My 14-month old grandson loved this book. Maybe it's because it's usually read in a "sing-song" way but he had us read it to him over and over. He actually sat still while it was being read and that doesn't always happen!!! I would recommend it for young children. I read it to my own children. It will be around for a long time.

I bought this book with Scarry's A Day at the Airport book to help entertain my 23 month old during a cross country flight. My son wasn't as absorbed in Cars and Trucks as I'd hoped he be during the flight but in the weeks since he has been asking for the "Trucks" book every day. We narrate some of the pictures but he also spends some time looking at book every day on his own, paging through the book and absorbed in the illustrations (and commenting on the pictures occasionally, or at least as much as a near 2 year old can). We have other books with photos of vehicles which also interest him but this book so far seems to have more lasting appeal. I think it's the combination of the sheer volume and variety of the vehicles, interesting animals driving them, and just lots going on on each page.

He has learned many new words from having this book.

After reading many reviews on here, I bought this book wondering what I'd get. It seems that most reviews here are either very strongly liking this book or very strongly not liking it (it's a kid's book for gosh sakes!)
Anyway, my son loves this book! It's the perfect size to hand him in the car or leaf through and talk about at a restaurant while waiting for food. The book is silly and fun- so please lighten up if you're not sure what a "corn car" is or whatever. Richard Scarry wasn't afraid to use his imagination, and was a lot of fun as a result.
It's an inexpensive book that takes a few minutes to flip through. Golden, in my eyes!

After 30 years, the bug hit me and I bought a new crusier. Checked many sites for the best books out there, this one came highly recommended. It is a good book to refresh the basics and give you some simple exercises you can do to get the feel of the bike back. I will give it to my son to read too. I haven't taken the riding class yet, may, but not sure. One thing I learned from riding, better safe than sorry, speed will kill and the car wins every time. Ride safe and live long.

The book provides a lot of tips and useful information, a lot of it common sense and lot of it new knowledge, especially for a new rider. The only thing that holds it back from being a 5 star is the continuous lecturing on the dangers of motorcycling. The books starts off with the dangers with numbers and in almost every section, almost every paragraph it seems to continue the rant on the dangers. Its to the point that you just almost want to stop reading it because of the danger of a paper cut when you turn the page. But, in the end more knowledge about riding is better and this is a book that ties together information with stats, and reinforces good riding techniques.

I highly recommend this book to all beginners and experienced riders. No the book is not going to teach you how to ride a bike or everything you need to know. But it may give you that 1 tip that saves your life. The author does assume you have some basic knowledge. So if you don't know what a fork is or where the shifter lever is on a bike the MSF book would be a better place to start. I am a complete newbie to bikes right now and I couldn't imagine going to the streets without all the knowledge I gained from this book.
Highly recommended!

This is a book I thoroughly enjoyed as a child. I began to borrow it from the library for my own two boys and decided, finally, to order one from Amazon for my son's birthday. We returned the borrowed book to the library the day before his birthday and there were many tears. So, you can imagine my son's elation to open up his very own "Little Engine That Could" on his birthday. A fantastic book! There is also a newly released version with gorgeous illustrations. Check that one out as well. Great books are one of the greatest gifts you can give your children.

The story itself is great-- I like sharing its meaning with the little "I can't do it" children who are in my life. Children seem to like the pictures in this book. However, the quality of the binding is not as great as I hoped it would be-- it's already starting to pull apart after just several readings.

Love it. My kids love it. We first saw this book in a larger version at our pediatrician's office and we read it while waiting to be seen. My daughter loved it so much that I looked it up as soon as we returned home. The story is so well known, I won't even bother to rehash it. Even though I think I can... (A little humor there)
As usual, the visual component is very important as far as I'm concerned and the vintage art is fabulous. It reminds me of things I saw while cleaning up my grandparents' house. Left behind story books and toys from my mother and her sister. Very nostalgic.
This particular version of the book is quite small which I like, but my daughter wants a larger version. I believe it is available in a lager size here at Amazon.

Very good introduction to EV conversions. Worth the price just for the practical tips and process information. Written in the early 90's, so it lacks information on newer motor systems (eschews AC because of complexity) and recent battery technology (lithium ion, etc.). It really could use and update... I'm sure there have been advances in the last 15 years. Mr. Brown is still offering workshops in EV conversion in Seattle and runs a conversion supply company (Electro Automotive). Interestingly he offers newer AC kits through his operation. If you're serious about converting to electric, this book is a good place to start.

The other Dr. Seuss books that I purchased are a little long and wordy for her for right now, but "Hop on Pop" is perfect for this stage-and it's nice that it comes in board book form.

My son just turned one and this is the first book that he really listens to when I read. Before this, the only books I could get him to pay attention to were books with photos of faces, food, animals, etc. I would look through one of these types of books before nap and bed to get him to sit with me and share focus. A few weeks ago I decided to bring in some Seuss and he loves it. He starts laughing as soon as he sees the cover and jabbers with me when I start reading. It has him talking a lot more and trying to imitate the rhythm and rhyme. The first few times I read it to him I was laughing out loud as well because the little pictures and storiettes are so silly. It's great because I used to try to read him an actual story and he would get impatient. This is just the right length for a busy one-year-old.

I won't order these books, because the cover price is $7.99 U.S. and Amazon is asking $8.99. Look at the preview and check out the back cover and see for yourself!! They might have free shipping, but they're charging a dollar more than cover price. The books are great, but what's Amazon's problem? This makes absolutely no sense to me. I generally have nothing but good things to say about Amazon.com, but this is just ridiculous.

Looking for a combination of Drives to get the best out of a Touring Holiday in the USA - you need this book! It is easy to link together many of the "120 Spectacular Road Trips" to form a fantastic itinerary to see the best scenery and sights the USA has to offer. It's better than the more specialised "Route 66" and "Lincoln Highway" drives for visitors to the USA who are wanting to experience a broader cross section of US history and its stunning geography. Maps are clear, colour photography whets the appetite and cultural and scenic highlights are picked out in the commentary. Combined with the use of a simple Tom Tom style GPS system the book would provide the solution for visitors planning a Touring experience of the USA - from the smallest local scale to an epic journey covering the best of the nation.

Wonderful, wonderful book. It gave me details about places that I have never seen but would like to someday. The details are great and they all sound like wonderful places to visit. I fantasize about the places when my day is going bad and transport myself to a better place. Definitely buy it.

This is my 20 month old son's FAVORITE book. He constantly wants it to be read and re-read to him....and this is the only book that he asks for (even though we have a lot of other good ones). For any kids that love trains, this is a great book. And for parents, it's an enjoyable/easy read. And the illustrations are very nice too.
Bright, Colorful, and full of fun sounds!

I have read this book to a baby I babysit for, and he loves it! I've been reading it to him since he was 4 months old and he still likes to have it read to him over and over again! The primary colors in the book make it so vivid and colorful and you can be very animated when you read it, they love it! I ordered one for my sister's new baby!
Every train loving toddler should own a copy of this book

The little boy in this story loves trains, and when it's time for bed he chugs his wooden train all around a most elaborate track...under the tunnels under the chairs in the bedroom, around some blocks that might cause a landslide, on a bridge across the river (a fish tank) and onto bed with the tired little boy who settles in with some stuffed animals for the night. It's a soothing and inventive bedtime story, and a pleasure to read aloud.
A favorite in our household!!

We have both the board book and the regular book. We love them and read them on a daily basis. Definitely a must for all boys!
