Especially if you are like me- the professional "Commitmentphobe Trainer" you know, the guy says he doesn't want to ever get married, breaks up with you, marries next girl he dates, happily every after- for him anyway.

Subtly- and not so subtly- abusive

I tried to read through the whole book- really, I did- but it felt like I was continually getting a shot to the stomach just for being a woman. I asked my fiance to take a look at this book. He laughed and said he had met guys like this in college; really smart guys who had trouble getting a date and who blamed it on the women. He suggested I throw it out, but I'm going to take the book next to a female therapist (Dr. of Psychology) I know, and see what she says.

Very Enlightening

I've been reading a number of relationship books recently to help me to have a better relationship and a greater understanding of men especially. This book really helped me to do that. It helps the reader to understand the different personality types, indentify which type you are and how you can avoid doing things in a relationship that gets a negative response from your male partner. I really enjoyed this book and it has helped me enormously.

I also recommend reading.

"Women Men Love, Women Men Leave" is a thoughtful exploration of the inherent differences between men and women. It not only identifies and explores the emotional gender divide, it also offers practical, user-friendly behavioral modifications that, when employed, can help couples re-establish solid footing in a previously "rocky" relationship. The authors display remarkable insight into why men and women perceive each other quite differently, and how this perceptual disparity is more often than not the underlining factor in a relationship malaise.

Written in plain, straightforward, English, "Women Men Love, Women Men Leave," avoids the pitfalls of many similar texts, by communicating its ideas authoritatively, while avoiding even the hint of condescension. There is also an enlightening set of quizzes located in the book's Appendix. These brief self-examinations help readers reflect upon their own attitudes and identify potential problem areas within their character makeup that may adversely affect their relationships with the significant men in their lives. All-in-all, this book is a must-read for anyone searching to strengthen their understanding of how to engage in a successful and mutually-rewarding male/female relationship.

After a painful break-up I was left with many questions. And this book has answered them all. Things I/he said/done that puzzeled me, have now found meaning and understanding. I might even say I was clueless about men until I read this book. I understand now that what I thought was a good relationship was anything but, thanks to this book. The first part (women men leave) gave me a lot of insight into my behavior and his reaction to that. I found myself in some greater or lesser extent in each portrait of common women behavior that can end a relationship. The authors explain in structured and simple way what men want from relationships and how they behave. Another helpful book that I highly recommend is How to Snag a Guy and Keep Him Hooked: 99 Ways to Make Him Ache for You If you want to spare yourself a lot of heartbreaks in the future read both books!

For those only interested in this book because of the SATC movie the letter varies slightly. I'm not sure that many people know that it is a great mystery whom the "immortal beloved" is referring to by Beethoven. There are many theories about who "immortal beloved" is and there is even a movie about it...but no one knows. I love that. I love to read that letter and I feel like I am given a brief glimpse into someone's secret heart and I wonder how she felt about him.

I bought this book because I am getting married and wanted to find a romantic, moving reading for the ceremony. And, of course, like many other women who saw the Sex and the City Movie, fell in love with the poetry Mr. Big "uses." This book is not at all what I hoped for or wanted. I must admit that maybe my expectations were not realistic...as I think I was expecting to find stuff right out of the movie (ain't gonna happen). Yes, the letters are full of love...but are often quite depressing as well. If you like history and such...the history of old love is defined by separation for months, etc. That is documented here. I guess for my purposes...it missed the mark. Out of the entire book, I found one segment I truly liked and will most likely use. However, I think I could have come up with something else and saved my money.

Wonderful collection of love letters. The book itself is beautiful with the old fashioned quill and rose on the front cover. The interior is just as pretty. The names appear to be calligraphy, but it's regular print.

I was especially excited to see the letters are the originals. They are not put in modern terms.

I'm going to have to order another one since my friend borrowed it and she won't bring it back to me.

The cover of this book caught my eye. I was not familiar with Amy Cohen, but I am glad to know of her after reading The Late Bloomer's Revolution. I enjoyed this book to a certain degree. I know it is biographical for her, but it just never seemed to keep my attention too long. It was well written and very humorous, but I had a hard time staying focused after a chapter or 2. It was also very sad in some parts..and having lost my mom at a young age, I could relate, but part of me just wanted her to "get" happy and move on with life. I would recommed this to anyone who likes to read about being single and dating. If you are looking for an upbeat lite read, this is not it.

I absolutely loved this book;the authors writing is be both insightful and funny, a marvelous combination. I listened to the book at work and found myself cackling aloud almost one time a page. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves the character of Liz Lemon in 30 Rock, Woody Allen, or Sex and the City.

Sorry this review isn't very good but I am not a review writer. I am a prolific reader but never, even if I loved it, feel moved to write a review but I want to add my vote to all the other people saying "Read this book!"

I love this book. I very much identify with Amy's struggles, her triumphs and her challenges in this book. I laughed (at times, quite loudly, and repeatedly) and cried with her, nodded my head and said, "So true!" a few times as well. I was skeptical when I purchased it, because from reading the back cover, I thought that it would be the promise of yet another insightful book that failed to deliver; that the author claimed to know all about the "Late Bloomers", and actually knew nothing. This book knocks it out of the park. If you're a "Late Bloomer", buy it. Now. Then, go back and buy copies for your friends who AREN'T "Late Bloomers" so that they can "get it".

I highly recommend this book for anyone trying to live through infidelity. I have read several books and this one had so much helpful information. It was written in a way that didn't attack the participating party or the injured party but gave good information for all parties involved. Unfortunately my spouse chose not to read the book with me but reading it really helped me to understand and validate what I was going through. If you are faced with the heartbreak of infidelty this is a must read book. If you don't read anything else, read this.

This is a great book for both partners in the damaged marriage. It uses non-offensive terms to refer to each of the involved parties. It provides very good strategies and examples for coping with the initial stages after the affair is discovered, as well as for working on repairing the marital relationship. It is particularly helpful with suggesting ways for each individual as well as the couple to reflect on why the affair occurred, to deal with emotional reactions, and to communicate with each other going forward. I have read several books, and this is one of the top two or three.

Great for both sides. Cheaters need help too!

This book is amazing. I bought this book after a six month relationship suddenly ended, and not by me! I was suffering so badly from a broken heart I thought for sure I would die!I had a huge support system but nothing would snap me out of my funk. Amazingly, after reading only half of the book,I felt so much better! Every question, scenario and fantasy you have in your head when you are in mourning is answered in here. It's to the point , comforting , funny and empowering. I highly recommend this book if you are dwelling on a broken relationship and wasting your time on the jerk who left you.

I read recently this while going through a break up, and have since recommended it to all my friends. I was depressed over my break up and this book helped me through it. It's geared towards women/girls who have been dumped (though there's some in there about if you did the dumping.) There are workbook sections at the end of chapters. The book reminds you that you are a good person who will probably find someone who appreciates you, and now you are free to find that person. 5 stars.

Not what I expected

Review Date: 2008-07-11
Not what I expected... Instead of making me feel better, it made me feel worse! When your heart is broken, the last thing you want to hear is "it's called a break up because it's broken" and "move on already!" said to you over and over again, as if it were as simple as making a sandwich!
Instead of bringing the focus on yourself, and dealing gently with your heart and with pain in a constructive way, it brings more focus on the partner who "dumped" you, and what "loser" or "[...]" he is for doing this to a "super fox" (eesh!) like yourself. I highly doubt that building hate or frustration this way is of any good, just as I doubt that numerous break-up stories should make you feel better. It's the last thing you want to hear when your heart is aching. In those moments, you'd want to deal with the pain and understand the situation, and maybe being encouraged that there are wonderful men out there, that would love to be with someone like you!

this is an amazing book. read it. it changed my views on sex. i never realized how culture effects our views on thing like this. There is a lot of internal searching and discovering. this book is great at pointing out the wrong ideas we have about sex, as women, and then shows you how to address them. Thats the hard part. I would re-read.

I'm glad its finally ok for the christian culture to talk about these important subjects in the right light.

I use this book in working with couples planning to marry or when couples struggle, and they ALWAYS find answers. Gottman's style is respectable and accessible for "everyman," while still maintaining heady content for professionals. I recommend it for couples looking to learn better fighting styles and communication patterns, for pastors and professionals who work with couples in trouble, and for people trying to set the rules before they actually play the game. Great text!

John Gottman is a respected expert on relationships who has done extensive research with married couples over the past two decades to determine why couples stay together or part. Although Gottman's book is about marriage, it also has some excellent insights for understanding some of the important dynamics of long-term courting relationships. The book provides many exercises, quizzes, techniques and tips to understand and improve courting relationships.

Gottman notes that his years of research show that a lasting marriage results from a couple's ability to resolve the conflicts that are inevitable in any relationship. He also notes that there are three different styles of conflict resolution that healthy couples usually adopt. They are: the validating marriage (couples compromise and calmly work out their problems attempting to satisfy both people), the conflict-avoiding marriage (couples agree to disagree and rarely confront issues head on), and the volatile marriage (couples conflict often and the results are passionate disputes).

John Gottman also discusses what he calls "The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse." These are the dangerous ways of interacting that sabotage attempts to communicate. They are criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling.

Well written and informative, Gottman's research has uncovered some worthwhile and thought provoking ideas on long-term relationships. Understanding these concepts can be helpful when trying to understand oneself and when exploring long-term compatibility with a companion.

I found many useful concepts throughout the book. Overall a powerful work on strenthening relationships!

We are getting ready to put this book into practice. There is a lot of history included, and it is interesting and well written. When you finally get to the method, it is easy to follow and well outlined. At 36 I learned a lot more about my body and how my cycles work by reading this book. With my second child I had to follow chart my BBT and it never really worked well since my cycles seemed so irregular. This book made it clear what to look for and I found out my ovulation is not as irregular as I had thought. So after two boys, we are almost ready to start trying for baby number three. I would love to have another healthy baby... but it would be nice if we had a girl. Be very careful to understand, you should want another baby - boy or girl- and this book may aid in tipping the scales toward one or the other. We will see...

Each time I pick it up I find something new that I hadn't noticed the last time I read it. The imagination whirls wondering about the writers and the recipients. It's the perfect Valentines Day!
