I bought this for my girlfriend that just went through a devastating break up. It didn't automatically erase her hurt but it definitely brought a smile to her face...and helped with the healing process.

A must for any broken heart!!

I admit I have not yet finished reading this one, but for any girl who has just had her heart smashed to pieces I thoroughly recommend it!!! Has some great advice for getting through rough patches, some tips and a bit of humour to help cheer you up!!! And most of all encourages you to look after yourself which is not foremost on our minds when we are hurt and miserable!!! This book is a lifesaver!!!

A good book - a fun read!

A good companion to this book is The BreakUp Workbook - a commonsense guide to getting over your ex. While Delphine really does a lot to help you to get through the days and nights, there's no interaction. Go to brokenheartedgirl.com and sign into the forum so you can speak with other broken hearted girls. While you're at it, you might like to purchase The BreakUp Workbook - which will also help you get through the days & nights.

I bought this book because I thought it would be a funny look at how to deal with a breakup. The cover certainly inspired me.

Unfortunately, while this book is not horrible, there is nothing new in here. The humour is limited and the advice is standard. Pretty basic stuff.

I bought this book as a gag gift for a friend of mine. After glancing through it I kept it for myself. I want my Wife to read it but I don't want her getting too many ideas or too wise to me. For the people who have been married a number of years and whose marriage is filled with humor, this is a good laugh romp. Some Truth and some tongue in cheek humor. It tells you to not take life too seriously. A very Funny Book.

Barry continues being one of my favorite. His approach to human marriage relationships is no doubt almost a law (a little bit exagerated, maybe). Chapters 6 7 8 and were my favorites. I've just married and it was sort of an x-ray of my situation, except by the fact that have always believed in what he precisely satirizes: we don't need to spend a fortune in a full-of-critics-and-unpleasant people-that will not help you solve your infinite problem-night. His statements I think are of an almost universal reality. The only inconvenient for us latin american readers are perhaps the local jokes He is very serious (I'm not kidding)in telling us: Life is very simple and worth enjoying! Why screwing it up?

If you've made it to that chapter (Chapter 4) without laughing so hard you have beverages coming out of your nose, please check your pulse. You may already be dead.

Anyone who has ever read a Dave Barry article can appreciate his incredibly dry wit and hilarious sense of humor. Barry always seems to capture subjects that are serious, but manages to put a funny twist on them. Not only does he nail the concept of marriage AND/OR sex in this book, but the illustrations by Jerry O'Brien are the perfect compliment. The outrageous diagrams on "How to French Kiss" remind me of my life just last week, er, I mean high school.

This book is loaded with helpful tips for both men and women. For instance, Barry feels that the best bet for a new bride on how to get along with her mother-in-law is drugs. If only more people could read this book!

This book has something in it for everyone. If you are about to get married, the chapter entitled "How to Have a Perfect Wedding No Matter What" will definately come in handy. Of course, those of you already married, chapters "How to Argue Like a Veteran Married Couple" and "Children: Big Mistake or Bad Idea?" will, most definately, be of interest.

Barry's book is a fairly quick read, and would make a nice addition to anyone's book collection, if not for the mere fact that it is a great conversation piece. Any fan of Dave Barry will love it, and if you live on another planet, and have never heard of him, this is a great book to start with. You can't help but laugh!

Forty years of heterosexual living did not prepare me for the dilemma of discerning IS IT A DATE OR JUST COFFEE when I started dating women. Well, perhaps dating was too strong a word since it always seems to turn out to be coffee. When straight gals meet straight guys, they know what to expect. With gay-gal dating, they seem to be showering together before reaching a consensus as to whether or not they are friends or something more. Fortunately, Mo Brownsey takes some of the confusion out gay-gal dating with her wonderful book.

From being single, relationships, breakups and mourning, Brownsey covers it all. Need help identifying the dreaded lesbian bed death? Not sure if it's lust or love? Considering multiple partner relationships? Mo supplies the answers along with tongue-in-cheek comedy that will keep you howling with laughter no matter where you are concerning gay-gal relationships. I admit to suffering from STD myself (Sexually Transmitted Denial). For gals like me who find themselves in the midst of redefining their sexuality, and refuse to take the whole dating thing too seriously, Mo Brownsey's book is the definitive answer for the basics of gay-gal dating. Her comedic approach to relationships, breakups, recovery and sex is an indispensable guide for those new to this lifestyle as well as gay-gals who've always know that they weren't straight but love a good laugh. Indeed, straight or lesbian, all women will find themselves in this remarkably astute book. IS IT A DATE OR JUST COFFEE earns the WordWeaving Award for Excellence.

Great book, but - ugh! - that cover!

First of all, I would just like to say that the REAL cover of this book is much more appealing. Softer colors and an oh-so-hot photo of the author sipping coffee while gently tensing her gym biceps. That image alone should make you want to buy this book. However, there is much much more to be gleaned from actually reading it. Ms. Brownsey's advice is sage, her tone witty and her anecdotes are like a page from all our lives. A great X-mas gift for your single lesbian friends.

Lighten up while you smarten up in this crazy sea of love!

A step by step guide to "gay girls" dating, sex and romance. Just broke up or got dumped? You need this book, because good advice is better served with a side dish of laughs.

Mo Brownsey, long time comedian and lesbian studies college professor writes a humor filled book, packed with information lesbian and bisexual women really need. Speaking from vast experience, she starts right out with sage `after-breakup' advice: Take her number off the speed dial! Then deftly covers: baby dykes (yes, they're too young for you), on-line dating (why it frequently doesn't work), the L-word (love), polyamory (not for Mo) and a host of other topics.

Brownsey is the kind of friend who'd not only grab you by the lapels and exclaim, "Snap out of it!" But she'd explain how over pizza until you felt better. If don't have a friend like that, get this book.

"Is It A Date Or Just Coffee" was a hilarious trip through the confusing and sometimes neurotic gay girl dating scene. Mo uses her singular gift of humor to make the lesbian dating game less awkward and daunting. With chapters like "Blind Date: Think Hunters and Ducks" you know your in for a comic treat! I laughed and cried with Mo over the dating disasters and triumphs. An absoulte must for the newly "out" - it will help calm your nerves.

This book is interesting and keeps your attention the whole way through! At first I was kind of irritated at the author for not giving Olivier, the cute French guy a chance. But then towards the end of the book she starts to realize she has to let things flow and not try to control them. She seems to feel more at home in America than in Europe and starts to unwind a bit and then she falls in love! She planned her dates with no down-time at the beginning and therefore was grumpy all the time! It makes you realize how important it is to always have time for yourself alone otherwise you can't enjoy things no matter how nice they are. Better to travel to one spot and stay a while than to always be on the move and tired.
Great book!

I love reading people's true life accounts of their world travels - I can't afford them right now, so the next best thing is to savour the delight of living vicariously through English workaholics who take six months off work (as travel writers) to go off searching for their soulmate!

It's a unique sort of mission, which makes for an enjoyable read. The author, Jennifer, obviously enjoyed herself and did some soul-searching as well as soul-mate searching.

This chick lit-cum-travel log will please those who like some romance in their travel stories and some travel in their romance!

I really enjoyed this book, I love dating books, especially the one of true accounts, in diary form, and traveling out side the U.S. in search of love. This book was fast moving most of the story, but I take my hat off to anyone who is willing to follow even chase after their dreams no matter how far it takes them, it's very inspirational. The other books that I found very much alike were ... "The Bridget Jones Diary" and "The Dream Begins When I Awake."

A+ for bravery and positive thinking

Jennifer Cox could not find love in workaholic London. With contacts worldwide as a PR person for the Lonely Planet travel guidebooks, she sets out to find Mr. Right by sending out a casting call for dates, and ends up with 80 all told.

As others have pointed out, she doesn't date outside her race, barring a mixed Thai-Italian man. This beautiful man is actually a model, but no sparks fly.

Everyone is entitled to their tastes, but this racial restriction seems a bit staid, and amazing for a traveler. Guess her network of Date Wranglers was somewhat restricted in who they recommended to her, consciously or unconsciously?

Among her Caucasian dates, she actually meets Mr. Right. After agonizing about what to do, she decides to continue her journey, and then appears to meet a second Mr. Right, a wonderful American pilot working in New Zealand.

While this causes Cox emotional consternation, it fascinated me as a reader. TWO Mr. Rights in the space of fewer than 80 dates? This needs to be announced to every workaholic woman discouraged by her dating scene.

Cox seems to be a one-woman demography and mating experiment, demonstrating that the very real man shortage for women in their 30s and older in Western cities can be foiled by determination, a sense of adventure, a winning personality, and the willingness to expand one's horizons. Even women without the budget to date men on four continents can take a page from Cox's book to find love on less costly or extensive adventures.

Would especially recommend this book as about 10 times better than the comparable "The Year of Yes" (the author similarly takes control of her dating situation by being positive, and with a good result, but oh the drecky guys she wastes time with on the way) and "My 1,000 Americans: A year-long odyssey through the personals," which is far more depressing as author Rochelle Morton meets loads of narcissistic and married men. I suppose the lesson here is that Cox was wise to rely on her date wranglers, while Morton did far worse using the personal ads.

I'm sure Cox could have found a Londoner as Mr. Right -- had they met each other traveling! A relationship counselor told me once that romance and passion require time, which no one in a demanding job has. Hence the link between travel and romance.

Have you ever wondered where in the world your soulmate might be hiding? Maybe the reason you haven't met him yet is that he doesn't share you zip code? In fact, he may not even share your continent!

In this poignant, witty, exposed memoir, Jennifer Cox attempts to answer these questions for herself. At 38, still single, a trail of failed relationships looming behind her, this editor and PR manager for Lonely Planet decides to set out from her native London on a round-the-world voyage to locate Mr. RIght. Through the help of internet searches and her "Date Wranglers" she manages to create an 80-date itinerary that spans 6 months and 18 countries.

If you believe in love, fate, following your heart, and braving monsoons, food poisoning, weeks in the desert in order to find what you've always been looking for, this is the book for you!

Singles and not-so-singles alike will revel in Cox's hilarious, plucky, first-person account of her international dateline trials and tribulations. Will she find true love? Will she come up empty, aside from a lot of frequent flyer miles?
Read this engaging, inspiring, page-turner to find out!

This book opens with a bang but as you read through it some of the wording gets cumbersome. The majority of the text in the book seems to relate to just how wonderful the book is. The book suffers from bad editing and the ideas contained within the book (those not pertaining to marketing the book) are good points but never really developed.

I thought "How to "Pick Up" Beautiful Women" by John Eagan was pretty good but I have now found that "Dr Z on Scoring" by Dr. Victoria Zdrok, PhD is a much superior book on the subject. Dr Victoria Zdrok is a sexologist, dating coach and relationship advisor who is not only extremely intelligent but equally as beautiful. She is the only woman in history to be both a Playboy Playmate and a Penthouse Pet of the Year and she also holds a PhD in clinical psychology as well as a JD in law. She uses much more than just personal knowledge and education in writing her book as she also interviewed lots of beautiful and desirable women to determine just what these women look for in a man. After she collected and studied this information she was able to deduce what women really look for in a man. She then gives you a guild on how to attract women to you. Her writing style is enjoyable to read, funny and full of interesting and useful information. If you decide to buy just one book on this subject I'd highly recommend "Dr Z on Scoring", I'm sure you'll find it as worthwhile as I have!

I like this book. It speaks in a common sense format. If your looking for a book on how to understand women and approach them, this is the book. I also recommend Men from Venus and Woman from Mars to understand women. I have to say for the amount of pages and information this book, it is a great deal.

Okay advice... for getting into relationships
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-10
Yes, the author did his job by interviewing lots of women, and 50 of them are presented in the book. From that alone you can learn some things, but be cautious, because the way he makes the questions is suggesting the answers he wants.

For example, instead of asking the women in the first question, "How do you like to be approached?", he writes: "What can a man say to you to make you feel good?" Get it? When he asks he's already telling her "something to make you feel good", so of course the woman will reply something like "I want a compliment", "tell me I'm beautiful", etc.

Of course, I don't mean this is bad advice. As a matter of fact, how to beat the fear of rejection and how to read women bodylanguage sections are worth the price of the book alone. However, it lacks organization, and only helps with the "how to approach" dynamic, not what to do next. Also, the author doesn't want you to express sexuality, and doesn't encourage you to look for women who want to get laid. He suggests that you find out about their ex boyfriends and mirror the qualities they had. I don't agree with this advice, although it can work.

As a conclusion, the book has good advice about encouraging guys to go out there and meet many women, to have no fear of approaching hot girls, and get into relationships with them, not sex. But misses the "how to" get physical aspect with them. If you want to learn about body language and how to compliment effectively, then tis is a "ok" buy, nothing more.

If you are not looking for relationships, I suggest the book "The System: How To Get Laid Today" by Roy Valentine, with a step by step procedure without page-filler fluff, and "Undercover Sex Signals" by Leil Lowndes, a gem for understanding the dialect of body language. You can't miss with those.

The church has taught the importance of physical purity, abstinence until marriage for generations. This book takes the importance of purity to another level: the heart. The author is a young college student herself, so she writes as one who can relate to the struggles that teens and young adults face, the difficulty in waiting, and the importance of guarding one's heart and mind. I recommend this book for boys and girls as young as thirteen years old, but it's beneficial for everyone, especially singles.

"Even if we aren't having sex, endless cycles of dating and breaking up are...promiscuous. We are casually and indiscriminately giving away our hearts, one piece at a time."

Author Brienne Murk of the popular music group "Myrrh" has developed a youth seminar based on living one's faith in the real world. She and her sister, Heather, are frequent speakers at camps, conventions, churches, and youth events. Now in her 20s, Brienne relates to the challenges facing today's teens, offering them hope and help.

In Eyes Wide Open, Murk encourages teens to decide in favor of "emotional purity" by setting boundaries and carefully guarding their hearts. An entire chapter is devoted to the dangers of internet chat rooms, IM'ing, e-mail and other ways that a `virtual relationship' can develop. Such settings encourage anonymity, artificial identities and danger.

The book is crammed with real-life examples of emotional entanglements, heartache, and broken relationships that flow from a shallow, unguarded approach to life. Author Murk encourages the reader to set boundaries, put goals in writing, and find mentors who will keep her or him accountable and within the limits.

Filled with scripture references, the book reveals God's good design for human sexuality, and reminds us of Biblical examples of both success and failure, from whom we can learn. Using the tools and concepts expressed in this book, a teen or college student can face the world of dating and relationships with confidence and "eyes wide open."

"True purity is more than sexual abstinence - it's a commitment, a promise, and a choice to guard your heart."

Armchair Interviews says: Well-written, timely, and encouraging.

The dangers of MySpace and similar web locations are well known. Such sites are places where people can "pretend" to be someone else - you don't know who you're really talking to. A predator? A criminal?

Author Brienne Murk tells us there's another danger, too. Chatting on-line, sending instant messages, meeting over the internet -- teens and others can get unwisely involved at an emotional level, even if they maintain a distance and live out a decision of sexual purity.

Purity is more than sexual abstinence, Murk argues. Using Scripture and many examples from real life, Brienne Murk (recording artist and member of "Myrrh") shows that purity is not just physical: it is mental, emotional and spiritual too. Teens and college students should be "saving themselves" in ways that are more than just physical.

Well-written, timely, filled with protection and wisdom for today's teens. A great book to read together as a youth group, interacting about the key concepts and ideas here.

If you are interested in developing new skills in how to do the relationship dance, this is the book for you. Fearless Loving is a must read. It doesn't matter whether you're currently in relationship, whether you would like to be in a relationship, married, single, recently split up, or divorced. Rhonda has a talent for bringing together concepts and distilling them into bit size, chewable skills for taking action, which most any one of us can implement, given our commitment.

This book is a valuable tool for me, personally and for my sixteen year marriage/partnership. I'm finding new ways to really listen, communicate, to set boundaries, to clarify perceptions, to honor my feelings and to play.

Fearless Loving also offers an insightful and helpful protocol for people who are interested in a new way to date. I highly recommend this book to my friends and anyone interested in Love.

Rhonda Britten just gets it. This book is so wonderful. She can guide you along your path to loving in a way you never thought you could, but always wanted to. The most poignant truth for me is that everyone is innocent. That's so hard to think and act on, but she's so right about it. I would have everyone believe me innocent until proven guily, so it only seems fair for me to believe that about everyone else. This book will help you with understanding any type of love and how to do it best! She never coaches you to be someone you're not, and even highly discourages behaving as if you were playing a game. She teaches you how to test your prospective partner, or current partner so you can hear what they're not saying (which is more insightful than what they are saying). Rhonda will fill you full of courage and you will feel that you can love confidently without ever sacrificing who you are, or ever compromising what you need from a loving relationship.

Fearless Loving is well-written and packed full of useful tools that if followed will send you on your way to building new love relationships, enhancing the one's you already have and uncovering and discovering the ways in which we block or deny ourselves love. The author jumps into the trenches with you as she reveals her own personal experiences. This approach made it feel real and tangible. The best self-help book I've read in a long time!!

ok, i only first heard of Rhonda by watching the TV reality show "starting over" + then got hooked onto watching the amazing clarity with which she brought women from all walks of life to.
so my roomate bought this book to assist her from dating another jerk, and boy, is this book stellar! its not thick, not complicated, but really packs an emotional + mental punch. i have even more respect for this woman, who has been through so much + has found a way to positively help others. i've been telling all open-minded pals of mine who really do want to change any "failures" they have to read this. its really good stuff!
