My 6-year old godson loves itReview Date: 2008-04-03
This book will definitely be one he enjoys for many years. Some of the subject matter is just within his attention level and understanding, but the more intricate details and artifacts will prove fun discoveries as he gets older and has the patience to read over each part carefully. i'm a big fan of the whole series.

Phenomenal art!Review Date: 2008-08-17
Turns out this is a really phenomenal book with some great art work. The story pretty much mirrors the film from start to finish so it was really easy for him to follow (he's only 2). But the art style is what I enjoy the most. It appears to be concept art that was compiled simply for the book and it has a really warm and loving feel to it.
Highly Recommended!

The book itself is okay. Just the basic outline of the Wall-E story. It is made in the same style as the Pixar 'Cars' Little Golden Book.

My Granddaughter loved it!!!!!!!!1Review Date: 2008-07-10
This book was required reading for my granddaughter when she went into the 3rd grade. Once she began reading, she couldn't put it down till she finished it. I can remember when I used to have some of the authors books written for adults and how much I enjoyed them especially one she wrote many years ago about turning 40.
My granddaughter said to give this one a "thumbs up"
thanks

A Must Read.
Best book of the seriesReview Date: 2008-08-13
My two main issues were Raven as a goth and Raven's relationship with Alexander. As both of those are central to the books, it did cause quite a problem.
Let's start with the goth problem. For those who are wondering, I am not gothic. I am a punk, but do not think that makes me unqualified. I am fascinated by subcultures, which helped me greatly on an AP essay in my junior year (Basically, `The 1950s were a time of great conformity. Is this true or was counterculture already forming?'). Raven really rubbed me the wrong way because of how she viewed herself as a complete outsider in Dullsville because they could not accept her black-clad self. I always felt the town she lived in would be a lot more inviting if she stopped viewing it in her head as "Dullsville." I also felt like she constantly put her clothes forth as an excuse for being an outsider in Dullsville (and an insider in Hipsterville). Besides being highly unlikely (hello, goth is *gag* trendy), this completely misses the point of being a goth. It's about love. Love of the music, love of the clothes, love, love, love (well, hate of the culture against which it is reacting). Finally, in this book, I felt like Raven actually did find meaning in her clothes other than identification of her status as an outsider, due to this conversation with her hippie aunt:
'"I can't imagine you any other way. The way you dress is who you are. It's more than beads and bangles. You aren't doing it to be like someone else, or fit in."
. . .
". . . I don't wear tattoos to freak her out; I wear them because I have to. It's me."
Aunt Libby paused.
"My mother never understood my inner style, either," she confessed. "That's what it is, really," she said wisely. "It's not about designers or labels but self-expression. And attitude."'
Next, let's move to the problem of her relationship with Alexander. I find her approach to the relationship creepy. Replace "goth" and "vampire" with "golddigger" and "trust-fund baby" and you might see what I mean. Often I feel Raven only became attracted to Alexander because he's a vampire and he dresses in black too. Not a foundation for a lasting relationship. Of course, a lasting relationship is what she's running into headlong. THE COFFIN CLUB forces Raven to consider aspects of becoming a vampire she never bothered to slow down and think about before. Including, sadly, the fact she would have to drink blood. As she says about herself, "I thought I was being investigative and mature when perhaps I was only being reckless." She needs to take that lesson and apply it to her entire life. Raven doesn't yet possess the maturity to tie herself to one person for eternity. She needs to realize that.
As for the rest of the novel, THE COFFIN CLUB is an extremely quick (192 pages) but entertaining read. There's family bonding, some cute romantic moments, and tension between the two factions seeking control of the club. Girly-girl vamps Scarlet and Onyx are now my favorite part of the series. They're idealistic, loyal, and I hope they show up again to steal the show in future installments.

I purchased this book as a gift. The recipient was 7.
Most of the book is still a little much for her yet, but she was beyond excited just the same. There was some that she thinks is interesting now, but as she gets older, there will be so much more for explore in the book. After going through the entire book, you have to remind yourself that dragons truly aren't real!

GRRM has created a monster that almost escapes his control. His world is so vast and full of amazing characters that all other modern fantasy novels seem weak.
Oh! Too many characters! Oh my, where are all the main ones??!1?!
STFU and enjoy this for what it is, a monster novel that never stops evolving.
I for one, can not wait for A Dance with Dragons. I can't wait to see what happens to the rest of the cast.
I loved the focus on the minor charactersReview Date: 2008-09-26
to each his own I guess.
In any event... GO BUY THIS WHOLE SERIES FOR THE LUV OF GAWD. It is awesome. I can't imagine any true fantasy nerd not reading this most holy of fantasy series.
Does GRRM care how angry readers are getting?Review Date: 2008-09-25
A Feast for Crows was a huge disappointment to almost everyone. GRRM new it was a pretty poor effort and he offered some weak explanations in his web site - the entire work was too long for one volume, Dances with Dragons was coming soon, he had writer's block, he had to go to this convention and that convention, yadda, yadda, yadda....... I'm pretty angry that GRRM, whom we all thought would fill the void created when Robert Jordan turned into a literary prima donna, seems so dismissive of readers' frustration with the time between books and the short comings of Feast For Crows. Is there any point in my or other readers getting angry? Probably not. GRRM will finish Dances With Dragons in his own good time, and readers will buy it as quickly as drug addicts going through withdrawal. If Dances With Dragons does not get the series back on track I'm finished with it. I won't get sucked into another Wheel Of Time morass.

This was the classic fight of good versus evil. Only a woman could bring the salvation of one man. It was an enjoyable read, and I think Brenda Joyce is on the verge of something big.

Not Sexy Flirty Aidan but his evil 'twin' earns redemption in Dark EmbraceReview Date: 2008-09-25
While I did like the book, I would have been exceedingly upset with Dark Embrace if I hadn't already known that Aidan in this story is not the the rakish flirting Aidan from the past two books - fortunately the excerpt in the last book gave me time to prepare. Still I really wish that Aidan was the one we got to read about. Oh well.
Instead of finishing off a triology, Dark Embrace is starting a new one about the witchy powered Rose women. Brie's relatives (cousins I think) are next up. We've already seen a bit of Tabby's future in the past (how confusing is that) with her mate and it looks like Sam and Nick will hook up in another. So look for Tabby to get her own medieval Highlander when the series continues with Dark Victory in March 2009.
Not the worse book I ever read either, but...Review Date: 2008-09-24

Harper Connelly mystery #2 is another winnerReview Date: 2008-09-07
Charlaine Harris' stories are especially well written, I found myself totally engrossed in the story. Once again, the villain(s) were well hidden; the reader is near the end of the book, with a number of plausible characters able to fill the role, before figuring out who has done all the murdering.
I'm looking forward to Book #3.

We bought this for our young children (5-year old and 4-year old) as they were excited by the Pirates of the Caribbean movie trilogy.
We bought this book along with "Pirates" by John Matthews last year. We take the books off the shelf every couple months and read through them for bedtime. The books will stay in our collection for years to come.
This book helps introduce a large amount of new vocabulary but, more importantly, covers so much ground that it acts as a fantastic springboard to further study history or science.
