Pretty good readReview Date: 2008-09-19
Outstanding gay erotic fictionReview Date: 2008-08-29
Les and Randy are both healing from emotional and physical injuries when they happen upon each other, and their chemistry and need for each other are both immediate and palpable.
Like any courtship, theirs is filled with uncertainty and some fear as both have been hurt in the past. Will they find common ground? Can they deal with prejudice from their families and the world? Can they find the strength in each other that they need to grow? I think you know the answers. You WILL want to read the book to find out for yourself.
I was impressed with the author's quick and direct movement into their courtship and couple-hood. The author starts AT their meeting and courtship and sprinkles back story in with the current events and does so with skill and grace.
This is a moving and warm novel between two endearing and warm characters that you will like and for whom you will happily root. It is more than entertaining; you can feel the love between these two characters; it's a pleasure to experience.
I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in gay erotic fiction. This is a real gem. Enjoy.

Cowboy Sex RompReview Date: 2008-06-19
This one, though, is the best of the lot. The main unbelievable part of the story is the strange violent source of Randy's disillusionment - his father. Les' own past is nearly as unbelievable. But, as the story proceeds, these two characters do take on fairly real personae. Their love for each other, tentative at first and primarily based on sex throughout most of the novel, becomes apparent and rather nice. In all of these stories, the main characters eventually develop a backbone to take a firm stand against homophobia and bigotry. They show some elements of bravery in the face of the usual vile prejudices in our society.
However, make no mistake. This story (nor any that Langley has written) is not literature or anything close to it. What it is, is a relatively interesting story of these two guys' developing love, used as a vehicle to write gay porn. There's nothing wrong with that, except most of these books are just trash. This one isn't, in my estimation. I read it in about 5 hours one day. I only skipped a few pages - rare for me with books like this that are so predictable.
Naturally, it has a mostly happy ending. But I must say, I was rooting for these two people and some of the minor characters in the book. You'll be mildly entertained through most of the book, as long as you look past the evident superficiality and the "literary vehicle" Chase uses to write some realistic, though repetitive, steamy sex scenes.
I give it a 3 because, while it has no literary value at all, it's a fun read -- as long as you read fast and don't think too much. Just sit back and enjoy it. No point in hoping that this book is something it is not.

Hot, super spicy story...Review Date: 2008-07-02
This is one of a series of books in the Ghostwalker series. You can read this book out of order because it was a great stand-alone story on its own.
This story centers around Gator, one of a group of enhanced soldiers called The Ghostwalkers. The Ghostwalkers can communicate telepathically and each has a different power. Gator's power is the ability to use sound to either communicate, or to kill.
Gator is sent to find Flame, a genetically enhanced female enhanced from childhood on by the evil mastermind who created special abilities in several female children, keeping them in cages like lab rats. He also infected Flame with cancer then put her into remission (no worries - this isn't a spoiler, it's told in the beginning of the book). The power she has is also the ability to use sound. Flame is no fading violet. I really liked her strong character.
Gator does find Flame. They embark together on a journey against unspeakable evil. To say more would destroy the suspense.
The only negative for me, it might not be a negative to you, is that her intimate scenes were long and extremely intense - one spanned three chapters. There was another one near the end of the book that I paged past because it went on and on and on.
I borrowed this book from the library and am strongly considering buying a copy as a keeper for my own bookshelf.

I really like this Ghostwalker book. Great storyline/plot and characters. I was really sorry when the book came to an end. I hope Ms. Feehan will write more of this kind of novels/books. Very enjoyable. Highly recommendable.

I felt so bad for Flame, here life had been rough--but there were times during the reading that I felt she could have taken some precautions against being hurt--bruised and torn up. The fact that she had cancer and it was out of remission should have made her less willing to endure pain--should have made her more cautious--but this is fiction,, after all!
I simple loved the fact that Gater kept getting excited over the knieves Flame carried, and Flame kept referring to him as a Perv! LOL!

Libby Mason's Mr. Right is wealthy, gorgeous, and willing to support her in the style to which she'd like to become accustomed. So when she meets Nick, who is gorgeous, but who's also a struggling unemployed writer "on the dole" (why does that sound better than "welfare" or "unemployment"?), she knows he can't be The One. But he's so fun and sexy that she can't resist spending time with him. They embark on a relationship that they keep reassuring each other isn't serious, but it turns out to be such a great relationship that Libby's starting to reassess her criteria, and despite her denial, she's starting to fall in love with him.
And then Nick breaks up with her.
Out with her girlfriend in an attempt to cheer up, she meets Ed McMann (I know I'm not the only one taken aback by his name--the PW review spelled it McMahon!), who's everything she thought she wanted. Okay, so he's not gorgeous, but he is sweet, and one of Britain's most eligible bachelors, and he's definitely willing to spend money on her.
And so maybe he gets on her nerves, and the sex is terrible, but it'll get better over time, right?
I had such a difficult time with this book at first. Libby is unabashedly materialistic--wearing designer clothes, going to the best restaurants and clubs, all in the search of her wealthy Mr. Right. And Nick wasn't much better--blame my Puritan American background, but I had a very hard time sympathizing with a young, healthy, intelligent person choosing to go on welfare rather than work.
But along the way, they grew on me. Mostly because they grew--or Libby did, at least. Nick redeemed himself in the end. Eh--the story is about Libby, growing, changing, learning--that's why it's chick lit (or women's fiction--I still prefer the chick lit label) and not romance.
I loved how Libby changed while she was with Nick, and then I loved how she tried very hard to make the relationship with Ed work. The format was great--she grew in the relationship with Nick, and those changes were evident in her relationship with Ed. And boy, could I relate to her determination to make it work, as well as to her decision that since it didn't work out with the man she loved, she was going to settle for the one who met her old criteria.
And unlike other stories with this plot, Libby did care about Ed and worried about hurting him.
I believe I have another one of Green's books in my TBR pile. I look forward to reading it.

The sex was hot, but the story was notReview Date: 2008-08-25
Nothing like a hot though reluctant Alpha male, to get the heart pumping. Some good sex scenes, but the story wasn't strong enough...which leads me to the author, and the development (i.e. foundation) of this story. There wasn't enough of it, or it was intentionally written to be a fairly light read.
If you want to read some hot sex scenes, and aren't as concerned about a story with a lot of depth, read it...if not, pass it.

Seeing Eye Mate Review Date: 2008-07-30
Tiernan Jones' car has mysteriously broken down and she decides to wait for the tow truck in the bar across the street. Instantly, Tiernan feels that she is being stared at and looks around for the source. She finds it alright, but almost thinks she is dreaming. There are two gorgeous men staring at her like she just might be dinner. Finally the tow truck shows up but the operator is smarmy and Tiernan just is not comfortable. Unable to bring herself to accept a ride from Mr. Scary, Tiernan is surprised and secretly relieved when one of the men from the bar shows up. After introductions are made, Tiernan's car decides to cooperate and she drives away. She doesn't have a clue that she just drove away from her destiny.
Caelan hunts for and finally finds Tiernan a few days later and shows up at her house. While she might be surprised at his audacity, she is surprised more at her own body's reaction to Caelan's nearness and scent. Hormones kick in and Tiernan is lost in the wonder that is Caelan. Add to the picture a dead grandmother who talks to Tiernan in her head and the fact that Tiernan is having visions, the road ahead of Caelan and Tiernan is going to be rocky, especially when Tiernan's visions implicate Caelan's twin as the mate murderer.
Seeing Eye Mate is brilliant. Annmarie McKenna has woven a tale of suspense, intrigue, delicious naughtiness, with a bit of comedy thrown in for good measure. Caelan's primordial instincts were a sight to behold and I found myself almost jealous of Tiernan. Alas, Caelan was not mine to keep as he only had eyes for his mate. Tiernan is strong, sexy, and I found myself laughing out loud at her conversations with her grandmother.
Seeing Eye Mate kept me turning the pages and I couldn't put it down until I read the final word. Just when I thought I had the storyline figured out, I realized I was wrong. I love when an author can keep me from guessing the plot and Annmarie McKenna did just that very thing, much to my chagrin. I have happily placed Seeing Eye Mate on my keeper shelf and have decided that Annmarie McKenna is one author I want to keep reading!

Historical excellenceReview Date: 2008-05-25
Having seen her parents destroy themselves in a loveless marriage, Roslyn Loring is determined to marry for nothing less than true love. She attends a Cyprian's masked ball in an attempt to find out what makes a man fall for a woman. It's there that she meets Drew Moncrief, the Duke of Arden, who is on the prowl for a mistress. Roslyn successfully evades him for a short time, but doesn't escape him altogether until after the two have shared a briefly passionate encounter. When Roslyn is confronted by Drew at her sister's wedding to his best friend, she has no choice but to admit to the suspicious Drew the true reason behind her attendance at the ball. When she goes so far as to ask him for lessons in seduction so she can seduce her handsome neighbor into proposing, Drew cannot refuse.
When Drew sees the familiar face of Roslyn Loring at his friend's wedding, it doesn't take long before he places her as the young woman he met at the ball. He threatens to expose her to her family if she doesn't tell him the truth behind her risqué behavior. Once he gets past the initial shock of Miss Loring's request to teach her the ways of seduction, he finds he cannot refuse her. When those lessons go beyond simple instruction and the two become intimate, Drew can no longer bear the thought of continuing to prime Roslyn for another man. He wants her for himself, but convincing Roslyn that he is ready to put his rakish ways behind him won't be easy. It appears that Drew may well have a lesson or two to learn from his delicately beautiful pupil.
TO BED A BEAUTY is the second in a three-book "Courtship Wars" series by Nicole Jordan. I read this book before reading the first book and enjoyed it very much as a stand-alone novel. I didn't feel as any details were missed by my not having read the first book. Roslyn is an independent, highly intelligent woman who is determined to marry on her own terms rather than those set out by society. Her strong feelings after the heartache and pain she and her sisters experienced at the hands of their parents are excellently written. Drew is a rake, a real ladies' man who is determined to never marry. Having been raised by a coldhearted mother he has his own reasons to avoid shackling himself to a woman. Watching these two fall for each other, incredulous at the deep emotions the other has stirred, was highly enjoyable. Secondary characters and events serve to enrich this wonderful story without detracting from Roslyn and Drew. Ms. Jordan is undoubtedly one of the masters of historical romance and I highly recommend this book as well as any of her previous work. I did go back and read the first book in this series, TO PLEASURE A LADY, and equally enjoyed it, but haven't yet read the third book, TO SEDUCE A BRIDE. If you enjoy fine historical romance, I hope you won't miss this latest series from Nicole Jordan.
Roslyn's clever plans of 'orderly' love are shaken by the Real Thing Review Date: 2008-04-24
In fact, Roslyn (the middle sister of the Lorings) has a very carefully planned strategy for winning the hand of a respectable gentleman, which involves pleasing him as a mistress would... since she has always noticed that men seem to LOVE their mistresses more than their wives. She hopes to act like a mistress in order to attract the 'right' man to marry her (and, fall in love with her, for she wants genuine love), but she has no experience in these matters. The man who can teach her these things is the Duke of Arden; he doesn't believe in love matches at all, so he feels he can teach Roslyn these things without falling for her -- this will prove to be much more difficult than he ever dreamed!
Roslyn and Drew are full-blooded, four-dimensional characters, complete with hearts and souls, who fall hard for each other. And wow do they have some beautiful love scenes together. Another reviewer wrote that Nicole Jordan puts the 'steam' in steamy. I'll second that!
She is an amazing author who draws you in, page by page. Her plots and characters are believable, real, and you cannot help but want to know more... and THEN you want to read the third book (To Seduce a Bride), another winner!
Enjoy the ride!

The second book in the Courtship Wars seriesReview Date: 2008-04-21
When Drew Moncrief attends a Cyprians' masked ball, his first intention is to find a new mistress. When the only woman he finds himself interested in, an innocent-looking blond temptress, flees his company, Drew finds himself determined to give chase. He attempts to secure the woman as his own, using skilled seduction and soft words, only to find that the woman then flees his company for good. And when he meets up with her again at his best friend's wedding, he realizes why she fled. Roslyn is a lady, not at all the sort of woman who should be in the company of courtesans. And when she asks Drew's help in learning the art of seduction, he finds himself compelled to assist her.
To Bed a Beauty is the second book in Nicole Jordan's Courtship Wars series, following To Pleasure a Lady (Courtship Wars, Book 1). This series is focused on a push-pull relationship between the hero and heroine, keeping tensions high until the pair manage to fall in love. In this book Roslyn was an absolute delight, a strong, confident woman who refuses to settle for anything less than true love. Roslyn is content with her simple life, but wants more for her future than just a marriage of convenience. She saw her parents endure such a union and knows that a marriage full of secrets and infidelity would not suit her. She wants passion, she wants children, and she wants love. To that end, she is willing to do anything to obtain them, even using the more-than-willing duke as her tutor. On the contrary, Drew Moncrief is a man who knows nothing of love. His mother is a purported ice queen, and Drew has been used for his money and title more often than he can count. He agrees to help Roslyn in her attempts to find love, though he finds the idea abhorrent, just so that he can get his hands on the beauty, though he doesn't expect to fall in love.
I liked To Bed a Beauty infinitely more than the first book in the series, and am eager to see how Jordan wraps up the story of the third Loring sister in To Seduce a Bride (Courtship Wars, Book 3). This series is full of confident young heroines who don't need a man to make them happy, but who understand that finding true love will round out their already fulfilling lives. These books can be read out of sequence, but I'd definitely recommend picking up To Pleasure a Lady before reading this book.

Boring!Review Date: 2008-08-08
I was also disturbed by the first "love scene." I use the term loosely because it read more like a rape sequence than first time lovers. She is coerced into the bed, her mind manipulated and controlled, then she is violently used.
The villians finally make a real showing after half a book of Gregori's bossing, mind control and, at one point, taking control of Savannah's body to force her to do what he told her. The "action" there is still weak, with Savannah interrupting Gregori during action sequences via telepathy to remind him that she doesn't like having to sit at home and wait.
While I know she didn't compose it, the back cover blurb is also deceptive. It says the story is set in New Orleans, while they don't get to NO until more than halfway through the book, and it makes it sound like the story is about them getting to the "claiming the lifemate" marriage ritual, which actually takes place very early in the book. The book isn't about getting to the marriage, it's about them nagging each other and him forcing her to give in to him in all things. I think the back-cover writers were also at a loss to find the plot.
I'm very dissappointed with this book. I've read Feehan's other series and know she can write strong, alpha males who don't resort to this kind of abusive control of a woman. She knows how to write engaging and intriguing men and women. She knows how to write action so intense the reader leaves sweaty fingerprints on every page. None of that is evident in "Dark Magic." I think the one star I gave it is generous, but no stars wasn't an option.

Don't give up on Ms. PalmerReview Date: 2008-05-13
that the page limit would not allow. So, I think we need to give ms. palmer some credit that she even accomplished a far better written book then some of the other harlequin desire books I have wasted my money on.
Her desire books are a lot more complete and less rushed then the others.
So, please reread this book, slowly and maybe you will see what I mean.
I have read some really bad books in my life time by bestselling authors,
this one was a step above some of those.
Please, Mrs. Palmer read some of your old books!!!!!Review Date: 2008-05-10
I have been her fan for more then 15 years.I have about 100 hundred books of hers.
What is going on with Mrs. Palmer in the last 5 or so years? She is not capable of writting anything that can even come close to any of her older books.
This particular book is so booooring...Sara is huging Jared in cemetery and offering him to look out for each other, and he is so interested in the North African theater of war,uh give me a break Diana! And please do not put on your books something like " brand new Long Tall Texans story", because I have all of those stories and the new ones are just very bad.Why is that I am wondering??
Why Mrs Palmer does not stick to her writting style that made her so popular!! I think she should read some of her old stories just to refresh her memory what we like and EXPECT from her. Mrs. Palmer let's start with September morning from 1983., or Unlikely lover.
Please, Mrs.Plmer do change and start delivering the new stories but written in your old style.Thank you.
If it is possible I will give this book less then one star.

Carpathian stories are becoming redundantReview Date: 2008-08-12
Another characteristic of the Carpathian novels is the endless passages of narrative. Very little of it seems to be vital to the storytelling and all of it makes me yawn. I do recommend the series to insomniacs, however. It works wonders for putting me to sleep.
I think the most frustrating thing about Feehan's "Dark" books to me is that I've read her other two series, the Drake Sisters and the Ghostwalkers, and both of those feature strong women and strong men who balance each other, as well as intense action, strong narrative and engaging dialog. Where those series keep the reader turning pages, this entire series is ultimately forgetable and repetitive.
I'd recommend skipping not only Dark Destiny, but the Carpathian series as a whole and reading either the Drakes or the Ghostwalkers instead.

With the backgrounds making the characters actually interesting and the book being an all around nice read, I'd suggest this to a few people. Oh sure there wasn't a wildly interesting plot but the same thing could be said about the movies nowadays. In fact, I plan on checking out the author's other works.
