I have read the book Santeria: A Practical Guide to Afro-Caribbean Magic and sadly to say that this book promotes the stereotypes about the religions associated with Santeria. It reveals the physical properties and most of them being negative showed a dark side that Santeria has to offer. For anybody interested on the subject, this is not the book to go with. I encourage readers interested in the subject of Santeria to continue their research on the subject and not to let "Santeria: A Practical Guide to Afro Caribbean Magic" be a conception of how the RELIGION really is. This is not to say that there are people who use Santeria to achieve selfish ends. But the realistic outlook on the religion is not contained in this book. This book contributes more to the demoralizing of a religion that is trying to regain its respect from so many years of misconception.

Excellent book on Shamanism

Review Date: 2007-09-04
I found this to be an excellent book on Shamanism as experienced, not a how to book. But even as a book of personal experiences there was a lot of down to earth explanations of just what Shamanism is.

I especially liked the information that we don't choose Shamanism as a path, the Mysteries/Spirits pick us. Like wise we don't choose a power animal, they choose us. I like this as there are too many books out there that lay guilt trips on us that if we aren't able to do this or that somehow we are slacking or are deficient. This is a refreshing change.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject.

This book is such a wonderful combination of a heartfelt story of the author's journies to Peru and the ancient incan rituals that can enrich and enhance our lives. As a story the book was captivating and as a "how to" the book was inspiring.

His story, not really about Inca

This is a story about a man and his spiritual journeys in Peru. He spends alot of time talking about synchronicities about adopting his Peruvian children. It's a heart-warming read about someone going through spiritual growth. However, if you are looking for information about Andean spiritual teachings then your best bets are Chamalú: The Shamanic Way of the Heart: Traditional Teachings from the Andes and Return of the Children of Light.

Do you want a recipe for how to become an instant writer of 'spiritual' lore? Go To Peru, adopt a couple of Peruvian orphans, superficially read a couple of tomes on Andean geography and 'shamanism', perhaps even take a tour or two.. and: lo! 'The Secrets of the Ancient Incas" is born. I give Langevin three stars for pure chutzpah. Needless to say, this book is not about 'ancient Incas', it is all about Langevin (what a great guy he is...etc..heh heh) and perhaps you will find buried in between the all too mundane travelogue a few New Age practices that fit quite well within the Magical Blend but have little to do with the Inka.

At least he is sincere and does not make things up, which is an achievement in itself if one considers the feeding frenzy that plagues popular Andean shamanism these days. If you want more substance, I'd go for Williams, Villoldo, or even Wilcox

I loved this book!

Secrets of the Ancient Incas spoke to something deep inside of me. It gave me hope for earth and humanities future tied to the Inca's past. I am using the guided rituals in my day to day life and I love them.I feel as if I have been given an intrudution to a new set of comic guides. I have never been to Peru yet I now know, after reading this book, I have to go at some time. This book is one of those few books, I will save and reread again and again. I highly recommend it to anyone with an open mind.

When I found Avatar Adi Da and His wisdom, my spiritual search was brought to an end, surprisingly, delightfully, and profoundly.

The Ruchira Avatara Gita tells the secret of the relationship to the Divine Heart-Master in which the Master reveals His Eternal, All-Pervading Divine Nature of Conscious Light, and grants the devotee the Gift of Freedom, the Gift of awakening in Him and as Him. The words on these pages literally shine with Light, and will awaken your heart.

In all my life, I have never encountered a book like this. Avatar Adi Da Samraj's esoteric writings about the Guru-devotee relationship will touch and move you at heart. They will make you aware of the possibility that you can actually awaken to and be the very Divine Self of Infinite, Immortal Light. And that awakening, as the book explains, is not achieved by effort, but is Grace-Given, in the context of the love relationship with the Divine Guru. Just imagine the God-intoxicated devotees of Jesus, the Buddha, and Krishna, and the intimate, loving relationship they shared with one other. Just so, you can have this same relationship with the Divine Heart-Master, Bhagavan Adi Da Samraj, who has descended from the God-Realm out of overwhelming love and the desire to liberate everyone from suffering and awaken all to Himself. I urge you to read this book.

This book touches on so many levels, especially with the dark aspect of spirituality that so many of us run try to away from only to find out that it is really God's face with a mask on. The mask being our own lack of awareness and fear. Highly recommended to any student of the spiritual arts.

A SPECTULAR ADVENTURE!

Review Date: 2001-06-26
This spectular adventure unfolds in seventeenth century Tibet. It surpasses " Celestine Prophecy" in its mysterious, passionate luminous characters and plot. Evoking nuances of "Indiana Jones searching for the Holy Grail," author Phil Morimitsu's character, "Lobnear Wa" weaves his way through the ancient mysterious lush Hindu Kush mountains, its cities and its inhabitants. His quest is filled with conflict, treachery, and love. This is an action packed thrilling story which commands attention, and leaves the reader wanting more. The book begs for a sequel, and certainly a film version. Russell Crowe, or Harrison Ford -after "Gladiator" and "Indiana Jones", are you looking for yet another a unique part? After reading this book, I have been inspired to pursue my dreams and past life memories more fully. Perhaps "A "Seeker" exists in all of us. Read the book, and "venture in!"

Phil's 1992 book "The Seeker" is still a landmark in Eckankar's teachings simply because he takes one back to those days in Tibet when being walled up in a cave as a monk was a useful method of gaining enlightenment and solitude. Lobsang Rampa's books covered this terrain of Tibetean harshness for those seekers of truth as well as the recent movie and book, "Seven Years In Tibet," starring Brad Pitt. For me, since I was involved in the early days of helping Eckankar getting the right to build the Temple of Eck in Chanhassen, Minnesota along with Phil and many others, his portrayal of Temple politics which he gleans from his "inner" travels to Katsupari Monastery is not to be missed by any serious student of outer or inner body phenomenon who desires ultimately the light and sound of God! huuuu leland roth Quetzalcoatly2k@webtv.net

Dr. Heinerman allowed his LDS (Mormon) faith to influence his perceptions of Native American Spirituality.

On pages 118 and 119 Dr. Heinerman implies that indians worshiped nature.

Native people did NOT worship nature! They worshiped the Creator (The Great Spirit), and treated nature with reverence and respect.

How can one worship the Creator then disrespect creation? I make these statements from my perceptions of following the red road.

Dr. Heinerman; jumps around between many different American Indian Nations (Aztec, Blackfoot, Cherokee, Crow, Hopi, Mayan, Sioux, and others) without covering any of them in enough depth to assist one in their studies.

Review Date: 1999-05-12
Heinerman discloses secrets that most students of American Indians only imagined existed. His discoveries are like treasures of truths revealed with professionalism and reverance. His respect for Native Americans is reflected throughout his well supported book. His connections with the ancients of ancients is right on track with modern day discoveries. He provides the best explantions for the origins of a very special race of people, which he connects with God's CHOOSEN of the Middle East. Heinerman's religious beliefs are well grounded in the importance of progressing Spiritually...rather than through traditional church worship. He presents his Mormon experiences on a personal basis rather than trying to please Church leaders, which is extremely refreshing. The pioneers of the Mormon church are surely smiling on this man's return to the importance of realizing to whom the Book of Mormon was written ...THE NATIVE AMERICANS. I personally feel truly enlighten by the Spiritual Wisdom shared by John Heinerman, Ph.D.
