I have read other Sondra Ray books and this one is the best... My husband and I were ready to divorce, A friend suggested this book, by the time we finished reading it we had a better perspective on the things we were doing every day to damage our own relationship and were able to get back on track. I recomend this book for anyone because it can improve even the best relationship.

I have bought this book atleast 7 times b/c I always end up giving it away. We heard the author on the radio station one Saturday and my boyfriend and I decided to read the book. I have to admit that it is not just about TIN Men but about TIN Women and the Women that date TIN Men (and why they don't help him change). All I can say is this is a must read!

Pretty General

Tin Man attempts to explain why men have problems with intimacy and commitment. I think a more appropriate title should have been Tin People since a number of the chapters are written specifically to identify character traits of Tin Women. With that said, I have to be completely honest in that I didn't find anything revealing or new in this offering to explain why men behave the way they do. July points to many obvious social stereotypes to identify the antecedents of Tin behavior; for instance, young skilled athletes on the playground rally their popularity into Tin Man psychosis as an adult, as well as numbers of female sexual partners equals Tin Man achievement. On a more humorous side (or at least I thought so), July explains the many ways Tin Men breakup relationships (e.g., "It's not you baby, it's me", or "I don't know where I'm going with my life now".) I found it funny in the fact that both men and women use the same excuses and not exclusive to just men. Moreover, we've all heard them before so why do we have to be reminded? In short, it was very general.

I thought this book was a good draft. I say this in the sense that July failed to touch upon the deeper meaning behind the reasons men feel the fear of commitment. I believe there should have been more research and interviews; more first hand accounts from a broad spectrum of economic and social backgrounds.

Not bad, but not amazing either.

I purchased this book based on the reviews seen here at Amazon.com. Though I think July has some interesting stuff to say, I don't think any of it was new or particularly revealing with respect to men and their search for intimacy. Moreover, I'm skeptical about anyone quoting Dr. Laura Schlessinger; the most unqualified person to dispense personal guidance with her "I know what is morally correct for the world" doctrine. (For further information on Dr. Laura, run a search using your favorite search engine for "Dr. Laura facts". I'm sure you'll find plenty of interesting reading.) But back to Tin Man, I think July set out to outline the patterns of behavior and their antecedents to help women, and even men, understand why the other half behaves the way they do. Am I a Tin Man? Yes, to a certain degree I would have to say so. Yet at the same time I must argue that given the broad scope by which July defines a Tin Man, all men, including women, are Tin People. It would have been more appropriate for July to title the book "Tin People" since he offers workshop questions for both men and women, not to mention chapters geared specifically for men and women as well. Why didn't he do this? Well, the obvious reason is that July has found a nitch catering to a female audience; a sort of Phil Donahue (but more masculine in appearance) for 2000 to help women understand their ruff and tumble men.

The bottom line: Is this book worth purchasing? Yes, but I would qualify this by suggesting a used copy first. New? Hmmmm...I'd have to think about that.

A good read, but not much new info.

I read a lot of self-help books, even those not pertinent to me. This was one of the better ones I have read. William July knows how to write a compelling non-fiction book. He has the right combination between facts and anecdotes. His ideas about the 'Tin Man' are not unique, but since he used such a catchy title, I'm sure his version will be remembered more than others.
The main drawback of this book, if you're reading it to improve your life, is that it doesn't provide many step-by-step directions for opening communication with a Tin Man, or with trying to help yourself if you are one. It presents the problem, and then kind of drifts off with a "Uh, so go see a therapist..." non-answer. He provided (in the hardback version) suggestions for a panel discussion, but realistically, how many people have the opportunity or desire to invite celebrities over to discuss this? Also, his definition of a "Tin Man" is so broad, it includes even sensitive New Age guys with a hint of manliness.
If you're a man who has problems with intimacy and want to over come your issues, see a therapist instead of reading this book. If you like self-help books and want an introduction to overly-macho guys, this is a good read.

Great for Tin men and the women who love them.

I got this book at a time that I was separated from my boyfriend. This book helped me understand why some men behave the way they do and why it is so hard for them to come to grips with themselves sometimes. Every woman and man should have a copy of this book,it is great! .

I was delightfully surprised when I began reading this book. There is so much more to it beyond sex secrets. Some of the core and most important relationship skills are highlighted and discussed in this book. I love how Veronica explains the importance of communication, boundaries, and so much more...., Of course the sex secrets are just incredibly Juicy! I feel this book should be given to every women, and even men for required reading!

Mostly lame and poorly written, but...

For writing, this book deserves ONE star. It's so bad. I actually looked up Monet on line and read a few of her essays and they were okay, so I suspect she was on a time crunch without a strong editor. For content, I'd rate around 3 stars... that is, if you can set aside that creepy feeling that she doesn't quite understand she was an escort. As an example, while she has a point that women don't always let their intelligence be part of what makes them sexy (as I'm sure many of us have seen our female friends dumb themselves down in front of certain men), Monet misses an opportunity to observe that men have reason to flatter her. What is that cliché -- beautiful women want to be told they're smart and smart women want to be told they're beautiful? ...She also glosses over how men are not going to act the same towards an escort as they are around women they see every day. That being said, this book seems to contain valid male-pleasing advice.

A little to literal with breadth but no depth

The book starts well but fails to really deliver on the details. The book feels like a large survey of topics: personal hygiene; sex; love; and orgasms. No single topic is really addressed in great detail and often times there are very literal examples or courses of action one should take in the matters of seduction.

If you have read text dedicated to seduction, sex, orgasms, and relationships or have found yourself in midway through the course of a examined life, I would say that this book comes across as too simple and too literal. You, the reader, will likely feel bored. However, I feel as though this would make a decent primer for girls leaving adolescence with a number of unanswered questions.

Sexy Title for Conventional Sexual Advice

I did not see the kind of detail I would expect from an escort with 18 years experience. You would expect that she could fill the book with remarkable anecdotes. Instead she will give examples of her husband's behavior! She talks about men who are ignorant and need advice about how to please a woman in bed. Her clients are all in love with their wives! It is quite a dull book of very banal sexual advice from a conventional woman's perspective. I am concerned if women should try to understand men using the author's "experience". Men will simply be bored.

An interesting read.

Although the book was well written and somewhat entertaining, it wasn't what I was expecting. Rather than being a manual filled with "techniques" it is more about the psychology of why men pay to see escorts. If you are interested in that, then this book is a very good one. If you are looking for detailed "how-too's" its not.

This book is highly interesting, informative, organized and educational. The title says the book is a guide for parents, however, I found the book to be most rewarding as a Health Education major. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and family friends should even get their hands on this book... you never know what questions may pop up about sex and relationships! The book's goal is to break the uneasiness, and sometimes embarassing or awkward moments of educating your children about life's issues. It was extremely easy to understand and very real to life. The authors themselves have their own family so they talk from their hearts as "real" parents. They cover everything from initiating converstion to sexual development and sexual orientation. The Mirons took great concern considering the different lifestyles, beliefs, and morals of each individual circumstance and family. The book has two sections called, "Try This" & "Just the Facts." They provide alternative ideas to aid in the education process and important statistics parents may not know. The book has very few faults and has better prepared me for when I start to teach. It has greatly boosted my confidence level and I am sure to hold onto the book both as a reference and as guidance. Take a look for yourself, I promise you that it will not be a waste of time!

A Terrific Resource for Parents!

Whenever the topic of talking about sex and sexuality with our children comes up, I share this title. The book is written for parents (or other adults). Of course it covers sex, but it does also talk about love and relationships and their connection to sex.

Four aspects of this book that are invaluable are:

* It's written to help each adult examine his/her own attitudes about each topic, and to understand those of their partner as well.

*It provides great language for explaining and discussing different aspects of intimacy, sexuality, love, and the like.

*It provides great communication advice that goes well beyond the topic at hand.

*The authors have provided poll data to help parents understand what aspects of sexual knowledge and attitudes have changed with this generation, research findings about STDs, pregnancy, abstinence education--you name it. They don't advocate a particular point of view but they arm the reader with information so that the reader is able to see past his/her own experiences as teens learning about sexuality, sex, and love.

Anyone with a child over age 8 should have this book and start reading it, because you're gonna need it much sooner than you think...

This book explained everything very well and did not sugar coat or beat around the bush. It was friendly and totally supported the idea of giving and recieving oral sex. The techniques presented in this book were well explained and very helpful. The pictures served their purpose in facilitating the explanation of certain body parts. Overall, i enjoyed this book.

This book is, in a word, ABSOLUTELY GREAT!!! SO BUY IT NOW!! It's written by a woman who obviously loves fellatio to the bottom of her soul, and who has developed superlative and awesome technique -- making her a true Grand Master of Fellatio!! Truly mind blowing techniques to add to your oral repretoire! In terms of substantive tips, it beats other books on this subject hands down. It is shorn of nonessential details and distills to essence the art of great fellatio -- and thus gets straight to the point. It makes us want to write a similar book on mind blowing cunnilingus -- so let's find a publisher.

I found this read to be somewhat informative prose wise, entertaining & very informative visually. Ms Taylor does a great job of relaxing the reader, let's face it, many women find giving oral sex repulsive. I know because I do sexual counseling. Having said that, I found a lot of her info a tad boring or repetitive, probably because I have read "Blowing Him Away", "Going Down","The Ultimate Guide To Fellatio" etc. etc.
The fun title definitely caught my eye, & if you are a novice, married 20 years or just plain curious, this is a MUST read! Every woman having sex with a man should know this info & be comfortable performing fellatio, which can be VERY sexually exciting for women!
Yes ladies, you can get extremely aroused with the right mindset & knowledge. This is where I think Ms. Taylor's book has the most importance. She delves into:
1)mental preparation
2)making it fun ie; poprocks
3)giving some tasteful (no pun intended) photos on how to achieve it all, mentally & physically.
Women are, for the most part, taught, "only bad girls do that" or they hear how awful it is from their peers or sisters. We are given thousands of subliminal messages that sex is
a) dirty, especially penises (how many penises do you see in R rated movies?)
b) messy,
c) inconvenient, but most of all....
d) a natural thing. Therefore we don't feel it necessary to read a book on sex, I mean, It's "natural" right? GO READ THIS BOOK & learn about good sex. Let me end by adding, one of the later photos shows the woman lying down, head back & the penis entering from above (deep throating). This excellent technique originated from Linda Lovelace & no,not all women who go down, deep throat, you do what is comfortable but don't limit yourself either. Regarding swallowing...99% of the time he won't even know whether you did or didn't, he is too absorbed into the wonderful orgasm you have given him (keep a towel handy). MY fun tip of the day, (I can't recall if this was in the book) get a hot cup of tea or coffee, swish it in your mouth a few seconds & drive him crazy, several times. Have fun ladies, I mean that....& you will after reading this book.

I found this book to be a HUGE eye opener to the amazing way our bodies function in a primal order for a purpose which we have little control over. To actually learn about the chemical responses that make women want to nest after sex and men want to flee was fasinating. IT'S NOT PERSONAL, IT'S PRIMAL! It was humorus to discover that all the pyschology in the world isn't going to change basic biology. THIS is what sex education classes should be about.

I call this book my "bible" for dating and relationships. The author has so many practical strategies for how to manage dating, I have read and re-read this book over and over like I was studying for a test! It has made such a positive impact on my life, I have also tried to get everything else she has written. I think it should be required reading for teenagers and college students--certainly my mother never taught me the things Mira does. I probably could have avoided getting married and then divorced in my 20s had I known then what I know now after reading this book!

Women & Love is responsible for a new and improved me.

I am not a typical psyc book reader. A friend gave me Women & Love as a gift. The book made such an impact in her life she knew I needed to read it as well. So many issues that i've been struggling with as a 30 year old attractive, smart and single woman were clarified. The book taught me to be myself, keep my eyes open to the truth, and to pinpoint what it is I need from love. I really enjoyed the stories the book told and Mira's style of writing made me feel like I was reading a book written specifically for me. The strange thing about this is that any woman any age would feel the same way. I'm really looking forward to finding my true love...what i'm looking for is much clearer now and I will never again hide my true self.

No more unnecessary mistakes!

As the spouse to a physician, I have always wondered if our relationship was unique. After reading this book, I realized the answer is yes and no. Yes, it is unique in that I am married to a physician which has its own set of characteristics. And No, it isn't unique among other medical marriages. We are not alone when it comes to spouses who are driven, perfectionists, and OCD to name a few. This book lays out the various types of physician relationships, their personality traits and characteristics and examples of good and bad relationships. An added benefit is the quotes from real life couples and also the steps successful couples have followed. This book really saved my sanity and gave me perspective I greatly needed at a tough time. I realized I had to have a different understanding of my relationship as it was unique to the profession. A wonderful book for anyone about to enter a relationship with a physician, anyone already in a relationship and for the physician themselves! ( My husband read it and said, 'Hmm, that does sound like me!" )

there is a reason that the AMA commissioned this book--medical marriages can be difficult

Separate sections for the male as the physician, the female as the physician, and when both are physicians are presented. Whatever your circumstance, it is very useful to see your relationship difficulties in terms of the problems that others are undoubtedly experiencing. You can benefit from the authors' useful ideas for best managing typical conflicts, without blaming yourself or your spouse. The authors note that all counseling, reimbursed by US-based health insurance, involves assigning a psychiatric pathology label. This process, alone, is likely to be iatrogenic.
Learning to best manage life's difficulties is is a major thrust of the Coalition for Marriage, Family and Couples Education (smartmarriages.com) an organization to which the authors contribute. Repetiton of improved relational habits from educational foundations, such as this book are an important key typically unknown to a majority of "therapists."
This is a "must" textbook for medical libraries, and a must read for those entering medical school.

No doubt ~ it was a relief to read we weren't the only ones. Medical marriages are without question wound together tightly by stress, partly due to the job, and partly due to the type of personality the job attracts (the best docs out there seem to have a degree of OCD, which interestingly often contributes to their success).

I did not find this book to be helpful in moving forward however. For that, I turned to the marriage topic in general and discovered "All You Need Is Love and Other Lies About Marriage." Between these two titles, I feel we've gotten past some bumps in the road and hopefully *fingers crossed* are educated enough to head future trouble off at the pass.

If you're drowning in a medical marriage, use these two books as your life saver. And know that you aren't alone! Much luck and happiness to you. :o)

An excellent book

I wish I'd come across this book years ago. Medical schools should have a mandatory class built around this book. Reading it I constantly found myself amazed at how similar the accounts of other medical marriage were to my own. I'd find my physician husband's behaviors, opinions, attitudes, etc. common to many other physicians in the book and my own frustrations, worries, behaviors mirrored by many of the physician wives in the book as well. The book classifies medical marriages into 8 categories (male physician married to at-home wife, female physician married to non-physician, two married physicians, etc.) I was surprised at how closely our category tagged our relationship's problems, strengths, needs. I do wish they'd gone into more detail on how to handle the various problems, ways to avoid the common pitfalls, etc. I plan on lending it to a friend where both husband and wife are physicians.
