I liked this second book in the Dark Hunter series but I feel sheryln Kenyon should have stuck to the original plot she came up with for this book. If no one knows what I am talking about then you should read the preview for Night Embrace that was in Night Pleasures when it first came out because the beginning was entirely different than the one she came out with. First there were no gods working with Styxx and he wanted Sunshine because she had the ability of foresight and regression. Ms. Kenyon gave the impression that the daemons were targeting humans with specific paranormal powers but she changed it when Night Embrace came out. I'm not saying the book was bad, it was good I just think she should have stuck with what she originally planned for this story. I like her other dark hunter novels but if you would read the stories carefully from the first to the last you will see that Ms. Kenyon begins to subtly change her characters. It is subtle but it is there. She changes their personalities and their histories except in Night Play which is my favorite. I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but I sure did.

I don't know what everone's complaining about! I really liked this book! But just to let you know, it really is a young adults book. I, like all the other Twilight fans, was depressed that the series was over, but now I think I've found something else to get into (a.k.a this book). I really recomend this book.

Set for a younger audience (about college age kids) though some adults seem to enjoy it too.
Follows a young college girl, who is being bullied in her dorm, as she sets out to find a new place to call home, while uncovering what's really going on in town, and who or what is behind the curtain (vampires).
I thought it was a great read..kept my attention..

Have never read Rachel Caine before. Great writing style. A real page turner. Must start with the first book though or you will get lost. The second book starts exactly where the last book left you and there is little or no explanation to set it up. If you are a Twilight fan, it's a sure bet this is a series for you.

Better than TWILIGHT IMO....

This is a better YA vampire novel than Twilight in my opinion. The characters I actually came to really care about. There is Claire, the sixteen year old genius, in college too early and getting bullied every step of the way. Unfortunately these bullies intend to see Claire dead. This forces Claire out of the dorms and into a shared rental house. The Glass house is owned by Michael Glass a 19 year old with some crazy secrets of his own. The other roommates are Eve, a Gothic girl with a heart and Shane, a young man who is grieving for his sister and mother. With them, Claire finds safety but she also becomes more aware that the entire college town of Morganville is home for vampires. Anyone without the Vampire's trademark "Protection" is fair 'prey'. Claire's already managed to tick off the vampire community multiple times. Logical Claire is now faced with unlogical things and people all around her. Her choices can lead herself and friends to safety or have dire consequences. The action is packed, and the characters are great. I'm a 30-something and I have to say that I didn't have the problems other reviewers had with not really feeling the target age for readers of this series. I had no problem feeling these characters just the way I can feel the Harry Potter character's and as I already said I much preferred this group to Meyer's Twilight characters. My four star review is a actually more like 4 1/2 (Yes, I did enjoy the book THAT much) and I have to take 1/2 star off solely because this ended on a seriously disappointing cliffhanger. I've said in other reviews that I enjoy and anticipate stories that have dangling threads that make me eager for the next volume of the series but ending in the middle of action just isn't cool.

My daughter gets so excited about this book - she pays rapt attention, smiles, and wants us to read it again. This book was given to us as a present when she was born - and we have been reading it, among others, since then. For the past few months, this has been a clear favorite book. She loves that at points in the book we give her a big smooch, she is attracted to the colors and illustrations and big letters that indicate you are supposed to be singing those words loudly. We sing the words to this book to her - we don't straight read them - but we do this with other books, too, and she doesn't get nearly as excited. Simple book...my husband and I have others we like more...but this one wins hands down for the baby, and that's what really matters!

Lacking in plot progression...

This fictional work lacks character development, and just about anything else fine literature is supposed to display. But it has furry animals hugging, kissing, singing, dancing, and doing all other manner of cute things, and my 15 month old loves it. Boynton must me laughing all the way to bank...seriously, she must be worth a mint.

A Lovely Book

This is easily a favorite in our house. we first started reading this to our daughter when she was 9 months old. Since then, she has grown to love it more everyday. She's now 18 months old, and never tires of it. She generally likes all the Boynton books, but this one, she loves.

Here's the gist of the story: a mommy dog is baking cookies with her puppy, and tells him/her a story about how much she loves him. The illustrations are classic Boynton: cute and fun. The rhymes are great. This one isn't as silly as some of her other books, but the sweetness of it makes up for it.

I highly suggest getting the CD that contains the song of "Snuggle Puppy." (I think it's on Philadelphia Chickens...) Once you've learned how the tune goes, you'll love the book even more. And what's even better, is that once you learn the song, you can sing it anywhere. This does wonders for my daughter when she is being uncooperative or grumpy. Whenever I sing her the song, she always smiles, and usually becomes more agreeable.

Will keep this forever. Told friends about it. Devin maybe a bad man but hes so good at being bad The author did a very great job on the story. The other remaining lovers were so great all three were hot I loved the part where Megan held a gun on Devin and told Caleb to get undress and told Devin to watch. This author closed all the story with no what ifs Its great I just wish it was longer and its long already. I would liked to have read about where Caleb and Megan And Devin and the girls all moved to Boston and I wanted to read about the wedding. I didn't want it to end.

This probably is one of the HOTTEST books I've read in a while. It was sort of like when I first discovered Lora Leigh. A definite eye-opener. The author writes very steamy scenes and has actual plot. This book is expensive and suprisingly thick but I am so glad I finally broke down and bought it instead of getting the ebook version, beacuse if I got the ebook version first I would have immediately bought the print version and I spend far too much money on books already. Well, I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you enjoy Erotic Westerns. This book is already on my keeper shelf. The hero is very alpha, if you purchase this book I know you won't regret it! If the author reads this, please write faster!!

HEART FATE is one of those stories that you want to go a bit faster, but wouldn't have missed at all. I really think the author never thought she would have to write this book, but more of the series were ordered because readers like you and me, can't get enough of Celta. She made it abit hard on herself by letting one of our favorite characters get married even thou he had a heartmate. I think she has handled it in a very positive way and therefore made the story pass alittle slower than we would like. Not only must she free Tinne, but she must free his heartmate also. One of the major laws of Celta is that he must not tell her he is her heartmate. Also, coming off a divorce he never wanted or expected has not allowed an honorable man to plan ahead. Each character has many and varied personel issues to face before they will be ready to embark on a new romantic path.

Tinne Holly has been a stedfast husband to Genista, even thorough the loss of a child. She has not been able to emerge from the pain of the loss or the blame she has for his parents. They had not honored a "vow of honor" and bad times had come upon the Holly household. Tinne is stunned when she asks for a divorce. Something unheard of in the higher houses of Celta. Tinne had forsaken the bond of his heartmate because he knew she was married. As far as he knows she is still married at this time.

Lahsin was forced to marry GreatLord Yew, when she was only 14. She has endured three years of abuse and horror, but now as she approaches her 2nd Passage to free her flair, she has the oppertunity to void her marriage. Because she was underage and is still only approaching maturity she can disavow him before three people and she will be free. She will become an adult when her flair manifests after her passage. Taking a chance for freedom she fights her way out of Yew Residence.

Tinne immediately sets out to find her and help her in any way, but he is not ready to embrace the "heartbond". He is still feeling dead inside and after failing Genista has no hope that he might be able to open his heart again. He is not allowed to tell her that he is her heartmate and he really has no desire to do so right away. He does find her and become her friend.

Lahsin has no one but she meets a mongrel dog in the hidden "Balmheal" estate. The site of the first healing grove on Celta. The grove only allows hurting, needy people into the grove. It is hidden and unseen by most of Celta. She and the dog find the Residence and interact with the lonely, crotchetty house. Lord Yew is desperately looking for her and offering a great reward.

The story is slow in places but the beauty and flair of Celta are very evident. This is a place that is very familiar to fans and we enjoy every visit. I enjoyed the book and recommend it to Robin Owens fans.

I agree with Leigh about this book, and that's the rating I was giving this book as I was reading it.

The wonderful sexual tension between the heartmates and interesting heroines with careers and vocations was missing here. The past stories in this line seemed pretty equal between the hero and the heroine, but not this one.

Authors that write several books in a series don't always hit it right each time, even bestselling authors.

Still, if you are a fan of this series you will still want to read it just to return to this unique world. (Don't you wish we had flair?) These stories are by no means finished, as the author has sold three more. Just please give us more fam time (#1 is still my favorite because of Zanith).

I would like other Robin Owen readers of previous books to comment their opinions.

In Druida City Lahsin Yew and Tinne Holly belong together, but both know that will not happen. When she was fourteen years old, she was forced to marry an abusive older GrandLord T'Yew; Tinne knowing he cannot wed his heartmate marries Genista.

However, to his shock and that of the nobility as there is no precedent, Genista is going to divorce Tinne. Three years into her marriage from hell, Lashin is entering her second Flair passage that will proclaim her as an adult; that is if she lives. She plans to divorce her odious mate, but first hides from him knowing he will kill her before she completes the passage. Tinne risks what is left of his reputation by vowing to keep his heartmate safe; though he fears once she survives passage she will be upset to learn he is her heartmate.

Although somewhat similar in tone to the previous Heart tale, the tangled relationships of the heartmates to others make for a much deeper compassionate and fresh entry. Readers will feel for the star crossed heartmates but fate in terms of her dictatorial father and her abusive husband make their mating impossible. Although T-Yew has no seemingly redeeming qualities, Robin D. Owens provides a suburb romantic fantasy filled with heart.

Return to Celta - Fate offers heart mates a second chance

Review Date: 2008-09-04
I just love the world of Celta, the magical Flair, the Wiccan-ish culture and the promise of a bond with the perfect mate, a Heartmate.

Heart Fate has some very emotional moments, for Lashin, whose married life was a nightmare, and for Tinne Holly (brother to Holm from Heart Duel (Celta's HeartMates, Book 3)) who honorably accepted that he'd lost the chance to pursue his Heartmate and found another woman to marry. But both Tinne and Lashin are now free from those marriages - Lashin repudiates her marriage at the same time as Tinne's wife divorces him. I was probably struck most by the powerful portrayal of Tinne's suffering magnified by his wife's rejection and the emotionally grueling divorce testing which forced him to relive loss their love and dredged up his anguish at the death of his child-to-be and his inability to reach his wife past their shared grief. Lashin too is emotionally damaged as she flees her horrific marriage and struggles to overcome the memories of victimization at the hands of her abusive, rapacious husband and his evil spawn. Her emotional ordeal is less concentrated but inspires sympathy and anger at the hopeless helplessness she had to endure.

After the last book I was worried that the series was going to succumb to the "formula trap" that plagues many long running series, but Heart Fate while sharing the world, and featuring some old favorite characters in cameo roles, brings together the HeartMates Tinne and Lashin in a much different way than in the previous books. Instead of an emphasis on an instant physical connection, there was a tentative reaching out as the damaged pair meet and share the sanctuary of First Grove which is granted to only the wounded and shattered of body, heart or spirit. They slowly begin to form a relationship, first with just the barest hint of trust as Tinne approaches the skittish Lashin and shows her not all men are evil. Next they grow into friendship and a caring that sparks an attraction that smolders until Lashin is willing to explore a healthy passion with Tinne and then finally both accept the risk to their newly mended souls to trust the bond that they share in order to accept the reward of love that is the gift among Heartmates.

So even though Heart Fate was less romance-y than the previous books, I enjoyed the story, the relationships with friends and family, and watching both Tinne and Lashin grow into stronger more emotionally healthy HeartMates. Also fun was the mutual taming between Lashin and her dangerous looking fam-dog-to-be and Tinne's more typical relationship with his fam-cat. And, characters in their own right, the Balm-Heal residence fit in with the damaged soul theme and the young Turquoise House, which was well on the way to becoming a self-aware residence, was entertaining and provided some lighter moments amid all of the serious goings on. So merry meet, merry part, and merry meet again when Owen's continues with the next of three books in the series.

Disappointed. . .

Tinne story line grabbed my attention with the first mention that he had married someone other then his heart mate. I had hope that we would get his story, and was excited when I heard about Heart Fate.

Maybe in my mind I built up too much anticipation or this series has just run it course.

The story opens with Tinne's heart mate(Lahsin) running away from her husband. She is about to go through her second passage, marking her as an adult, and she has the right to repudiate her husband. Then we find out that Tinne's wife wants a divorce. They suffered a lost that severely damaged their marriage, and Genista doesn't want to live apart, but wants all ties broken.

The rest of the story is about both Tinne & Lahsin recovering from bad marriages. Neither wants a relationship right now, but Tinne feels an obligation to protect his heart mate.

The story was very readable, and kept me turning the pages. However, it wasn't really a romantic story. There is a lot of angst about their previous hurts, and broken relationships and not enough about the passion between the two couples. Neither seem to feel the need or desire for each other until the very end. Quite different from T'ash story and his need for his heart mate.

OK, so this is not as good a read as the original "Confessions..." novel, but that's fine, nothing is as good as the original these days, right? And Becky Bloomwood is still a lot of fun to read about and her hi-jinks are still a hoot, right?

This is true, but whereas I was absolutely tickled reading the first novel, I found myself getting just a little bored with this story ... but just a little!

This time out, we find Becky, our girl-about-town, enjoying life as a featured financial guru on a top morning news show in Britain. She's gotten her act together, so her bills are paid (basically) and she's living up to all the financial advice she's given out on the show (kind of). She finds out that her boyfriend Luke Brandon is heading to NYC to open up a new location for his PR company and he asks Becky to come along. Once she's there, she's completely taken with NY's fashion scene - 5th Avenue is a dream come true for her! Before long, all the lessons that she learned about managing her money have been thrown out of the window. Just as she's really getting the hang of shopping "sample sales" and finding out all the really great new merchandise in the city, she finds herself, once again, in financial trouble and this time, she just might lose her livelihood!!

We get reacquainted with some favorite characters fromn the original "Confessions..." - Becky's roommate Suze is still around and has a new love interest and we get to hear loads about Becky's parents and their neighbors, once again. We don't really get to see Luke from a personal point of view, but we do see him more clearly through Becky's eyes as she describes the struggles that he goes through in getting the new location off the ground. We are also introduced to Elinore, Luke's real mother and see them bridge the gap that's made all the more huge since she didn't raise him, as she moved to the States when he was just a child. We are also treated to some new characters that help the story along, but even they aren't enough to make this book seem less shallow.

In the first book, we were mesmerized and a little shocked while watching Becky shop up a storm and a whole lot of debt. This time around, it just doesn't have the same thrilling effect. In fact, Becky begins to look a little pretentious and flighty, but veteran author Sophie Kinsella stirs things up a little and presents new angles and as they come in to play, happily, we do get swept up again.

While not as good as the original, this book was funny and it was nice to hear about Becky again. I, for one, am determined to ride this horse "all the way" and so I will read the other installments in the series, because I am a Sophie Kinsella fan and those things that I did not love about this book, haven't changed that. This is a cute book and worth picking up, I'll give this one "thumb up"!

Among the troubled youths there, she makes some instant enemies, but also, some very close friends, some of whom will prove to be vitally important in the days to come. Despite the purported high success rate of Lyle House, not every patient makes it out alive. Moreover, Chloe is not the only teen there who is not really troubled, just has powers. Two boys, Simon and Derek, introduce her to the idea of Supernaturals, beings like her who have something extra, whether it is spellcraft, necromancy, or other powers. Because of this, Lyle House is a very dangerous place for them, for something has been going on there for decades, something that threatens to destroy any Supernatural who walks through its doors. Chloe's admission there might not be a coincidence after all.

***** If you thought Kelley Armstrong to be an awesome writer going on her Women of the Otherworld series, then double your estimation by at least two when you read this. I still love her adult writing, but this really blows you away. Chloe's story is a compelling read that will keep you riveted right from the start, and grow more addictive as you turn the pages. I can hardly wait to see more. *****

I enjoyed this story. I'm a little dissapointed in the ending. I think that if it had been a little more wrapped up, I would have felt a whole lot better waiting on the next in the series.

Now, I feel like I'm left hanging until The Awakening comes out...which I will totally buy. I mean, I have to know what happens to the kids!

This is a very good start for Kelley Armstrong's YA series. I love her other books and this was just as good.

"A banner week for me. Getting short-listed for the director spot. Nate asking me about the dance. My first period. And now my first criminal act. After I fixed myself up, I dug into my backpack for my brush and emerged instead with the tube of hair color. I lifted it. My reflection in the mirror grinned back."

Chloe Saunders is a very special girl. Not just because she has an in-depth and intense obsession with movies, filming, and directing. Not just because of her unusual home life. She is special, because on top of all this, Chloe Saunders can see ghosts.

On the day of her first period, she goes to the bathroom and skips class. She dyes her hair, feeling particularly rebellious. Upon exiting, Chloe sees a strange man wearing an old custodian's uniform, who follows her around school. She thinks she is in trouble for skipping class...

When he starts to talk to her, she ignores him. He gets angry, and deliberately shows her his face... and she sees it is burned so badly she can barely distinguish his features. When he disappears into thin air, she starts making a scene and freaking out, and school officials round her up. When she accidentally punches a teacher, they sedate her and take her to the hospital.

From there she is sent to Lyle House, which is a place for troubled teenagers. There she meets a wide variety of people - a pyromaniac, a girl with a poltergeist, an unusually moody girl, a boy with extremely bad people-skills, and a boy who, strangely, she finds nothing unusual about. As her new friends' stories unfold, Chloe begins to question the
motivation behind Lyle House.

With everything from ghosts and magic to romance, humor, and growing up, THE SUMMONING will have you laughing, wondering, and in disbelief. This book has many plot twists that will keep the reader guessing throughout the course of the novel. Kelley Armstrong uses great characterization and dialogue, which makes THE SUMMONING an overall good read.

What would you do if you woke up one day and saw a ghost? If you're like 15-year-old Chloe Saunders, you end up in a group home for "troubled" kids. All Chloe wants to do is get back to her normal life, but she keeps seeing ghosts, and is starting to suspect that this isn't a normal group home - and that the doctors might have something sinister in mind for all the kids. This is Kelley Armstrong's first book for young adults, and it is fantastic. With strong, witty characters and danger at every turn, this is the start of a must-read series.

Once again, Sherilynn Kenyon grabs your interest from page 1 and holds on to it all the way to the final page and then you just want more! Each new Dark Hunter captures your heart and you know that you've made a friend for eternity. I'll re-read this many times.

Amusing Guilty Pleasure, a bit repetitive, previous one in the series held my attention (more well written than this one). Still, I would recommend this book.

At this point I am undecided about this whole series. Once I get over the poor writing style, the overused cliches and simpleton dialogue, I can usually get through her books. Usually her ideas are phenomenal, but the execution tends to be mediocre. It is so frustrating-think of what a good writer could do with these story lines! This book is no different. The idea is awesome-a Dark Hunter falls in love and impregnates a half Appollite who is destined to die. But once again, the execution of this idea sucks! And it doesn't even make sense half the time. For example, Wulf is squeamish about drinking Cassandra's blood and initially refuses. Even though it would save her life! And Cassandra accepts this. Come on, give me a break. Plus the "out" that Ash gives them in the end is way too convenient. I will try a couple more books in the series because I did like Night Pleasures and Dance with the Devil, but if they are anything like this I'm done.

Does not disappoint.

I enjoyed this book. Wulf is a DH and Cassandra is an Apollite. The Apollites were created by Apollo and also cursed by him to die on their 27th b-day. You get to learn more about the Apollites and why some choose to turn into Daimons (which are Apollites who refuse to die at 27). I think this book gives readers more understanding about the otherside and makes the whole series even better. The calvary is called out with Julian, Kryian, Talon and Zarek all making appearances in this book. We are introduced to a new character, Urian, who by the end of the book I was loving and so wishing he might get his own book. Otherwise, he will mostly likely be making more appearances in books proceeding this one.

I had read "Fantasy Lover" and "Night Pleasures" and loved both of them so much that I decided to try "Kiss of the Night" this time. While all of Kenyon's books are a bit absurd dealing with devastatingly handsome, yet troubled men who amazingly can't find anyone to love them except rather plain average women.... they were still hot smoldering romances with a fun plot thrown in for good measure. When I read the premise behind "kiss of the night" I thought that it would be a bit more of them same perhaps. Not so. Kenyon really got caught up in her world with this one and while I found some of the new information about Apollites and Daimons interesting, I also found the romance in the book suffering because of it. There were just too many lenghty gaps between Wulf and Cassandra's meetings that were filled with tedious information. I am also not into vampires per se. I enjoyed Buffy the Vampire Slayer but am not someone that finds bloodsucking erotic or sexy. I find it disgusting and was disappointed that there was so much of it in this book. While "Night Pleasures" had been about Daimons and Dark Hunters it never had descriptive scenes of bloodsucking. When the main characters finally resort to it in this book, I thought that I was going to be sick. Rather than a fun, humourous story filled with smartmouthed characters and moments that touch you. This book took itself way too seriously for my taste and quenched any heat or romance that I had received from previous books. This is not going to be a keeper for me.

Never expecting Dean Koontz to write a series, I was surprised, but pleased, to see Odd Thomas reappear in more books. While the book sticks to Koontz' mix of scary and bizarre, the characters are normal and enchanting. I never expected to think of a protagonist of his as sweet, but Odd is. He copes with all the strangeness in his life and whatever frightening situation he finds himself in with grace, humor (very important to me), and compassion.

Oddly lame

Not worth the paper its printed on. Quantum claptrap already used in dozens of books.
Really thin on character development and please, can someone smack Thomas out of his whining?
I can't believe I will probably read the next one!! but nothing about dogs! enough of the golden retrievers already... about a Pitt or a Chihuaha?

Great Character; Not Too Good a Plot

I think the quirky Odd Thomas to be the most like-able character in Dean Koontz novels. He's believable & I love the tongue in cheek humor. The story, I found, really bogs down in places. I also thought the plot to be a bit over the top. If not for the humor exuded by Thomas & his Russian ally I think the book would fail. The plot just doesn't cut it. Elvis's history is out of place with Thomas being such a young character as well. Thomas just can't carry the plot in this one

Brother Odd (Odd Thomas Novels)

I love Odd Thomas, Dean Koontz I can take or leave. In his old age, the author is crow baring his wacky right wing politics into the inner voice of a 21 year old. A 21 year old who could not possibly share his conservative views based on the characters life history (and death history). The low point (spoilers ahead) was after a harrowing encounter with an unknown creature that nearly ends in Odds demise, Koontz decides to regale us with a tale of the big bad ACLU and they're determination to undermine social works in our cities tough neighborhoods by insisting on enforcing that Pesky separation of Church and State clause. OoooKay? My favorite, however, was the moment that the "Good Guys" were preparing to battle the "Bad Guys" and it is speculated that Islamo-Facists or Athiest may be behind the plan to murder the nuns, priests and children. Wow, who knew, it was the atheists responsible for all those Holy war / crusades that ended in the deaths of millions over the millennia. Oh, wait.

Koontz is a beautiful writer, and I can forgive the occasional attemp at indoctrination now and again. But this was too much. Give me the story of Odd, leave the politics to the politicians.

I will not be reading any more Odd novels. I already miss him.

A great continuation of Odd's Story

As a long time Dean Koontz fan, I can honestly say that his character of Odd Thomas is probably his best creation. I loved the original novel and the quirky sense of humor it introduced. "Brother Odd" takes up right where "Forever Odd" left off. Odd has taken up residence in a monastary to try and sort things out after the events of the last couple novels. Of course, Odd won't get the rest he needs as something is drawing the evil seeking "bodachs" to the school for the special needs kids attached to the monastary. And when the number of the pain loving bodachs increase, it's up to Odd to figure out what disaster is threatening the children, monks & nuns in this wintry and isolated setting.
Koontz introduces some fantastic characters in this novel, Brother Knuckles, a former mob heavy turned Monk is a stand-out favorite of mine. I found quite a few elements of Koontz earlier novels in "Brother Odd", and eagerly went back to re-read such novels as "The Bad Place" & "Dragon Tears" because of similar plot elements. That is not to say "Odd Thomas" is just a rehashing of those things, just that certain elements from earlier novels influenced the action in "Brother Odd".
This is a very quick read as well, perfect for the beach, or for long plane ride. The story and characters are fun, and you will find yourself unable to put the novel down at the end of a chapter. Koontz has a way of filling the novel with multiple cliff-hanger like chapter endings, and you feel compelled to continue reading just to see the outcome. I'm looking forward to the next Odd Thomas book, and hope this series continues to thrive.
