This was the first book I have read from Roberts writing as J. D. Robb. I usually do not like books about the future, but I'll try anything that Nora writes. I ended up loving the stories about Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her husband Roarke. Now I'm hooked. Is there anything this woman can't write???

I give it one star simply because these are not new stories. To be more specific, Interlude In Death was included in an anthology titled Out Of This World and Midnight In Death was included in one titled Silent Night. Haunted I must have missed. Perhaps someone else knows. Just be careful, if you are a J. D. Robb fan you may already have read these.

I am addicted to the "In Death" series. I have read them all over and over again and each time I read them, it's like I'm reading them for the first time. Roarke and Eve are such a sexy, dynamic pair and to read about the murder's Eve is primary on and how Roarke's help is enlisted is the best of all. The books lets you indulge yourself in excellent deductive skills Eve uses to solve the murder cases and the brilliance of her department including Peabody, Baxter and Truehart as well as the EDD team headed by Feeney and Peabody's love, McNab. These books are great reads and sexy as HELL! Hurry up with Salvation in Death, I cannot wait.

I am not going to go into detail, I see this has been done quite well.
I really enjoyed this book. Lora weaves a tail of believable characters with her breed books and Jacob is no exception. He is alpha, forgoing any formalities to protect his mate-whether she likes it or not. But Faith is not going to take this lying down, literally or figuratively. Read this book and find out what happens when alpha and stubborness collide.
This book was a great addition to Lora's breed books, it is imaginative, original, compelling and enthralling. I believe the way Lora's mixes erotica and romance is very well done, not alot of authors can do this.
I recommend this book.

Kudos Lora, keep them coming.

Can't say I loved this book, not up to this author's usual standards. Tried too hard with the emotional storyline that just fell short. The hot language that I usally enjoy left me cold as it seem out of place. I just did not enjoy this, if fact, I put in down several times. That has never happened with a Lora Leigh breed series book.

Ok I guess

I had a little trouble getting into this one. I'm a fan of all Leigh's breed books but this one didnt seem to have to much of a plot. I felt like I was reading a porn which is ok to a point. Toward the end I found myself skipping over scenes because it was just to much.

More plot--a little less sex!

Can't actually believe I'm writing this--usually I'm saying where is the romance--how about another love scene--but it isn't so much that there was too much sex--as there was not enough plot...

The actually plot itself could have been written in 3 or less chapters--all the rest is Jacob and Faith screwing--and I mean screwing their brains out......

I do like the epilog at the end, it really got me ready for Aidan's Charity....

This is a refreshing detour from the other Breeds stories involving an Alpha Breed male and human female. Here we have two Breeds. The sex scenes are hot and erotic. The verbal sparing keeps you entertained because no Breed female should just lay down and fall for her mate after suffering years with the 'Mating Heat." This book was so hot I read it at least 3 times within 3 days before I went searching for my next Breed fix.

i actually did not like the main character Rachael in the first book (Dead Witch Walking)...in fact i remember thinking i had no interest in reading a sequel...the plot seemed silly and the character relationships were really weird...i accidentally bought the second book and only realized after a couple of chapters, this was the same ditzy heroine i had vowed never to read again...however, i was wrong, wrong...this time the story line is cleaner, clearer, darker and the magic sizzles...Rachael is still her impulsive, unpredictable self, but she becomes smarter, and it's fun to watch her change in her relationship to the demon and how this subplot evolves. I plan on doing Book 3.

A feast for the imagination... Love The Hollows!

After having read the first two books of this series I must say that I am hooked. This is fast becoming one of my favorite series and author to read. This the second book picked up roughly where the first left off, so you have a fluid connection from the first book to the next. Right from the beginning I was greedily reading as much as I could, loving everything about Rachel Morgan's world.

We see a couple of aspects explored that I had hoped would be from the first. Namely, Harrison goes in deeper with vampires as well as, and this I loved, demons. She explores both much more in depth, in addition to the typical pixie and witches and warlocks from the first book, which only rounded out and made the Hollows world that much more real. Additionally, an aspect (left unspoken here so as not to spoil anything for someone) that I had hoped and predicted from the first was explored in this installment as well. Very vague, but... I hate spoilers, so I will leave it at that.

Harrison does have a tendency to repeat herself (such as Rachel always saying about every character practically, "I forced myself not to flinch", "I stood my ground so as not to show my fear" and so on), but when the world she is creating is so rich and vibrant, who really cares? We see much more of Trent and Quen, more of Ivy and Piscary, and, just as important, more of Nick and his warlock skills. Oh, and the important character, Rachel explores her powers a lot more. We are also given little treats to feast our imagination, such as a troll swimming in the creek playing with ducks by pulling them underwater. Small, and unimportant in the grand scheme of things, but nonetheless an important part of how Harrison writes.

All around a right rousing read. I would whole heartedly recommend this book, series and author to anyone asking.

5 stars.

Book 2 in the Kim Harrison Hollows series continues with excellent character developement, plot and enough twists and turns to make you think you just stepped off a roller coaster.

Kim has created the type of story and characters that will have you thinking about them long after you've finished reading the book. I personally love the fact that she doesn't over play sex in her books. If I wanted to read about that, I'd pick up a paranormal romance

Kim gives you a story you can sink your teeth into. It's a good read that will have you coming back to the Hollows for another visit. Pick up her first book Dead Witch Walking and go from there. You won't be disappointed. Melissa NC

I admit that, while it has its flaws, I really enjoy this series. It's just so much fun. It's not high literature, or full of deep meanings, and there's nothing spectacular about the writing (if I hear one more description of Jenks's wings `blurring to nothing' I might scream!), but it's so enjoyable to let yourself get lost in this world among these characters that it's high on my list of favorite series so far. Rachel is not the perfect heroine, and yes, she's a bit on the edge, but she's basically a nice person... er, witch, and I find myself rooting for her. There's plenty of action and interesting side characters, good dialogue and a touch of mystery. With each mystery that is put to rest, another situation crops up.

In this book, we learn the mystery of Trent but gain even more complications of a demon...

I might get blasted for this, but in a lot of ways this series reminds me of the Harry Potter series, slightly grown up. It has the same fluid writing that drags you into the story, the same type of action-packed storyline with twists and turns, the same brand of main character (the main character bumbles through on luck and with the help of friends), and the same enjoyable supporting cast. The writing isn't high-brow and I'm sure there are plenty of plot holes, but it's just so... addicting. The story is plain fun to read, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one.

And a note on the audiobook: the reading isn't as smooth as it could be, with some odd pauses mid-sentence that were occasionally distracting, but the vocal work was good and it's still one I'd say is good to listen to.

Although I enjoyed the first "In Death" book, I have to admit it's getting old. I keep getting this distinct feeling of deja vu everytime I read another book in the series. It's time to stop using the same recycled plot and change it up a little. This series has a lot of potential, but it seems that the author is too comforatable in the plot outline she is using now. A realize a lot of people love this series, but I'm finding it difficult to understand why. It took me three months to finish this book! Why? The explanations are too vague, the dialogue is too boring, and the plot is too predictable.

A treat for series fans

For those readers hooked on Robb's characters, Rapture in Death is a great contribution to the series. It focuses heavily on the just-post-marriage relationship of Eve and Roarke, especially Eve's struggle to come to terms with the strength of her feelings for Roarke (and his for her). It also includes some interesting developments in Mavis's career as a performer.

The mystery is interesting, but not quite up to the level of some of the other books in the series. It's pretty easy to see which possible bad guy is the red herring and which isn't, and the red herring gets drawn out a bit long in my opinion.

Since we're on the fourth book of the series, it can start to feel a little bit unlikely that so many of Eve's cases have ended up tied to people she knows so well. On the other hand, Robb knows her audience: people follow these books for the larger-than-life character drama as well as the mystery, and the way to do that is to give Eve a personal stake in her cases. So while the practical part of me balks a little at the coincidences, I have to admit that it's a very effective way to draw her particular audience in.

All in all, while this isn't my favorite book of the series, I definitely enjoyed reading it. As always, there's some hot & heavy sex between our favorite billionaire and cop, so it's for adults only!

BORING-get a life Ms. Roberts, were I your agent not one of your books would have been published. Did you invent "reality TV"? 'If you have half a brain' (credit to Rupert Holmes)you too will fall asleep reading this author's books. So I can say something nice, her works are better than sleeping pills. I wish that I had originally known what her other name was years before I purchased the #1 of this series, I also wish I had known that each book is a carbin copy of the others, victim name changed, sometimes, to protect the innocent reader, and purely for greed.
I did give 1 star (there was no lower one to choose) as I respect all books and wish more people would read books.

This 'first novel' story of FORGIVENESS, LOVE, HAPPINESS, and HOPE, is inspiring (although a little sketchy) and a very good read for a young heart not interested in cheesy epic love stories.
Being `Light' (ghost) is the absolute worst thing to be, according to Helen. As Apposed to being `Quick' (human) or even just dead.
Helen is Light, stuck for one hundred and thirty years, as a wandering soul clinging to her each host (human) until they pass, as... well nothing, unable to remember anything about her past. Wondering why God left her behind.
This story is about how Helen meets one like herself and realizes that it wasn't God that needed to forgive her, but in fact herself that was needed to forgive her.

Just an ordinary day for a Light. Hovering above her beloved host, who hadn't the slightest inclination of her existence, in his English class, when one of the student looked her dead in the eye. She thought at first she had imagined it because no one could have possibly seen her... she was dead. But the next day he looked again, this time even smiled. His name was Billy Blake, at least that was what was believed. In fact, his name was James. A Light like Helen who had taken over the empty body of Billy.
And the story begins!!! The twisted fate of love, fear, and suspense takes these to characters for the ride of their afterlife time. Involving Helen taking on a body of her own, falling in love with James, realizing the consequences of interfering on the life of a Quick, and forgiving herself.

OMG!! I absolutely Love this book! Anita FINALLY makes love to richard.. and its so much more with him than it is with jean claude! The details in this book are amazing! I felt as if i were right there with anita.. or i was anita. I liked how she was possessed by raina and demanded richard to claim her once again as his mate.. and she had to ecscape all the other wolves so she wouldnt have been had (raped) by another. and in the end richard gets to her, and they do what ive been wanting them to do for a very long time! oh it was so awesome.. i re-read this book 5 times before i moved on to the next book!

Trying to post this one again...

Laurell K. Hamilton, Blue Moon (Jove, 1998)

I've been hearing about how the Anita Blake series is supposed to be falling off a cliff now for the last three books, and I have to say it hasn't happened yet, at least not as far as I'm concerned, and at least not in the way many have made it out. This one definitely does slip in two major ways, but not because of the major argument brought up by the critics. Guess I'll be waiting for that one in the next book.

The plot of this one starts off with Anita getting a late-night notice that Richard has gotten himself arrested in Tennessee-- for, of all things, attempted [censored for Amazon consumption]. As a few different characters say, "I'd believe murder before I'd believe [censored for Amazon consumption]." The local Master refuses Jean-Claude and his cohorts admittance to his territory, which Anita ignores, of course. As a result, the local Master, Colin, considers himself to be at war with Anita and company, and we get a look at a different set of werewolves than the ones we usually see. Which is probably the most interesting part of the novel; there's a lot of stuff with interesting sociological implications. It's like dumping a mound of topsoil onto already fertile ground to see if those tomatoes can get just a little bigger.

Unfortunately, the downsides are two. First, Anita herself, despite being the narrator of the novel, seems lost in the tide for most of it; events happen around her, and she doesn't seem to have much control over them, even when she's the center of the action. (Anita, and thus Hamilton, realizes this; she complains about it more than once.) The second complaint is far more severe, and I've heard it echoed a number of times in other criticisms; Anita, by the end of this book, is far, far removed from the sympathetic heroine with whom we all started the series. In fact, she's become downright unlikable. I hope this is a temporary aberration. I fear it might not be.

Still, as far as the writing, it's your typical Anita Blake novel, which means it's a good, solid quick read. So I'm still a fan, even if a number of others I know weren't by this point. *** ½

Not again ,please

Blue Moon is my 5th anita blake novel. i think she is a unique and wonderful character...but. This book starts with anita in a sexual quandry over her vampire and werewolf lovers and somehow manages to work a story about rescueing Richard in there somewhere.
I guess i am wanting less time describing how some mans hair looks and what color it is and how his silk pants hug his manhood and more time spent on the actual story. i love laurel hamilton and her writing and her characters . It seems to me that too much time is spent on the sex and sexual stuff than on what anita is up to.
I would like maybe 300 pages of story and 100 pages of description of wolfen emotions and satin shirts.

It seems repetitous on the story also. seems anita gathers a group of vamps and werepersons and has trouble relating to them, runs into bad guys, fights, then a big shoot out scene. sure it is different people but still same story line.

laurel hamilton sure does not need me to tell her how to write but she creates such unique and real characters that i would like more about what they do rather than feel.
I will continue to read anita stories but i have the feeling she is headed for disaster and maybe the best thing would be to "kill every one" and start over with just anita.

I'm sad because this series was great in its first two books. Now the series is nothing better than badly written porn. The characters are uninteresting. Those that are featured are either one-dimentional or completely unappealing. The reason for the decline is the fact that the author apparently projects too much of her personal life onto Anita Blake, thus the dropping of Jean Claude for Richard after the author's divorce.

If you're into rotting-vampires raping shapeshifters, this book is for you. And you should be locked up.

This series has devolved into a pornographic soap opera. 1 star.

Well I still like the story and the plotlines. The scenes are well written, full of passion and yeah a lot of imagination. The ennemies are also very thourough and well presented but...

Well the characters are starting to bore me... Anita is becoming this Alucard from the anime series hELLSING. (for those who don't know, he's invincible AT ALL TIMES)

She's losing her persona. She just always seems to be stronger than the enemy...I know she should evolve but she does it too fast and too good.

She has this honnesty streak which I like, this sense of morality which is twisted but it's just well she's becoming unnaturally strong and a bit predictable...(maybe more than a bit) Well i still have a few more to go before making this my final conclusion.

Last but not least there is the overwhelming sex... the moralizing and then the sex again... she seems to grow in force but to schrink in persona

PS the bad guys are also the kind of black and white bad guy... no in between.

And her french is poorly researched and not good. bonheur means happiness and is not the same as good luck which is Bonne chance en français. Et je peux vous dire qu'il y a plein d'erreurs comme ça et ça m'énerve

The Macgregor family story is always fun to read. I love to see what Daniel is plotting for his various family members. Robert didn't expect when Darcy Wallace won the jackpot at his casino , she also would win his heart. Cybil thought she knew how to avoid her grandfather's scheming to get her married. Alas,Macgregor won again when he put Preston McQuinn across the hall. I look forward to the next Macgregor story.

"The Raven Prince" was just as good as all the excellent reviews paint it to be...I was so enthralled that I read the first half one evening and finished it the next morning! I am so glad I didn't take the negative reviews to heart.....true, in the beginning of the book the earl is painted as an unattractive man but as the story unfolds he becomes more and more attractive to both Anna and the reader. He was tall, dark and muscular.... everything you could hope for in a hot tempered, brooding hero. The way he yearned for both Anna's body and her love was quite endearing. The sex scenes were explicit but tasteful, and brought meaning to the story instead of just being filler. The passion between Edward and Anna was palpable and made this novel a joy to read. The happy ending was the best part, and I was thoroughly satisfied at how this love story ends.

Anna is a widow living with her mother-in-law in a small town called Little Battleford. Anna must find a position since money has become scarce. Anna finds employment as secretary to Edward the Earl of Swartingham, a most unusual position for a female.

It is nice to have a heroine who is mature and a hero who is not perfect. Anna is practical and stands up for herself and the Earl is not only scarred from small pox but is also bad tempered.

I enjoyed the attraction between the two main characters. The interaction between them was witty and engaging. The sexual tension was ever present and Ms Hoyt handled the sex scenes extremely well. They were erotic and tasteful.

As a bonus, the beginning of each chapter included the story of the raven prince. This tale was well done.

Why did I give it four stars instead of five? It was the last chapter. I'm not going to include spoilers, but I will say that the ending was typical of many romance novels.

This was the first novel that I have read by this author and it will not be the last. Bravo Ms Hoyt!

Anna Wren is nearly destitute, and the only solution she can think of is to find a job. Not an easy proposition in Regency England.

She lucks out when Edward de Raaf, the Earl of Swartingham, urgently needs a new secretary, his temper having rid him of his previous ones. The earl's steward is desperate, and hires Anna despite his misgivings.

It's a sweet story--the tortured hero (he's scarred from smallpox, his entire family including wife and child have died) and the valiant heroine first fighting their attraction, then liking each other, then falling in love, culminating in a disguised Anna meeting Edward in a brothel where he'd gone to... er... work off his attraction to her.

I don't have any real complaints, other than a vague feeling that the tone of the writing seemed rather more modern than I'm used to with a historical romance--there weren't any anachronisms or anything I can put my finger on, so maybe it's just my imagination or a taste issue. Mostly, the four stars is because it's a pleasant story that I enjoyed and am glad I read, but nothing extraordinary.

I love the fact that the herione in the story is an "older" widow and not another fresh faced innocent girl that is the usual. The hero is also not your average nobleman; he has had his share of tragedy leaving him with image issues - and a farmer to boot! The love story moves along well and the supporting casts have interesting side-stories and add punch to the main plot. Everything is well thought out, characters are nicely fleshed-out complete with hobbies and best friends. This was my pick for best book from this series.

A wonderful surprise! BAD back cover description.

I am so glad that I finally read this book. It's been on my TBR shelf for a while because of it's lousy back cover. Whoever wrote the book synopsis in the backcover, did it a great disjustice!!! The book's description says that Anne is working as Edward's secretary, but when he goes to London to satisfy his "manly" needs, Anne "sees red" and decides to satisfy her own needs with the earl as her lover without his knowing. That made me feel that this book was just an erotica, that Anne cold heartedly and enraged (isn't that what "sees red" means after all?) decides that she has needs too and to use him as her lover. No mention of feelings either his or hers are mentioned. So I guessed this was a classical erotica, lust turns to love plot, with nothing more than hot sex scenes.
How wrong was I! And I am glad that I took the chance to read it after all, thanks to all the wonderful reviews here in Amazon. Reading the book makes obvious that Anne has developed deep feelings for the earl after working with him daily and so has he. So Anne, does not see "red" but the black of desperation when she imagines him sleeping with another woman and that drives her to take extreme measures. The earl, also has feelings for Anne, but he is the last of his line and must marry a woman that will provide him with an heir. Unfortunately Anne, though married for four years, didn't get with child which means she can't be the one. The desperation between both of them is palpable and realistic, as is the development of their feelings which takes place gradually (and refreshingly) before the physical attraction does. The sex scenes are very very explicit so some people can be offended, but they are essential to the plot and don't just exist as stand alone scenes.

If you are not of delicate sensibilities and can stand or even enjoy scenes of hot sex, this book is a must read, not as an erotica but as one of the best heart warming, deep, emotional romances published lately.

I happened upon this book by chance and as I read it in the store, I began to cry... it really hit a note with me. Simple and beautiful. I bought it and gave it to my 1 year old daughter on her birthday. She doesn't understand it now, of course, but my inscription in the book will be with her as she grows up and I think it'll be a wonderful keepsake and memory for her - that I read this book to her. Of course, I hope one day to get through it without crying...

Can't help but cry.

I bought this book for my children and I now I am buying a copy for my mother. It brings tears to my eyes each time I read it and my boys just love it. It's a necessary book for any mother or for anyone who has a mother.

Will bring you to tears!

I checked this book out of the library on a whim one day and as I was reading it to my daughter, I couldn't even read a couple of the pages because I'm such a sentimental thing and started to bawl. I instantly went to Amazon to buy a copy for my daughter and two for baby gifts. A tad schlocky at times, but a wonderful gift for a new mom, who is probably so hormonal that she, too, will be moved to tears. Lovely pictures and a lovely book!

I bought this book for my daughter when she recently had her first child, my first grandchild. I cried when I first read it - and I'm not ususally a tearful, sentimental person. It expresses my feelings as I see life moving on into a new generation of my family and the poignancy of new life contrasted to the eventual end of life for each of us.

This is my third Eve Dallas "In Death" read, and also the third in the series.

So far this is the best one yet. Each book they get better.

You can tell J.D Robb, aka Nora Roberts is really getting familiar with the characters, and the great writing proves it.

It is really fun to read the books in this series. Its like a television show, you can drop in and visit your friends. Luckily for us the readers, Nora Roberts keeps cranking them out.

As long as she writes them, I will read them.

Happy Reading!

Marriage is in the air

Eve and her rich fiance Roarke are about to get married, but that doesn't mean all is puppies and rainbows. Mavis, Eve's best friend, talks Eve into using Mavis's new fashion maven boyfriend as her wedding dress designer, but dear Leonardo turns out to be the start of Eve's latest case. Or rather, his ex-lover (a famous model) is, when she turns up dead in Leonardo's flat after an argument, and Mavis is found unconscious near the body, her fingerprints on the murder weapon.

Once again Eve finds herself trying to walk a fine line between her duty as a cop and her loyalty to the people she cares about. She sets off into a world of models and actors, business and crime, drugs and beauty. At stake is nothing less than immortality---or rather, Immortality, a new drug that promises youth, beauty, energy, power.

While Eve and Roarke's relationship still sizzles, there's a bit more attention paid this time to the difficulties of trying to deal with something as big as marriage when two such headstrong loners are involved. Eve's childhood memories also rear up to smack her full-out this time, and the reader isn't spared any details. The things that happened to her as a child were horrific, and not everyone will feel comfortable reading about them, even though they're handled in a non-prurient and non-sensationalistic manner.

This mystery kept me guessing much longer than the previous one, which I very much enjoyed. There was plenty of misdirection and guilt to go around, confounding the guessing game beautifully. I love Roberts's heady mix of futurism, mystery, romance, mild erotica, and sharp personalities.

excellent!

Immortal in Death (In Death, Book 3) In this exciting third book on tape. Susan Ericksen brings the characters to life once again. Eve's about to get married but a murder gets in the way, will Eve and Rourke get hitched or not? We find out more about Dallas' past and we find out that there is rivalry in the different divisions. It was well worth the price of the audiobook.

Great

I love this series... you must read it to understand. It's all about a homicide detective named Lt. Eve Dallas and how she goes about solving a case which always seems imposibble to solve at first.
