As usual Don Casey has taken a cryptic topic for many of us and opened up it up into a very clear and easily understood system. Reading what he says about batteries will pay for the book ten times over, and reading the rest will save your boat. I will never leave the dock for more than a day sail without his complete library.

This is the best electrial book on marine electrical systems I have ever read. I am a power boat owner and would have titled the book Sailboat and Power Boat Electrics Simplified. I wired our 23' Bayliner Ciera for AC power using this book. Every boat owner needs to have a copy of this book. They make great Christmas and Birthday presents for your boat owner friends.
Not just a basic book, and profoundly well written!!

I was trained as a microwave electronics technician in the Air Force, and have studied Ham radio theory for years, so I didn't go into the wiring of my Newport 27, or my investigations of installing an HF ham transceiver cold, but Mr. Casey has written a book that, as others have said here, is so easy to read, and covers so much ground at the same time, that it's a truly profound work that added greatly to my technical and theoretical abilities and understanding. You don't truly understand the depth he touches on, or the wisdom in which he unifies and relates various theories, unless you come from some technical discipline. Only then do you recognize his insight as way more than a basic book for beginners. Don't let the personable, "easy read" fool you, this guy's good. I think it was Einstein who said something like "you don't really understand your field unless you can explain the most complex of it's theories to a child." Well Mr. Casey exemplifies that concept.
As another reviewer here has said, it would be nice to see an updated edition covering the latest technologies like conversion of lighting over to LED, Absorbed Glass Mat Batteries (AGM), etc., and Mr. Casey, I'm ready to buy it if you're ready to write it.
But don't wait for a new edition, buy this book, without a doubt.

The Woods family has some great books done by the mother and father. Not too impressed with the son's computer graphic illustrations. Have the fish book too. Seems to be capitalizing on earlier success of the parents. Storyline suffers too. This book, while better than the fish one, misses at the beginning and the end even for my young son. Why do the letters fly away on a pencil? And the last page writing a thank you letter to the grandparents? It would be best just to dump these pieces and have a story about the letters in their own world. Also, to have the capital letters' firetruck get in a wreck and totally flip over seems to be an unnecessary violent act. Couldn't the truck have just broken down? It is an okay book. For the price, you could find better ABC stories and much better Woods material.

Audrey Wood and Bruce Wood's ALPHABET RESCUE is a pick for elementary-grade schools where kids are learning the alphabet basics. A colorful blend of full-page photos and drawings embellishes the story of little letters from Charley's Alphabet who are disappointed when the capital letters won't let them have fun with the grown-up fire truck. So they decide to build one of their own. Kids receive a basic introduction to phonics games and will have a good time identifying and finding the 'little' letters of the alphabet embedded in a gay story.
He LOVES it!

My son loves this book and all of the Alphabet books by Audrey Wood. We started reading them together when he was 2 1/2 and the books quickly became his favorites. He has them all memorized and we incorporate "ABC adventures" into stories that we make up for him every night before he goes to sleep. I highly, highly recommend this book and the others by Audrey Wood.

I used the book to help pass an interview and reference other materials versus this read. Very dry read, but found some obscure information I was looking for here. Highly suggest the book for the station, as people seem to pick it up often when subtle disagreements on facts/treatments occur. By the way, it helped me get the job.

I bought this book in prep for the FP-C exam and found it to be very well written. It's not an entertaining book, but if you are looking for cold hard knowledge about flight medicine, this is an excellent book. Since I have read it, many have borrowed it from me and tell me the same. It's bare bones medicine with no fluff. I would not recommend this for anyone who is new to the field.

This is a good book overall, if you can handle what is otherwise a very dry read. There aren't many textbooks for critical care out there like this one and because of that it is an invaluable resource. Nonetheless, it is very hard to read through and could use some spicing up.
Very informative on everything from advanced airway procedures, cardiac care, and transport pharmacology. Excellent section on peds as well.

I read this book on the heels of Chris Rose's "1 Dead in Attic: After Katrina." Chris Rose mentions this book toward the end of his, and I thought reading a positive story would be a good balance after reading the details of post-Katrina New Orleans. The story of 9/11 and the people of Gander, Newfoundland is fascinating and uplifting, but the book itself is poorly written. Perhaps it is because the author is a reporter, but the emotional impact that should have been there just wasn't. The sentence structure and word choices made me think I was reading an elementary school student's report on what happened rather than a professional's rendition. Had the content of the tale not been so wonderful, I'd have given this book even a lower star rating. I rarely think a movie is better than a book, but in this case, I kept wishing for a movie version.
Tales of the Newfies' unsurpassed hospitality after 9/11

Over 6,000 diverted passengers disembarked in Gander, Newfoundland on Sept. 11, 2001. Various newspaper accounts (most notably the Wall Street Journal) have told the tale of the Newfies' unsurpassed hospitality in the week that followed. Here, Jim DeFede does a nice job collecting the personal experiences of 180 individuals involved in events in Gander that week. We hear from passengers, pilots, Gander air traffic controllers, town mayors, school principals and the townsfolk who put their lives on hold to help out.
As a slice of life story, this is nice reading. As a historical accounting, this is not the place to come. This book cries out for a map. I just finished Peter Robb's A Death in Brazil: A Book of Omissions. A big part of what made that book work was a Alex Snellgrove's excellent hand-drawn maps in which all places mentioned in Robb's text are noted on the maps. See a place mentioned...flip to the map...flip back to the text. Works great. Would have worked here. Also, I'd have liked an appendix with some stats - a list of the flights by carrier, flight number, number of passengers, origination and intended destination. That would have been a very useful addition to the narrative.

Most amazing book I've read. Most Americans were unaware that all of incomming flights at the time of the bombings were diverted to the nearest airports not within USA borders. This story is wonderful and shows how the human race really cares about one another. It was hard to put down.

So many reviews have been written about this book, I'm not sure I can add anything that hasn't already been said. But I'd like to try! This is a very heartwarming book, in the best (almost unbelieveable) way. People didn't just go out of their way to help stranded travellers on 9/11 and in the days following, they gave up their linens, their food, their homes...and this is in a depressed area with a 16% unemployment rate. Each and every resident jumped in to give their all, staying up all night to cook (and, in one case, just sitting up to watch over people while they slept, in case they felt insecure). Businesses gave up inventory. Drivers turned over their cars to complete strangers. School bus drivers, who were on strike, poured in to drive anyone and everyone. No effort was too large or too small for these generous people. When someone was disappointed that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police didn't actually wear the uniforms that are so well known, a local RCMP officer got permission from his superiors to don the duds and had his picture taken with thrilled travellers. Although written in a plain, straight-forward style, this book holds up well. I read it when it was first published, and just re-read it today. It feels just as good now as it did then! It's all about the people - they're simply the best!

You can either learn turbocharging by doing little research and doing it yourself and making expensive mistakes or you can buy this book for $20 and save yourself the time and money and know the information. Turbocharging a modern higher compression engine requires abundant knowledge of turbo systems, or mistakes can really cost you. Excellent book, geared more towards imports, you really feel comfortable turbocharging just about any car after having read it.

I got this book to learn more than just the basic "what is a turbocharger" and was definitely satisfied. I didn't need it but the book pics you up at the very bottom of the learning curve and takes you over basics into the more meaty stuff and all the way into fairly advanced engineering and formulas. All in an easy to understand format and language, that admittedly has its annoying moments from time to time. Anyway, if you drop out at the formula level, no problem, it's there for those who want to calculate their own best setup. Something that can also be accomplished by calling tech support at the manufacturers and turbo specialty shops where you are going to buy your stuff. I also like that it successfully covers both the import crowd as well as domestic V8 without preference for one or the other. The math and theory is all the same and the book ends on build examples on Hondas, Supras, Mustangs etc. Definitely a 4 star book.
The best Turbo book the average tuner can buy.

Mr Warner has written a very good, thorough and educational Turbocharging book here.
It is based entirely on facts and is written in a concise, logical order covering all of the topics detailed in the content description. It is also worded very well and moves along at a good pace...you'll enjoy the read.
This is not only a 'this is how a turbo works...this is how to bolt one on.' style book. It far surpasses the C. Bell book detailing turbo theory, ECU fueling and ignition and all of the extra components and theory behind them and how they all affect each other also.
You don't just get 'what' is done, you get 'how' and 'why' as well, taking the blinders off the reader to form their own ideas of how to go about their own turbo system design on any given application.
4/5 Stars only because there are a couple of typos, one where one line of an equation doesn't follow on from the preceding one...
Otherwise, you won't buy a better Turbocharging book at the moment.

Surprisingly, some of readers have found this book useless. Don't believe them. It's the excellent addition to A. Bell's "Forced Induction ..." and much more informative than Corky Bell's "Maximum Boost". Trio "Bell, Bell and Warner" allows you to build by yourself not just operable, but durable and powerful engine which will gladden you on the street. Undoubtedly, this edition is "must have"-grade for everyone in turbo-theme and its price is laughable comparing its knowledge value. Thank you, Mark...

This should be the first grade text book for those who want to graduate from Super Street or some other 'tuner' magazine and actually begin learning something.
The author isn't trying to shove any products down your throat... its just well written and informative.
I've been building turbo cars for years, but still learned a few things from reading this book. I now use this book as the place to send people who ask me too many beginner questions over the internet. I say "Read this, and then come back and ask whatever you haven't figured out yet"
It can't recommend which brand of standalone you should buy, but it explains what one is.

Nora Gaydos' series 'Now I'm Reading' has really helped our unmotivated reader get going with reading.
PROS
- stickers (multiples for each of the books)
- fun stories (too often, early reader stories are dull, but I was actually flipping ahead on 3-4 of these books to see how things would resolve.)
- Good illustrations (nothing Newberry Award worth, but they really compliment the story, good colors, fun characters.)
- Your reader can't cheat by 'reading' the pictures
- MOST IMPORTANTLY, Nora does an excellent job of consistently hammering home the specific sound, letter combo, or phonic rule the book is focused on. (Usually on the first read, by the end of the book, my reader was sight reading the focused on letter combo or rule)
CONS(only because I have to list at least one to be 'fair and balanced')
- MORE STORIES!!! Keep writing Nora...your approach hits the nail on the head for early readers. We need more of your work.

CONS(only because I have to list at least one to be 'fair and balanced')
- MORE STORIES!!! Keep writing Nora...your approach hits the nail on the head for early readers. We need more of your work.

My child will be in 1st grade this year and this is our third set of reading books by Nora Gaydos. The size of the books is very kid-friendly and the amount on each page is just what the early reader can handle. He feels like he is making progress and it is not too hard so we don't encounter too much frustration which is common with his other books.
Ease into reading the fun way!

I cannot say enough good things about the "Now I'm Reading" series by Nora Gaydos. Starting with the 2 level one books and going through to the level four pack you have 50 books that are just right for your beginning reader. Each book is 10 pages, meaning that your child has 500 pages of simple yet fun, attractive, entertaining, and educational learning at their fingertips. Each book focuses on a different sound, pattern, or skill and each level builds on the last. There is a lot of repetition of the words and sounds in the text which helps build word and sound recognition. My son learned to read with these books when he had just turned 4 and continues to love them now as he nears 5. They have given him a great base which he is easily applying to all kinds of other books. He loves these books because they are small, funny, easy to get through in one sitting, and enjoyable time after time. Sometimes he is distracted from the reading due to the very cute pictures, but one thing is certain, he will want to read them again and again. Love of reading and learning are definitely things that these books promote! What more could a parent want?

Interesting and well written story of two kids flying across the country in a Piper Cub. Great adventure and an example of God's provision and protection even when people don't acknowledge His existence.
Outstanding flying adventure!

I am a new private pilot and devour anything aviation related, so I very much enjoyed the flying theme of this book. But even without the flying aspect, it is a great story of how complicated father/son relationships can be and the bonding between brothers. It is a very touching story. Mr. Buck is a solid author as well, which is not always a prerequisite for writing a memoir.
Wonderful Book for Any Reader

This is a fantastic book! I've read it twice and will most likely read it again. It has so many compelling elements that it can't be fully appreciated in one reading. I think that the sheer adventure in Kern and Rinker Buck's 1966 coast-to-coast flight is what really seized me. I am the same age as the Buck brothers and struck out on my own the very same week they made their flight. Their desire to have an adventure, prove something to their father and master a pursuit reserved for skilled adults hit home with me. The book is funny, touching and insightful about family relationships.
It is a great read and I, for one, am very grateful to Rinker Buck for putting this story down on paper all these years later.

WARNING: the first few chapters are dry, I almost gave up on the book and I am glad i didn't because after the first few chapters the book is so interesting and grabs you.
Very Funny and descriptive you will love this book even if you don't have an interest in aviation.
it takes you through the boys journey and Rinker Buck describes everything in enjoyable detail. The book describes their flight across the country and back(although he really does blow through the journey back).
The book reminds you of a different time in the world, 1966, when you could fly around without a radio and sleep on the tarmac at the airport.
Anyone can enjoy this book and it is in story format, not biography.

Rinker Buck is an engaging storyteller and this story is truly delightful. Touching at times and hilarious at others, Buck takes you along on he and his brother's amazing adventure across America in a Piper Cub. I would recommend this book to just about anybody, especially aviation enthusiasts.
One note: you don't need to read the after word as it is a little sad and depressing after such a good read, and it doesn't relate to the story that much.

This is a very good book. I recently bought a small trailer sailor which I wanted to add a stereo to and a new 4 channel distribution panel. The book explained everything in an easy to understand manner from testing and trouble shooting, to theory , wire sizes necessary, and battery selection and maintainance. Even installing solar and wind charging systems. I am glad I got this book.
