This book is not as comprehensive as it could be. Also many manufacturers are under represented and some not at all while others have no photos. This makes it somewhat inconsistent. Having said that it is also just about the only thing available that gives you an overview of what's available in the industry. The "other" book, Shooters Bible, is more detailed in its listings but even less comprehensive. You really need both. I buy one every other year.

Every year for the past thirty odd years I have ran out in the early fall and purchased the annual Gun Digest as soon as it hits the bookstores. I did so again this year with the Gun Digest 2008. Unfortunately there has been a decline in quality to the Gun Digest in the past several years and John Amber the original editor and publisher of the Gun Digest would be very sadden to see GD 2008. Under John Amber, the GD every year was always an encyclopedia of technical, historical and pertinent related information for the collector, the sportsman, the historian and the gun enthusiast.
Now Gun Digest 2008 is basically a coffee table book. The photography is uniformly excellent but half the book is a catalog and the remaining half is a update on what the fireamrns industry has produced the past year i.e. Reports From The Field (Rifles, Shotguns, Autoloaders, Sixguns and others,Single Shots, Black Powder). Apart from a few nostaglia pieces ( Me and the CMP, 50 years in Boy Scout Shooting) that is the GD 2008 in a nutshell. The sole article that caught my attention was on the restoration of a Model 1886. I personally wish there had been more on restorations and custom rifles and handguns.
It just amazes me that with the explosion of firearms related forums and websites on the Internet (and I must admit that such information is not always credible)the Gun Digest cannot return to its' previous high standard. The ideas and material are out there.
Would I buy GD 2008 again? Sure but I will hope that GD 2009 is better.

Well, in general I was looking for useful tips, not positions that require me to be a female He-Man, holding myself up with one arm and what not ... Maybe they're great, but I'm scrawny and weak so I'll have to hit the gym to fully put this book to good use.

Those critical of this nifty little book are missing the point: it's super-fun. Fun positions. Fun names given to positions. Fun ideas that can be modified for your abilities and, ahem, preferences. It's handy size makes it easily concealable in the nightstand, and it's not too naughty to give as a gift. Enjoy!
Don't bother, unless you're in for a laugh.

No other reviews helped me with what I got when I bought this book. First off, unless your into guy on guy, woman on woman, or multiple partners, this book might have no interest to you. The positions in this book are redundant, and most of which everyone has tried. The harder ones require great flexibility, which can be fun but there's not enough of them. They have half the book as the above mentioned, guy on guy, girl on girl and more then two people. This is definately not for just couples. if you're a couple and looking for a book to get hints from, this is not the book. Also, if you don't have horizontal and veritical poles in your house, that takes away another quarter of the book. So basically you're only left with the same positions everyone has tried numorous times.

I would not recommend this to anybody. About 30 percent of the postions are repeat at least once, there are some that are repeated three or four times, just under a different name. This book also doesn't have any information about the positions. I would recommend "Daily Sex: 365 Positions and Activities for a Year of Great Sex!" by Jane Seddon.

I read the book. I saw a car accident. I can't go into further details because it is illegal to perform medical procedures without a degree in medicine. The boy didn't survive (he was brain dead immediately (happens when your head takes a cars bumper)) but his body did and was used to keep two other kids alive.

My worst case scenario, as a former SAR (Search And Rescue) team member, is recovering some poor jerk who had this book in his pack. Hmmm, now why didn't he survive? This book is entertaining, but I'd no more read it for survival information that I'd read the Enquirer for news. Has the author ever tried to punch anything underwater? Not very effective on sharks or anything else for that matter. It is downright dangerous for the person who feels this skimpy book gives him/her the knowledge to survive their way out of a paper bag let alone a real survival situation. The fact that it sells well is an abject lesson in the miracles of marketing and the desire of people to feel secure in their "knowledge" without actually doing anything. Being prepared takes effort!

This book is written by an experienced personal trainer who has trained average women into more stronger and attractive women. While the book is very gym and special-machine orientated, it is very straight forward in how a woman can sculpt the body that she wants. It describes how to train and perform the exercises as well as successful case studies. There is also section dealing with pregnancy. At the end of the book are several inspiring stories of women who have overcome obstacles, such as overweight, eating disorders and life-threatening injuries to become national level fitness competitors. I liked the book so, much that I bought a couple extra copies for gifts to fitness-orientated female relatives.

I have been looking for something like this for a long time. The book catergorizes the muscle groups and informs you of the correct way to perform he exercises to maximize your workout. The book also informs of alternative ways to perform the exercises (machine, free wieghts, 'at home' or all three. The book also comes with a DVD which demonstrates some of the exercises.

I have the older version of this - didn't realize there was a new one, so will be sure to buy it. I love this book. It offers enough variety so that you can work every single part of your body without your muscles getting too used to one movement. Also, I have alot of spinal issues & find that there is so much variety that I can have a complete routine just like anybody else without hurting myself. I also ordered the Look Great Naked Diet book. Can't wait to get it. Great work Brad!!!

I recently purchased this book with dvd. It only took a few
seconds for me to realize that this is an outstanding
program. The dvd is very well organized. It does not jump around. Brad starts with the right sequence of muscles to exercise first. Thank you.
The pace in explaining the exercise, movement, the
model (Jan) executing the moves is perfect--not too fast, not too slow. I was especially impressed that alternative equipment usage was demonstrated in the dvd for those of us (like me) who can no longer make it to the gym (at least daily).
Most fitness books (and I have many) only demonstrate moves
from the gym and offer no alternatives.
This book is a MUST for any personal trainer as a refresher--plus you will learn as it can be an excellent instruction tool. It is a must for anyone who wants to workout but does not want to be overwhelmed with a bunch of fluff, junk, boasting--you WILL NOT find that in this book or on the dvd.
To me, Brad has a gift of instructing, teaching, and he walks the walk. Again, most in this industry have the bodies and can execute moves, but cannot teach it to the average person. A beginner, intermediate, or advanced exerciser will NOT be bored, discouraged, or lost. YOU WILL NOT GO WRONG WITH THIS BOOK. IT IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY.
Though I am a personal trainer and group exercise instructor, I am writing this from the user's persective.

Despite my two stars rating, I really enjoyed this book. Why the mediocre rating? Because I found myself wanting a lot more. As a weekend golfer and one who watches a lot of golf on televison -- I thoroughly enjoyed the stories about Wie, Trevino, Feherty and Jacobsen. But the rest of stories were just okay but not ones I can relate to. This subject matter had so much potential and I just think Sampson came up short. Recommendation: If you need a quick golf read, then find a used copy because its not worth the $20. I love Sampson's books but this one failed to live up to my expectations. I guarantee that if Mr. Sampson did a sequel it would be much, much better.

Golf Dads: Fathers, Sons, and the Greatest Game is a terrific book that I found easy to read and interesting in its exploration of the complexity of relationships of fathers and sons and how golf affects communication between generations. I am not a golf enthusiast but I loved Curt Sampson's style of writing and illuminating content. The stories of fathers and sons / daughters is a book well worth reading. I would highly recommend this book.

I loved it. More than any book I've ever read, this one included me, if that makes any sense. I would read for a bit and then find myself lost in some memory of my own father, reminded of it by something that Sampson had written and written well. Every emotion in life, both the good and the bad, was played out in a round of golf with Dad. This book touches them all.

I picked up this book yesterday at the mountaineers bookstore after patiently waiting for it for weeks and I'm happy to say the wait was most definitely worth the wait.
This title is a great revision of the classic '100 hikes' series perfectly geared for the modern hiker. The text is much more concise and direct with much clearer maps and directions. Gone are the Harvey Manning style trail reviews that often turned into personal meditations where meaning and fact had to be gleaned with much care. As is evident by the title, the focus is also entirely on Day Hiking, with a scant minority of the hikes exceeding 10 miles round trip. This is in sharp contrast to the classic hikes series in which most volumes were heavily slanted toward multi-day backpacking treks. This probably bodes well for the old series staying in print as it will still have a definitive niche. There is also a much greater emphasis given to year round hikes with many low elevation destinations included in the whopping 125 hikes listed in the book.
My one complaint would be that the snazzy 'hike overview chart' at the beginning of the book misses out on a few helpful details that would make finding a desirable hike quickly easier, specifically these details would be elevation gain, specific months accessible and the subjective star rating of the hike's overall quality that. All these details are of course available for each hike in the meat of the book. What is included in the overview chart are things such as whether or not the hike is accessible year round, what scenic features each possesses, and subjective difficulty level on a 1-6 scale. Amusingly only one hike rates a 6 for difficulty which translates to "beyond strenuous".
Overall a great launch to a new series. I'm highly looking forward to the Snoqualmie & South Cascades editions (both written by a different author) and hopefully many more to come after that!

I have been patiently waiting for this book to release ever since Father's Day of 2006. I met author Craig Romano on the trail and he featured individual pictures of me and my dad in two areas of this guide. At first, I wanted to pick up the book for its sentimental value but as I began to look through the pages I realized that there were a plothora of trails to chose from. I came across trails I have never seen written up in any guide book including the Theler Wetlands in Belfair, Twanoh State Park near Union and Penrose Point State Park. The driving directions and trail descriptions are highly accurate and there is a quick breakdown of each hike outlining the difficulty, open seasons, corresponding maps and accessibility. Each hike has been meticulously researched and it is evident that a great amount of time and effort went in to making this book as accurate and descriptive as possible. Out of all of the Olympic Peninsula trail guides I have read, this is quite possibly the best out there.

Any coach should take the philosophies of John Wooden to heart, they work! Using his teachings you can win games and the players have a heck of a lot better experience. After a dismal record in only my 2nd season fresh out of college I started researching his work, and applying it - only to have one losing season over the next 7. Started to get away from his teachings recently making my frustration levels go through the roof so bought this book as a refresher, it helped and recommend it to all coaches.

Ron Gallimore and Swen Nater combine their incredible knowledge about teaching and basketball to deliver a new and insightful look at the teaching practice of John Wooden. The book is a wonderful balance of personal stories from Nater and insights about teaching and learning from Gallimore that demonstrate just how incredibly wise, intentional, and gifted The Coach was and is. This book demonstrates the hard work, preparation, courage, and commitment to continuous learning that defines quality teaching. A must read for every teacher and coach.

Swen Nater knows John Wooden - that much is clear. Clear too, is what a great teacher John Wooden was and, continues to be. This is a book any teacher can learn from. Sure it is great for coaches, but when a teacher is looking for guidance on how to handle varying student potential within their class, is it better to treat everyone the same - or to treat each individual differently, according to their personality, talent, ability, commitment etc. as Wooden did? Swen does a great job of interjecting his own life's experience into the priniciples Wooden taught. And he uses those of "Alcindor", Wicks, Walton, Allen and others to make the stories fit the lesson. This is textbook material, or should be required reading for aspiring or experienced teachers - 5 Stars plus!

Dissapointing follow up to Squeeze Play. I normally enjoy Kate Angell's stories, but not this one. Having said that, I will read her next book in the hopes it will be better.

I LOVED THIS BOOK. I read it in a half day because I couldn't put it down. It was Funny, Cute, & Sexy. LOVED ALL THE CHARACHERS. I wish she would have written a individual book on each couple. I ran out and bought her first book and I ordered the third one by Kate Angell.

Kate Angell has hit a grand slam in her latest baseball story, Curveball.
The Bat Pack of the Richmond Rogues have gone to far this time in their antics. When a brawl with their own team causes a suspension, things look dire for them making the playoffs.
Cody "Psycho" McMillan takes nothing off of anyone nor anything. He has bought a historical home and the local preservation society won't leave him alone. Enter decorator Keely Douglas-Lowell. Something isn't on the up and up with Keely. But soon Psycho doesn't care as long as she doesn't leave when the job is finished.
Jesse "Romeo" Bellisaro has not met a woman he could not seduce. Emerson Kent, a local reporter is proving to be the exception. Romeo and Em start a series of bets that are hilarious and sexy.
Chase "Chaser" Tallan has always had a soft spot for neighbor Jen Reid. Fixing Jen up with friends and coworkers makes Chaser realize that he has more then just friend feelings for her.
Each story in this book is fully fleshed out and a pleasure to read. All the couples's stories are hot, sexy, funny and touching. I have recommended this book highly to everyone I talk to. I cannot wait for more stories of these smoking hot baseball players.

This book is a very useful tool for any aspiring athlete. Some of it is obvious and some it is quarky but altogether it is very useful. And I'm certain that if one applies these techniques you will see big gains. This book helped me understand my emotions as they relate to my sport. And it gave me ways to be a tough thinker and a actor. Everyone knows its important to try and be tough but not everyone knows how. This book has just about everything you need to know to take you game to the next level.

This book provides some great "food for thought" for practitioners of any sport, be it a team or an individual sport. You do not have to believe every word or make all the written exercises the author proposes; just read and think. At least, you will approach the "mental game" in a new way.
A training and coaching gem!

Extremely helpful "how to" book for becoming mentally tough. Unlike other sports pysche books, this one tells you very specific things to do to improve concentration, focus and most important, resiliency. Think of this as a cookbook of recipes for creating the appropriate mental response at the right time.

This is a pretty good, easy read. It doesn't hit you with a lot of scientific mumbo-jumbo that you'll never understand. Instead, it gives you a basic, common-sense approach to improving the mental aspect of your game. The author shows how the physical world and the emotional world are related, and how being stronger mentally can help you perform better in your sport.
It is not geared towards any one sport, but rather it is geared to athletes in general.

A lot of information in this book. It covers just about everything. I was hoping for a little more information on feeding, but overall a good buy. One note: if you are looking for tack and riding info, this book focuses mostly on english riding. There is very little reference to western riding.
Excellent for new riders

This is a great book for first learning about horses, how to care for them, feeding, symptoms of illnesses, and it's simple to read and understand. It gives the basics for people who might want to own a horse for the first time so that you can know what to watch out for and take the best care of your horse. I'd recommend this book for first time horse owners, and for people working with horses for the first time. It's comprehensive and gives you a lot of great info.

This horse book was awesome! I will be taking riding lessons this summer and this book helped me get a head start on horse care, like grooming, feed, tack and much, much more! It's a great book for any horse lover even if you don't have or ride a horse. This book makes it a fun, simple way to learn about how to take care of a horse! This is one of my favorite horse care guides out of all of them!

I found this book to be quite interesting, I bought it as a gift for a friend who is just getting in to horses, and looked it over before giving it. Although most of it is basic, it is not condescending towards the reader, and has many interesting facts. I even learned a few things, and have been a horse person for over 17 years. The photo's chosen to accompany the work are usually helpful, and overall this is an excellent book for someone getting started with horses.
