This book is one to get for all ages.It lists all the brand motors of old. It gives the history of each motor which I found very interesting and helpful. It also gives a price guide of each motor and which I disagree with. The motor I have I would not sell for the price thats listed in the book. But it gives you the info on what you are looking for.

This is NOT a detailed repair manual, but rather a valuable history of outboards including many of the obscure makes such as the one you have leaning in the corner of the shed.

After reading the 2nd edition of Peter Hunn's The Old Outboard Book I couldn't wait to get the revised and expanded 3rd edition. I take the book with me when I go looking for old outboards and swap meets. No better reference exists in my opinion.

This book is stretched between a technical manual and a coffee table book way too tight. Hunn covers the larger manuf. with research that could be found on any historical website, and briefly touches on the rare and obscure in general descriptions. Do not rely on this book for technical information. Simply order specific parts lists for the motors you have. I would like to know if Hunn's other book was better as a picture book, as this one was too poorly written to be of any enjoyment.

This book has become the "Bible" for most outboard collectors. It has everything in one place. The big list of almost ALL known US outboard manufacturers, The price guide which is the only published guide of its kind, developed thru consultation with a good cross section of prominent and active collectors, Great Serial number guides, Spark plug charts, and much more. Peter's style is very readable, with a "story" connected to each brand. Hundreds of outboard collectors keep a copy in their car, while touring the country looking for additions to their collections. Most helpful to identify, and value that Garage sale or Outboard meet, find. HIGHLY recommended, especially for those new to the hobby.

Simply escape on a trip around the world

This book is a wonderful find! Very readable and compelling, the author unwittingliy tells the tale of his adventures around the world on a small boat that he built with his own two hands in New England near the turn of the century. The book is without pretense, at times is hard to imagine, yet the language is so simple and straightforward how can we do anything but believe his stories written in a down home style. This is a book that's easy to get lost in and holds your attention until the very last page. I read it while on the beach. I recommend that you do the same. The sound of the lapping waves makes the book that much more enjoyable.

this edition has no illustrations, a cheap edition, very frustrating because the book is very good. I was forced to buy another edition with the illustrations, but have had problems with the shipping from the vendor, the book has not arrived, so I will have to buy a third edition !! Very frustrating. The first time this has happened to me at Amazon.

I first read this book about 30 years ago, I think. I vaguely remember thinking it was dry, and now I'm amazed at myself. It is anything else but that, from today's perspective! First published in 1900, Slocum's prose reads fresh and crisp; and his sense of humor pleases me with its dryness. No wonder it's still around, over a century later.

Slocum, who worked his way up to shipmaster and owner after starting before the mast in the days when sailing ships still ruled international commerce, reached middle age in a different era. With his family grown, he accepted a friend's gift of a sloop that lay decaying in a field. Slocum rebuilt the SPRAY completely. Then he set out in her alone, to circumnavigate the globe.

He spent nearly three years in that successful effort. Newspapers followed his progress, and in port after port he made new friends and learned new things. Seasoned world traveler though he was, I got the feeling as I read that he hadn't had time for much of that learning on earlier voyages. He'd been busy looking after his ship, its cargo, and his family (who sailed with him). Now, off on his own with a freedom he hadn't known before, he savored each new experience and then recorded it for eventual publication.

"The author made me feel that I was there, too," is a cliche. But cliches come into being because they're true enough to invite over-use, and in this book's case the words fit perfectly. A classic for good reason!

Unbelievable story, a must read if there ever was one

This story is the greatest sailing story I have ever heard of. Joshua Slocum is so far out and such an indomitable human being that it is difficult to fathom without reading the story. This book is truly an exercise in understatement.

A large society of Slocum afficianados exists now, largely in response to this one book. I just this past friday saw a replica of the Spray, the vessel on which he made this unprecedented voyage, owned by an old sailor. The replica is named Joshua, and sails from Alameda California. I saw it because it was at the annual wooden boat festival in Port Townsend, Washington.

Spectacular.

Wish I had been a little more careful before I selected this edition. It's a tiny book with stiff pages and cover which doesn't stay open unless you want to break the spine. Just awful. I'll find a different edition at the library.

My three year old loves this book. From the pictures, to the words, to the page manipulations, it's one of his favorite. He hasn't really been into reading and this is the one that finally got him sitting and interested. For a while he walked around the house screaming "Red stop, Green go!" at the top of his lungs.

At first I was hesitant to buy anything with a flap or wheel. He has destroyed most every other book that had "quirks," and books with pages that don't do anything too. However, after receiving this for Christmas, it has survived without a single tear and he has become interested in other books.

Hopefully his book destroying days are over.

My son loves "Go Dog, Go". We purchased "Red, Stop! Green, Go!" book for a plane ride, and it gave us 30 minutes of great entertainment. He loves the book, and the interactive wheels are just the right size for 2-year old. Excellent compliment to the book "Go Dog, Go".

My 2-year-old loves this book. She is able to manipulate all the moving parts without ripping them out of the book. As a big 'Go Dog Go' fan, she also enjoys seeing the familiar characters and being able to make the dogs drive around in cars and jump in the water.

Just purchased a second copy!

My 2y-8m old daughter simply adores this book, and we have great fun reading it together. It has been lovingly read to pieces, and it's time for a new one. This book is, hands down, one of her top-notch favorites! When I read to my daughter, I become quite animated; well, this book, by it's very design, invites us to be as silly as we can, because we are in for a jolly good time!
I highly recommend this one!!!

This is a must have manual for the do-it-yourself who needs assistance making repairs to your vehicle. I did find at least one error where the section number did not correctly list the page number for the problem.

Wow, a repair manual!

I bought this manual for two reasons:
First, because the owners manual didn't describe in detail what should be greased as part of the regular maintenance.
Second, at some point I'll have mechanical problems with the truck and I wanted to have this manual on-hand when that happens.

I learned a lot from this manual relating to maintenace an inspection.
What I didn't expect was the tutorial on nut and bolt grades at the beginning of the book. It made for a good read ;)

Dazzling Diggers (Amazing Machines)

This was a gift for a four year old who is fascinated with construction machines and road work. He has added it to his bed time book reading collection.

A great book for little boys (and girls) who like big construction machines.

I purchased this book, as well as several others in this line of books, for my two-year-old son. He absolutely adores them and is mesmerized by them. And I can see why. The books are very well-written. The lines rhyme. The illustrations are gorgeous. I have never written a review before but had to come back and recommend this book, as well as the others in this series--tractors, airplanes, etc. They are all fabulous.

our 2 1/2 year old son is realy enjoying the whole "amazing machines" series. i like them too. they are fun, and the rhymes are clever. they even give me more to talk about with my son when we see different trucks that go by. i can "discuss" the truck parts, and the jobs that the trucks do. in my opinion, a very fun series that has helped me spend quality time with my little truck lover.

My twin toddlers love this book. The author has tapped into all their obsessions - diggers, trains, airplanes, fire engines and rockets - in his series. They love the rhymes and the simple text makes it easy for them to join in while you are reading. A real hit with the two year old boy set!

I purchased this book for my curriculum at school for my 4 year olds. But my grandson loves it so much that it hasn't made it to school yet. It is one of his daily favorites that we have to read multiple times. I love the informational components (he now knows what tracks, pistons, jacks, etc. are and what they do). I also love the rhyming component. It is a wonderful story especially if your child loves machines.

When you first lift, or attempt to lift this book, you know right off you got your money's worth!

This is now my prize Titanic book, the only one close to it is "Anatomy of the Titanic" by Tom McCluskie. But this book blows that one out of the water, and the sheer amount of construction pictures and diagrams are outright insanity. My favorite aspect of Titanic and her sisters is the construction of the ships, and this book caters to people like me in a grand way!

The most interesting Titanic book I've gotten in a LONG time. Lit up my facsination all over again. Get it. NOW!

A Rivet Counter's Delight

Review Date: 2008-07-19
Among Titanic buffs, a "rivet counter" is a person whose primary interests in the Titanic lie in the direction of the physical details of the great ship rather than with her passengers or the drama of her last voyage.

"Titanic: The Ship Magnificent" is an unmatched resource about the physical ship. Printed on glossy stock with hundreds of diagrams and photographs (some from Titanic herself, others from her sister ship, Olympic, and other vessels of the era) the two massive volumes (Volume One deals with design and construction, Volume Two with interior decoration) cover virtually every imaginable aspect, from fabrication techniques used in constructing the hull to the various designs of First Class water closets (and china patterns).

I have a goodly number of "Titanic" books and have never seen anything that could remotely rival this set for portraying the physical reality of the ship. Obviously, this is not a work for the general or casual reader, or even a good overall account of the ship's fatal voyage, but any rivetcounter (or anyone with just a touch of that disease) would find these books endlessly fascinating.

Oh, and how many rivets? About three million were used to construct the Titanic's hull and superstructure.

If, like me, you like to know every thing about the Titanic. If you are fascinated about this great ship, you have to own these two really magnificiant books. Many pictures, I hadn`t seen before.. Although I already have many books about that great ship, I have learned many new things about her. I do not regret that I add these two wonderful books to my Titanic books`collection and I recommand that you buy them if you are a truly fan of the Titanc ; More than ordinary books, these books are pieces of collection.

Belongs in every serious Titanic collectors library.

I have previously raved about Volume II in this series (which came out before Volume 1) and I will do so again here. This is meticulously researched and photo/illustration rich. This volume covers the building and hardware fitting out of the TItanic. Most of the illustrations come from her sister ship Olympic, but there are also many rare photos and illustrations here directly from the Titanic as well. From bulkheads to Marconi machinery, it is all here. Note that this does NOT include any of the "Titanic Story" -- this is pure, factual, blue-print type material about the ship itself, not it's sinking, its passengers, nor its crossing. I have been pouring over both of these volumes now for weeks, and just love them.

The book is geared, no pun intended, to the beginner but regardless of your level of experience it has some great tips to think of when doing a project, especially, as the book is focused on when you are on a budget.

I was disappointed that my bike, a 1983 FLHTC Shovelhead, was left out. I was further disappointed that the timeline showed the FLHT/FLHTC to start in 1984 as if this version started when the Evolution showed up. My bike has the FLT frame, 1340cc Shovelhead, FLH Fairing with an oil encased secondary chain drive. I believe it came out late in '83 and probably was highly overshawdowed by the Evolution version. Anyhow, thought I'd pass this on to anyone who cares to read this. See ya out there on the Highways and Bi-ways... Shovelheads Rule!!

I very much liked this book. It doesn't go deeply into Harley history, it goes just deep enough so that one feels some sense of how American motorcycles, especially H-D and Indian, evolved. For me what's best about this book are the large beautiful photos of the old Harleys, chronologically organized, in original unmodified condition. The old bikes from the mid 30's to mid 50's are truely gorgeous. I can spend hours admiring and comparing photos. This book gives me the urge to own one of these old Harleys.
