From Jerusalem to Rome to Ephesus, travel with Hadassah, a young slave girl, as she clings to her faith in the face of the decadence of Rome in "A Voice on the Wind". As usual, Francine Rivers crafts a beautiful work of fiction full of poignant and thoughtful moments that touch the heart. There is also plenty of action as the author brilliantly draws the reader into the breathtaking locations of her tale. She brings Biblical characters to life beside her fictional creations in this wonderful novel. I highly recommend this novel and am proud to have it in my collection.

This book also contains a very helpful glossary of terms and an invaluable discussion guide for use with any reading group.

Beautiful. This has to be the best Christian book that I have ever read. The characters are so real as are -most- of the situations. Francine Rivers has a very gifted style of writing-I couldn't put this book down once I started it and rushed to the bookstore to get the sequel after I finished.

I think this book shows that Christians should be strong in their faith. Strong enough to give everything up and die for it. Hadassah is a wonderful example of true, strong Christianity and a fantastic heroine.

I'll just admit up front, this series wasn't among my favorites, but this might well have been the best of the lot. FINALLY we get some real insite into what makes the August brothers so confusing to us. I still don't fully understand the compulsion to share, but am finally able to accept it.
Sam, the hero, was by far the most compelling of the August brothers. His journey to find some semblance of peace was heartbreaking at times, annoying at others. But it makes him the best of the lot to me.
Heather, the heroine, has been the only female in the whole series that makes a serious attempt to get to the bottom of the whole story. And for that reason alone, she's got my vote for favorite heroine.
The culmination of the saga of the August brothers was wrapped up well for me, with all three couples as happy as can be expected, given their circumstances.

3rd in a Really Hot Series

This is the last one in the August Men series. Liked it the least, it was just ok. Yes the story is wrapped up, the bad guys are caught. Heather of course doesn't want to have sex with his brothers, but oh twist my arm OK. I was hoping for a last chapter oh, ok we are healed and we can all be with our own mates without our brothers. No that finally happens in an anthology Ms. Leigh does later. Still just a litte weird with all the sharing. Its like you can start off that way, but when your going for your happy ever after at the end, its time that the the main characters decide oh, I love you and only want to be with you. I don't know thats just me. Still love ya Ms. Leigh, your the best.

The beginning of the book and the subject of betrayal, could have been very depressing but I really wanted to know what the title had reference to. Whether this man could have been forgiven and the turnaround. I didn't see how so it kept me involved. I loved all the good references to family, their times together and their loyalty to their daughter and sister. Very surprising ending. I think it was very well written.

Absolutely spellbinding!

This is one of the most intriguing books I have read in recent years. I was attracted to this series because I know of Gary Smalley's work and found it interesting that he would combine real-life counseling and fictional characters. Frankly, I think it was a genius idea because we are having more people read and discover helps for their own lives because they are willing to read fiction when they wouldn't read other books. I love the way that the main characters seek God's leadership before making any decisions and follow his will. God's way is the best way is driven home by having those who willfully disobey what they know God's will to be and suffer the consequences. I simply could not wait even one night to get the following book when I was through with one. Therefore, I went and bought all 13 available books in the series so I would never have to wait.

I am very disappointed with the book. I agree with the original critic - it reads more like a self-help book than a literary novel. The adultery, alcohol described in the book seem very unrealistic and organized to create certain points that the author wants to get across to the reader. I would find it hard to believe if this author has any real understanding of the circumstances that they try to describe in the book.

Read this book in 3 days, only because I had to go to work otherwise I would have stayed up all night. It's not one of those you can't put it down, edge of your seat type of novels, however, I did find it stimulated my own sense of right and wrong, forgiveness level and the ability to see God in everything. The way it is written puts you in the place of the characters and how God works in their lives even if you can't always hear Him. And even when you do, do you take what is said and act upon it? I can't wait to read the rest of the series... On to book Two!

Gotta Love Them Cowboys!

Review Date: 2008-08-03
A very nice introduction to the writing of Lorelei James. After all, how can a book about not one, not two, but three hunky cowboys be bad? The characters were a bit undeveloped for my tastes, as we never really got the full background stories of any of them (I really like to know all the details). But it was enough to make a good story, where you can honestly say you want the main characters to have their happily ever after. I was happy with the ending, and it was enough to put Ms. James' Rough Riders series on my "to buy" list.

First off, I loved this book. I couldn't put it down and it completely grabbed me. I have to compliment the author on this one because it seems like she did a decent amount of research before writing this. Coming from rodeo background I CANT STAND western books that are ridiculously inaccurate portrayals of cowboys, cowgirls, rodeo, or the western way of life. The majority of the real western references were correct and kept me in the story instead of annoying me because of the authors lack of dedication to story line. I couldn't get myself to give her 5 stars for one good reason...the darn cover! If you are going to bother doing your research and being accurate on your small (but important!) rodeo/western details, DON'T FORGET YOUR COVER! I almost didn't buy this book because of the ridiculous cover! No real cowboy on earth wears that outfit to a rodeo. Just a hint, the vest are supposed to be for protections not thin cotton fashion vests! Also, she made the main female character look as unclassy as the rest of the nasty buckle bunnies she puts her so highly above....it just doesn't fit. All in all, don't let the inaccurate cover keep you from buying this book. Her cowboy/rodeo/western references are good and this is a hot book! Just my thoughts!

A HOT summer read!

I purchased this book largely on the overall strength of the current reviews. I wasn't disappointed! I thought Channing perhaps fell into Colby and Co.'s bed a tad too easily (e.g. the initial "test")but didn't feel it strained anything but the very outside edge of believability. Please note there is some m/m action (in addition to m/f/m)but although it's not generally my thing, I thought it was well written and hot. All-in-all, a pleasing and erotic summer-read!

You'll want to go out and adopt a kitten after reading For the Love of Autumn. This charming storybook brings to life the joy and fun of having a kitty for a pet.

The story is about Danielle, a young teacher with a kitten named Autumn. The gray kitty shares Danielle's life, pouncing at her ankles as she walks, and curling up with her in the evening with a bowl of popcorn. When the young woman gets a new job in a seaside village, Autumn "helps" her pack and move into her new cottage. Autumn disappears one stormy night and Danielle's students help her find the kitten, and her true love, as well.

The heart of this book, as in other Patricia Polacco books for kids, is in the illustrations. The delicate full-color watercolors bring the story to life, and capture tiny moments like Autumn leaping toward a dragonfly on a flower. The faces of Danielle and her students show such expression. Even without the depth in the story, the book is worth it just for the artwork.

Other good choices from Polacco: The Lemonade Club, Ginger and Petunia, I Can Hear the Sun (Picture Puffins), When Lightning Comes in a Jar, Mommies Say Shh! and The Bee Tree.

This was the final book in the Born In Trilogy and it lived up to the excellence of the first two books. As with the first two books in this series, this one kept me as involved with the characters. You feel like you know them and became involved with their lives; laughing and crying with them as the story unfolds.
I enjoyed the audio version of all three books and will share them with friends. As with the second book, I loved revisiting the first two sisters and taking a look at what was happening with their lives. A great series, do not miss them!

The Story is another good one by Nora Roberts. I bought this book in Audio Form and I did enjoy it. I just wish the Narator, Fiacre Douglas, would have spoken a little slower and taken his time. I loved his Irish Accent, but I felt that he was "raceing" through the book.

3.5 stars. The plot was a little weak, but on balance, I enjoyed the story.

Shannon is a commercial artist in New York City. Her mother Amanda had a brief love affair with Tom, 28 years earlier. Tom lived in Ireland and was married at the time. He could not leave his wife and two daughters, Maggie and Brianna. Amanda returned to America, found out she was pregnant and met and married Colin. Shannon thought Colin was her father. Just before Amanda dies, she tells Shannon that Tom was her biological father. Brianna and Maggie also recently learned that Shannon existed when they found some old love letters. Brianna asks Shannon to come visit. Shannon does. While visiting Brianna and Maggie, Shannon meets Murphy, they fall in love.

The plot for Shannon and Murphy follows. Murphy owns the family farm in Ireland. There are some stones in a circle on his land that have a mystical quality. When Murphy was a boy, he had a dream of a knight and a woman meeting at the stones. The woman was Shannon. He continued to have dreams/visions of Shannon throughout his life. When Shannon arrives in Ireland, she begins having the same dreams. Murphy is the knight in the dream. Murphy knows immediately that she is the love of his life. He courts her and pursues her and wants to marry her. Most of the story is about her reluctance to give up her career in New York and be with him in Ireland.

The best part of this story was Murphy's love and total commitment to her. I kept wanting her to choose him. The main conflict in the story was her delay and hesitation. That was ok but not the best kind of plot for me. The group of characters were pleasant to read about.

Maggie's and Brianna's stories are told in books 1 and 2 in the series. I gave 5 stars to "Born in Fire" and 2 stars to "Born in Ice."

Sexual language: mild. Number of sex scenes: six. Setting: current day Columbus, Ohio, the village of Kilmihil, County Clare, west coast of Ireland, and Dublin. Copyright: 1996. Genre: contemporary romance.

For a listing of my reviews of other Nora Roberts and J.D. Robb books, see my 4 star review of "Angels Fall" posted on 6/30/08.

Shannon Bodine lived a charmed life until she found out that her life was based on a lie. Her mother had an affair with a married man, and the man she had always loved as a father, wasn't her natural parent. Since her mothers last wish was for her to seek out the family she never knew, Shannon heads to Ireland.

When she meets Brianna and Maggie's neighbor Murphy Muldoon, they find an unexpected connection and immediate attraction. He had been dreaming of Shannon for as long as he could remember, and knew they were destined to be. Shannon was a painter, and Murphy loved his little piece of country life. He didn't know how they could intertwine their lives, but knew she was a part of him.

I wasn't impressed with the flashbacks and past life twists. Overall the characters lacked the development I expect.

This (audio) book was pretty good- it's Cal and Penny's story. HOWEVER, I do think that some parts were unnecessary, and you could really tell that the writer was setting up a series. I think that if I had not heard the audio this book would have received a 3, but since I did hear the audio, and got to hear the characters through the reader, I am giving it a 4. This is the first book in the series, and I will probably listen to the rest of the series. Brothers Walker and Reid and sister Dani get their own stories. Those who love reunited stories or second chances, this one will work for you!

Okay I really wanted to like "Delicious" by Susan Mallery, but I could get pass what poor character Cal was! He was the most self-center character that I have seen in a very long. I have the other books in the "Buchanan" series, so I am hoping that it will get better.

I liked this book. It was a cute little read.
It had a little bit of magic, a little bit of small-town life, characters you felt at home with, and a sort of folksy feel.
However, the writing...the writing drove me batty. Mixed tenses! Subjunctive? What's subjunctive? Sloppy syntax. Very high-school. It is distracting to read a sentence, and then have to read it again because its grammar makes the meaning unclear.
This is partly the writer and partly the editor. Details count. And in this case they count against. Allen should keep writing; practice makes perfect.

I loved Sarah Addison Allen's first book and looked forward to this one, but was disappointed. It was not as polished and it was much more amateurish than "Garden Spells". The plot trudged along for the first half of the book and was predictable in the second half. The dialogue was silly ie: "I'll show you! I'll show you!" Nevertheless, her characterization is always good and still is.

Just a good, sweet book!

Jacob is a demons executor, the must dark and lonely. Gideon is a mystical, full of knowledge and wisdom, a tormented soul, but Elijah is not only the best warrior of his race, is also a blond demon with the best instinct for battle, the feared hunter if he want a prey, and he want the lycanthropes Queen although this breaks all the rules that always have obeyed
The third book of this saga is equally intense and passionate. We discover much more about this Nightwalker world, where the demons, lycanthropes and vampires mostly cross their ways, their lives and their loves in order to survive.

I really wanted to give this book a 4 star rating. I enjoy the author and definitely enjoy the world she has created. I think it's different from other worlds about vampires and shapeshifters. However, I could only manage a 3 star rating for this one.

I enjoyed her first two books of the series tremendously. Elijah however, starts off very slowly. There's very little dialogue in the first couple chapters and if you haven't read the first two books I'm not sure you could understand it. You wouldn't get the interplay and the attraction between the two lead characters. As a reader, you also wouldn't understand the other couples and their backstories. I would suggest you not start with this book. It's not a stand alone. I also found a lot of the story unplausible or didn't ring true based on what has happened before.

The book picks up its pace about mid-way through. The last 50 pages or so are very good and action packed. I don't agree with some other reviewers about ending the book before the get together takes place. I think this serves the purpose of making the series flow. I recommend this book to followers of the series in order to stay up on what is happening for future books. However, I am concerned that the series may start repeating itself and going downhill. I look forward to the next book to see if the author turns it around.

I just finished this book. Billed as summer reading, it's impressive and stands out. The main character, Claire, is not so likeable, although Hilderbrand tries hard to make her so. And I would have liked to see more resolution at the end, perhaps a more substantial ending. It felt too abrupt. Hilderbrand does a nice job of fleshing out her other characters, they are surprising vibrant even when they have minor roles in the story. I love her chapter titles, too - imaginative and meaningful. I'll be reading more of her work.

I love all her books!

This was such a good book! Claire is a retired glass-blowing mom of four living full time in Nantucket. She is asked by the richest man on Nantucket to co-chair the committee for Nantucket's Children charity, begin glass-blowing again to make the auction piece, and call in a favor from her ex-boyfriend who is a huge rock star for the entertainment. Claire feels the need to agree to it and puts her family life on hold for the next year.

In the very beginning of her co-chairing responsibilities, she falls for the executive director and things start to heat up quickly. The lying and sneaking and problems as co-chair are enough to keep anyone entertained!

So this is chick lit. I like it.

Claire Danner Crispin is a mom and wife who lives in a lovely house Nantucket. She seems to have everything but she's still so insecure. That's probably why she'll want to risk everything to have an affair with this annoying guy. I don't like him, he's rude. but it's a good story :))

Another interesting novel by Elin Hilderbrand

Having read Barefoot first, it was difficult to find another novel by this author that could be as good. A Summer Affair held my attention and I did enjoy it. The characters were interesting. I found this book represented some women in life dealing with similar problems, and wondering how they would handle it being in the same situation. I would recommend reading it, but the story line isn't quite as good as Barefoot

This story of two self-absorbed whiners left me cold. I really tried to read it all the way through, but just couldn't. As a friend of mine says--"life is too short to waste on a bad book". This book seemed like a perfect late summer read. However, I found that I really did not care about any of the characters--they were all flat and one-dimensional. I finally quit!!
