This is a comprehensive work that provides the pros and cons of life on the road. Although some of the material is out-dated the core message is complete. I found the information on licenses, vehicle registration, and voter registration to be very thought provoking.

This book is full of great information. Every chapter is very detailed. What I like most about the book is that it discusses things to consider when looking for your RV - things you might not have even considered had you not read this book. Also contains a great section on customizing/modifying your RV for full time RVing. A great book to read if you are considering the full time RV life style.

My husband wanted to try full-time RVing, but I was too attached to having a house. Anyone trying to make that decision, needs to read this book.
It helps you figure the costs of such a lifestyle and how to deal with mail, licenses, and medical issues without a home base. Two chapters cover selecting an RV for full-timing. Then it addresses adjusting the RV to your special needs and what to do about storage. Five chapters cover the care of the RV (electrical systems, water, sewage, etc.). There are sections on driving, security, and selecting campgrounds.
We're talking about more than 500 pages of solid information here. It's essential for full-time RVers and quite useful for even part-time RVers.

This is an older book on RV living and as such it doesn't have much if anything in the way of solar for power, satellite dish for TV and computer use or other off the grid living information one needs in 2007+. But the information on mail, medical, fees for various things, and what type of floor plan for an RV vs a trailer are helpful. Am still looking for a newer book and one that speaks to the single woman who travels in an RV and alone.

As a student pilot, I found this book extremely educational, interesting, and scary at the same time. I don't think any pilot wants to spend their time reading about airplane crashes, we all hear about them enough from our friends and family that's for sure... but this book is an absolute must as the information is some the best advise any of us will ever get in our quest to be a better pilot. Any pilot, student or old-timer, should read this book more than once. My deepest thanks to the author for taking the time to write such a valuable tool that I will use for the rest of my life!

Paul Craig's book is also excellent for pilots who may be doing a lot of flying to attain the hours needed to advance their career. This book is essential for the main reason in that it dispels some myths about why planes go down. Most of the time when a plane crashes, it is due to pilot error and very, very seldom is it something mechanical related. Weather is always a factor but you will get more knowledge of that from an instructor as well as other reading material geared more towards that suject in concerns with flying.
Your own car, new or old will have more mechanical issues that keep you from getting from point A to point B than an airplane will. Definitely great education on the topic at hand, and although there may be others out there, this is not a bad place to start!

This book contains detailed review of pilot induced errors through many NTSB accident reports categorized by cause and commented by author. Many typical cases of pilot errors are selected to describe possible cause-effect scenarios. Author also presents statistical charts whose purpose is to warn students and low time pilots. Since I am PPL pilot student, I found this book a good source of information on GA pilot mistakes. If you are also low timer (50-350 hours) read it and fly quite a bit safer.
On down side I must mention it would be useful to see more photos and drawings from actual accidents.

Craig's research reveals weak spots in the planning and experience of many pilots, describing both intentional and inadvertent actions which commonly lead to accidents. Knowledge is power, but overconfidence can be fatal; nothing makes this more clear than The Killing Zone. Many, if not all, of the accidents Craig cites could have been avoided with proper planning or decisionmaking.
Outsiders might find it morbid, but a good pilot learns from others' mistakes and passes that knowledge on. Craig has done a great service to the aviation community with this important read - even pilots outside the Killing Zone (50 to 350 hours of experience) can benefit.

Timing is everything to read this book, which is really a song. Although the notes are at the end to hint how the words should be read, without hearing it sung first and reading it out loud in a dull monotonous fashion a toddler may look at the reader as if to ask "Why bother?" Then I heard it on one of the CDs and now the words flow beautifully and make me read and read, read and read, all through the night.
A great book with many things to talk about

I bought this when my daughter was 13 months, and after 7 months she still loves this book. There are different people in the bus - adults, kids, elderly, pets, etc., and many things happening on and off the bus.
When my daughter refuses to drink her milk, I'll turn to the page where the baby is happily drinking from the bottle, then she will take her cup and start drinking.
Try Raffi's CD as well. He sang the song to a cheerful tones with kids in the background - my daughter loves it.

Since I have a recent Quadrajet, 1986 with electronic controls, I needed to be able to rebuild my carburator without screwing it up. The performance modifications section wasn't of great value to me. The authors coverage of the APT was a bit superficial. He chose to advise the reader to count the number of turns to remove it, when in reality you need to count the number of turns til it bottoms out, then you know where to set it upon re-assembly. His advise was not to mess with it but put it back to the factory setting, assuming it was at the factory setting to begin with. Since I knew my carb was running rich to begin with, I leaned out the APT from where it was when I removed it and the authors APT test worked as described. My motor now runs nice and smooth.
Overall this was a very good book. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to understand how the Quadrajet works before taking one apart.

This book is a must when modifying or rebuilding your quadrajet. I have a 1969 q-jet and this book gave me the bravery to dig into my carb. I came out with flying colors as my car now runs like a top. Ruggles knows his stuff, and would love to meet the man someday!! They should call him "Quadman"

Overall, this book is an excellent supplement to Roe's book on Q-jets. The book should have been edited better for those who actually work on their carburetor (I would give 3 stars for editing, but entered 5 for content). The technical information I needed to make modifications to my carbs was there, however, usually in at least two or more places in the book. This is only a little irritating compared to not finding the info at all. I ended up making a spreadsheet from the info scattered throughout the book for a particular application so that I could have a one page reference. Flipping through the book while trying to work proves too slow. If you're going to actually work on a Q-jet, particularly to get better performance, or use on an engine swap or modified engine, you should consider this book a must have supplement to Roe.

I read this book about 10 times and threw it at the wall WHAT an incredibly stupid book. NO IT isnt I was though and all you need to know is there ITS actually a great book to learn with BUT it doesnt point out the key points to grasp very well BUT trust me its there you just need to pay attention to what mr horner is saying. If you pay attention and arent expecting some kind of miracle surge of electrical knowledge into your brain then this book will teach you how to wire a car from tip to tail. After my impatient little brain paid attention to mr horner I found that I understood electrical systems far better than most people and I could wire any brand of car because the basics are all the same from vw to lexus. THIS book is worth its price

Great book for learing how to wire a car from scratch. Although written in 1986 and a lot of references are made to kit cars and VW bugs (a favorite foundation for kit cars), this book explains how most things electrical work in your car, as well as how to create your own electrical system. Highly reccomended to anyone into restoring an old car or building a car from "scratch". Also get Haynes "Automotive Electrical Manual" to learn how to troubleshoot and fix a wiring harness, also highly reccomended.

I own a 1967 Karmann Ghia and my dad owns a 1968 Karmann Ghia. We are both very disappointed in this book. I did a lot of research before I bought it, and it seemed to have all the information that I needed. The wiring diagrams are weak, and it does not give any direction for rebuilding any of the components. The wiper motor went bad, and the book only said that it would be easier and cheaper to replace it. Once I opened it up it took me less than half an hour to fix, and that's including the it took my to fabricate one of the parts.
This book does have a lot of good general information (torque specs, type of oil/ gear lube needed, etc.) but it is far from a full restoration guide.
I have never used this book for a Beetle, but I imagine I would run into similar problems

I recently purchased my first Beetle, a 1961 model year. I intend performing a ground-up restoration. I just received my copy of this book and have read it cover to cover. This is a very honest book and offers easy step by step guides in servicing the vehicle and carrying out all mechanical repairs. What it doesn't cover in sufficient detail is any sort of body / interior restoration, but then it doesn't claim to do so. A great book and I'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty.

Jon Scieszka and company have created a terrific new book series with Trucktown. We already have "Smash! Crash!" and are anxiouly awaiting the next book in the series. In the meantime, "Who's that Truck?" has filled the void for my grandson; he loves identifying the trucks and associating them with the earlier book. There are lots of names to remember, so he goes over the various trucks and their jobs frequently. A good purchase - a great series for preK and K.

Lean production (now frequently called Lean manufacturing) has melded into several industries here in the United States, but back when this book was written, it was just catching on. Many of the concepts are still worthwhile in this book, both for the historical significance as well as the lean ideas presented.
The Machine that Changed the World is a fascinating book that teaches what the Japanese learned and how to apply their ideas to the US auto market. Competition is always tough, but these tools provides a competitive advantage to those companies who embrace them and make them part of doing business. Not all ideas are applicable to every application, but there are plenty of diamonds to be farmed here.
Well trained employees, a commitment to excellence by everyone (from the janitor to the CEO), teamwork, flexibility of skill sets, and learning lessons from successes and failures are all important elements of lean manufacturing. Setting up manufacturing lines efficiently, working closely with suppliers, line smoothing, encouraging innovative and cost saving suggestions and much more are also critical lean concepts.
Lean manufacturing doesn't happen overnight and a company and its employees must be diligent in their efforts to put high quality products at reasonable prices out the door.
The Machine that Changed the World is highly rated by many people and should be. It has timeless ideas to produce higher quality products and recommends never being completely satisfied. Well written and researched, this is a top notch book!

This book, though a revolutionary look at manufacturing (especially when it first came out) and specifically automotive manufacturing, is full of useful information, but dry as a cracker and boring to read if you're not an avid automotive industry enthusiast. If you are one like me, you'll enjoy it.

Lean production started with Henry Ford's car for the masses. Toyota took the old idea of customization combined with mass production to create their mass customization model. Quality is important in the product and focus on what is important to the client allows us to know what qualities make the most difference."If it aint broke don't fix it." Providing an affordable product was 20th century sales. Improving the improvements that are critically important to the client is 21st century marketing. The book proves it through the automotive manufacturing model.

If this this book had been required reading for everyone employed at Chrysler, Ford & GM, the US auto industry may not be in the dire position it is today.

This book provides an excellent introduction to lean techniques. I am college student majoring in mechanical engineering and needed something that could give me an overview of lean production and help me understand how it differs from mass production. The book certainly meets that criteria. While it does not give many case studies of how companies can convert to lean production, "Lean Thinking" by the same authors does do that and is also an excellent book.
The authors performed many years of research before publishing their data and can provide hard numbers to back up their claims that lean production is simply a better method. If you're looking for something to introduce you to lean production, this is the book to get.

I purchased this book for my three year old son who loves trains. This book has flaps, moving sections and pop ups everywhere. It has a great history of trains and a lot of fun facts. Great for even the little train engineers out there.
Good Info, but much TOO DELICATE!!

this is a good pop up book, but it is super delicate! the recommended ages is 4 - 8, but i would get it for a very careful 4 or 5 year old (if yours is a boy, i don't know of any!) i do like the information it has and the many different kinds of trains it depicts.
Excellent info, fun pop-ups but very fragile

The pop-ups are very intricate and detailed. However, I have to agree with the other reviews that say it is very fragile. Don't expect the pop-ups to stay pristine. I broke one before I even gave it to my son. One that required you to pull was stuck. I tried as carefully as possible to work on it and it still broke the support. I reglued, filed what was getting stuck and works fine now. My son loves it though, but he just turned 7. Not for real young children unless adults handle it only.
Great pop-up!

This is a great detailed pop-up for kids who enjoy trains. Not for young children, but wonderful for older ones. Even my husband likes this book!

This book showed me the entire process of car painting, from beginning to end. I successfully painted my commuter car that just won't die, two years ago, and the paint job is still looking good!
Painting a car, as a novice painter, is a VERY large undertaking (the worse shape the car, the more time it will take). This book does a good job of warning of that, but after doing it myself, I can reiterate how time consuming it can be.
The thing that this book is lacking is more talk about paint chemistry, what to look for in a paint, and how to mix the paint. I was able to piece the mixing together by talking to the people at the local PPG store (who seemed to know less than I did, after reading this book).
If you're considering painting your car yourself, I would recommend this book - it will give you good insight about how to do it, and gives a realistic picture of how difficult it can be. Just be sure that you're serious about the job, before you take it on.... it's time consuming, detail intensive, and you don't want to be the primer/bondo monstrosities that you see on the street, sometimes.

When I first started reading this book my first reaction was, "I better leave this to the professionals." As I got further in, I became more comfortable and decided to go for it. The step-by-step instructions and the illustrations made the job easy. I was very pleased with the results. I would recommend this book to anyone serious about attempting to paint their own car and getting the job done right.

Typical over load on words pertaining to auto body shop repairs and prep for painting,"but lacks in information on painting a car. Out of 159 pages of print there is only 6 pages that actually decscribes anything that ressembles painting. I wish i had known this before i wasted my money. I would not recommend this book.
