Parece que el Sr. Perez Reverte tiene muchos admiradosres y sin duda se lo ha ganado, pero este libro (que es el primero que leo de el)no me parece tan increible, esta lleno de descripciones, sin duda bastante graficas, que despiertan la imaginacion, pero tambien esta lleno de lugares comunes: la increiblemente bella aristrocrata venida a menos, el ejecutivo arribista, los malandrines de poca monta; por cierto me harto el caracolillo de la Niña Puñales, y el final fue bastante predecible. En fin he leido mejores.
Le doy tres estrellas por sus descripciones en general.

How Perez-Reverte manages to keep writing book after book which rivets the reader to the pages amazes me. Again, another masterpiece. From his seedy characters of the "Seville underworld" each with their own truckful of baggage, and their interestingly tight relationships; to the Seville elite, also each with a skeleton in their closet; to the complicated hierarchy and in-fighting of the catholic church. Only Perez-Reverte is able to bring these three totally different types of people together in one novel and make it believable and a pleasure to read. The reader is glued to the book after reading the opening chapter in which a hacker has broken into the Pope's personal computer, which sets in motion the investigation of small insignificant church in Seville and the identity of the hacker. A must read for all Perez-Reverte fans, and a good starting point for those new to this incredibly gifted author.

Unos amigos me regalaron la 17ª edición de esta novela hace un año. Aunque de Pérez-Reverte sólo he leído La Tabla de Flandes, me parece que éste tiene que ser uno de sus mejores libros. Después de leerlo, me es evidente la razón por la que es un autor tan popular.

El punto fuerte de Pérez-Reverte es el detalle con el que define a sus personajes. Es fácil llegar a conocerlos, se hacen de carne y hueso, y en consecuencia el lector desarrolla una empatía con ellos, incluso con los malos de la historia. Esta novela, además, tiene la ventaja de poseer un personaje central que se hace inmediatamente de querer. Es extraño, ya que el Padre Quart no es entrañable, pero sus circunstancias, pasadas y actuales, ponen su papel en perspectiva favorable. Hablando de caracteres realistas, el que más dificultad tuve en aceptar es Vísperas. Todo es posible en la Viña del Señor, pero no sé, no sé...

Una cosa que no aguanto en una novela es que el autor te lo ponga a tiro hecho. Hay veces que es tan obvio lo que va a ocurrir, o lo que de verdad ha pasado, que la trama pierde interés, y una se pregunta si el autor no podría haberle dedicado más tiempo o más neuronas a su escritura. En el caso de esta obra, hay cosas que sí adiviné, pero con algo de trabajo. Eso es exactamente lo que busco en un libro, algo que me haga poner el cerebro en movimiento. Este libro es de los mejores que he leído en el año 2000.

Desde la primera pagina este libro me ha cogido y no me solto hasta que leí la ultima. Perez-Reverte es un autor con la capacidad de escribir sobre la condición humana como muy, pero muy, pocos. Su descripcion de la tentación sentido por el protaganista es nada menos que excepcional. Por otra parte escribe con una atención al detalle excepcional. Hasta ahora este misterio es mi libro preferido de el.

This book grabbed ahold of me from the first page and did not let me go until the last. Perez-Reverte has a great capacity to write about the human condition as very, but bery, few can. His descrition of the temptation felt by the protaganist is nothing short of exceptional. On anopther front he writes with an exceptional atention to detail. Up to this point this is my favorite book by him.

Uno de mis buenos amigos cuya recomendación en lo que se refiere a libros goza de gran credibilidad me venía recomendando que leyera algo de Arturo - Pérez Reverte y hay que decir que de nuevo pegó en el clavo.

Aquí tenemos un héroe que es un sacerdote, con sus pies bien colocados en el mundo terrenal de las intrigas vaticanas y el ámbito nada santo de la iglesia, para el cual si Dios existe o no es lo de menos en su vida.

Pero en su labor de guardián de los intereses del Vaticano lo mandan a investigar quien puede ser un "hacker" que ha logrado colarse al computador personal del Papa, a fin de abogar por la protección de una iglesia barroca en Sevilla que ha sido abandonada a suerte por la curia de esa ciudad.

En la trama nos encontraremos una villanos que no se pueden concebir como tales pues su conciencia ética fue formada por Maquiavelo y otro grupo de sicarios que pareciera extraído de los comics de Mortadelo y Filemón.

El paralelo que se da entre la historia de Carlota Breuer y la Iglesia, es completamente poética, apasionante y encaja perfectamente en crear una motivación para la conducta final de Lorenzo Quart.

De otra parte que podemos decir de los personajes? Cada uno de ellos es perfecto en su rol y completamente definido, no hay que hacer ningún esfuerzo por imaginarlos, casi que bailan ante nuestros ojos.

Son muy pocos autores quienes tienen la capacidad para formar una trama donde el trasfondo histórico, el misterio, la política las descripciones arquitectónicas, el romance, la poesía, el humor y hasta la acción se mezclan impecablemente de manera tal que esta obra podría ser catalogada en cualquiera de estos temas sin problema. Si anda buscando un libro que lo retire del mundo que lo rodea y lo coloque a caminar en la mitad de Sevilla para divertirse como loco, no lo dude, escoja este.

Es una guia que muestra como enfrentar exitosamente las diferentes presiones que se presentan en el curso de la vida, tales como:
el temor,
la ansiedad,
la soledad,
la tentacion,
la inferioridad,
la ira,
los errores,
las perdidas.

Un libros bastante bueno para pensar acerca de los varios desafios de la vida cristiana y que vale la pena leer.

Tambien le recomiendo, sobre la vida cristiana: Como Relacionarse Mejor: Manual de Tecnicas Para Desarrollar Relaciones Mas Satisfactorias, Dinamicas y Duraderas (Serie Recursos Ministeriales)

Este libro nos demuestra el gran poder y capacidad que contiene nuestra mente humana. This is an excellent novel. Easily understood by students of 4th year or later. However, this edition falls apart easily. The pages fall out during the first reading. I use bullclips to hold the book together.

En las épocas del general Gustavo Rojas Pinillas, llegado al poder a través de un golpe de estado, y a posteriori dictador de Colombia, tuvo a bien ocurrir un accidente en un buque de la armada colombiana, en dicho buque iba contrabando ilegal, y esa carga hizo que siete marineros murieran al caerse la carga mal sujetada, y allí en ese evento sucedió el naufragio de Luis Alejandro Velasco. Dicha persona al pasar el auge de su fama por haberse salvado, se entrevistó en aquel entonces con un novel periodista que escribió su historia en forma de relatos seriados en el periódico El Espectador de Bogotá, ese periodista es Gabriel García Márquez, tiempo después esos relatos narrados de excelente manera por aquel joven, se documentaron para hacer un libro, el Relato de un Náufrago, que estuvo diez días a la deriva sin beber ni comer, que fue proclamado héroe de la patria, besado por las reinas de la belleza y hecho rico por la publicidad, y luego aborrecido por el gobierno y olvidado para siempre.



Relato de un náufrago cuenta la historia de Luis Alejandro Velasco, una historia que te gancha de inmediato, a pesar de que el título te dice de manera resumida, el principio, desarrollo y fin de la historia, quedas prendido de su contenido, que difícilmente soltarás la misma, hasta no haberla recorrido de principio a fin.






La carga, el contrabando que portaba aquel buque de la armada, se había soltado y había provocado la caída de hombres al agua: Luis Rengifo, Ramón Herrera, Miguel Ortega, Guillermo Pozo, fueron algunos de los desafortunados accidentados, los cuales Velasco había visto morir, el que más le había impactado era Luis Rengifo, quien desesperado antes de ahogarse, y al ver a Velasco en la balsa, desesperado le gritaba " rema para acá, Gordo", "Gordo, rema para éste lado"...esas frases habían quedado en la mente del náufrago sobreviviente por mucho tiempo...



El primer día: La gran esperanza de que pronto aviones de la marina, irían en su rescate, al enterarse del accidente, lo mantenía alerta viendo el horizonte, tranquilo, controlado, esperando ser visto y rescatado, pero nada sucedía ese día, pero no había impaciencia aún...

Segundo día: Los tiburones llegan puntuales a las cinco, Velasco coincidentemente portaba un reloj cuando el accidente se presentó, y se percató de que día tras día, la llegada puntual de los tiburones era, las cinco de la tarde..muchas historias tendrían que pasar aún con ellos...



Tercer día: Nada sucedió, la desesperación empezó a poner los nervios alterados de Velasco, nada, nada..

Cuarto Día: La pérdida de la noción del tiempo, en que día estamos, en que día vivimos, cuanto tiempo ha transcurrido, que pasa si llego a una isla de caníbales?..La imaginación empezaba a jugar parte importante del control o descontrol de la situación, la sed y el hambre eran ya desesperantes, los rayos del sol y la sal del agua, laceraba ya su cuerpo, había dolor profundo en la garganta, en el pecho y debajo de las clavículas, había que tomar agua salada?.



Quinto día: Las alucinaciones, Jaime Manjarrez aparecía al bordo de la balsa, y las pláticas se establecían, los deseos de morir empezaban a aparecer...





Ansiedad, angustia, desesperación..eran las sensaciones que habrían de ser constante en las horas, que significaban vidas, de Velasco el Náufrago...Y a pesar de que sabemos con anticipación que el hombre había de salvar la vida, llega un momento en que nos sentimos tan compenetrados con la narración, con los detalles, algo muy propio de García Márquez, que olvidamos lo que sucederá y vivimos el pasado en el presente, y nos angustiamos y agobiamos con el personaje que sufre, que llora, que desespera...mil historias aún por venir y vivir con ellos...que comió?, que bebió?, como sobrevivió? Fue un heroísmo?, o una historia fantasía-inventada?



Te invito a que leas éste, para mi, excelente libro, que vivas el detalle narrativo de García Márquez y sobre todo, que lo disfrutes, te aseguro y garantizo, que esas dos o tres horas que le dediques, no serán tiempo perdido, si no por el contrario..será una aventura más, que vivirás intensamente, llevado por la mágica forma de escribir del autor..uno de mis favoritos...





The Saint!!!

This is a real page-turner. Start it when you have some real reading time available, because you will not want to put it down once you have started. I have read it several times already and am looking forward to reading it again. Relato de un Naufrago and The Old Man and the Sea are the only two books of this type that I have ever been able to complete, not being a serious fan of this type of tale. Relato de un Naufrago is an excellent, exciting read.

This is a very interesting version of Cinderella and I really like the fact that it is a truly bilingual book. Great for elementary school libraries.

A Cultural Wonder Gold Star is a picture book that takes the classic tale of Cinderella and adds the Mexican heritage to it. Arcìa is the young heroin of the story. She begs her father to marry her neighbor, Margarita because Margarita is so nice to her. Finally the father agrees and marries her. Margarita turns out to be a bad person who only cares for her two daughters. Arcìa?s father buys all the girls a sheep so that they can raise and take care of them so that later they can shear and sell them. Each girl takes her sheep to bathe at a river where they meet a hawk. Arcìa is nice to the hawk and receives a gold star on her head but the other two sisters are mean to the hawk. One gets a donkey ear while the other gets a greenhorn. When it is time for the ball the sisters cover their obscenities and go. Since Arcìa doesn?t have any shoes or nice clothes, she goes and watches from a window. As in most Cinderella tales, the Prince goes on a hunt, but this prince goes on a hunt for the girl with the golden star. Arcìa marries the prince, and they live happily ever after. Joe Hayes retells the classic story of Cinderella with a Mexican her flair. On the last page of the book Hayes tells us that Cinderella was very popular in the mountain communities of New Mexico. This version, he says, retains most of the traditional details. This includes the golden star on the forehead. Hayes says that the symbolic reward of the golden star on the forehead appears almost in every episode, but the star is more central in his tale. Also in most traditional versions, a fish takes the wool, the sheep is slaughtered and his intestines are stolen. Hayes says that these details where a bit too gruesome for a picture book. The blessed virgin (the fairy godmother) who usually guides the girl does not appear in Hayes?s story. He says that he based his story on a plot form that doesn?t require her intervention. This book combines the Mexican culture and a classic fairy tale. The wonderful illustrations add life to the story. Mother and daughter painted the story illustrations. Gloria Osuna Perez did the first three pages because she was sick with ovarian cancer. Her daughter, Lucia Angela Perez, did the last twelve illustrations in honor of her mother. The oil painted illustrations show a part of Mexican culture. Being panted by the Perezs they put their heritage and soul into the illustrations. Any child will enjoy these wonderful drawings. I enjoyed this rendition of Cinderella. Arcìa didn?t need a godmother-like character to help her. She did it with her own will and personality. The book deals more with the human spirit and the power it has. Arcìa is kind hearted and doesn?t think about herself. Even when Margarita doesn?t give her new shoes or nice gowns, Arcìa doesn?t complain or show any remorse. Her kind heart is what gets the golden star put upon her forehead. This book can be used to help young children learn. By using Spanish or any other language in reading a child can learn and interact more with the picture book . The book is written in both Spanish and English, which helps readers easily learn a new language. Foreign languages are being taught in elementary schools and they are required to get into most colleges. If a child is taught young, he will have a better grasp on the language when he is older. This picture book would be a good way for a child to be introduced to another culture and language. I enjoyed reading this book. Seeing Cinderella written from Mexican heritage is educational as well as enjoyable. The illustrations are as wonderful as the story.

This children's classic is beautifully written and illustratedin both English and Spanish, which makes it truly unique andextraordinary. Many books are translated into other languages from English but this book was written in both lanuages and reflects the culture of the southwestern United States and Mexico.

I am sharing this reading experience with my four year old granddaughter. I highly recommend you share it with a child that you love.
