If you like Chelsea's brand of humor as seen on her E! Television show, then you'll love this book. It was absolutely laugh out loud hilarious! I felt the stories got funnier as the book progressed, Dim Sum and Kimmy being my faves. I highly recommend for any fan! Way to go, Yelsea (haha!)

I've watched Chelsea Handler on TV for quite some time as late night fodder that usually puts me to sleep. She's a funny woman with good timing and is nice to look at. Her wit is quick, her delivery sharp. I'm just not all that interested in celebrity gossip, which overwhelms the content.
This book, however, is another story. Presenting as a series of stories from her life, it qualifies as an off-beat memoir with light tales about a young party girl living her life in the spotlight. She's self-deprecating and self-promoting at the same time, and in spite of her crude and irreverent (politically-incorrect) personality, ultimately I was charmed by these stories. The writing is very good, certainly on par with other famous humor writers, including David Sedaris.

Her stories are laugh out loud funny, but her writing style is much more novice compared to David Sedaris... whoever said she may compare is way off!

I feel like I've come late to the party that is Chelsea Handler, but better late than never. This collection of stories is in a word, hilarious. Chelsea is a natural storyteller and these pages go by so quickly I found myself looking for more when I reached page 264. She's original, irreverent, bawdy, gutsy and VERY funny.
It's hard to pick a favorite, but the story of boyfriend Mohammad and the Peekapoo (apparently a gay dog), and another that included a night with the drunken "midget" named Kimmy, had me laughing out loud and sharing snippets. There are no stinkers in the collection, each is funnier than the previous as you get to know her humor and her quirks, which yes--DO include a lot of vodka.
If you like the work of Laurie Notaro The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life or Sandra Tsing Loh A Year in Van Nuys you'll love the work of Chelsea Handler.
Michele Cozzens, author of I'm Living Your Dream Life and The Things I Wish I'd Said.

Though as candid and brilliantly inappropriate as her first collection of essays, 'Vodka' reaches past points of 'horizontal life' to focus more on love, family, and friendship. The end product is a rather remarkable collection of stories that are astoundinly funny, yet surprisingly heartfelt. Handler writes with a sincerity that cushions her bluntness. Wheather reading about being kicked half naked out of a London restauraunt, love scorn Peekapoos, or being dry-humped by an angry asian masseause, its certain you'll be in for laughs the whole way through. By the end of the collection, you'll realize the situations are only half the story. The real story is who is by your side to share them with.

Chelsea's smart, funny and raunchy in a hold nothing back sort of way that makes you wonder what Mae West might be like if she were around today. This is exactly what a collection of fictional comedic vignettes should be.

Love my husband, but we had problems. I wasn't recieving what I need to love him the way he needed to be loved. I just started as he suggested and looked for what he needed, and in return he was open to love me as I needed. I have been married 29 years, I have never felt so secure in my love from my husband. It's a must read for anyone who wishes to have the marriage that the Lord intended.

I really enjoyed this book. It helps to know how my children feel loved. I have a child that feels love by receiving words of affirmation and another that feels love by physical touch. I especially liked the chapter about discipline. I don't think parents discipline enough and when they do, they do it wrong according to this book. There is a way to discipline while still showing love to your kids. It is our responsibility to discipline our children if we want them to grow up and be responsible adults. If we don't discipline them, we are only hurting them in the long run.

I highly recommend The Five Love Languages The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate (Men's Edition) To anyone searching for a way to better understand THEMSELVES and thier LOVED ONE.
The book is an easy read (and I don't like to read). It shares life examples that can be applied to anyone's situation. I read the men's edition because that is what was availible to me it was just as helpful and I believe other than comments at the end of each chapter the main text is the same as the regular version.

Neil gives his story of how he started in the community. He was one of the first to attend Mystery's workshops and than soon after start teaching with him. All of Neil's hardships he encounters, fears and set backs he tells all in this book as he learns about himself.
There are lessons intertwined about what he learned working with a lot of the seduction teachers.

What a great read "The Game" is! I was enthralled, fascinated, repulsed, amused, embarrassed, nauseated and impressed - all at the same time!!
Neil Strauss, writer and self-confessed loser in love takes on the challenge of transforming himself into not just a PUA (Pick Up Artist), but an MPUA (Master Pick Up Artist). Using the alias Style, Strauss sets out to learn the secrets of luring HB's (Hot Babes) into bed from the current masters of the game. There's Mystery, an illusionist-cum-pick up artist- genius, who teaches the Mystery Method of Seduction; there's David D'Angelo, who teaches the Cocky-Funny method; the legendary Steve P, an acknowledged master of the game, and a slew of other experts, who specialise in turning awkward, luckless nerds into chick magnets.
As a woman reading this, I was fascinated by the whole subculture of PUA's, their websites, their field reports, their group houses and most of all, their special lingo. It is quite remarkable that they have evolved an extensive list of acronyms and terms which they use to talk to each other about "The Game". I had no idea that something like this existed and it never have occurred to me that men agonise to such an extreme extent over their abillity (or lack thereof) of attracting women. Are PUA methods creepy and flat-out manipulative? You bet they are!! No stone has been left unturned by these self-styled seduction gurus to find the ultimate way to charm a Hot Babe into bed. They have adapted principles of neurolinguistic programming, hypnosis, backhanded insults, cold shoulder tactics, blatant lying and other subversive forms of psychological manipulation to hunt down all willing females. I was blown away by this first-hand account of such an amazing, unknown till now, subculture.
Neil Strauss aka Style, is a wonderful writer who is consistently amusing whilst giving a serious and truthful account of his two-year adventure as a loser in love turned Master PUA. I found his insights into women credible and insightful and he comes across as someone I would have loved to date myself! He is intelligent, articulate, funny and adorable! His descriptions of the current Pick Up Artist gurus and their army of adoring acolytes is hilarious and tragic-comic by turns.
I highly recommend "The Game" to one and all. It is a marvellous insight into an underbelly of the singles/dating scene that I had no idea existed. I promise that reading it is the most fun you'll have with your clothes on this year!

I picked up this book along with Strauss' sequal how to book(s) "The Rules of the Game" with the intention of learning the secrets of the much discussed topic of this book, PUAs (otherwise known as Pickup Artists). What I got was something entirely different. This book is more or less Strauss' diary of events when he emersed himself into the PUA lifestyle. I was really suprised at the humor that Strauss directs at himself and his fellow nerdy PUAs who have turned socializing into something that seems more like computer programming. The terminology alone that these guys use really shows you what kind of life the majority of these guys lived before becoming PUAs (for the majority I envision nerdy computer programmers).
The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five is because I did a little research on the internet after reading this book and one of the main characters named Extramask (who is actually now a comedian named Barry Kirkey) stated that Strauss never met him in person or went to the seminars with him like is described in the book. If that is true than all I can say is that I am deeply disappointed as Extramask a.k.a Barry, was one of the funniest people that I have ever read about and I would lose a lot of respect if Neil actually just wrote down what people told him about Barry.
What's funny though is after reading this I don't think I would ever want to be a PUA. The majority of these guys are very superficial and are looking for superficial women to validate themselves. Still, I would recommend it to a friend, who would learn a thing or two about the community and get a good chuckle every chapter.

I like the occasional humorous burst and the smart comments here and there, but honestly, the tricks that are used in this "auto-biography" are a little extreme. I grabbed this book based off of a friend's recommendation for it being a good read of a different flavor and often times offering a comical approach and a certain "wow" factor of the author's transformation to a pick-up artist. About sex my favorite book is Sex and the Perfect Lover: Tao, Tantra, and the Kama Sutra

After watching a few episodes of the reality TV show The Pickup Artist, I decided to buy this book. I bought this one instead of Mystery's Method because Strauss wrote Jenna Jameson's autobiography which is in my mind excellent credentials. Still, my expectations were not really that high and I anticipated nothing more than a book filled with pickup lines or some sort of humorous dating guide. But The Game is much more than that. For starters, it reads like a story and has a fascinating plot and a diverse range of characters. Mystery is by far the most interesting character, but most of the other pickup artists are also entertaining to read about. The book begins with the author meeting Mystery and being introduced to a world he did not know existed, a place where guys without handsome looks or fat wallets can pickup hot women through technique and seduction. Mr. Strauss sets off on a journey where he transforms himself from a geeky writer to become one of the most talented pickup artists in the business. One of my favorite messages in the book is, "Don't be yourself, be your best self." This means you don't have to change who you are to pickup women, but you have to be willing to maximize your potential. This book is a great read and one that I will read again many times.

Although I enjoyed the Stlyleife Diaries, what was truly worth the money was the Stylelife challenge.
Why do all self help books always give you philosophical advice with no practical ways of incorporating it into your life?
This guide truly changed my dating life. It gives just enough theory while encouraging you to practice every day. It also doesn't allow you to skip ahead so you can learn in small chunks.
What keeps it from 5 stars is the fact that Neil essentially advertises his dating academy throughout the book which I thought ate into his integrity a bit.
Any man looking to improve his dating life should buy this ASAP.

Much less data than I expected.

I thought these books were going to be the size of the first book. Wrong. They are pocket-book size. So don't think you will have near the same amount to read as in the first book. These are about the size of a large postcard.

I have to be honest. I've read the book, I've understood the concept, but I'm still single. Not because the book doesn't work, but I know the end result SOLELY depends on myself. So I dare to say, Neil has given me the knowledge and wisdom on relationship through this book, but it ALL depends on you. People who gave this book less than 4 starts are probably fail to understand the concept and its applications. There are so many living proofs from his students. Congratulations Neil, you've changed the world to the better. Thumbs up big time!

I was looking for some answers with my current situation, and I found more than what I hoped for here. It struck a great number of familiar chords with both of us, and has true to life examples than any couple will relate to. This is a definite "must buy" book for any married couple.
Other excellent and unique book for relationships is I Love You. Now What?: Falling in Love is a Mystery, Keeping It Isn't

I think this is one of the best books that I have read on relationships in trouble. Principle 2 - Nurturing your fondness and admiration and Principle 6 - Overcoming Gridlock are worth the price of the book. The book contains a lot of tests and exercises most of which are very useful and insightful. The book assumes that both the husband and wife are trying to improve their marriage. It also works to some degree if only one person is working on the marriage.
The author does come accross in the first couple of chapters as arrogant but he tones it down in the remaining chapters. It is only slightly distracting.

I read this book back when I was unsure of the relationship between my husband to be and me. We had been together about 2 years. When we took the life goals questionnaire near the end of the book, I knew that he was the one for me! We had the same relationship goals we both wanted to actively strive for. It let us understand each other better as well. It thus changed my life, since I was more confident of the success of our relationship, and sure enough, 5 years later, we are blissfully happy together!

I purchased this book for a friend, but decided to read parts of it before relinquishing it. It is well written and easy to read. I love that it is for couples that are in the midst of turmoil or couples that have a pretty solid foundation. I am going to buy a copy for my fiance and me for a guideline when we get even more comfortable together!

My fiance and I hit a really rough patch. He was acting annoyed by my pressence, stopped wanting to be intimate and seemed tense and upset all the time.
So I made the "nice girl" mistake by trying to be perfect for him -- cooking these huge, elaborate, expensive dinners, making sure the house was spotless, buying him little presents, etc. Nothing worked. I was convinced he had fallen out of love with me or was cheating.
Out of desperation, I went to the bookstore and grabbed a stack of relationship books hoping for some insight. One of the ones I came across was, "Why Men Love Bitches".
I read the chapter on nagging and realized that I complained A LOT to my fiance about EVERYTHING over and over again. I saw myself in that chapter and learned how I was pushing him away and nagging makes a woman come across as needy and unappealing. Also, the author explained that nagging is ineffective with both men and women because it makes the person being nagged feel like the nagger is trying to control them
I bought the book and immediately followed the advice of that chapter. I took my nagging from a 10 to a .5 and gave my fiance a little space. I also stopped sweating the small stuff, like how normally I'd go off on him for leaving his boots in the bathroom
The next day, my fiance did most of the things I normally nagged him about without asking (ie: making the bed, washing dishes, feeding the dog). Then, he came home from work early for the first time in a month and cooked me dinner.
We were intimate twice the following night (HE intiated it for once, not me!) and his whole attitude toward me is more like it used to be when we first started dating.
So yeah, this book may have a flaw or two in some people's eyes, but to me it's what you make of it. I think the best thing to do is read it and motify the advice to fit your particular situation. Thats what I did and it has been working great for me.

I was going to start off saying I wish I had read this book sooner, before committing the nice girl mistakes in my past two relationships. But, if I hadn't gone through what I had gone through, I would have said the book's advice was crap - of course nice girls win. Which guy has not said he likes the girl-next-door type?
But now I know why the relationships went downhill the moment I went from independent woman to needy girlfriend. I gave up my needs and let my happiness and schedule revolve around the man. I now solemnly swear to be happy and confident regardless of whether I am alone or with a man. Only I can be responsible for my own happiness.
That said, one area that the book could be improved on is to give some advice on when a girl can give, albeit a little. Like when the guy waits too long to make his move, a little signal of interest could whet his appetite. Otherwise he may conclude the girl is not interested at all and give up.

Not necessarily bitchy is what men want, but they oddly enough don't like to walk all over their women. (Coulda fooled me!!). I'm working with this. Doesn't seem to make any difference in the men in my life if I kowtow to them or assert myself. If I kowtow I'm needy, if I'm assertive I'm a bitch. Basically it's telling me what I should have known all along. As women towards men, we are damned if we do, damned if we don't.

This is a MUST read for every girl!!! The title catches your attention but what's written in this book, every girl must follow. There are too many "nice" girls out there don't know the truth. And the truth is in this book. It says exactly how it is. It's not about being a bitch, but just holding your own. Two thumbs up!!!! :)

I have mixed emotions about this book. I wanted to give it two and a half stars, but since that can't be done, I very fairly gave it three.
Yes, I agree we women should not allow ourselves to be doormats to the man in our lives. I also believe that we shouldn't be with a guy who would treat us that way in the first place. It's about respect, and if you truly love someone and they you, there'll be mutual respect there.
Why Men Love Bitches seems to be a book about how to play games with men. Not something I really agree with. I don't want to be taken for granted by my man, but I don't want to have to always be a challenge to him either. If the relationship seems like too much constant hard work, is he really going to think it's worthwhile hanging around? I don't think so.
While no one should be a doormat or be taken for granted in a relationship, I don't believe relationships should be based on playing games either - Not those types of games. It was an interesting book to read, but there are others on the subject I like better.

Now that the word is out, is this book worth buying? A year ago, I felt so. Like many others, I bought it with the intent of discovering the secret formula to meeting new people, especially those I don't normally approach.
The Mystery Method (MM) outlines beautifully the Attraction, the Comfort and the Seduction and stresses you have to practice them in that order. If done correctly, the 'Target', as she is called, will not know she is being picked up. The nightclub setting scenarios are only good if you happen to be a bar-fly. While Mystery, no doubt, experienced numerous rejections and learned through trial and error what worked, the only value MM has now is it's an entertaining read.
Presently, I can vouch that MM will make you a better friend, coworker, and even more interesting to those you don't know, but it won't help you find love. There's no secret formula for that. When you meet someone, there's either an instant connection or there isn't.
Read or listen to it for entertainment value only, but don't take it too seriously.

This book was decent. I like some of the techniques, such as learning how to tell stories effectively, body language, establishing an identity, being interesting, etc. But, I can tell this is directed towards socially inept types, guys that have zero social skills. If you are a confident MAN, with a life that you are passionate about, you should do fine with women.
But most of the people that read PUA material dont want to hear that. They want the quick fix . They wanna learn techniques, or the latest opener to help them "score" with a women. Do you really think in order to get the girl, you must DHV and then NEG her, while simutaneously charming her friends? The game really isnt that serious. There are so many easier ways to meet women, the best way being through a mutual friend.
However, with all that being said, I think this book is worth the read. It has good information on social dynamics and on cold approaching. The read can get kinda dry and informative, like reading a scientific journal on rainforest plants. Also, its kinda complicated, because he has so many terms to learn. Still, it can help you become a better improv speaker, as well as approaching strangers effectively.

Before counselor Harville Hendrix, Ph.D. teaches you how to improve your relationship, he asks you to think about why you were attracted to your partner in the first place. The answer, he explains, is that you were looking for a mate who possesses the same basic qualities as your parents. Why? Because people subconsciously seek relationships with those who will exorcise their childhood pain. Unfortunately, most people tend to reopen - as opposed to healing - these wounds in their adult liaisons, leading to the "power struggle" that ensues in many relationships. Hendrix and his wife, Dr. Helen Lakelly Hunt, say that the way out of this destructive cycle is to practice the tenants of "Imago Relationship Therapy," which they created. Their therapeutic approach includes making a true, lifelong commitment, treating each other in a loving manner, learning how to communicate constructively and eliminating negativity from your relationship. You may well find some benefits in the Imago approach even if you don't fully buy Hendrix's basic parent-seeking premise. The authors have trained some 2,000 therapists to use this approach, although Part III offers solid exercises you can do yourself. If you are seeking a relationship self-help book that discusses how to avoid getting hurt, how to deepen your communication and how to build a long-term connection, getAbstract recommends this bestseller.
