Caution: Lots of "dumb" and "stupid" in the text

I am all for books that are cool enough for young boys to read on their own - heck - we have every Capt. Underpants book in creation... but I was a little turned off by the text in this book. In the first few chapters alone, there were lots of "I hate her" and "She is stupid", "She is dumb", etc, etc. I'm not a total prude about these words - but the reading level of this book strikes me as "early 2nd grade"- meaning that this book is most likely to be read by 1st and 2nd graders. The negativity seemed a bit excessive to me. Also - it's one thing to think your school is weird, but the main character AJ goes into some detail about why he HATES school, talks about how mean the fifth graders are, and accuses another child of being a "brown-noser". (Try explaining brown-nosing to your 7 year old.) I just felt that it was generally a bit negative for the 1st and 2nd graders - most of whom still really like school, or you at least WANT them to like school at that age. Let's not tarnish their idealism already! Even Capt. Underpants is pretty upbeat and optimistic throughout its potty humor. I would not necessarily have minded all the "hate", "stupid", and "dumb" comments had my son been a few years older, at least in 3rd or 4th grade - but really, the reading level is not that high, and by age 9 or 10,there are much better books for them to be reading. Otherwise, I agree with the other reviewers that the book is a quick read, and humorous .. but not necessarily the kind of jaded humor that I felt like a 1st grader needed to read (nor did he really enjoy that type of humor).
A favorite of my kids and of mine!

My grade-school kids love the whole series of these books, either when they're reading by themselves or when I'm reading to them.
But this one is my favorite. "Stryker Smith is fighting Evil under the bus!", and the mini-eulogy by the kids "It's hard to be alive/When you don't have a head", I still can't help laughing just thinking about it. And we find out exactly why Neil Crouch is "Neil the nude kid".

My ten and seven-year-old boys LOVE reading the books in this series. They can completely relate to the main character, A.J., and his trademark opening line: My name is A.J. and I hate school". Of course, A.J.'s school is a fabulous place for boys and he can't help but learn things. All the books are quick and enjoyable reads.
This episode is about the bus driver, Mrs. Kormel, and a disastrous day on the way to school. My boys and I were laughing out loud through most of this book. We liked it so much, we gave a copy to our busdriver so she could enjoy it with her sons.

Mrs. Kormel is not Normal is about a crazy bus teacher that doesn't even know where the new kid's house is. The funny thing about the book is that they weren't allowed to kneel and crouch in the bus and somebody said if your name is crouch or kneel can you kneel or crouch on the bus and the bus driver said yes. Then Andrea said there is nobody named kneel or crouch but it ended up that the new kid was named Neil crouch. I would recommend this book.

My career requires that I read a lot of technical material and Guy's book is one of the most thorough that I have had the pleasure of reading. How great that we "Do It Yourselfers" have such a complete guide to help us accomplish our goals of reducing our carbon footprints.

Got the book, read the book, now making my own fuel!!! Easy, concise, and thorough. Mr. Purcella has written a do it yourself manual that anyone can understand....and if you don't there's always the website. This book comes at a time when we have to find an alternative to highway robbery!! Thanks Guy!

This in my humble opinion is the definitive resource for making biodiesel. It guides you through the whole process from outsourcing the raw product to putting it into your tank in clear and concise language. As diesel climbs higher and higher the realization of our misguided policy makers decisions and deeper dependence of our energy demands on foreign oil brings keen and painful awareness to do something now to avert financial catastrophe to our way of life. This book definitely has one of the answers to our uncertain future.

This was hard to follow. Seems like he went into too much detail for individual stages before giving the larger hows and whys. I bought this and William H. Kemp's book to get figure out what was involved with making biodiesel. This book's first chapter gives you the normal propaganda that you must have seen already to look at this book and review. The next chapter goes into detail about approaching and selecting restaurants for waste oil and how to pick it up and details of how to test it. Woah, I'm not there yet! For double the price I say go for the 5 star book instead Biodiesel Basics and Beyond: A Comprehensive Guide to Production and Use for the Home and Farm. This Do It Yourself Guide was shorter but somehow harder to get through.

I also felt this book was hard to follow. Purcella left out some details (because he wants you to send more money for the real info) while extolling the virtures of the system he sells. It seemed that I paid to recieve advertising for the plans he sells.

I read this book about 10 times and threw it at the wall WHAT an incredibly stupid book. NO IT isnt I was though and all you need to know is there ITS actually a great book to learn with BUT it doesnt point out the key points to grasp very well BUT trust me its there you just need to pay attention to what mr horner is saying. If you pay attention and arent expecting some kind of miracle surge of electrical knowledge into your brain then this book will teach you how to wire a car from tip to tail. After my impatient little brain paid attention to mr horner I found that I understood electrical systems far better than most people and I could wire any brand of car because the basics are all the same from vw to lexus. THIS book is worth its price

I already knew this stuff but it was a great refresher, as well as a excellent info source for automotive applications. I truely feel this was money well spent.

Great book for learing how to wire a car from scratch. Although written in 1986 and a lot of references are made to kit cars and VW bugs (a favorite foundation for kit cars), this book explains how most things electrical work in your car, as well as how to create your own electrical system. Highly reccomended to anyone into restoring an old car or building a car from "scratch". Also get Haynes "Automotive Electrical Manual" to learn how to troubleshoot and fix a wiring harness, also highly reccomended.

After reading it a few times to my son, I was surprised to hear him reciting the rhyme text back to me. We enjoy reading it together. The text is very simple but is perfect for a toddler. We learn names of different fruits, vegetables, and animals, as well as different ways of traveling. As all the Barefoot books he has, he loves it.

The illustrations are absolutely fantastic! they are beyond vivid its truly a feast for the eyes!
The story is simple and cause the illustrations are so perfectly done for a toddler it's very self-explanatory, Bear is traveling through the entire story on different means of transportation he goes to an island on a boat, to the market on bike, to a grand ball in a carriage and through the story the little boy is trying to keep up with bear but he just keeps missing "the boat" so to say. It's a very fun rhyming journey to introduce to little ones! This is our favorite of Stella Blackstone's Bear series its by far her best book!

Literally cram-packed with suggestions that'll keep your coach on the road instead of on the mechanic's lift. This book outlines what one should do and the possible consequences if they don't.
I've been criticized for reviewing RV books on Amazon since I co-authored the book, RV. Sorry, but I disagree. If you've logged 120,000 RV miles as I have, please do review RV books and if you write an RV book, I'll buy it.

An indespensible guide to RV maintaneance and care. This book is especially good for new RVers since it goes into a lot more detail than the typical owners manual and covers a wide variety of vehicle types. Photographs abound so show you what looks like what. I'd reccommend it for anyone who wants more details on how to take care of their rig.

My wife inherited a 1988 Winnebago (31 foot, no slide-outs) and we've decided to bring it up to speed for beach trips. This is one of two books I have bought to get started, it is the lesser of the two but still useful.
RV Repair and Maintenance Manual: Updated and Expanded (RV Repair and Maintenance Manual) is absolutely one the best car maintenance books I have ever had the pleasure of using (I also have a 1964 MGB and related maintenance books). This other book is brilliantly organized, crystal-clear, and I especially appreciate the full-page trouble-shooting guide with symptoms and fixes in two columns.
If you want only one book, buy the other book. I am not unhappy with this Owner's Handbook, I use it for overview reading, but it is not anywhere near as good as the Trailer Life book in terms of detail and trouble-shooting.

This is very handy guide.
We keep it on our MH and it really helps if you are trying to troubleshoot a problem with, say, the electrical or plumbing system.
It goes in-depth into systems and concepts that we as first-time owners have no clue about.
There is an extensive troubleshooting section that has definitely helped us on the road (where we didn't have internet or access to the forums on rv.net).
One complaint is that it is very general and completely non-vendor-specific, so it might not visually depict the EXACT system on YOUR rig perfectly, but it does give an exceptional general description about RV systems that can really help in a pinch.
I would definitely recommend this book, especially to any new or first-time RV'ers.

My 19 month old son LOVES cars. We checked this book out from the library and it is definitely my son's favorite book. I put it on my Amazon wish list, so hopefully someone will buy it for us. We've renewed the one we have 3 times now! :) The book has a lot of simple pictures of cars, simple words, and even a bus. My son gets very excited about the last page which has cars, a bus, and an airplane. My Car is a bedtime story request almost every night.

I bought this book at the same time as Jeff Van West's book, and
I found that even though the latter makes you go download the missions
from the Wiley website, they were still much more useful. The lessons
on the CD with this book had no more structure than say something I
might have saved while flying. If you are buying a book that is
real-aviation oriented, West's book is a must have, this I would take
a pass on.

For rank beginners to MS FSX, the first half of this book, while a bit lengthy could prove helpful. My major criticism is that the book makes a fairly big jump to what could have been more substantive and useful information. I bought the book with accompanying CD to help me prepare for real world IFR training in a single engine G1000 aircraft. While there are loads of example flights that let you practice departures, enroute navigation, arrivals, and approaches, there is little discussion and preparation for these examples. It would seem that the book might then be quite good for instructors who are already familiar with these concepts.
All in all, while well organized and obviously written by a devotee of FSX, it failed me in my IFR training.

The first few chapters offer more background then actual gaming tips. I would have liked to see more material on flying commercial airliners on flight simulator. This book concentrates on small planes.

I have wanted to get my pilots license since I was 13. I could never get the cash.
The Flight Sim Pilot Training on Flight Sim 2004 and Flight Sim X is OK but not great.
This book is so incredibly awesome when it comes to how you can use Flight Sim to lean how to fly and the things that you shouldn't. (Let's just say the computer program is a little "optimistic")
I have talked to so many trainers who told me dozens of stories about people who got their sport or private pilot license in a much shorter time and cheaper because of this book.
And my local flight school instructor told me the more I can learn in Flight Sim the better pilot I will be because when he goes over the stuff I need to know he will be reminding me of the things I already know and filling in everything else.
He says all his pilots who have used Flight Sim saved from $1000 to $3000.

This book is a great aviation safety book because it describes why accidents occur in aviation and what is done to prevent them. I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys aeronautics.

This is currently a required reading for ERAU. The author is very knowledgable; however, he needs a better editor. It is difficult to decipher the author's meaning at times due to his tendencies to ramble.
Possibly one of the worst educational books ever written

This book is by far the WORST book I have ever had to read. This book is required reading for ERAU. Our instructor said this is one of the most comprehensive books dealing with aviation safety, but it does not change the fact that the spelling and sentence structure is awful. It is full of contradictions and barely makes any sense. Do not buy it unless you absolutely, positively have to!

Concise, clear and through view of the inner and outer working environment of an aviators life. Very well researched and documented in an easy to understand format, no technojargon to confuse the novice. Required reading for any current or aspiring commercial pilots, and a must have for industry safety affiliates. Good use of informative and entertaining illustrations and graphs, not stuffy or boring. Up to date with current technology and encompasses history as well. This is an excellent book.

"Human Factors in Flight" is an excellent book in human factors for aviators that is well written in simple English making it easy to follow and understand by non-experts in the field. Human factors encompasses a wide range of knowledge, skills and attitudes including communications, situational awareness, problem solving, decision making, and teamwork.
Human factors is concerned with the cognitive and interpersonal skills required to manage the flight within an organised aviation system. In this case, cognitive skills are the mental processes required for gaining and maintaining situational awareness, for solving problems and for taking decisions.
Interpersonal skills include effective communications and good teamwork. Good interpersonal skills encourage the creation of synergy and the development of successful teamwork. Both cognitive and interpersonal skills are enhanced by a good emotional climate amongst the crew, but they are also easily degraded by stress, so management of the emotional climate and stress becomes and integral and important element of good human factors.
Safe and efficient flight operations depend for their success not only on the attainment of sound technical knowledge and skills but also on the mastery by aircrew of the cognitive and interpersonal skills which form the basis of good human factors.
Human factors is not merely an abstract management concept but rather is a discipline that embraces principles and skills which, when coupled with good technical knowledge and expertise, will allow the crew to make the best use of all available resources to realize optimum effectiveness in the conduct of operations whilst simultaneously maximising the safety of the flight.
This excellent book is recommended for all pilots and cabin attendants, regulators, safety managers and aeronautical engineering students.

In my opinion this manual is lame at best and largely useless to me because it does NOT cover all models. I bought it because I have a six cylinder L.L. Bean Outback and have waited 6 years for this to come out, and guess what? There is absolutely no mention of this engine in the manual and this engine has been around since 2000 or 2001. (Apparently I have a top secret engine in my 2002 Outback.) I guess if you have a four banger, it may be alright but I resent being snookered by the deceptive description of the contents. Shame on the author and Chiltons. Pass on this "manual." Spend your money on the shop manuals from Subaru and get something useable.

Pros: This manual can show you how to do just about anything in a fast\easy manner for your Subaru. Used it recently to learn all the tricks for changing headlight bulbs, took me a matter of minutes.
Cons: I have a 2000 and didn't like waiting so long for this manual to be released, I blame Subaru for making 6 years of similar cars, not Chilton.

This manual is significantly better the various other Chilton/Haynes manuals I've owned over the years. Usually it doesn't take long to discover critical information that's been left out- but I've had no such problems with this one. The photos and illustrations are plentiful and helpful.

Typical Chilton manual. For basic maintenance, this will help you get the job done. Don't expect this to be a factory manual.
This book is identical in content (word for word) to the Haynes manual. Their layout is slightly different. Buy one, but not both. Chilton seems to have larger diagrams, Haynes has more efficient print layout. Take your pick.

My son loves this book and (at three) can already read it. He knows the characters from the other Trucktown series books. The plot is paper thin, but of course he doesn't notice.
