book offers an excelent summary of Corporations. It has an easy vocabulary and it is very well organized. However, it does not have any margins. In short, I really recommend it as a second source to improve your studies of Corporate Law.

I'm a law student and a big Nutshell fan. This is definitely one of the best Nutshells in the series. It's clear, it's organized, and it covers a broad array of issues in corporate governance and operation. I think it would make a better text than the bulky casebooks we're forced to carry around. It's a must-have for law students, aspiring corporate lawyers, and anyone needing a quick reference on general corporate law.

Good aid for study!

As a foreigner to study law in the U.S.,I find it very difficult
for me to comprehend what the casebooks are trying to express.
I was suggested to search for the nutshell related to the Robert W. Hamilton's thick, heavy and hard-to-understand casebook on Corporations here at Amazon. After I browsed through the introduction of this little book, I found it very concise in expression and easy to catch the points. I consider it a great aid for those who find it hard to study the Hamilton's casebook.

Several years ago, while attending Emery-Riddle Aeronautical University, this book was used as our textbook for Aviation Law. To this day, anytime I get on the subject of Aviation Law, I recommend this book to anyone who holds an FAA certificate. I'm a Maintenance Supervisor for a major airline and have suggested it to my employees who have found themselves in less than desirable situations involving enforcement actions. They always come back to me with the same comment; "I wish I had read this book before I got into trouble." Learn from their mistakes - read the book before you NEED the book. It's short and to the point, you won't be sorry!

A superb reference for aviation professionals & hobbiests.

Now in a completed updated, revised and expanded second edition, Scott Hamilton's Practical Aviation Law provides complete, competent course for self-study or undergraduate study on how the legal system works with respect to aviation activities. With entertaining examples of aviation law in action, all of the recent changes to date in statutory and regulatory law are clarified, including international law. Practical Aviation Law is soundly recommended as a quick reference guide for aviation managers, private and professional aviators, flight cres, airline personnel, aircraft owners, air traffic controllers, air safety investigators, and the non-specialist general reader involved in aviation as a profession or hobby.

Excellent book. A must read for all pilots

I'm a pilot not a lawyer and I have no connection with the author or the company. This excellent book explains in easy to understand language how the aviation legal system works (and doesn't work). The book tells you what steps to take or more importantly, not to take when dealing with the FAA or other aviation related parties. All pilots should read this book to learn how to protect your license.

In this era when too many people -- especially young people -- disdain the thought of going into law, I can envision students reading this small (145 pages) but mighty book and saying, "I want to be a lawyer!" The story of these women, and their David vs. Goliath battle, deserves to be told around campfires -- and made into a movie.

The Scotia Widows is a tale of courage in the face of crippling grief, an American tragedy oft repeated in the dangerous jobs of men who daily descend into the earth to provide for their families, high-risk employment to be sure. Miner's families harbor no illusions, but they have every right to expect decent, safe work conditions. This small, powerful book describes the events of March 9, 1976, when fifteen miners are killed in the Scotia Mines in Eastern Kentucky, three and a half miles beneath the surface; two days later, eleven rescue workers are lost in a second explosion. The first explosion, caused by a high concentration of methane gas and coal dust, puts a violent end to the plans of fifteen families, a painful example of the volatility of their environment. And the company bears the burden of this outrage, for specific safety violations, inadequate ventilation, a lack of ventilation inspections and no trained rescue workers on the scene. The question is: will "Big Daddy Coal" accept responsibility or hide behind the warren-like hallways of the legal system.

Stern, a trial attorney with intimate knowledge of such cases, the common man pitted against the intractable juggernaut of wealth and power, goes directly to the heart of the matter, the widows. It is through their stories that the public can identify with the enormity of their loss and the long, brutal path to justice that makes close friends of former strangers united in common cause. Challenging the industry is an enormous task and the Scotia widows and their determined attorney face four years of litigation and tremendous legal hurdles, a hostile judge, the determination of the mine owners, a critical lack of disclosure by a trial judge, a pro-coal lead defense counsel and a bevy of expensive attorneys with limitless pocketbooks. Depending on their legal representation to navigate this treacherous landscape, it is the widows who refuse to back down in spite of setbacks and daunting odds. One result: the landmark Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1976.

It is to Stern's credit that he not only achieves a settlement for the original fifteen widows, but also for a number of the families who lost loved ones in the second explosion that took the lives of rescue workers. Yet, years later, there are more such outrageous accidents in Utah and Kentucky, proving that in spite of progress, this is an industry that flaunts safety for profit, the vast wealth of owners insulating them from worker's demands until such disasters once more claim the imagination of the nation. With this book as testament, the widow's cause is deeply personal, but also transcendent in the battle on behalf of the individual, the widows reclaiming their right to the American dream. I purchased both this audio book and Brian Tracey's Psychology of Selling, the Art of Closing the Sale on audio book. I have never written a review on Amazon and my dissapointment was enough to motivate me to do se. First off the auther is very distracting with a voice that sounds like Mr. Roper from Threes Company. Secondly just about everything minus one or two things was available in Brian Tracey's audio book. Get Brian Tracey, it's worth the money. It has more information, longer in length, presented much better, no corny humor, and best of all, he doesn't sound like Mr. Roper. Hope this helps.

"When kids hear I live on a boat, they picture a floating mansion outlined with Christmas lights like the one in the old movie Sleepless in Seattle. They think I sit on the deck under an umbrella while waves gently lap up against the sides, foghorns sound in the distance, exotic seabirds fly overhead." Chance Taylor a senior in high-school wishes this was true but his boat the Tiny Dancer is an old, weather-beaten, thirty-foot sailboat. Chances father an alcoholic Gulf War veteran just lost his job which was the last steady job Chance can remember him having.
Chances escape from this is running. Then one day after he was done running a man offered him 200 dollars week to pick up packages by the beach on his running route. In the beginning chance suspects whatever he is picking up is illegal but continues to do it because he needs the money. As Chances friend Melissa and his dad get involved the danger of the situation become more apparent. In the captivating climax Chances father rises above his own problems to save his son. Deuker gives hints of what are in the packages without really telling you and the suspenseful action that he writes will keep you engaged in the story.

The book Runner by Carl Deuker, is about a boy named Chance who lives with his father in Seattle on his sailboat called The Tiny Dancer. Chance's mother left him when he was little and he hasn't seen her since. Now he is living with his father who can't seem to find a job. Chance and his father are short on money and are always late paying the bills. He tries to help his father by washing pots at Ray's Restaurant but it doesn't pay a lot. One day after going for a run, Chance was walking back to his boat when a fat man who worked in the marina office stopped him and offered him a job. "`You know something? I like your spirit. I really do,' said the fat man. `But I don't have time to play games. So listen and listen carefully. You're in trouble, and I can get you out of that trouble. I'm offering you a job, kid. Very good pay; very short hours. When somebody offers you easy money, you should at least hear him out.'" Chance knows that this man is up to no good, but he needs the money to pay the bills.

I thought Runner was an excellent book and I had trouble putting it down. This book is very original and exciting trying to learn what the fat man was doing and why he wanted Chance's help. It was interesting reading about Chance's adventure and hearing all of the problems he was going through with money and school, and finding out what he was doing for the fat man. I highly recommend it to anybody. It is definitely one of my favorite books I have ever read.

Chance is teenager living an unusually hard life. His father is an alcoholic who can neither pay the morgage nor face the truth of their tough situation. When Chance is offered a well-paying job, he must either forget the immorality of it or forget the job. The longer he stays in the buisness, despite his slight ignorance, the deeper he gets. When a suicide or possible murder occurs, Chance must be exteremly cautious to let no one get involved, expecially not someone he cares about. But of course he meets a girl- how ironic!!!
Great work of literature. I recomend this novel to all ya/teen readers.

runner book review

Review Date: 2006-09-18
Chance is the main character in the book called Runner. This book was written by Carl Deuker. Chance and his dad live on a boat in a marina. His dad is having problems paying moorage fees and other expenses. Chance has to help him out. Chance's dad is an alcoholic and a bum spending the rest of his spare change on beer. The father would rather sit out on his tiny boat drinking than helping his son. Chance is having many problems in his life when his mom leaves them to go on and do something more with her life.
Everyone on the pier knows that Chance's dad just got fired from his job. A stranger who nobody has seen before works in the marina office and asks Chance if he needs money to help his dad out. Chance doesn't think twice about this decision. All he has to do is jog a mile to a point, look for a package, then jog back with the package. If there is a package at the point, Chance returns it to the office marina guy. Every week Chance receives $200 dollars for running his normal jog route and returning packages that are there at the point. Chance is desperate for money to keep his boat and his spot on the pier. This job appears easy to Chance. He doesn't think about the contents of the packages and the possible consequences.
In this heart-pounding thriller, Carl Deuker combines global concerns and the threat of terrorism with the everyday worries of a teen who only wants to keep his life together until graduation. Supported by a smart, politically aware girl in his history class, Chance learns there's a lot more to patriotism than just waving a flag, and a lot more to courage than just following rules he knows may be wrong. This timely, complex story will make you think twice about the choices you make and what it means to be brave.
I personally liked this book a lot. It has several good parts in this story and some bad parts too. In life you want to make good choices and not bad ones. The moral of the story is to always think before you act.

Taking the "Reluctance" Out of Readers
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-01
Carl Deuker's RUNNER should attract both teachers of reluctant readers and young readers who feel that reading is not for them. The beginning is interesting enough with its high school bullying episodes and questions of rich (as embodied by romantic interest Melissa Watts) vs. poor kids (our protagonist Chance Taylor, who lives on a small sailboat on a marina's dock), but the book really takes off when recreational runner Chance gets an offer he wants to but cannot refuse -- running mysterious packages in exchange for cash like he and his alcoholic ne'er-do-well father have never seen.

Here the high-octane plot takes off, running away with a reader who can't help but hold on to find out what's happening. Are the packages drugs? Explosives? Money? And who are the mysterious people leaving them behind in the cracks of a retaining wall near a beach on Puget Sound? Chance really doesn't want to know, but soon events take a dangerous turn, and if he cannot work up the guts to seek out the truth, it turns out the truth might be ready to seek him out -- with dire results.

Known for his sports books, Deuker here shows a skill for pacing and plot in a thriller that will keep readers guessing until the spectacular finish. Although it touches on themes of patriotism and social class, RUNNER shouldn't be read for any deep characterization or rich description; realize instead that it is a book meant to entertain with a fast-moving story that should win over even the most reluctant of readers. Teachers should keep it on hand for students who will only try a fast-read, and young readers looking for a quick and engaging plot should "play Chance" by running some packages that may or may not make them an accomplice to a crime.

The author takes the minutes of the Constitutional Convention and goes over every phrase in the Constitution to detail what the founders intended by the document. Essential to understanding what the Constitution means. Can be read as a book, or used as a reference.

"I entirely concur in the propriety of resorting to the sense in which the Constitution was accepted and ratified by the nation. In that sense alone it is the legitimate Constitution. And if that is not the guide in expounding it, there may be no security." (James Madison, in letter to Henry Lee June 25, 1824.)

"On every question of construction [of the Constitution] let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or intended against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed." (Thomas Jefferson, Letter To Justice William Johnson, Monticello. June 12, 1823.)

The book is written in a breezy high-school style that makes it accessible to essentially any reader. The author quotes extensively from the writings of the Founders so that the reader doesn't have to take his word for anything. Junie B. Jones Is Not A Crook is another book by author, Barbara Park, who most definitely has a handle on what young readers want. Her characters are real -- and really, really funny. She turned a pair of lost mittens into a laugh-fest that will hold your child's attention to the last page.

The "bad grammar" and misuse of the language by a five-year-old are just part of the charm, serving as a source of discussion with parents and teachers.

These books are cute, granted. Why kids in second and third grade are encouraged to read these books is beyond me, especially for their AR books. I think for first grade Junie B. is fine, wonderful even, but beyond that I don't think kids that are growing into reading should be prompted to read these books! The Magic Tree House Books are easy to read and are educational and entertaining. Kids should be encouraged to read up not back or down as in the case of Junie B. Her grammar is ridiculous and the reading becomes choppy and inarticulate, kids should be encouraged to read challenging books as they grow. These books to me, turn back the clock.

Junie B. Is Not a Crook by Barbara Park is just the book for you if you are sneaky. The lesson is that you can't just be sneaky. Something bad might happen to you.

The problem is that Junie B. keeps finding things and not putting them in the lost and found. Read the book to find out how she fixes her problem.

Do like characters that make thier ideas work? Do you like clever characters? If you do then this is the book for you.

Junie B., a young 6 year old girl, acts like a brat. One day she takes her precious mittens to school..."Oh, no! Somebody stole my mittens!!!"

At first she thinks just taking a teddy bear backpack form the lost and found in the principal's office is a good idea. But when the principal figures out what she is doing he says "No teady bear backpack".

So if you are the kind of reader that likes characters that try to solve problems, this is the book for you. This book is great for second graders. Most kids think it is funny. Check out other books in the series like Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business.

I am a foreinger citizen and needed help to adjust my status. After researching for hundreds of books and hours online i found this book to be the best thing you need and by far the best source of information. Depending on your case you may not even have to hire a lawyer, just like i didn't, and save hundreds of dollars. Just read it many times because the USCIS process is complex and sometimes confusing but after reading this book you will think you are a pro. Wish somebody had recommended me this book before i spent so much time searching. I could not afford a lawyer, had my case (adjustment of status) started in august and at the end of october i got my green card (all in less than 3 months - los angeles office). I am very happy, and thanx to the author of this book. Just buy it, and God bless your case.

It gives you tons of information and resources that is a huge help and gives you a sense of ease through the stressful, long and expensive process of immigration. I highly recommend this book- it is worth it for peace of mind! I also found a lot of help from contacting my local representative's immigration department, who helps with finding out the status of your case, has access to immigration phone numbers and also can answer any additional questions that this book doesn't answer.

You would be crazy not to get this reference!!

My husband is from Germany and we 'discovered' one day that he would be in trouble if he married me without a fiance visa and going through the right channels. We were panicked and we found this reference online. With all of the good reviews, we decided to buy it, and it helped us unbelievably! We were able not only to find a better way to go about it, but it provides checklists for the option you choose, explains all of the possible scenarios that you may be in and which route would be right for you, and all the step by step instructions on how to fill out every single form. Do go onto the uscis.gov website for updates addresses for shipping your forms and the current fee information, but rely completely on this book for everything else!! We couldn't have made it without it! It kept us sane in our time of confusion and worry!
