If you are a thinking person, this book is not for you. I could not finish the book, it just could not draw me in. It is comparable to a daytime soap opera, and I am not a fan of soap operas.

Undeveloped, unbelievable

I find it hard to believe that people will seek another four books in this series if they are as frivolous and trivial as this. There were inconsistancies in the plot i.e the party invitation that was supposed to be delivered late, and none of the characters had depth, I certainly had no empathy with any of them. I waited in vain for the plot to develop and improve. Fortunately I was listening to an audio version so because I walking for exercise the time wasnt totally lost.

This is the fifth installment and it is time for Isabelle's revenge. One thing I like about these books is that it isn't always just about revenge for the sister, restitution is made to other victims as well. In this case, a little girl and her parents were killed, leaving behind a little boy with an elderly grandmother to care for him. Though nothing will bring his family back, he and his grandmother's future will be secured thanks to the Sisterhood.

I love how the sisters continue to grow and bond with each other. As they take control of their pasts, they are able to take control of their present lives and their future. For a fast, entertaining read, I recommend the entire series.

The Cop & the Bachelor McKades

Review Date: 2008-03-20
The two remaining bachelor stories of the McKade family begin with the story of Sheriff Devin McKade. Devin has been sworn to protect and aid the citizens of Antietam, MD, however, when it comes to Cassie Connor Dolin, he has a definite soft spot in his heart. He has been in love with her for as long as he can remember; however, Cassie chose a rough path with former husband, Joe Dolin. Joe abused and beat her and terrorized their two children. With Joe behind bars for an indefinite period of time and Cassie divorced, Devin decides he has waited long enough for Cassie's heart. The only problem is that Cassie feels she has lost her chance at love and she has two children who desperately require her love and attention and are terrified of another man becoming part of their family.
The story of Shane McKade takes us to the baby of the family, however, he is just as gorgeous as his three older brothers, and has sworn himself to the life of a bachelor. There will never be just one woman for Shane until Dr. Rebecca Knight, scholar and scientist is drawn to the town by her instincts under the premise of visiting her old school friend, Regan. This is when trouble starts, not only with Shane's heart but also with the ghosts that live in his house; the house that belonged to his ancestors during the Civil War. It is certainly an interesting tale of folklore and romance and a very sweet climax to the story of the McKade Brothers.

the mckade books by nora roberts are absolutely brilliant reads, i have passed the book around friends and we have all been so enthralled that we could not put the book down. We all felt we were part of the story and felt everything was real, did not want the story to finish, so disappointed when we did finish the book, wanted to keep the story going, please ask the author to write more on these brothers.

I'm not very objective when it comes to romance novels I love. By far I do not have a favorite Mackade story; I love them all! I like the way Nora Roberts makes each character unique in their own way but they're all good people deep down. The Mackade brother stories are exceptional and heartwarming. The characters evolve and the stories always begin with a piece of their childhood and continue on with the present. Even though the women they're linked with come from completely different backgrounds they are all determined women. Cassie and Savannah have had a rough upbringing while Regan and Rebecca have had a silver spoon advantage.

This book was fabulous. The sexual tension is outrageous. Karen Marie Moning makes you want to dive into the book and onto the male lead, Cian. This book was a great purchase. Buy it, it's worth the read. Spell of the Highlander (The Highlander Series, Book 7)

This is the 7th novel Moning has written about highlanders and the 4th in a series about the McKeltar family. I love her women. They are all smart, inquisitive and funny. Her men are all built like Greek gods, but then this is a romance novel! I loved the whole series and read it in nothing flat. Can't wait for the next installment. I'm sure at some point her Highlander books will connect with her Fever series, which would prove very intersting.

Just as great as the first book....

This is the latest Karen Moning book that features the MacKeltars. All I can say is...READ THIS BOOK! It is a great mixture of magic, highlands, passion & humor. The characters are well developed and get you itching to read the rest of the MacKeltar books (#1 "Kiss of the Highlander" - (Drustans story),#2 "Dark Highlander" (drustans twin), #3 "Immortal Highlander" (Adam Black - side character interacting w/ MacKeltars), #4 "Spell of the Highlander" (part of MacKeltar clan), #5 "Highlander's Touch" (seperate story linked w/ Adam Black), #6 "Into the Dreaming" - a novella that features the fairy queen mentioned in the other books. NOTE: This is my suggestion for the order to read them in. There is not real official order in which to read them. All I know is once you finish this book, you will be itching to read the rest. ENJOY!!!

I loved other books by this author, especially the books about Grimm & Hawk, but this one, featuring Cian [KEY-on] & Jessi, was pretty boring. It had its moments but ultimately I had to force myself to finish it. And I found some of the dialogue and love scenes to be - not vulgar by any means, but coarse, I suppose. Sorry to say, I really was disappointed in this one.

This is the second installment to the 'The Braddocks Secret Son' series. It involves Shondra Braddock and her quest to find out if their father's accident was an accident or murder. In the first book, The siblings find out that their father made a secret business trip and it is connected to something or someone at Stewart Industries. Shonda gets a job there to try and find out what she can about the connection to their Dad. She ends up falling in love with the CEO Connor Stewart. He is fun and as reckless as she has been in her past and the closer they get the harder it is for her to confide in him about her true reason for being there. He finds out the truth before she can tell him from her over protective brothers and all hell breaks loose. You will have to read the story to find out the outcome and it will have you anxious to read the next installment to this series.

This is the second installment to "The Braddock's Secret Son" series. The saga continues with the quest for the truth behind the sudden and mysterious death of Harmon Braddock. In this installment we get to meet Harmon's hardworking, very serious daughter, Shondra. Shondra takes a job at Stewart Industries in an attempt uncover the mystery behind her fathers secret business trips and phone calls to SI. On a mission to find any/all the information she can, she's TOTALLY caught off guard by the INSTANT attraction to the very sexy, charming and quite daring Connor Stewart. Connor is totally captivated by Shondra and he pulls out all the romantic stops in attempt to capture her heart. This is the first novel I've read by Mrs. Robyn Amos and she does a great job with this continuity series. She keeps you entertained with a memorable cast of characters and a sweet, sensual, and VERY romantic storyline. The scenario with the blind date was HILARIOUS! And the on again/off again ex-girlfriend is a piece of work, and should have been on the receiving end of a good ol' fashion beat-down" for all her the CRAZY stunts she pulls throughout. Definitely looking forward to the continuation of this series.

Neil Gaiman is by far one the top fantasy writers of our time. Personally I like when he writes with that dark humor of his. (just like he did on -American Gods, Neverwhere & Anansi Boys). Stardust on the other hand it's the "nice" book of the pack.

Nevertheless, it's a beautiful piece of work. You will be transported to the town of Wall and beyond the market.. to an extremely well crafted land of magic, witches and kings. Stardust it's quite entertaining and will keep you turning page after page. Great book for both young and adults.

entertaining, but easily forgettable

i finished this book in only 3 hours, and will probably forget it just as quickly as i read it. it was entertaining enough, and was a breeze to read through. the imagery was very vivid and the author has a great talent for descriptive prose that brings much needed color and richness to the story, or what little there is of one.

unfortunately everything else in this book is bland and uninspired. what could have been a fantastically imaginative and interesting storyline turns out to feel like an outline of events, heavily padded with pretty imagery, and nothing more. there is no suspense, no mystery, and no real intrigue in this book. the characters are flat and do not engage in meaningful, believable interactions with each other. there is very little dialogue between even the main characters, and their personalities and motives are far too transparent, and embarrasingly simplistic. other more interesting characters appear out of nowhere and disappear just as quickly. in the end i didn't care what happened to any of them, which is probably a good thing, since the ending was extremely weak. i would call it an anti-climax if there had been any suspense at all and i actually cared about what was going to happen. there wasn't, and i didn't.

i would expect this from a young adult's novel, and think maybe it could succeed as one, minus a few more adult scenes in the book, but as an adult novel, it really didn't do it for me. i didn't expect deep, thought-provoking literature. it was okay as light, mindless entertainment, but i could very well have watched the movie again and found just as much entertainment, if not more, in half the time. the movie, which actually adds a lot more action, humor, and interest to the story, was so much better.

An odd little book

Much less dark than Gaiman's first full-novel, Neverwhere: A Novel, Stardust is essentially a satirical take on classic fairy tales.

Starting in the village of Wall, which is seperated from the world of Fairie by a simple row of stacked stone, the young hero crosses into the fantastic and forbidden realm in search of a fallen star to give to his love. Along the way he will learn the secret of his family history, encoutner creatures and people who seem to ahve stepped out of the imagination.

I didn't like this book as much as I liked Neverwhere, but it moves along quickly and is a lot of fun. Perhaps its greatest flaw is that it never builds a head of momentum like Neverwhere does, so the ending comes rather abruptly, which, in retrospect, might be the point. I highly recommend the Stardust: Being A Romance Within the Realms of Faerie, as images add a life to the prose that seems rather pedestrian compared to some of Gaiman's more epic works.

Loved this book. Very well written and not something you'll be disappointed with by the end. Read the book about 2 days after I saw the movie for the first time. Have to say though, I actually liked the movie a bit better. There were some things changed and added for the movie (like captain Shakespeare) that would have been nice if they had actually been in the book. But keep in mind that when I say I liked the movie better, it's only by a little bit. This book is still a great read especially if you're like me and you still love fairy tales.

Tristran Thorn would do absolutely anything to win pretty Victoria Forrester's heart. Even venture across The Wall into mysterious Faerie in search of a fallen star. But once he enters Faerie, mysterious things happen. Tristran knows the location of every place in the land. He meets a strange, small man who gives him a candle that allows him to travel great distances. And when he finally finds the fallen star, Tristran discovers that it is not a lump of rock like he thought, but a young woman, who has quite the mind of her own. But Tristran isn't the only one looking for the star. The witch queen and a group of three brothers all want something of the star. For these brothers, it's the power she possesses. For the witch, it's her heart.

Stardust was completely entrancing, and charming and a surprisingly quick read. The star's spunk and Tristran's humanity are both to be admired in this adventurous tale that will make you laugh outloud and break into tears. Stardust is not to be missed.

Zoe Chandler believes she has enough to write an exposé on art collectors. To complete the task, she secludes herself at an isolated lake house.

After watching the abuse by our CIA agents in the Balkans especially in Kosovo, former field civilian interpreter Nick Mirovic knows that even after all these years he still suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, albeit the nightmares are less frequent. He avoids the pharmaceutical solution as he felt that messed up his head. Instead he has isolated himself near a remote lake. However, though the hermit tries to distance himself from his beautiful new neighbor, he fails as he wants her. When danger comes stalking their lake as Zoe's art collector portrayal has placed her in peril, Nick's protective juices flow as much as one particular male bodily fluid since he met his new neighbor.

This fast-paced exciting romantic suspense is filled with sex, sex, and the lead couple on the lam; with more sex while running for their lives. Nick is the more fascinating character as his experience in the Balkans still eats at his soul in many ways such as trust issues with other people including the woman he is falling in love with and an obsession to help the underdog. The heat is on figuratively and literally as Susan Johnson provides her fans with a HOT PROPERTY.

This is Ms Sinclair's best book yet, but as someone said before don't read it if you have not read Gabriel's Ghost. If you are not a Romance reader don't let the overly Romance-ish cover keep you away from this book.
Shades of Dark is romantic, but it's also definitely the second book in a Science Fiction series. Things are evolving and in this book. Chaz and Sully's relationship, Sully's relationship with his crew and his mission, Sully's relationship with his mental powers, Chaz's relationship with her ex-husband and the political structure of the universe where the story takes place all change over the course of the action. Not all those changes are finished at the end, and that might be unsettling to readers looking for a quick Romance fix, but seen as part of a larger story arc this book works, and works well.

I really like that the lovers in this book are both experienced adults, not sweet young things. They have quirks and warts and baggage, and love each other anyway. Even today and on-gong love story about more than two dimensional adults is a rare thing. I also really like that you could take out all the sex in the book and it would still work as a ripping good SF adventure. All too often in Science Fiction Romance the Science Fiction part of the plot is an afterthought. Linnea Sinclair is leading the pack of new writers who are working to change that.

Don't miss this one!!!

Review Date: 2008-08-05
Linnea Sinclair's Shades of Dark, which is destined to be a sci-fi romance classic that I urge you to pick up as fast as you can. You will not be disappointed in the least!

Shades of Dark takes place three months after Gabriel's Ghost ends. Sully, Chaz and their crew are fugitives, trying to stop Sully's cousin and his partner in crime by taking over the galaxy. These villains are able to re-create mutant beasts called Jukors that were used by the Empire. Because these things were so dangerous and hard to control, the Empire stopped all creation of them. Sully and Chaz's self determined mission is to fine these illegal labs where the Jukors are being made and try and stop these horrendous clones before it is too late.

Things are a bit touch and go, especially because Sully is a rare human breed called a Kyi Ragkiril who has telepathic and telekinetic abilities. His kind are so feared that he would be killed right on the spot. Sully is slowly losing his identity as a human because he is not sure he can control his powers. His only hope is Chaz, who is his ky'sara. As his ky'sara, Chaz can feel all of Sully thoughts and emotions, and the same goes for Sully. They are soul mates in the literal sense and when Sully makes love to Chaz, she does literally see stars! Sully likes to show Chaz the stars a lot! Yup, much more intimate moments going on between Sully and Chaz here! :D

Even though Sully and Chaz are happy to be together, they are never safe, especially when her brother is arrested for treason. Now more than ever they must find these labs and through some rumors and inside information from associates, they may have the perfect man to aid them. His name is Regarth Serian Cordell Delkavra otherwise known as Captain "Del" Regarth who is also a Stolorth and a Kyi. He is willing to help for a price and seems to take an interest in Chaz.

As Del joins Sully and Chaz, Del helps train Sully to control his kyi abilities. But Chaz doesn't like the way Del works. Del is a sleazy yet seductive character who not only wants to have a special relationship with Sully but wants to be a part of what Chaz and Sully have together! Yup, an intergalactic Kyi ménage. Now before you all become shocked and think, why, is Linnea going to go where none of her stories have gone before, Del's "blackmail" shall we say, is very subtle. Chaz makes the assumption and Del doesn't deny or agree.

Chaz is in between a rock and hard place. Her brother may end up dead, Sully is loosing himself more and more as a Kyi and Del keeps giving her the dirty eye that makes her want to shower. And then her ex-husband Philip shows up and that is when the real fun begins!

Shades of Dark is a masterpiece of science fiction fantasy. This is everything I was looking for in a book from a stellar love story, some of the most excellent written characters that I have read in such a long time and some twists that made me shout out loud. I am not one to shout as I read, but Linnea's books tend to do that to me. For an author to bring such emotion from myself is truly a master. Shades of Dark is one of these books that is a work of art.

I can't say anymore than what the others who have reviewed this wonderful novel have said, except, please let there be a third book. Yes I know Admiral Philip Guthrie is getting his own book called Hope's Folly in Spring 09 (which I'm dying to read), but please let us have more of Captain Chasidah "Chaz" Bergren and Gabriel Ross Sullivan. What a fantastic relationship. I want to see more as it grows.

When we last left Chasidah Bergren, former pride of the Sixth Fleet, and Gabriel Sullivan, a rare human Kyi-Ragkiril, in GABRIEL'S GHOST they had just destroyed an illegal jukor lab on Marker and had barely escaped with their lives, thanks largely to Chaz's ex-husband, Admiral Philip Guthrie, and her estranged brother Thad. Both men now knew Sully's secret, a secret that could jeopardize both of their lives. They had also learned that the political corruption went all to the top of the Imperial government, with First Barrister Darius Tage who they had trusted unquestionably with the most sensitive information pulling the strings along with Sully's cousin, Hayden Burke, who had been endowed with the Sullivan fortune and intended to keep it. Power corrupts and it will affect the heroes as well as the villains in their next incredible adventure, SHADES OF DARK.

When we pick up their story, the Boru Karn is on a mission to destroy a second, space bound, jukor lab but they are not exactly sure where to locate it. Guardian Drogue, an Englarian Monk and Sully's former mentor, had arranged for them to meet with an informant known only as Dell on Narfial. When Chaz taps into a news beacon, her largest concern is that information regarding Sully's feared and abhorred talents had been broadcast across the galaxy. If that were the case, their connections would rapidly dry up and Sully would face unbearable rejection from every one whose respect he had earned or whose trust he had carefully cultivated, including his crew. The news is not good. Although there is no mention of Sully's genetic aberration, Chaz learns that her brother has been imprisoned, and knows that Tage and Burke will stop at nothing to get the information they want from him. Should Thad resist, a Stolorth Ragkiril would glean his knowledge the hard way. Either way Thad was dead man. Although Chaz is torn with the strong need to rescue her brother, her Fleet training kicks in, and she knows that the needs of the many supercedes the needs of the one. They must get to Del ASAP before the damning information is revealed.

Sully agrees, but more trouble soon follows. When they are intercepted by a Farosian Infiltrator, it becomes painfully obvious that a trusted member of his own crew had betrayed their trust. Painful as it may be, Sully knows he must break his hard and fast rule about probing his friends' minds and discovers the culprit.

Sully's fears regarding the confrontation are justifiable. Kyi-Ragkirils are highly motivated by strong emotions, both pleasure and pain. His relationship with Chaz, his bondmate, has strengthened his power radically and he doesn't know what's happening to him or how to control it. It frightens him. Predictably he loses control during the interrogation and Chaz is forced to take drastic action.

With the conspirator confined, the Karn proceeds to the rendezvous point. Another surprise awaits them in Del, one who will test Sully beyond anything he could ever have imagined, putting both his personal ethics and his relationship with Chaz into question. The Kyi is seductive and Sully's new mentor is not endowed with human morality. What price will these lovers pay for his assistance?

I have read books that I couldn't put down before, but nothing has compared to the experience of reading SHADES OF DARK. I found myself hurtling through space, experiencing every twist, every emotion, every betrayal and every victory. There were moments (many) in which Del made my flesh crawl, as his culture and will collided with Chaz and Sully's. Yet in the end he was honorable in his own way. Chaz's self control astounded me, while her compassion left me completely in awe. Sully, what can I say, this is a trial by fire for him and he emerges sadder but wiser. Granted he makes grave errors on the way to finding himself but there is nothing he will not do in order to redeem himself. The love he and Chaz share is inspirational.

All I can say is wow, this book should win every literary award on the planet, and then some. If you read one SF romance this year, make it SHADES OF DARK. And if you haven't yet read GABRIEL'S GHOST run, don't walk, to the nearest bookstore and read it first. BTW fans of this series - get excited! Ms. Sinclair is currently working on a story for Admiral Philip Guthrie, which she is calling HOPE'S FOLLY. I personally cannot wait. ~ Reviewed for PNR Reviews "Staff Top Pick"

Christine Feehan did her usual outstanding job. She manages to turn 'boy meets girl' into something magical every time. Although each is a stand alone - I am making a point of reading them in order [after I found the first one I picked up was #15] and I'm finding them more enjoyable that way. Like any good author we always get a 'tease' of upcoming characters within the current story.

I read this a few years back, and it was my first out of this series!! This is by far the hottest I have read by Christine Feehan!! If this helps this is the only one that I have kept as a keeper!! I have read most of the series except the most recent ones which have come out in the last couple of years!!

I finished this book and Im on amazon for more. Mrs Feehan's talent of writing makes me crave to read more. I have been a closet romance novel reader, thinking it was emotional trash. She gracefully entices the readers imagination with enough censorship to tease the reader and hunger for more. I actually found myself in her world, wanting more.

Of all the 'Dark' books I've read, this has to be my favourite. I will not review this novel, since it's been done many times.

I loved Darius, it simple as that! And to think I hesitated about getting this book. After the first few pages, I was caught in the story.
First you have to read 'Dark Challenge' to get to know and understand Darius and why he is the way he is.
Darius falls for the fiery Tempest, almost at first sight and is determined she would be his. Of course, it irritated me when he claimed her immediately without her knowledge, but then this is a 'Dark' book. I love his protectiveness and the lengths he goes to keep her safe. (Yes,yes,I know all the Dark ones are like that:) And his tender amusement at her absolute non-existant sense of direction. Loved those parts.

Okay, the plots are almost repetitive and the love scenes are done in a similar style, but then all her book in this series are. So you must bear this in mind when getting the 'Dark' books.
The only way I could get through reading CF 'dark series'(since I got all the books first) was to read them two at a time, so they don't feel so repetitive, and you can enjoy them.
A star less for all that nauseating endearments. Didn't like it a bit.

Okay Ladies! Heads up! If you think you know everything there is to know about your man, think again. This book really delivers on his goods. While written in a light hearted and funny way, the facts provided about your man's family treasure are extremely informative. Read this book and you'll find yourself constantly saying --"WOW...REALLY????". The book is also filled with some really fun tid bits that had me rolling on the floor. There is also so much wonderful information about how to help your honey get or stay healthy. Dr. Harry Fisch and Kara Baskin make a somewhat taboo subject easy to understand and comfortable to discuss. "Size Matters" is the WHOLE PACKAGE!
