I bet there are many more women like me that weren't taught the ins and outs of the courtship process as shared by Dr. Paul in this enlightening and easy-to-read book. Yes, I've read and heard about boundaries and have worked on them for the past 15 years as I became aware of my childhood issues and what needed to be healed. But the way Dr. Paul explains how boundaries come into play within the context of our love relationships, makes it so much more clear and makes me realize why relationships fail or make it. Being somewhat analytical, I also love the way Dr. Paul has identified the three phases of the process two people go through and gives insights about men that I've never considered before. Wow! I learned a lot and I love this book!

what a great book!if you want real help finding the right man, this book is for you.the author includes tests to use on men to see if they're right for you.he gives the reader a "roadmap" that relationships should travel if they are to be sucessful.if you're a fan of sex in the city, there's a section that will blow your mind.he attaches a "type"to each of the four women and explains how all women fall into one of those types.then he explains which type of man is your best compliment.i learned real tools not just the same b.s like most other dating books.
Excellent - Explains not only relationships, but how we each grow emotionally

I found this book to be very interesting, it provided insight into the male mind, and how women should behave during the different phases of courtship, so that you can build a friendship & emotional bond. It also provided examples of red flags & when we should run! It explains the process of how we mature emotionally; the different levels of maturity. (I found several men I've dated in the past to be at the "Reptilian" or "Emotional" stage at best.) It provided advice on how to be more emotionally mature, and how to handle stress/anxiety, etc. and the characteristics we each need to achieve first before we can move on to have a nice, lasting relationship. The diagrams in the book weren't useful to me, and often the explanations were repeated several times, but overall this is an excellent book if you really want to understand the psychology behind how we all think. Definitely not one of those "fluff" books on how to 'snag' a man!

I think many of a man would benefit tremendously from such a book, because it would help us figure out what's a better way to deal with a woman as a woman and not trying to deal with a woman as a man. Of course, it is hard to really distinguish males from females in terms of thinking. I think from what I read the extremely feminine woman that he describes who changes too much with the wind would not be my cup of tea. I've been with one like that, and things are too predictable. I prefer my woman to be more of a straight shooter. She can have her moods, be typical in many ways, but I think I prefer males or females I am dealing with to show consistency rather than simply changing based on feelings. I am a planner, and it is hard to plan if someone changes like the North Texas weather. Many women are not like that, but this is definitely a useful book for us males to respect women for how they and how they are different and to honor those differences while keeping our respect and sanity as males.

This book and seminar lays out material on how to be the best man you can be. If this was required reading half of the failed relationships out there would either work themselves out or be cut off too early to be a problem. If men took the responsibility to understand themselves and how women view their actions we would all be much happier. Instead we can't understand our women and flounder until finally nobody is happy and we break up or divorce. David Deida lays out, in simple terms, how men can understand and even revel in the emotional storm that women are. This manual can not be recommended highly enough.

Ugh, what a load of bull. How do people keep making money off the tired old "men are *active*, women *receptive* stereotypes? People are people, and Deida is a jerk who sees women as subhuman.

I bought this for my boyfriend because the book completely transformed his life. He really loves the additional things Deida covers in the sessions, and he likes being able to listen to it while he's driving or working. He's made a lot of personal discoveries with it, and says that there is something different about hearing a human voice that drives some of the points home. Plus, Deida elaborates in the sessions, and can give it an even more personal touch.

Being that I am in a long distance relationship right now I found this book to be very helpful. I know that I have a strong relationship however, I wanted to read this book to get some reassurance as well as some helpful hints to make my relationship even better. I found it nice that he provided boxes throughout the chapter that reaffirmed the things that he was saying so that I can now go back and reference something it will be easier to find it. I found this book overall well written. The one downfall for my self is that I would have liked to have talked a little bit more about same-sex relationships as that is what I am in. However, other than that it was very helpful.

This book had a lot of helpful tips...but it didn't really captivate me. Also, I felt like I had to have my partner with me in order to complete the activities in the book, which is a little difficult if you are in a long-distance relationship. If you are both setting out on your first LDR then this is probably a good book for you, but if one or both of you already have been in an LDR, you probably don't need this one.

Many of the kisses described in this book you learned when you were less than 17. There are a few that spark the imagination but not that many. Since it did not cost much you really cant go that wrong because even if you learn only one new kiss or become better at a few then is will be worth the price you pay.

The book was bought as a gag gift for a friend who just turned 21 and has never been kissed. I had a chance to read through the book and found it not to be what I was wanting, but for her it would do. I thought it was supposed to be about the art of kissing. I am still on a mission to find a book that is completely about ways to kiss. Now don't get me wrong this book has some tips on kissing, but this only accounts for a very small partial amount of the book.

How do you turn a complete amateur into a confident kisser? Read this book, that's how. I got it the summer before I started college. I never dreamed I'd have the confidence that a lot of my roommates seemed to have, but after reading this wonderful book I was a different person. I wasn't dreading kissing, I was actually looking forward to it. You learn not only all the different kisses - there are about 35 - but you also learn what the opposite sex likes and dislikes about each one. I'm now happily in a relationship, and my boyfriend tells me I'm the best kisser ever. (I taught him the Trobriand Islands kiss!) My sorority sisters are always borrowing my copy of this book, they get such a kick out of it.

There is really not much to this book. It's not very innovative or inspiring. The advice is fairly bland. Pretty much about the same type of information that you might find in a magazine, which is not surprising when you learn that the author wrote for Cosmo.
It's fine but not that interesting if you are even remotely adventurous although, as a woman I found that it had some good instruction on going down on women, the male instructional was not revelatory. Perhaps more for those who have been together for a long time and are looking for some tips that aren't too randy or out of the comfort zone. I won't be keeping this one or making it the subject of any recommendations.

I thought this book was great for giving some ideas to things we already do and ways to set the mood, but I wish there could have been more discussion on positions and less emphasis on oral sex. It gave some perspective of what the other person is thinking and touched on the issue of insecurities - all material was presented in an easy to read fashion. My favorite feature was that my sweaty hands didn't warp the pages :) This was a good brief overview book and a quick read.

Once again another pictorial book about sex that thinks it can `pull it off' without showing genitals, much less penetration. I'd hate to see what some of these Authors would produce if they were assigned to write an Operating Procedure for driving a car, shooting a gun, skinning a kangaroo or even playing golf.
I can't find a place for this book. If my kids wanted to learn about sex positions and variations I think I'd sooner watch pornos with them and then have to explain the sanctity of sex and put it in a healthy perspective after that than to try to flick through something like this with them. This is no worse than lots of things out there and in fact better than some. My problem is that I believe sex is absolute intimacy, body fluids, lust ferocity and, ideally, the ultimate expression of Love Trust and Unity with abandon. When it gets to being a sterile, emotionless chore, like a dance or gymnastics class I reckon I'll be off to join the priesthood.
Bless you my children!!!!

Clearly, I can't tell you what I learned from this book. I will ask my girlfriend to write in though... Anyway, C. W. Gentry's books are easily read, embarrassment-free and down to earth. They deal with topics most people feel uncomfortable talking about in a way that makes them seem perfectly routine. What men need to understand about women is that they all want sex too, they just go about it differently! This book should help to reduce the differences between myth and reality, and is based on real interviews with real men.

Obviously, the authors can't tell you what YOUR man wants in bed. But this book is an excellent insight into what men in general want from sex and say about sex. The surveys ask about everything, and the graphs and charts are a quick and easy way to see what the MAJORITY of men prefer. I found it really helpful and interesting.

So many books of this kind seem to leave the biblical testimony and instead focus on extrabiblical data. For conservatives, this is not a very good approach, as the Bible is our only source of absolute truth. This book does a good job of staying on point, and examining the Scriptures through a logical, and sound exegetical approach to interpretation and application. I'm very glad to have purchased this book, and will recommend it to many others.
As one reviewer stated, there is a fear in the latter portions of the book that the authors espouse an overall nullification of any part of the Scriptures that may require any changes or challenges to the individual. But, a careful reading of the authors' perspectives lead to the conclusion of this reader that they do not advocate a relativistic approach to interpretation, but rather, one that is as closely related to Jesus' own approach as can be.
All in all, a very good book. Read it for what it says, and not for what it doesn't, and you'll be fine.

The most unique quality of this book is the chapter "Finding Affirmation in Scripture." While many authors (including myself) focus on the passages that are often misused to condemn homosexuality, Rev. Jeff Miner and John Tyler Connoley go one step further and examine the often overlooked passages where the Bible speaks of same-sex couples in a positive light. I highly recommend this to anyone who has a sense that the Bible doesn't condemn loving, committed, monogamous relationships, but wants to know if it says anything positive.

This book was a Godsend for me.
Very well written by a very talented writer.
It sure hit home for me and was very helpful to our marriage.
Keep up the good work Micheal and Debbie.
The fruit of your work is evident in your own family of happy,
well adjusted adult children raising happy , well adjusted children who
are loved and cherished and in all the restored marriages your writings
have brought about

The author presents some valid points. Conservative Christians have often considered sex as a purely reproductive function, deemphasizing the pleasurable aspects of it. Michael Pearl brings out the fact that sex is not just for reproduction, but for pleasure as well.
The first third or so of the book is an exegesis of Song of Solomon. It is definitely not one of the best exegeses of that book, but it is still useful. I think Pearl is correct in seeing the book as primarily a story about Solomon and his lover. However, there are different interpretative outlines that other commentators have produced, and they should be explored.
The last two thirds of the book is Pearl's discussion of various aspects about sex, some of which are tied directly to Song of Solomon, some of which are not. In this section, the writing is rough, not well thought out, unscientific, and wrong in some areas. It seems as though he writes ideas that he just thought of, without first studying Scripture to see if it supports those ideas. Pearl also seems rather prideful and judgmental. If others do not hold his views, or do the things he thinks are wrong, they are condemned. He also seems prideful about his sexual experience.
Most of all, the writing is lacking in grace. As I mentioned, pride and judgment are present in the pages. He does have a section where he mentions Jesus and forgiveness, but Jesus/grace is not ever-present in this writing. The book reads like Pearl's interpretation of God's laws on sex, and condemns those who do not follow it. It makes me sad.
Even if Pearl's interpretation of God's law on sex is correct, Jesus and mercy are not emphasized. John 8 is a good foil to this reading.

This isn't so much a 'bad' book as it is inferior to several other excellent books by authors with far better backgrounds in scriptural study and relationship counseling. Pearl's examination of the Song of Solomon is generally accurate as far as it goes, but his ability to "mine" for insight is weak. If you are looking for a book that will enrich your relationship, I recommend "Love Life" by Ed Wheat, or "The Book of Romance: What Solomon Says About Love, Sex and Intimacy" by Tommy Nelson. Both authors, especially Nelson, offer a much more qualified and far more insightful view of the Song of Solomon.
When not discussing the S.o.S., Pearl loses ground even further; he apparently has only his personal marriage experience to draw on. Also, frankly, many of his comments are crude, and some of his translations of other scriptures are patently false. Beyond that, Pearl offers his own opinion as a statement of moral truth several times in the novel, with no scriptural backing. He's just not that talented of an author.

I enjoyed this book but know the Pearls are always in your face blunt, I agree with 95% of what they say and as long as you can take from this book the things that are helpful and wonderful to you and move on with out taking offence to what you don't like then you too will enjoy this.

No matter what you think of this book, do NOT give money to these people. They are sick child abusers. Read the reviews of other books they have written.

Open a random page of this book and you are almost certain to read language or descriptions of behaviors that are completely inappropriate for the age group. The language is foul, the situations adult. And I mean _every_ page. Page 174: "u made her glue marshmallows to her nipples?" Page 110: "actually I was wearing my Vandy sweatshirt and I wasn't wearing a bra underneath." And on, and on, and on. This book has no redeeming value what so ever.

TTYL is a book about three girls, Angela, Maddie and Zoe talking with each other by instant messages. They are in high school and are best friends. There is a huge conflict with Angela; she is moving. Is that going to ruin their friendship? Then Maddie gets in trouble and is grounded. Then Zoe gets in trouble and grounded and the only one is Angela who has nothing to do because she moved and thinks she has no friends or life anymore! I thought the book was very good! I read it over a weekend and a break! I started reading it at night and I almost finished it because it was such a page turner! You can't put it down! I'm so glad I convinced my mom to buy both books, TTYL and TTFN. Now I see that there is and sequel to both of them called l8r, g8r. If you like books about boys, girl fighting and ACTION, then this is the book for you! It is not boring at all! I loved both books!

They author have figured out that sex sells, especially to young teen girls. She concocts this IM narrative to capitalize on the trendiness of this mode of communication. The first book was dedicated to "the beer boys". uh, her intended audience is 12-16 year old girls. Hmm, I wonder if this is dedicated to "Rufus, her favorite drug dealer." or "The Ecstacy girls". I know these are real issues not to be avoided but to be brought out into the open. But glamorizing drug use, teen sex etc, is just irresponsible and exploitative. But I am surprised that she hasnt gotten sponsors like Trojan, Budweiser, and the like to boost profits.

I bought this book for my daughter only after asking the salesgirl in the store if it was appropriate for a 12 year old, I was assured it was. Last night my daughter came up to me and asked what a bl*wjob was. Apparently this is discussed in the book. Needless to say she will NOT be reading anymore books by this author or in this series

Just because some kids do drugs, swear, and have sex does not mean we need to glorify those for all kids. Didn't find anything redeeming enough in the book to pass it on to any teens. It went in the recycling. Hopefully it will do more good made into something else.
I don't like giving a bad review - but felt inclined to in this case.

Very good book for single male and females,Alot fo useful information, however i feel the book is written toward the womens perspecive of dating rather then the male (dont forget a women wrote the book). She lists the dos and dont's for soul mates but the reality is that very few of us have all those traits. Dont expect perfection whether its personalty, looks, money, career, interets, etc. Also, it tells the stories of women circusmtances before. I've read better.
Very informative and fun reading!!

I have read several books on relationships and I must say, 'Excuse Me, Your Soul Mate is Waiting' is one of the best. Marla makes a number of key observations that are bang on. The examples she cites are very powerful and each chapter concludes with helpful "exercises". As a matchmaker, the author has a unique perspective and peppers the book with anecdotes and insights from her years matching males and females. She does a good job of appealing to both men and women (although she uses slightly more female examples.
Good, straightforward, capable advice

Marla gives the impression that she knows what she's talking about, and hasn't spent all this time in the matchmaking business without gleaning some valuable advice to pass along. In a field where most think about what they can get, Marla reminds us that, though it is important to have a clear picture of what we want, it's also important to think about what we can give. Her friendly style makes this a pleasure to read!

I loved this book. It was so encouraging and inspiring. If you've dated a gazillion frogs, this book will give you hope. The author's style is conversational and easy to read. I plan to write some of the affirmations on cards and refer to them often. Marla Martenson has written a book on relationships that feels hopeful, but realistic. You'll love this book.
