This is a workbook to go with Excuse Me, Your Life Is Waiting: The Astonishing Power of Feelings.
Once you have read the first book you then use this as your day book where you put things into practice. Since there is a bit of a list of things to remember, you tackle your corrective (stim:response) behaviour here in nice easy chunks till you get the flow.
It is religion/cult free, but helps if you think there is a god or buddha, if not that then even if as a darwinist you cannot help make use of this.
The only people who wont find this book of use is those that take comfort in being lifes victim as some kind of myarter (so why are you singled out by god to suffer so?).

Not the best choice for spiritual beginners

If you believe that other people are to blame for your life situations, then this might be a good book to read and use. It starts with the assumption that every reader is in that state and needs to get out of it, and introduces some good concepts to chew on.

However, this isn't the best or only book for getting these concepts, partly because of that assumption on the author's part that everyone using her play book is starting in the gutter, figuratively speaking. Another, much more excellent work for beginners and people intermediate on the path is Ingrid Katal's What is Your Honor Code?. Ingrid is much more neutral on the suject of where you, the reader, might be at, and instead provides tools that allow you to make your own decisions about where you are and where you want to go.

In addition, anyone reading any of Seth's books (particularly The Nature of Personal Reality: Specific, Practical Techniques for Solving Everyday Problems and Enriching the Life You Know and The "Unknown" Reality, Vol. 1: A Seth Book and The "Unknown" Reality, Vol. 2: A Seth Book, and then doing A Course in Miracles, is going to get all of the important, true concepts (there are some that I don't think are true) that are introduced in this play book, plus some others, presented in very gentle, loving ways.

Wow. Interesting mix of different dieties in the Excuse me Your Life is Waiting Series....some of the exercises with "spirit guides" and invoking different dieties was quite interesting and confusing. It got a little wierd invoking the "God of Pan" and all other manner of "Gods" in some of the exercises...-you just have to sift through the freaky meditations and use what fits with you. The author seems to be very confused on who God is--that was the only part that bothered me. The actual meat of the book as far as utilizing the law of attraction definately and how we blame a lot of what's OUTSIDE instead of what's INSIDE US for our results in life--THAT was the part I could use!

Like most people I bought Excuse me your Life is Waiting, read it and loved it. Then I bought the companion Playbook, took one look at all the exercises and let it gather dust on a book shelf. I already knew how to create goals, visualize what I wanted in my life and take action steps to create the jobs and situations I wanted. I did not need a new way to accomplish the same thing. But I also knew that I would always fall into a safe, comfy zone and stop doing anything once I got what I wanted. And that's when the trouble would begin.

This year it seems like everything came crashing down at once. For the first time in my life I had a life threatening illness that used up all my leave for year before the end of the summer. Then money seemed to disappear before it even made it to my bank account. And the job that I loved suddenly required 10 hour days, seven days a week support. I had no time for myself, family or friends.

I needed to take a different approach to my life. Just being reactive, charging in and taking action was just making me exhausted and often made the situation worse.

I dusted off Lynn's Playbook and decided to not just skim for the parts of my life I needed to fix first. I decided to take my time and do a few pages each day. This meant I had to turn off my TV and computer, and sit and pay attention to me. As an addicted multi-tasker this was very hard for me to do. It was also hard to admit that I had pushed and numbed down my feelings so that nothing upset me anymore.

I started setting aside an hour each night with the book and a big journal to do the exercises in, and decided to commit to the process. After the first week I noticed I could actually feel my emotions as they occurred instead of ignoring them. I was embarrassed to find out I was in a constant state of annoyance with my life, and even worse with everyone and everything around me.

I practiced each exercise in order and did the meditations. Each one builds on the next, so sometimes I repeated an exercise or meditation until I felt I really understood what I needed to know.

In about a week things started to change. My relationships with my family, friends, co-workers and especially my boss became happier and more relaxed. I know I was the one who changed. They were just responding to the new positive vibrations I was sending out, instead of the dark, annoying don't bother me with anything stupid signal I was sending before.

In about two weeks new ideas and new money began flowing in. I learned that if I approach a new goal or plan with confidence and faith, I was more likely to get a positive outcome. If I reacted to the situation with a whine and fear if I don't get this I am going to be out of a job, house, etc.; then I just got more lack in my life.

I have had continued success using this Playbook and now do one exercise or meditation as a weekly focus. My life has steadily improved and so has my ability to sense when I fear something so I can identify why I fear it and switch to a more positive emotion and solution to the issue. I have a long way to go, but I love the changes I am seeing in myself and my new world.

This Playbook helps you identify old habits that are holding you back, old issues and problems that no longer have meaning in your life and gives you positive ways to let them go so you can create the life you really want. And while some of the exercises may seem repetitive, Lynn is just trying to reinforce your new positive outlook on life.

Even if you do not believe in the Law of Attraction (you radiate what you attract via your emotions/feelings/thoughts), this book will help you create a more positive you.

If you want to try a new way of living, I strongly suggest this Playbook as a solo self improvement activity or as a touchstone for a self help group.

Law of the land

Review Date: 2005-03-31
The power to determine the law of the land resides within every citizen of the country by means of electing the officials they choose and the judicial system only upholds the law. The citizens of a country elect their leaders and once elected they are enshrined with the right to uphold the economic and political stability but any improper actions of a government should be corrected by means of the judicial process rather than by any political process. All differing opinions should be allowed to coexist with checks and balances as determined by the judicial system.

ambiguity made clear

Legal reasoning is famously ambiguous: there's no objective way to determine the outcome of a given case as there is with a physics problem. If you know the weight of an item and the height from which it drops, you are able to determine fairly objectively (i) the rate at which it will fall to the earth and (ii) the time it will take to fall to the earth from the point at which it is dropped. Law, unfortunately, is not so straight-forward. Understanding its assumptions is absolutely critical to developing any sort of sophisticated understanding about the ways in which law affects civilization. This book provides a broad outline of those assumptions. I suggest having at least a rudimentary background in intellectual history and political philosophy to get the most out of this book.

I appreciate Edward Levi's attention to detail. This book definitely goes beyond the standard textbook in terms of putting together a guide that is both interesting to read and informative. I'd recommend it to anybody in my situation, planning to attend law school, or even to practicing attorneys in need of a handy, compact reference guide to the basics.

Not Quite an Introduction

While Levi clarifies much that's uncertain about legal interpretation, I don't recommend this book for those with no previous studies in law. If you must read it -- and there ARE rewards from doing so -- be sure to have a law dictionary at hand.

Besides using legal terms that aren't explained, Levi's prose is so dense as to be almost unreadable, but worse, it lacks anything resembling clarity. He often barges straight in to lengthy analyses of concepts without explaining the basic terms he uses or even why they're relevant; these must be induced from the text while reading. Since Levi is usually demonstrating through examples how concepts change over time, however, it's difficult to pin down what the concept means at any one point, before Levi has already jumped ahead to the next point without explaining either.

It's also highly recommended that you look up the cases Levi cites, since his quotations from judges rarely contain enough critical information to piece together the actual concept involved. Finding the original and just reading the parts that he replaced with ellipses add an infinite degree of clarity.

I love this dictionary!

I bought this dictionary 4 years ago and since then it has been invaluable to me in getting through law school and the bar exam. My copy is so tattered and worn out, I'm thinking of buying a new one to replace it. I highly recommend it over Black's and others that have traditionally been regarded essential for law students and lawyers. Too often with the other legal dictionaries, you look up a word, and then to understand the given definition you end up having to look up additional words. Not so with this book--it lays out legal definitions in the most simple and straightforward manner possible. For many terms, it even gives short hypotheticals to illustrate the term in its proper context.

Even though it's titled "For Non-Lawyers" I highly recommend this book to law students, lawyers, paralegals, and anyone else who might appreciate legal jargon explained in an easily understandable way.

Way too general

This dictionary may be good for the layman, but it is far too general for a law student or lawyer. Only the most common legal words are included, so most of the words are familiar to lawyers. Those words that are obscure enough to require a dictionary are not included. I would recommend this dictionary to a layman who wants to understand simple legal terms, but not to a lawyer or law student.

Good enough for me

Barron's "Dictionary of Legal Terms" is a solid text. When I asked a law friend of mine which law dictionary I should purchase he told me that "Black's" was the best law dictionary out there. However, it is rather expensive at eighty or so dollars. Even the pocket version of the text is at least twenty dollars. So I sprang for this law dictionary at about eight dollars.

I was quite impressed and quite educated by the Barron's work. It was informative and complete, yet simple enough for a non-law student to understand. At my local bookstore I compared the Barron's dictionary with some others and found this one more to my liking because it provides examples for certain definitions; something the other texts did not.

The only reason that I did not give this 5 stars is that it is not as complete as some of the other books that I looked at. This version has "more than 2500 legal terms" and the other books were all about 3000. However, I have not yet come across a word or jargon that I was unable to find in this book so I am not sure what the other 500+ words or phrases are.

Solid book. Highly recommended.

I am currently using this book for an environmental law class dedicated solely to the most important environmental legislation. Not only have a I found numerous typos in this book (ridiculous seeing as it's the 6th edition), I find that the book is only helpful if you want numerous statistics thrown at you and no real analysis of the effectiveness of American environmental legislation. The chapters are exceedingly long and usually contain nothing more than minimal information on the laws, a plethora of useless statistics, and a paragraph or two of analysis. From a student's perspective, this is probably the WORST textbook I have used in college.

I've used this book in two seated classes and one online course on environmental law. If you want a glorified HAZMAT course or have decided that the way our legal system actually operates doesn't matter, then look elsewhere. This is not a science book (nor should it be). If you want a text that students find easy to read and that provides comprehensive coverage of environmental law and our legal system, this is your book.

The author of this books is an attorney who does a fairly good job with the big picture but not very well with the science. If you're only looking for a quick study of the structure of environmental law in the U.S., which is about one-third of this book, it's readable and informative. It also uses language and structure that's accessible for advanced high school and lower division college students in giving and overview of the U.S. legal and regulatory system for the environment. The author creates a good historical context for these discussions. However, the book begins to lose its polish when the author ventures into discussions of the science behind the law. I noted several points where the presentation of the science was clearly poorly informed (ozone and global warming, nuclear and alternative engery). If you're only looking for an general introduction to environmenal law, this book will get you started. But, if you want to get a good idea of the science that drives environmental law, keep looking.

First of all, no 136 page book is worth 22 dollars and change. I also have a problem with a book that teaches someone how to use another book, whereas the original book costs less than the explanation book. Why risk the explanation book getting it wrong (as it does; I second the appellate lawyer's view) when you can sit down with the orginal book?

I know law students are always looking for the one book that will have all the knowledge they need, the magic spellbook of law, but really, you don't need more than the Bluebook, Gardner's Redbook, and your casebook (maybe the Examples and Explanations series) for law school. Forget getting Black's Law Dictionary; it's a piece of garbage now, been dumbed down to the point of useless.

The Blue Book is not complicated, and if you think it is, trying to understand it will improve your mind. If you don't want to do that, maybe you shouldn't be a law student and save the legal profession from a mediocre mind.

Understanding and Mastering The Bluebook: A Guide for Students and Practitioners

I bought this book to help me teach bluebooking to our firm's paralegals, and it will be a good resource. But it contains too many mistakes to be useful as a text. Here are some examples:
1. On page 13, the author states that a case cite in mid-sentence is not followed by a comma unless it is part of an independent clause that would ordinarily require a comma. This is contrary to Rule B5.3 of the Bluebook. The elements of the citation other than the case name must always be "set off" by commas (i.e., before and after) if they are mid-sentence.
2. The definition of "E.g." on page 90 is incorrect, and the "example" makes no sense. "E.g." means "for example," so you would never use it in the middle of a string cite.
3. On p. 93, the author says to combine "See + e.g.," as "See e.g.,". While it is true that the signal "see" does not require a comma, "e.g." must be set off by commas ("See, e.g.,"). See Rule R1.2(a) of the Bluebook for examples.
4. The comma after "accord" in the example on page 90 appears to be a typo - the author clearly knows better.
It's a great start, so I hope there's a second edition in the works.

My students love this book and so do I!

I got this book as a gift, and initially I wasn't too excited about it. I believe that we eat with our eyes, and that being said, I like cookbooks with pictures. I like images that make my mouth water and my hands eager to get to work. This book lacks visual stimulation, but it makes up for that in the recipes. I have now tried a number of these recipes, and for each one that I try, I have to make it a second time. I now have faith that whichever recipe I choose, it will taste fabulous and not require too much effort.

This cookbook is just like all her others. The only difference is she or should
I say her ghost writer puts the recipes into groupings by the number of people the recipe
will feed. The recipes are similar to ones from her show and in her other cookbooks.
Rather than buying it get it from the library first to see if you even want it.
I made the mistake of buying it and am sorry I did. I own several cookbooks by other Food Network
people and each one is different than the one before. Maybe Rachael is too over-exposed that she
is running out of ideas.

I am currently taking Securities Law and we are using this book. It is highly dense, and the authors are poor writers. They clearly know the material and understand the distinctions, but I am often frustrated that they simply do not make their points more clearly. My advice is simple: if you are required to use this text, get it, but also use the Examples & Explanations book by Alan R. Palmiter because the prose is much easier to understand. I cannot speak for the other study aids, but they may work too. The key is getting one to complement this book. I think the E & E is a good choice because securities law is easier to learn by tackling problems and the E & E book has problems and answers (the casebook has problems too, but no answers -- you get those from the prof). Good luck!

Okay, so this isn't pleasure reading...And I only bought it because it was assigned.
Still, I'm working in the securities area this summer and I don't know what I'd do without it. Hornbooks are great and I highly recommend them. But sometimes they don't really delve into the fine points of the law. This book is all about the fine points. I'll admit it's dense, but securities law isn't the simplest of topics. The other textbooks I've seen don't have as many cases and they seem to gloss over important topics like materiality which isn't that terrible until you need to know whether a particular activity is material.

Does the book cover a lot of ground? Yes. Is it a challenging read? Yes. Is there a better Sec. Reg. text out there? I haven't seen one.

This is a very unclear book with horrible, dense prose. The authors seem to have an impressive grasp of securities law, and fill the notes with many meaningful substantive explications of various technical points, but they are basically just awful writers, which makes this text a serious chore to read. Of course, no one is going to buy it unless it is assigned in a law school class, so its lack of clarity unfortunately won't really induce "customers" to buy a different securities text, but it is worth noting that you will probably need to go ahead and buy a very good hornbook right from the start. In your class, I'd suggest you read this text as little as possible: it will make your head hurt, and it's far too dense to teach you securities regulation effectively.
