This graphic novel makes the book guilty pleasures so much more enjoyable because you can now put faces completely to the charaters though some like always do not look how you pictured them at all. Amazing all around though, the artistry is something i wish i could even compare to. Love it to death!

My bad. I didn't realize it was a comic book. Graphics are good, but waste of time if you've already read any of the "Anita Blake" series. I was disappointed in this "book."

Minor quibble. Not a fan of graphic novel style books. Still, it is nice to have a new Anita Blake story to fill in the history of this story line.

I am very disappointed... with the reviewers who rated this book with less than a 4 star.
I remember years ago reading comic books that were declared the unsavory UNDERGROUND because they were not published by DC or Marvel. Those whose preferences were outside the superhero in Spandex had little to read. And we were SO bad for wanting something more... Glad those days are long over!
I enjoy reading books, comics, and mangas. They all come with their own sense of cinematography. Adaptations are difficult at best, especially when dealing with a story as loaded as Ms. Hamilton's can be.
The artwork is brilliant. Beautifully gothic without being repulsive. (Does ANYONE remember the undergrounds in which the characters looked like they had acid dumped on them, and it wasn't the LSD type??) I also was very surprised at how accurate the characters were to my own mind's picture of them. It was so comfortable to now finally see what they looked like and how well Ms. Hamilton described them in the prose version. (I would absolutely have hated being the person making the decision on which artist won out and the thumbnails of the various characters... there are just too many of them!!)
It's like reading a book, seeing the musical version, then the movie version. They all will not be the same, nor will they appeal to everyone. As for me, I enjoyed this one immensely, and I am looking forward to Vol 1 and 2 of Guilty Pleasures -- all right, I'm running a little behind in the reading department because I've been working on the writing department...
Reviewers, let's be a little more responsible. Some of these reviews remind me of those in the gourmet section of Amazon screaming at people to not eat goose liver and giving out bad reviews because of philosophical reasons, not because of how good or horrible it tasted.
I'm giving it a 5-Star rating. Excellent quality pressing. Great quality paper -- I like them heavier. The colors were brilliant and dark as they were meant to be. It survived my second library reading room (the bathroom) far better than I had anticipated. And when the husband "accidentally" bumped it off the sink, the corners did not get dinged, and the dust cover held out wonderfully.
So there!

When Codi Noline has to return to her hometown, to care for her father, it becomes an unexpected time of awakening. A number of subplots are beautiful thread throughout the story, including rekindled love, politics, the rich cultural history of the southwest, and how one might discover oneself in the most unexpected times and places. Kingsolver's ability to capture the essence of a land and its people continues to amaze me. I would rate it right up there with The Poisonwood Bible. Another beautifully written book.

A new look at an Amishman

I love reading about the Amish and I believe Mrs. Brunstetter's books are the best! Going Home is a great book that I would recommend to anyone. One of the reasons I love this book is because it shows a softer side of the Amish, especially the men. Some people think the Amish are unforgiving when it comes to family members leaving the Faith, but this book proves that to be a wrong assumption. It also shows how an Amishman can farm or do any other "man's work" and still love to do other things, such as baking.
I love to use Mrs. Brunstetter's books as a witness to my non Christian loved ones.

I'm never disappointed when I pick up a book from Wanda Brunstetter. Her account of the Amish faith is so accurate. I enjoyed Going Home; it shows how important family ties are. I also read On Her Owna and Dear to me fromt he Webster County Series. I can't wait for the final book.
My parents were both raised Amish and left when they married. I still enjoy reading about the Amish....especially the way Wanda brings families to life.

In a unique way, Brunstetter takes the characters in Going Home and gives them a twist that one might not expect to see in a novel based in an Amish community. A young widowed woman, Faith, who has left the fold to explore the English world, has come home with her six-year-old daughter, but not to stay. She continues to be enamored with the world of entertainment and wants only a good home for her daughter. A young man, Noah, who prefers to bake over farming seems to be the disappointment of his father. Yet, the scripture verses he attaches to each baked gift uplift the recipient showing him that he is doing the Lord's work. Can these two people from the same background, yet from completely different worlds, find love that the Lord has intended for them? In another brilliant story, Brunstetter brings the reader into the Amish world as the lives of the characters unfold before your eyes.

I may be in a bit of a different position than many as I live among the Amish. In fact in a former Amish house. The Amish, as well as myself love her books. They are even carried in the local Amish country store. there are some authors that the Amish will NOT buy, due to a false portrayal of the Amish.
Wanda gives a true portrayal of many of the Amish. You can't pigeon hole the Amish , anymore than you can English. their practices do vary from area to area, state to state and even Bishop to Bishop.
Amish do leave the church and some return. I think the Amish way of life is simpler, and in some ways much better than us "English".
While you are buying this pick up the Rachel Yoder books for the young girl in your life. MY 11 year old has eagerly awaited the 2 new books

This was the second in the Born In Trilogy and I enjoyed it as much as I had the first book (Born in Fire).
Once again, I listened to the audio version and I became immersed in the characters. I love how Nora Roberts bring back the two main characters from the first book, more like a continuation of the first book with the story line focusing on the second sister while still letting the reader (listener) keep up with the first set of characters.

The Story is another good one by Nora Roberts. I bought this book in Audio Form and I did enjoy it. I just wish the Narator, Fiacre Douglas, would have spoken a little slower and taken his time. I loved his Irish Accent, but I felt that he was "raceing" through the book.

It felt like a "formulaic romance novel." It had the necessary ingredients but I don't remember smiling at anything. Questions were raised and then they were logically answered later. The characters' conversations were predictable. Nothing surprised or delighted me. I was annoyed that the author used the phrase "you see" too often. This book is the 2nd in the "Born In" series. The best parts of this story were the few scenes involving Maggie, the main character from the 1st book "Born in Fire." I gave 5 stars to "Born in Fire" and 3.5 stars to "Born in Shame."

Her talents are cooking, cleaning, decorating the home, gardening and caring for others. Grayson is an American novelist who rents a room there for six months while he writes another book.
Sexual Language: mild. Number of sex scenes: five. Setting: current day village of Kilmihil, County Clare, west coast of Ireland. Copyright: 1995. Genre: contemporary romance.

This is a great coffee table book if you're a fan of the iconic television series Sex & The City - and I expect both this book and the series to have a resurgence in popularity with the movie being released in May 2008.
Whether you're a diehard fan or someone who has just watched most of the episodes over the years, this is a great book to catch up on the series or to help refresh your memory. It includes interviews/bios of all of the stars and a lot of the crew, mini episode guides including an insider anecdote for each ep, plus special features on fashion, location, and other defining traits of one of TV's greatest shows.
The book is relatively well done - they chose great photos of some of my favourite moments to complement the information and anecdotes, a lot of which I was surprised/amused to read about. I also enjoyed reading a lot of the things I didn't think I would care about, like the interviews with the cast (Samantha as Kim Cattrall almost never happened - they had actually cast someone else but begged her to come on!) and the information on location scouting.
My one major complaint would be that the book was supposedly updated to include all of season 6 - which was split into two parts. But the editors/writer got lazy because they really only included season 6 up until the final episode of the first 'half'. There was nary a single picture from the second half of season 6, which had some really cool moments/fashion statements! They included a bit of text in most sections to include the second half of S6, but even the episode guide was lacking...it only had four little blurbs that summed up the entire final part of the show.
In my mind that's a huge HUGE con to this book - I was looking forward to some more tidbits and information on those episodes and they just left them out. I have a feeling it had to do with pages of the book (i.e. you add a bit of content, you have to add a lot of extra pages) but still, this will be very annoying to just about anyone that bothers to pick this thing up.
Regardless, this is a nice book to have on your coffee table since Carrie & friends seem to be a universal interest.

I have to agree with the reviewer below my post, did Amy Sohn even watch Sex and the City? In addition to the "Carrie is every guys dream girlfriend" line which the below reviewer cited, I found several other statements flat out wrong. In the description of Charlotte, Sohn says that Charlotte "bluntly told Harry he wasn't as attractive as her". WHAT? How can anyone who's ever watched the show get this wrong? Charlotte got upset at Harry for watching the Mets (on mute) while Charlotte was serving dinner -- her first dinner as a Jew, which she had put tons of work into. The dialog between them is priceless, "I gave up Christ for you, and you can't give up the Mets?" Harry: "Oh it's going to be a long life if you keep that up. 'I gave up Christ for you, take out the trash' ". A second issue I found was in the description of Richard Wright. Sohn says that in Atlantic City Richard "slipped up once again." We actually never have proof of this, only the hint AFTER Samantha leaves the hotel room. And just to be picky, before she leaves, she says "I love you. But I love me more." (And not "I love myself more"). If you're going to directly quote a show, get it right. I like the pictures, and the overviews of the episodes, but comon. At least watch the show before you try to review it.

Where some authors start to lose their writing style/tempo in later books, JDR just gets better and better. I had an idea who the killer could possibly be half way through the book, but it didn't deter me from completing the story.
Love how JDR flips from the emotions of one character to another.
This is a definite must read. Am so looking forward to 'Creation in Death'.

I always enjoy great escapist reading and Innocent in Death is guaranteed to keep any reader riveted until the very last page. Set in a futuristic New York City and inhabited by engaging characters this book is all things to all readers....romance novel, thriller, gripping mystery and more.
It features a strong, capable (yet vulnerable) female Detective named Eve Dallas, her uber-successful drop dead gorgeous hubby Roarke; Sommerset, their dedicated, faithful and somewhat acerbic major-domo, Roarke's manipulative, sexy and equally gorgeous old flame Magdelana Percell a woman used to getting what she wants....and she wants Roarke; and Eve's partner, the ever observant Peabody.
Added to the romantic triangle aspect of the story is a fascinating mystery concerning the murder of a history teacher at a posh local girl's school. With no obvious motive for the killing, Eve is at a loss in deducing who the culprit could be. The author has provided us with a plethora of possible candidates from rival teachers to spouses to lovers as well as a look at 21st century technology.
Divulging any more details might spoil your enjoyment of this extraordinary tale. So, if your curiosity has been piqued, buy the book and enjoy.

"The Death Series" just goes on & on with no let up in quality and no drop in one's pleasure in reading the book. She transports you to another New york City that's so much the same as today And so different but plausible that it could really be New York in 2059. But that's just the background! The plot twists & turns are always fresh & never stop coming - her characters are old & familiar but in a fun, comfortable way that the reader can always count on & also be on the alert for new changes in their personal lives. Where dores she keep coming up with these new crimes and plots??? What a gifted writer. I feel sorry for anyone who hasn't had the hundreds of hours of pleasure I've had from reading this series sterting with the very first book. Don't miss a single one.

I obviously did the reading backwards - still.... While looking for something to read after plowing through I don't know how many books - I stumbled across this one. Needless to say, I have since ordered the remaining six in the series. I more than thoroughly enjoyed this reading -the characters, the plot, the dialogue and so on. Enough so that it has prompted me to write a review, which I never do or have done.
What impressed me most was the tenderness shared between the characters, those involved, and those not. I have read some reviews that say the relationships are a bit unrealistic... Reading is an escape, a fantasy, a learning tool, whatever. If I wanted reality all the time, I wouldn't be buried in a book!
I Love Dana and Amory and agree with the reviewer who thinks they should have their own series!! Something undeniably sweet about them.
I am working on my own "story" that I hope will grow up to be book someday. I hope I am fortunate enough, clever enough - to be graced with the presence of Radclyffes style and charm.
At any rate - if you want something to read that will capture your attention, imagination and a bit of your heart - read this...but start from book one! I do intend to reread the latest installment all over again once I read the first six - Indeed, it was that enjoyable.

I have really enjoyed reading the Honor series and was super excited when Word of Honor came out. It did not disappoint! Although the story does seem a little repetitive at times, it is well written and shows excellent character development. I love this series because I love reading about Blair/Cameron and Stark/Savvard's growing relationships. Who doesn't love a good romance? Now I have to wait for the next one!

There are so many wonderful characters in WORD OF HONOR.
Radclyffe did a great job developing Cam and Blair's entourage.
I love the way these women all support each other. Even if one messes up, the others are there to pick up the slack.
I Like how Rad develops the mysterious Valerie and the OH SO FINE newcomer, Dana.
The interaction between the news reporter, Dana, and the alluring scientist, Emory, is done flawlessly.
There is always something happening in this novel - some new event to wonder about.
Yes, it IS fast paced! The adrenalin rushes as Rad describes the enemy and brings the reader into his 'camp'.
If reading about powerful women trying to find the enemy isn't entertaining enough, one is then dropped into Cam and Blair's Rocky Mountain wedding, where LOVE is the happening assignment.
If only I could talk about the ending! It must have had Radclyffe glowing when she thought of it. It's clever, inspiring, terrifying, powerful, heart stopping, take a breath now, kind of ending. One of the best yet.

I was so looking forward to this new arc into the lives of Cam and Blair and hoping this is where Cam gets to be the great agent she is supposed to be and bring down the bad guy. Disappointed again. She's turned Cameron into a whimp who cowtows to Blair. I'm ashamed to say Radclyffe has turn the series from suspense to smut. She has lost her objective of the secret service agents, which is to get the bad guy, not jump each others bones every five seconds. And another thing, this story was so short it was more like a school essay than a novel. I'm tired of these writer's getting away with less than 300 pages and some of the pages are blank. Here it is, you wait for almost a whole year for the sequel and its over in two days. I hope this is the last of this series. The characters could have been so much more.
Good but not as engrossing as other books in the series

I think Rad has mined the last gold from these characters. I'm glad she tied up most of the loose ends, but if there is another book, I think it will be one book too many. I found myself thinking that the protective arm of the Secret Service is seldom called to fire their guns in this country (much less every six months). The problem with writing fiction that parallels contemporary happenings is that it is difficult to do it without treading on reality and putting some of what we wish will/had happpened in the fiction. It is another good read, but I'm glad the series seems to be at an end. Yes, I know that there are other stories that could be told because she has so many characters that we care about, but for the nonce they should be allowed to live their lives in our imaginations and not on the printed page.
One question: How did Ellen Grant (first two books) morph into Ellen Marks in this book? If she took her husband's name or went back to her maiden name a nit-picker like me would like to know.

This was an amazing entry into the Hollows series. The artifact from FFOC is creating chaos and everyone wants to get their hands on its power. Meanwhile, Rachel is getting even more involved with Demons, and this time they won't leave her alone! Relationship drama overheats between Kisten, Ivy and Rachel. There is a definite sense of resolution with this book, but there are still enough unresolved issues to keep me eagerly anticipating the follow up. In response to some of the bad reviews I've read: Yes, this book needed some editing. It wasn't enough to bother me, but it was enough of an issue to notice. The fact is, however, that this is a solid novel. The action is intense and the last 100 of pages or so I was actually in tears. Rachel isn't perfect, but she has good intentions. Her love and loyalty for her friends are an amazing thing to witness. This is a girl trying to do the right thing in a world where the wrong things are everywhere. In a publishing world where too many amazing authors are churning out incomplete, half-hearted versions of our past favorites, Kim Harrison is still giving us fleshy, character driven, action intense, complete volumes. Also, as we can see from this installment, Kim is also not afraid to take risks. I loved this book and while I wasn't personally happy about several things that happened within, I can say that I believed these events will only make the series stronger. If you enjoyed the previous Hollows books at all, you certainly need to grab this one up...just bring along some tissues.
I'm in the minority here

In all fairness, this was the first book I read in this series so maybe I didn't appreciate the full depth of the characters and their personalities. I had high hopes for it after reading good reviews online and in the Romantic Times Book Reviews.
Having said that, Rachel Morgan was the most unlikeable character I've ever met between the covers of a book. Rachel annoyed me as a know-it-all, overbearing character who took it upon herself to walk all over everyone, including the FIB. I know this is a fantasy novel but I rolled my eyes more times than I could count at some of her actions; it was the first time in memory that I didn't care if something bad happened to the lead character and her friends. I love good, exciting action in a book but I didn't get hooked into this story until the last 50 pages and then I was disappointed and angry about what happened to the only character I actually liked in this book. I might need to go back and pick up Book 1, starting the series from the beginning but I don't have the patience for it right now. I wouldn't recommened For a Few Demons More unless you've read the prior books in the series and enjoyed Rachel.

I like the world, I even like the lead Rachel, and I'm interested in how the various intertwined love lives will resolve - but this book needed a tough editor to do the following: rip out 200 pages of pap, get the tension back into Rachel's decisions between her male lover, and wannabe female lover, remove the obvious plot devices that were something of an insult to the reader, and get the fear factor back into things. Rachel deals so casually with demons that will take her soul, yet is more concerned about a glance at a taunt set of buttocks that when it happens, it grates, then irritates, then finally insults the reader. It could and should have been better than this!

This book contains the last 2 stories of the wonderful O'Hurley siblings.
In Skin Deep you have the story of Chantal the oldest triplet. She is the beautiful Hollywood actress who finds herself being stalked and harrassed by an unknown over eager fan. She reluctantly hires Quinn Doran to protect her and help find out who is messing with her. Quinn soon discovers her beauty is more than just Skin Deep.
In without a Trace we finally find out what older brother Trace O'Hurley has been up to all these years. Dr. Gillian Fitzpatrick offfers him $100,000 to help her find her brother and neice who have been kidnapped for their scientific knowledge of a project called Horizon. Gillian and Trace have an adventure ahead of them. Finally there is an O'Hurley reunion at the end.
This is a good early Nora Roberts book. I think you will enjoy it.
