"Scandal in Spring" is a sweet little novel about two very nice and likable people. The plot offers no unexpected twists and the novel is conventional and predictable, but the heroine and the hero are such likable and interesting people that it's not hard at all to keep interested in the story.

Daisy Bowman is the last of the "wallflowers" to match up with a man and get married. She's intelligent, kind, and whimsical, amusing and insightful, and despite her romantic, dreamy nature, is also very practical and level-headed. Her father has given up on Daisy finding a husband on her own, and has decided to peremptorily hand her off to his favorite employee, Matthew Swift. Daisy is aghast, and determines that under no circumstances will she marry Swift, who is cold, analytical, greedy, and far too much like her father for her to ever love.

How surprising for her, then, when she discovers that the odious Matthew Swift is neither cold nor greedy, and in fact is kind, generous, loving, and everything attractive in a man. Also, he is entirely devoted to her.

This is a nice romance. The supporting cast are also very likable and lovely, and the interactions between the wallflower women is lovely to read. These women truly care about each other. Daisy and Matthew are a wonderful couple, and Matthew's passion for Daisy is delicious. Daisy's growing passion for Matthew is also wonderful.

This is SUCH a nice romance that the fact that it's not very exciting or suspenseful is not much of a defect. No plot twists, no surprises, not much action except for the end, and really, no really compelling reason to keep turning the pages. Still, the book is well written, with beautiful descriptions of the English countryside in spring, and Daisy and Matthew are such nicely drawn characters. I especially love how dreamy and creative and sensible Daisy is. And Matthew is intriguing with a complicated, semi-tortured character -- semi-tortured in that he has a Dark Past that will forever keep him from winning Daisy's love. This Dark Past is not very well done, altogether, and could have been better handled in the book.

Overall, a nice book. Fun to read, especially if you want to put yourself in a good mood and read something light and sweet.

3.5 stars - Not her best but still fun

American Daisy Bowman has spent three seasons in London looking for a suitable husband. Now her father has issued an ultimatum that she has until the end of May or must marry his choice; Mathew Swift, her father's assistant.

Daisy remembers Mathew as awkward, tall, disproportionate and wiry with no grace or charm. The reality turns out to be considerably different.

Kleypas is one of my favorite romance authors. Daisy is a delightful character, fanciful and rather fey but with a solid core. She is surrounded by a wonderful family, even her strong-willed father.

The story is unrealistic and predictable, but it's a romance so it can get away with it. It is sexy and fun with just a touch of suspense. It was the perfect book for a dark, cold, rainy day.

Loved it!

I have enjoyed this series immensely! Finishing Scandal in Spring is kind of like saying goodbye to old friends. I am sorry to see it end. Each of these women are unique, and their stories are also this way. Out of all the ladies, Daisy was the least interesting to me....until now. Scandal in Spring is one of the best of the whole series..second only to Devil in Winter.

Boy do I ever like a self made man...and NO ONE can spin a self-made man story like Lisa Kleypas can. Matthew Swift is one of those men...and what a man he is. He's been in love with Daisy his whole life...another great storyline, and really wants to do right by her. He is close to the Bowman girl's father and is a brilliant businessman....he is the "total package".

I identify with Daisy. She is described as a "dreamer" and a "bookworm"..labels that I have had my whole life. She was really refreshing. When she got over her prejudices surrounding Matthew..she went "all in" and never looked back. I appreciated this trait in her. This is a passionate, all-consumming romance that will have you cheering by the end...and then reaching for a kleenex when you realize that all good things must come to an end.

A fitting ending to a good series!

The fourth and final installment to Lisa Klepas wildly popular Wallflower series, I thought nothing could top Evie's story (Devil in Winter). Okay, okay, I'm thinking DIW is STILL my favorite- but Scandal in Spring comes a very close second.

In SIS we get Daisy's story. Younger sister to Lillian Bowman (It Happened One Autumn), Daisy is the dreamy imaginative one of the self-proclaimed Wallflower girls. A typical head the clouds type a gal, you just know it's gonna take a special man to win her heart.

Matthew Swift is just such a man.

But Matthew, protégé to Lillian and Daisy's bulldozing father, up until this point, seems to be the last man Daisy could ever fall for. He's pragmatic with a head for numbers and most damning of all- seemingly well planted in her father's wealthy pockets.

But Mr. Swift is not all he seems to be and when he enters Daisy's world once again, he turns her ideas of who a perfect man might be right on it's ear.

I love Matthew. His mysterious past only adds to his appeal and when he helps Daisy rescue a goose and then promptly there after, ably soothes Annabelle and Simon's (Secrets of a Summer Night) teething baby, I fell for him hook line and sinker- just like Daisy.

Daisy is a charming heroine. She may seem a bit flighty to those who don't know her, but her humor, competitiveness, and love for novels proves otherwise. (She made me chuckle more than once in this novel!)

Like I said, Devil in Winter may be the one wallflower book that wins everyones' heart, but Scandal in Spring seals the deal for this series, make no mistake about it! (I particularly liked the tres romantique things Matthew says to Daisy by the end of the book! Classic, despite it's sentimentality. Yeah, I choked up.)

This is a simple enjoying read, as are most of Kleypas's novels for me, but certainly not one to be overlooked for it's seeming lack of depth!

Animal whisperer Kira Donovan works at a wildlife refuge taking care of all types of animals. But she has more in common with animals than just being able to communicate with them. Every year, for a certain amount of time, she goes into "heat," meaning she has to have sex every four hours, or she dies. She takes care of it by hiring farm hands to help her on the refuge, and to help her in bed.

When the two hands she'd hired this year disappear, she's surprised to find two more on her doorstep, Derek and Tom. She's immediately attracted to Tom, and fixates on him to help her with her heat. What she doesn't know is that Tom "Ender" Knight has been sent by ACRO, the Agency for Covert Rare Operatives, to recruit her into their organization. If he can't do that, he has orders to kill her.

Ender's been told about Kira's needs, and he's ready to do his job, until he meets her. And when he sees Derek, whom he knows is an operative for ITOR, ACRO's enemy, he knows he has to eliminate him. Then, despite his best efforts, when Kira wobbles on joining ACRO he knows he can't kill her. But she agrees to go with him to check things out. He just needs to get her there alive, and away from ITOR's operatives. And they need to survive her heat cycle while they're on the run from the bad guys.

If you haven't read any of Sydney Croft's books in the ACRO series, you're missing a thrill ride packed with emotion and hot passion. Reading Unleashing the Storm was like visiting old friends. The ACRO bunch is realistic and entertaining, and the fact that they're trying to save the world makes them that much more attractive to me.

Ender is the ultimate bad boy, carrying around the weight of his job and past deeds. I absolutely adored the way he and Kira blended together, and the way they worked through their problems. It's one of those books I just couldn't put down. I loved the first book, Riding the Storm, and now I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the third novel, Seduced by the Storm.

Sydney Croft has crafted a series that is not to be missed. It includes danger, intrigue, romance and sex. What more could a reader ask for? Unleashing the Storm is fantastic, and I am happy to Joyfully Recommend it.

In the third installment of the exciting ACRO (Agency for Covert Rare Operatives) series by Sydney Croft we meet Wyatt Kennedy, one of ACRO's special agents. Wyatt possesses the gifted powers of telekinesis and a sexual mojo so strong that it will drive any person around him into some highly sexual behavior. The only bad or good thing about his sexual gift is anyone who spends the night with him will never remember the event or him the next time they meet. Wyatt has been sent into deep cover by ACRO on a mission where he is surrounded by ACRO's enemy, Itor a rival agency that uses their power for bad. Itor currently possess the "weather machine" which could steer or strengthen any existing storms which in the wrong hands could be deadly. For this mission Wyatt is so deep under cover that most of the people at ACRO thinks he is dead. His mission is to destroy the weather machine before Itor uses it to create storms so deadly that causalities could be high.

Faith Black is also interested in the weather machine but for reasons other then destroying it. Someone has her twin sister and is demanding she retrieves the weather machine from Itor in exchange for her sister. Faith is also a special agent who has special biokinetic capabilities. Faith hasn't seen her sister in years. They were separated after her sister was taken away at a young age.

Wyatt and Faith meet up one night after Faith ducks into the bar to avoid being followed by an enemy. After successfully escaping the enemy with Wyatt's help Faith and Wyatt spend a night of hot, steamy and dangerous sex. Thinking they'll never meet again Wyatt is surprise to find Faith on the oil rig where he is deep undercover the next day. He is even more shocked to realize that Faith remembers everything from the night before.

Where to begin? I loved, loved, and loved every moment and every page of this book. I inhaled all 368 pages of SEDUCED BY THE STORM in one sitting. This is one of the top 5 on my paranormal series list. The dynamic duo of Larissa Ione and Stephanie Tyler has done it again in this third installment of the ACRO series. I think this is the best one yet of the series. Everything fell into place nicely with the world building and character growth. It was great to see some previous characters making appearances. This book also ties up storylines that have been progressing through the previous two books which the fans will appreciate.

Fans "be warned" this one will make you cry. So have tissues handy. The sexual chemistry between Wyatt and Faith was off the charts. I mean from the first meeting until the end these two will keep you hot and bothered and so will the many other storylines. Wyatt and Faith were flawed which I loved. They weren't perfect which made them perfect for each other. The fact that they have reasons not to trust one another definitely drove this storyline. It was done nicely without any unnecessary complications.

Faith is another kick ass heroine who holds her own against Wyatt. Croft does not do wilting flower heroines which I appreciate nor are the heroines too stupid to live in my opinion. Wyatt is another strong alpha male who just radiates strength, sexiness, and smarts. We also meet some new characters that have caught my eye which I'm hoping we'll eventually get stories for them sometime in the future.

Two strong and highly trained special agents on a mission to retrieve the same deadly machine lead this reader on an intensely, exciting, sexy, fast paced, and action pack adventure. Will they stop Itor, will Faith save her sister, and can they trust each other? You'll have to run out and pick up this book to find out. Pick up a box fan too because Sydney Croft writes some freaking great sex! I highly recommend this series. You don't necessarily have to read them in order but things would definitely make more sense if you do get the previous two books which are RIDING THE STORM and UNLEASHING THE STORM. There is an ACRO story in HOT NIGHTS, DARK DESIRES Anthology but the storyline doesn't connect with the rest of the books.

Wow! What a sexy series

I loved this book. This is about Wyatt and Faith who are both operatives on diffrent sides. They meet in a bar and have hot sex and when he is going to leave he touches her face and tells her he wishes she would remember him tomorrow because he has a sexual power that the women forget him the next day. He sees her again and she remembers him, oh its true love lol. But I like how she has other character stories going but Wyatt and Faith are still what this book is about and how they struggle to trust and love each other. There are some heart renching moments in this book. More from Creed and Anika which were awesome. Oh poor Dev, that all Ill say, cant give to many secrets away. Don't have to have read the other 2 in the series, but I definatly would recomend because they are just as good.
This series really is getting better with each book. You get such in dept characater development and then the on goings of Creed and Anika Yum!

Estimates are the weather machine can easily destroy half the earth. Thus his superiors at the Agency for Covert Rare Operatives (ACRO) order American operative Wyatt Kennedy to destroy the machine before pandemic destruction is unleashed. At the same, The Aquarius Group (TAG) sends biokinetic agent Englishwoman Faith Black to obtain the weather machine for they have plans for this device.

In a bar, Wyatt and Faith meet and are immensely attracted to one another; they enjoy the tryst and though each wants more, both assume th9s is a one night stand. However, they are each concerned when they realize they are after the same target for different handlers with differing objectives. Still they team up with neither fully trusting the other once they gain the machine. In between dodging assassins, they share heated lovemaking with both wondering how their heart will survive the betrayal each expects from the other or themselves.

The third stormy romantic suspense erotic fantasy (see UNLEASHING THE STORM and RIDING THE STORM) is a superb espionage thriller in which two special agents falling in love while seeking the same gizmo but work for opposite camps. The story line is fast-paced, but it is the relationship between the ACRO and TAG agents that make for an entertaining tale work as each battle the hurricane of the century on the United States east coast with an eye on their hearts.

Nora Roberts (as J.D. Robb and otherwise) is typically a good writer with an excellent rhythm and a distinctive writing style. I've read a lot of her work and can't believe she wrote this book. The language is bland, the descriptions off, the characters constantly described rather than shown. Everything falls flat. I couldn't get past the first few lines and am extremely annoyed at having wasted my money on this terrible piece of work. If you've read any of her other "In Death" books, you won't be able to believe this was written by the same author. I can't, and won't be buying any more books with Roberts' name on them. I like to know that the book I'm reading is actually written by the person whose name is on the cover.

Harper Connelly mystery #2 is another winner

This second Harper Connelly mystery is another great read. I love the premise of her main characters: Harper, a young woman who was struck by lightening as a young child, attaining the ability of finding dead bodies and glimpsing their final moments; and her supportive brother, Tolliver, who has his own quirks. In Grave Surprise, they are off on another complicated adventure that neatly segues from Book 1, A Grave Sight.

Charlaine Harris' stories are especially well written, I found myself totally engrossed in the story. Once again, the villain(s) were well hidden; the reader is near the end of the book, with a number of plausible characters able to fill the role, before figuring out who has done all the murdering.

I'm looking forward to Book #3.

I thought the first book was interesting enough to finish, but I wasn't "WOW"ed by it. I did go ahead and pick up the second in the series, out of curiosity. I love a good paranormal mystery and I do love the author's other series! Anyway, I'm glad I did. This book was fabulous....and much more interesting than the first! (Reading the first book, though, will definately help new readers to this series understand the history of the main characters). The characters were well fleshed out, in my opinion, and the mystery not only held my attention but had me stumped for a bit. Also, the subtle direction that the relationship took with the main characters has the potential to be quite interesting. The secondary characters were all very well written and contributed well to the story. Overall, I'm excited to read the next in the series!

An excellent mystery series!

I love to read mysteries but was quite skeptical when I saw the cover, title, and summary of this book since I'm not into anything supernatural, but I read an excerpt and was instantly drawn in and absolutely loved it. I passed it on to my mother-in-law and got her hooked too. After reading the books in this series I was so hooked on Charlaine Harris' writing that I read almost every single one of her many others. Definitely check her out. You won't be disappointed with this book.

This is the second book in the Harper Connelly Mystery series.

When Harper Connelly was a young girl she was struck by lightning. Since the lightning strike there are several oddities that are now a normal part of her life; weakness in one of her legs, a spider web pattern on her leg, headaches and oh yeah, she can locate dead people. If Harper is in a reasonable distance of a corpse she can find its exact location and see the deceased's final moments.

Harper and her stepbrother, Tolliver, travel to Memphis to hold a demonstration of her talents at a very old cemetery whose records have just been located. Professor Nunley brings her out there thinking to prove her a charlatan in front of his class, only to have Harper accurately name the deceased and their causes of death. When she stumbles on a recent burial of a young girl, the professor thinks he has won. But, of course, Harper is right and memories of a case she wasn't able to solve come flooding back when she knows she finally found the poor girls body.

Harper and Tolliver are then the center of a media storm as Harpers gift is scrutinized and the search for the killer begins...

I admit to being a little put off by the unusually close relationship Harper and Tolliver seem to share. I don't know why, maybe it's because I have a brother and if he did half the things that Tolliver does, I'd scream, flee, then vomit... and I am sure the feeling is mutual. During the first book, Grave Sight (Harper Connelly Mysteries, Book 1), I had to repeat "they are step siblings; there is no blood between them." I think half way through this book I finally got over it. Halfway through this book I began to see beyond the "step" label and just see two people who share an intense past and who love and care for one another, deeply.

This was a great follow up to Grave Sight (Harper Connelly Mysteries, Book 1). I was pleased to find the mystery a little more challenging then the first one and found myself flip flopping through the list of suspects. I thought the characters gave the reader an interesting mix of feelings, often times both sympathy and suspect. I already ordered the third book, An Ice Cold Grave (Harper Connelly Mysteries, Book 3), and then went on Charlaine Harris's web site to see when I might be able to get the fourth book. It's safe to say, I am hooked!

I always enjoy Rachel Gibson's books and this third entry in the "Boise Writers" series is no exception. The main characters have a lot of chemistry and the plot is engaging. Love Maddie's quirky and cynical personality. The "secondary" characters were a little flat though - didn't find any of them particulary interesting or well developed; more like "filler". On the whole a fun, fast read.

This is the 3rd book in a series about 4 friends. The First is Sex, Lies, and Online Dating, the second is I'm In No Mood For Love. The fourth was supposed to be called 100 Bad Dates (but I think it's been renamed). I have really hated the cross promotion that Gibson has been doing in these books. They are like ads for each other and I think that is really tacky.

So far, however, this is the best in the bunch. Maddie returns to Truly, Idaho, where is lived as a little girl and where her mother was killed. She comes back to write a book about the murder.

Rachel Gibson's best books have taken place in Truly, Idaho (Truly Madly Yours and The Trouble with Valentine's Day (in next door Gospel.)) However, her worst book, True Confessions, also takes place in Truly.

This book has what I have loved about Rachel Gibson's writing -- honest characters, decent, good people, really smart, sexy dialogue and hot, hot sex scenes! Enjoy!

Pleasant, thoughtful book. A few good lines. OK characters. Nice ending.

This would be ok to get from the library, but I wouldn't buy it. A writer, Maddie, moves back to her hometown to research how her mother Alice was killed when Maddie was 5 years old. Alice was a single mom, having an affair with Loch who was married to Rose. Rose shot Loch, Alice and herself. Mick is Loch's son. Mick and Maddie are attracted to each other. Mick does not know who Maddie is since she is using her pen name.

Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: six. Setting: current day Truly, Idaho. Copyright: 2007. Genre: contemporary romance with some mystery.

Has anyone noticed that Rachel Gibson's book are not funny anymore? When she first started writing, the ideas and characters were delightful and NEW and funny. Where did all that go? It's been replaced by sex. Now anyone can write SEX but only Rachel could write funny sex and funny characters that made me care for them and pull for them.

I don't know who the author is who's now writing the book since Rachel left. Please, someone, find out where they're keeping the real Rachel and bring her back so we can laugh again. Her books used to be an automatic buy. No longer. Too much money for too little reward.

The characters are well developed and get you itching to read the rest of the MacKeltar books (#1 "Kiss of the Highlander" - (Drustans story),#2 "Dark Highlander" (drustans twin), #3 "Immortal Highlander" (Adam Black - side character interacting w/ MacKeltars), #4 "Spell of the Highlander" (part of MacKeltar clan), #5 "Highlander's Touch" (seperate story linked w/ Adam Black), #6 "Into the Dreaming" - a novella that features the fairy queen mentioned in the other books. NOTE: This is my suggestion for the order to read them in. There is not real official order in which to read them. All I know is once you finish this book, you will be itching to read the rest. ENJOY!!!

Enjoy the audio as well as the book!

Simply put, this was another great story in Moning's Highlander series. It 's a stand alone read but I would recommend reading the whole series (7 books) for a complete understanding of the story behind the Fae. Loved it!!!

Perfect for science fiction and fantasy collections.

Karen Marie Moning's THE HIGHLANDER'S TOUCH benefits from veteran narrator Phil Gigante's voice as it tells of Lisa, a 21st-century woman who falls into another century into the hands of a mighty Scottish warrior with immortal powers. Tragedy, battle and romance blend in a thought-provoking timeslip fantasy perfect for science fiction and fantasy collections.

Too many errors, too little research

At the risk of bursting everyone's bubble, I picked this book up because I am a huge fan of time-travel novels, and a little romance doesn't hurt, either. My pet peeve, however, is an author who writes a novel set in an historical time-frame and does not bother to research the period carefully. This book is a horrid example of an author not taking the time to research properly and instead writes a book full of inaccuracies and errors. Three quick examples: firearms did not exist in 14th century Scotland, kitchens often caught fire so were located in separate buildings not in the castle itself, and interior staircases had not been invented yet. And please, when Duncan is called a Lothario, that play wasn't even written until the 17th Century. You may say I am nitpicking apart a supposedly rip-roaring story, but good scholarship is paramount to decent literature. If anyone wants to read some really, really good time travel books, beautifully researched and written, check out the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.

Anna J. Laid her smack down. Even tho' these were all chicks, they had just as much drama as hetro couples. Midora was not true to herself. Jaydah should have never gotten involved with a married woman, no good can ever come from falling for some who is married. At the end Jaydah is on her way to Hotlanta and into the arms of none other then Monica! yeap the crazy chick from My Woman His Wife and The Aftermath.

Truthfully the girl on girl action was a bit much for me, I kinda skimmed over that. Still the book was very good and highly recommand it.

I've read a few of her books. They're usually very exciting to read. This one was a little less because the drama was mostly about very unthreatening situations. Her purpose was to talk about gay marriage and she did a nice job of that.

Disappointment

Another long-time fan, I was also disappointed by this effort. It tried WAY too hard, was a conglomeration of plot points and went on for far too long. And, although I love the author's usual way of completing the arcs and updating us on our favorite characters from stories past, this was forced, much in the manner of a made-for-tv "reunion" movie. Especially disappointing is the audio version of the book; the reader was, in fact, so poor that I Google'd to determine whether nepotism was afoot and he was actually the author's son. Alas, I could not blame his performance on nepotism, so he's just either very inexperienced or inept at creating different characters for those of us in the listening audience.

A beautiful love story

It has seemed like it has been forever getting Jules Cassidy and Robin Chadwick together! From the very first time they met the reader wants them to be together. You certainly feel the frustration and the hurt that Jules is feeling. At times you want to shake Robin and scream at him to open his eyes and put down the bottle. You want to comfort Jules and encourage himn to be patient with Robin (which he was). The entire Troubleshooter series, not just this book, is filled with people that are very good friends and support one another. They very quickly become the readers friends. I wish this book had been longer but I'm sure that we faithful readers will see more of Jules and Robin. This isn't just a book about a gay couple, it's a testimony to love and committment. First time readers may want to read Hot Target and Forces of Nature first to truly understand this story but what the heck? Go for it. There's not enough love in this world and life is so short.

Jules is a favorite of mine. The book is a good read and keeps you turning the pages, did not want to put it down. You have to read the previous books to appreciate this one. BUT if two people deserve to be happy Jules and Robin do.

Jules and Robin, finally together FOREVER!

Jules Cassidy and Robin Chadwick have decided to make the ultimate commitment to each other by getting married. As they plan for their future, they find themselves dealing with: plans for their upcoming wedding; remodeling disasters; dealing with Robin's father's rejection of their lifestyle; dealing with a nosey reporter; and a crazed stalker (who thinks Adam, both Jules and Robin's ex, is an alien from outer space). However, they both soon realize that things probably won't go as planned, but with the love and support of their friends (Team Sixteen and the Troubleshooters), their special day, although not perfect will be worth it. What I loved about this story was we were allowed to see the vulnerable and insecure side of Jules, and experience the difficulties of being a man (Robin)who loves while trying to kick an addiction, and win the respect of all of your lover's friends.

This short novel, which was extremely funny at times, allowed us to visit some old friends from the series: Izzy, Molly, Jones, Dolphina, Max, Gina and scores of others. But we also have the opportunity to see new relationships grow which I think will prove to be key, in the series later. There are babies in the future of Troubleshooter Family, and tons of other stuff that I can't wait to see to develop. I can't wait to read the next one book!
