This book is worth it's weight in gold and then some. It is written in plain language, so it is easy to understand, and it addresses all of the areas we (veterans) need to negotiate the maze of government bureaucracy. I highly recommend it.

This book is very helpful for Veterans that are filing claims with the VA. I wish this book was available when I put in my claim about 8 years ago.It goes and gives input and resources that I never knew existed. The author explains how the VA goes about denying claims and how a veteran can avoid some of the pitfalls so the veteran has at least a fighting chance of winning their claim.

This is the first book I have read on this subject. It is completely factual and helpful. It is a shame to the country of the United States that lets the VA get away with the things it does to and against the Veterans that have served their country so proudly. I would recommend that every veteran read this book regardless if you have a current need to file a claim or maybe in the future. After reading, contact your Congressmen to file complaints against the VA.
I highly recommend this book.

Being a small business owner, this book draw my attention from tons of others sitting on the bookstore shelf and I was not disappointed - well structured and easy to read wealth of information that helps you navigate through complexities of IRS official publications. Add to that a bit of humor scattered throughout the book and reading about taxes and accounting turns out to be a pleasure ! Would certainly give it triple BUY rating

I walked into my local library one day looking for something easy-to-read concerning taxes. Mr. Daily's book title quickly captured my attention. I not only couldn't put the book down, I later checked it out of the library that day and read the first two chapters that night.
A week later after reading two additional chapters, I bought the book online. "It was that good." Simple as that! It made tax law come alive to me and I was able to understand taxes much more clearly.
Tax Attorney Frederick W. Daily's book, "Tax Savvy for Small Business," in my professional opinion, would be considered 'required reading' for anyone who prepares returns or represents taxpayers before the IRS, as I soon will be doing as an Enrolled Agent (EA). CPAs and lawyers are licensed by the individuals states. EAs on the other hand, are nationally licensed.
"This book IS... my study guide and bible" (if you will) in addition to... my study materials in preparation for the Enrolled Agent (EA) exam.

Great book and an essential read for anyone starting and running a business. Essential advice as well as useful guides for communicating with the IRS. Examples I've used include changing my S corp election to a C corp and also the process to apply for a first time abatement of penalties. This book has helped reduce my tax related anxieties to a tolerable level. Tax attorney Frederick W. Daily has consolidated a wealth of information into a easy to read and extremely useful 300+ page reference. This will be one of my core texts when I teach a course on "How to Start and Run a Company" at the local community college. I've waited for nearly two decades to start a company because the tax code always overwhelmed me (and I had studied accounting for two years in college before becoming an engineer). If I had read this book earlier I would not have been nearly so apprehensive.

Mr. Daily's treatment of taxation as it relates to a small business owner is top knotch. Not only is it a thorough reference book but his style of writing makes it a pleasure to read (many authors of text books could benefit from his approach).
Particularly I found the examples helpful and "real world" enough to drive home the point.

The previous review suggests that the casebook is not a good choice for someone wanting to focus in greater detail on patent prosecution or litigation. I imagine this is intended for use in a survey course, and think it's fine. It certainly does not teach the MPEP or prepare someone to take the patent bar, but that is not its purpose; I used the PatBar course for that. As far as patent litigation, I won't a course in that until next semester, but I believe this casebook did a nice job in surveying the important principles in litigation.

This casebook contained all the usual cases that are typical in a patent law/intellectual property casebook. Unfortunately, there should have been more content which described the patent process as well as the patent prosecution procedure in order to allow the reader to fit the case law into the appropriate scheme of things.

I think this book was a good study tool for taking the Police Civil Service test. It taught me a lot about the process of becoming a Police Officer and what to expect throughout the process.
The problem is that not all Civil Service tests are the same. My test consisted of a listening portion (not found in this study guide), reading comprehension (which is gone over in this book), and about 75 percent of my test was a personality test. Of course, the book couldn't help with that.
Buy the book as it is a good source of information and may be a huge help in taking the test but keep in mind all tests are different and there may be parts of the Civil Service test that you really can't study for. Will you master the Police Officer Exam? Possibly. However, there's no book you can buy that can really guarantee that. Good luck!

I bought this book in addition to Barron's Police Officer Exam book. I found that the sample tests in the Barron's book were more like the actual written exams I have taken, however, the Arco book had a lot of extra information to help you out with the oral interviews and psych evals which made it a better all around book. Id recommend getting both, but if you can only get one, Id choose the Arco.

I closely scrutinized a half dozen cop test prep books and purchased another besides this one. 'Master the Police Officer Exam' is significantly above the others. Its greatest strength is that it seems to be written by someone who knows specifically about cop tests- not just tests in general. There is above and beyond detailed information not just on the many aspects and types of written exams, but also the different video tests. In addition, its many practice tests are authentic and are from different sources (NYPD and NCJOSI).

This is by far the simplest out of the 3 other books I have already completed. However, comparing this one to the others these questions seem to be less likely to be on a police exam (at least for CT), and a lot of the questions asked are not clear. Good book if your starting out, but won't help that much if your test taking veteran like myself. Judgment and oral board questions are best in Larry Jetmore's police exam guide, and the Barron's police guide has excellent memorization and recognition tests that will definitely be on your test. I suggest you buy as many preparation guides as you can for just over $10 since it goes without saying how expensive these police exams are today. ($25-75)

The "code", in this case plumbing, is essentially an overpriced, legal document.
Most states have created their own version of plumbing code with many, major municipalities adding restrictions at local levels.
In a perfect world, "the" plumbing code would rigorously define a system of best practices - this "International," plumbing code reflects insurance companies' interests in establishing a safe and reasonably, low level of liability.
The "code" is written by attorney's in cooperation with plumbers, builders, supplier's of materials and various, other, self interest groups.
It is vague, possesses no visual representations, poorly indexed, unreferenced and in many cases a hinderance to the adoption of new materials and design.
It makes more sense to purchase a copy of your state or local municipality's plumbing code. In most cases, the local codes are available and inexpensive. Periodic updates are usually available for a modest fee. The sad part is that most local codes explain very little and are poor substitutes for books oriented towards plumbing system design or repairs.
Because there is no popular movement to make the code "more accessible -" we are stuck with it.
It is what it is!

Interesting the similarities between the last Virginia Plumbing Code and the first International Plumbing code, eh? It's not coincidence.
It appears that the "International Code Council"... located in Virginia, no less... had a stroke of brilliance. They produced a gem of a name for their book- the "International" Plumbing Code. What? They using these codes in Mexico? Ecuador? France?
A good name sells anything. This book is a ridiculous reduction of plumbing codes, stuffed into a few pages. It's obvious very few contemporary issues are addressed. Unfortunately, bureaucrats aren't plumbers... which is why several states have adopted it as their new gospel on plumbing, and the International Code Council's dreams are becoming reailty. I've had multiple discussions with individuals "just so excited that someone finally took up the task to umbrella "all" the plumbing codes into one national code... so we can all be on the same page now... like the National Electrical Code!"
Absolutely hysterical

with 148, the book didn't really go into detail into why some of the codes were wrote certain ways. I've read many other code book and they offer explanation into why its a certain way. This book doesn't make the code relatable so its going to feel cold to read, just bare details.

This book is a good introduction to a difficult topic. The authors don't focus on just the traditional "Costra Nostra" topics that many authors fall prey too. The authors carefully blend National and International Organized Crime (OC)Groups, Theories of OC and methods for controling the spread and growth of the groups.
The book is written in a textbook fashion and the authors provide keywords at the end of each chapter to assit the student in learning the main points of each chapter.
Both the authors appear very knowledgable in this subject and they continue to add current information into their newer additions.

While the book was not specific to the Texas Insurance exam, it did provide enough background to enable me to pass the Texas exam the first time. If you are new to the insurance industry, you should supplement this text with specific information on your state exam. Since I had previously held an insurance license this was a great review and covered some of the new areas. First timers should probably supplement this with an online course of study approved by their state. The exam, administered in Texas by Prometric services, has some questions that the book did not seem to cover in quite the same way. Study the sample questions and answer rationale carefully. Good luck.

This book really was an asset in preparing for the state test. It was very informative and I would agree with the other review that stated that its information was better than what the class offered. The chapter quizzes were very good and the explanations of WHY the answers were what they were helped a lot. It didn't just give you the correct A, B, C, D answer - it went on to define the reasonings. I used the CD that came with it along with the readings and found them helpful. This is a great book to have at your side when taking the class. Good luck!

When I decided to make a career change, I didn't have the luxury of taking a lot of courses and time to study. I needed to jump right in and start working as an assistant. I couldn't without my Group 1 license. I finished the book in one week, practiced the tests on the CD and passed the exam the first time.
The book is an easy read, although there are a couple of technical areas which could use a little more depth. The chapter tests help point out areas to review and the CD was a big help going back over the entire book.
All in all, it was worth the price.
