I like this book because it'll really give you an idea how spanish language is constructed plus the exercises after each topic which appears to be too elementary but very helpful, indeed. Good price for a sensible book. If you're a beginner in the heathcare world, this is it! Eureka!

I have not recieved this product, charged to my credit card about 6 weeks ago, estimated by shipper to arrive Sept 4, it's now Oct 3 and no book. E-mailed Amazon but no answer to the e-mail, just this undoubtedly machine generated message inviting comments. OK there it is. Are we going to deep-six our society in automation?

This book is intended to be a practical learning tool to get the medical provider to not only be able to state the usual medical phrases, but to have knowledge of the spanish language to actually communicate. It's a tall order, and for a one volume set, it performs well. Starts with the alphabet and "mucho gusto", runs through common verbs, conjugation and vocabulary used in a medical setting. Extremely practical spanish, and definitely not a tourism/conversational course with a few medical terms thrown in.
There are CDs in a different set, as well as audio CDs on the Rios website. I HIGHLY recommend you get some CDs, as the book makes a lot more sense. It's difficult to learn to actually talk a lagnuage from a book.
Small issues - the book covers conjugation, but it's one of the trickier elements to the spanish language, and native speakers aren't going to understand you (and you them) unless you have lots of experience with verbs, so you are probably going to need to get additional resources in that department.
Also, there are some medical dialogues in the book, but I wish there were more.
Great book, good luck practicing!

I have studied and read this book as well as taken the course taught by the author. I have found this method of learning medical Spanish to be highly effective. I immediately was able to connect and communicate more effectively with my patients that speak Spanish only. I recommend this book to any medical professional that wishes to communicate more clearly with their Spanish speaking patients. All it takes is a little effort!!!

I bought this for my oldest a year or two ago for Christmas and it was and still is a huge hit.
In fact this is one of those books he insists on taking with him on longer drives or trips.
He loves animals, dinos, etc. So this book was perfect for him, gave him pictures, basic information and other little bits and pieces about each animal. He loves to look up animals he sees and finds outside and learn more about them.
If your child loves to learn more than just a name and recognize a picture I think this will be a great first start.

A friend's 2 1/2 year old son loves animals. Since he prefers real animals to cartoon ones, I decided to go with this book. I gave it to him almost a month ago and his parents say it's still his favorite thing in the world. He takes it everywhere an asks everyone he knows to tell him about the animals. I wouldn't hesitate getting this for a child of any age.

This is the fourth book in David Macaulay's series of how things in history were built. In both text and detailed drawings, the author describes the planning and construction of a typical castle and adjoining town in thirteenth-century Wales. In 1283, Kevin le Strange was named Lord of Aberwyvern in Wales by King Edward I of England. While Lord Kevin's castle is imaginary, its concept, structural process, and physical appearance are all based on several castles that were built to aid in the English conquest of Wales between 1277 and 1305. The town of Aberwyvern is also imaginary but is drawn from descriptions of towns founded in conjunction with castles in Wales during that time.
Anyone who enjoys learning about the Middle Ages will like this book. The description is sometimes technical but is written so that young children can become familiar with the terms, and the marvellous illustrations are very helpful in visualizing what is being done. From the choice of location, through the building of the walls and the inner ward, to the completion of the castle and the establishment of the surrounding town, the reader will follow, step by step, Master Engineer James of Babbington and all his workers in their labors. The story ends with a visit from King Edward, followed by an attack from the Welsh under Prince Daffyd of Gwynedd whose defeat leads to the decision by the Welsh to end their resistence, although the complete "conquest" did not occur until 200 years after Edward's death. This book won a 1978 Caldecott Honor award.

My 13 year old and I read this book together. He absolutely loved reading about the history and building of the castle. He has another larger DK book on Castles and as we read told me about his previous knowledge on the topic we were reading about and expanded our discussion. The images (drawings) being b/w are a perfect match so that details of the castle stand out. After reading this story, we watched the accompanying PBS special Castle by the same author. The movie is s a perfect tag-a-long going into further details and highlighting real castles and showing the details that were discussed in the book. To follow up on the book/movie, my son is now building his own brick castle. We ordered a kit and it includes everything to make little bricks from molds and then directions on exactly how to build the castle. I highly recommend purchasing the book, movie and castle building kit together if you or your child is interested in castles and/or medieval studies. All three provide great discussion, for both visual and auditory learners as well as a hands-on experience.

We bought this book for our four year old who always wants to know how things work. He, and his Daddy are both fascinated by this book. It is a work of art, and a historic fictional work in one. The pictures are all in black and white, but the line drawings are incredibly detailed. This book will be a favorite in our library for years, and I can see him reading it to his kids one day.

I remember reading this book back when I was in Junior High and High School. I'm 30 now (ugh!) I have always been fascinated with history (especially why folks did what they did when they did it) and while characters are fictitious, the design and building practices as well as the situations involved in the story are truly as it happened. The pictures are highly detailed such that you almost feel like you leap into the pages of the story. I primarily purchased this for a bit of nostalgia but would highly recommend this product to anyone who might be interested.

Global Conspiracy as the New Religion
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-31
Review Date: 2008-07-31
David Icke is a world conspiracy theorist in the extreme, who sees conspiracies to control and enslave humanity everywhere. His pursuit of conspiracy theories comes across as obsessive, bordering on religious fanaticism. The god of his new religion is "Infinite Awareness, Love, and Possibility", and the devil(s) are represented by reptilian aliens from another dimension whose mind-controlled followers (human-reptilian hybrids) are practicing "satanists". These alien hybrids are identified with the most powerful and wealthy people throughout history, and their agenda is to use genetics, technology, and mind-control to create a "one world order" ruled by the reptilians.
David Icke's book can be divided into 3 themes. The first theme represents the bulk of the book and describes a wide range of conspiracy theories where Icke attempts to "connect the dots" between real people, places and events throughout history up to the present. There are many interesting theories here that Icke provides both hard and circumstantial evidence for, involving governments, corporations, science, organized religion, technology, etc.
The second theme involves the theory that the entire history of humanity has been influenced and controlled by reptilian aliens, whose goal is to dominate humanity for their own evil purposes. Icke does not provide any concrete proof for this theory, or why it is taking the reptilians so long to take over the world. Icke's theory on the origin of the reptilians seems to rely heavily on the ideas of Zecharia Sitchin.
The third theme of the book pertains to Icke's theory on how to end the global conspiracy created by the reptilians. This involves opening up and embracing the new age concepts of "Infinite Awareness, Love, and Possibility", which Icke never really explains how to do, and which sounds very similar to the shamanic wisdom teachings of Carlos Castaneda.
Icke's writing style is simple, straight forward, and non-academic. If you can ignore the reptilian theories, and the new age psychology, and just focus on the real-world conspiracy theories, then this book is worth reading, although most of these theories can be found in many other conspiracy books available today.
Finally, there is one chapter dealing with the sexually deviant behavior of recent world leaders (alien hybrids) that some may find shocking, if not, disgusting. Despite these clearly defamatory claims, Icke seems to get away with it, making one wonder why people of such world prominence and reputation would allow these accusations to be made, if they were not true. If history has proven anything, it is that evil is man-made.

I just wanted to recommend this book to everyone who has a serious interest in how to view the changes that are predicted to come on this planet from now until 2013.The spiritual aspect is the only resonable viewpoint to have... It is obvious to most people that we are in need of a drastic shift in consciousness. Unfortunately it seems as though there is no other way to get through to people than to shake it up a little. You have to realize that we have passed a point of no return with our mass hypnosis. This book gives you a blend of spiritual insight and plain information to prepare your own ideas.

It is neither metaphysical nor mythological. It is real.
Evidently minor exagerations appear here and there, but generally, the core of the book is substantiated.
Provocative, nevetheless inquisitive and gigantic in the amount of references, information quality, and those possibilities that drive your mind out of this world. Read it.

First, David Icke is brilliant! This book completely changed my life. I've spent years researching many of the topics David Icke covers in this book, but I had made no connection between them. I simply became more and more disgusted by the human race, thinking the majority must be inherently evil. That is an emotionally draining and psychologically destructive place to be. After reading The David Icke Guide to the Global Conspiracy it all made sense, FINALLY! I now have a much clearer understanding of what is going on in this world and my faith in humanity has been restored. We have the ability to create an incredibly loving world, if we choose. This book will help help show you how we've reached this point and what we need to do to change it.

This guy once claimed to be the son of God and predicted the end of the world within a year. When that failed to occur (years ago) and he suffered international ridicule, he then had an epiphany that a world wide conspiracy must be responsible for his overnight decline and all the rest of the world's problems. And you "believers" want to suggest that if we dare to question his sanity it must be "we" that are the truly brainwashed? With critical thinking skills like that running around it won't take a conspiracy of illuminati to destroy society.
Oops. Apparently I've failed to buy in to the only man on earth with the true vision. I must be a controlled sheep, or worse yet, one of the conspirators. You must immediately disregard anything I've said, otherwise DAVID might ridicule you. Such a hustle. Hat's off to ya, Davey.

This story explains the importance of charity programs like Heffer INternational. Our library did a summer reading program with Heffer called "Read to Feed". Animals were donated through Heffer according to books read by children. I found it difficult to explain what receiving a goat would mean to a family to my 5 year old. This book makes poverty real without being too severe/frightening for young children. It leaves a sense of hope.

This is a wonderful little book that highlights the Heifer International Program. I purchased twelve copies to give to participants in a children's sermon at my church. The sermon dealt with sharing our many blessings with those in the world who are less fortunate.
My one disappointment with this book was the comments by Hillary Clinton on the cover. I work hard at keeping my politics separate from my church, and I was shocked and appalled that a story about this wonderful program was contaminated in this manner. I never would have purchased the book for this purpose had I known.

I think it was cute for parents of the child, but not really worth purchasing, I expectsd a graft project book. Waste of money.
Excellent concept, well executed

An amusing introduction to the artist Matisse that I highly recommend. Written as though it's an 8-yr-old's school report, it is accessible and very informative. It includes reproductions of Matisse art and biographical information. Loved it. And it was useful as a teaching tool.

Cute, but not as substantial as I would have liked.

Secret pouches, treasure gems, letters, pirate flags...lots of fun!
We bought this for our young children (5-year old and 4-year old) as they were excited by the Pirates of the Caribbean movie trilogy.
We bought this book along with "Pirates" by John Matthews last year. We take the books off the shelf every couple months and read through them for bedtime. The books will stay in our collection for years to come.
This book helps introduce a large amount of new vocabulary but, more importantly, covers so much ground that it acts as a fantastic springboard to further study history or science.

it's a great book, filled with all kinds of pirate facts, legends, stories, and "artifacts" . My godson got a real kick out of it. He loves pirates and the book is written as if first-hand by a privateer (a pirate commissioned by the government to hunt down enemy state vessels, and rogue pirate ships).
This book will definitely be one he enjoys for many years. Some of the subject matter is just within his attention level and understanding, but the more intricate details and artifacts will prove fun discoveries as he gets older and has the patience to read over each part carefully. i'm a big fan of the whole series.

My 7-year-old son could not wait to sit down and start looking through this. The day it arrived we had some younger children visiting, and he "wowed" them all by showing them different parts of the book. He is very excited about it, and I am a happy mother for finding another great book for a young reader.

This is by far the best short treatment I've read on moon phases for kids. The illustrations and explanations are clear and understandable, and my five -year-old is able to "wrap his brain around" the idea of the moon rotating around the earth rotating around the sun...not the most intuitive concept around. In most other similar books I've looked at, they seem to assume you can already picture it in your head...this one adds the viewers' perspective in addition to the plantet's. Very helpful.

I am a second grade teacher and this book enriched our textbook wonderfully. The illustrations and text were easy for the children to understand (and even taught me a few things as well!) We read several of Franklyn M. Branley's books during our year, but this one seems to be a class favorite.

This is an awesome book that can be used in the classroom when studying space, planets, and the solar system. As a huge object in the sky, the moon sparks a lot of curiosity and this book helps children understand more about it.

It really helps the young inquiring mind learn about the moon. My almost 5 year old always wants this read. Also it tells you how to do a demonstration to show younger kids why the moon looks the way it does, why it changes. I'm glad we got this book!
