Transportation Books

The book hits the right topics and has lots of illustrations, but the writing is soulless. This makes some of the explanations hard to understand. The section on basic flight physics, for instance, is incomprehensible. On the other hand, the sections on variometers and total energy systems are quite clear. It's as though the book were a slightly expanded checklist written by several different aparatchiks all of whom lean heavily on government-speak. This is a good study guide for the written exam, but I wouldn't take it in isolation. It needs accompanying books (by Piggot, Stewart, or Langewiesche etc.) to make it complete.

A serendipitous find that changed my perspective on energy policy. I was looking for a how-to book and ordered this one "by mistake." I was somewhat skeptical, but the author held my attention through the entire book. By the time I completed the last page I was convinced that my attraction to plug-in hybrids was correct and my world view had changed considerably.

The title should read :- "Plug-in Hybrids; the Cars that will Transport the World". Sherry Boschert has done a wonderful job in drawing all the pieces together. It is a "must read" for those who have an interest in our transport future. I sincerely hope that by the year 2012, it will be completely implemented. However, I feel that the automobile industry and the oil companies will both fight very strongly, against the adoption of PHEV's. Also, the Governments of the world, will not be sufficiently forceful, to demand, that the automobile manufacturers produce quality PHEV's. They are our only answer, to vehicle pollution of our planet.

I like this printer cartridge, I think it actually prints better than the original. I was not sure it was going to fit, it looked different from the original cartridge. When I inserted it it locked right into place.
Definitely would recommend these, and will probably buy another one to keep as a spare.

This book exposes American car companies indifference towards environment and national energy security. A must read for every American who cares about environment and terrorism.

This book gives an unbiased view of what our options are as Americans on reducing and virtually eliminating our dependence on foreign oil. It also gives the pros and cons of alternative fuel sources as well as the great advantage of plug in hybrids over hybrids currently being sold.

My son is really into Titanic and we both had a great time coloring all of the beautiful pictures in this book! This to me is a MUST BUY if you have a little one who loves Titanic. Heck, as an adult I love this.

Titanic coloring book is great for kids. The book is great because the wonderful pages of art are masterpieces when you color them, there also great for tracing too or helping you draw your own titanic picture. The book i say is for all ages,yes including you grandpa.
THE BOOK IS JUST FUN!!!!!!

My 5-year-old son is infatuated with the Titanic! This was the perfect and age-appropriate gift for him. He had the whole book colored in about three days, but I must admit, I colored some with him - and enjoyed it! The illustrations are superb and the text is also good! Chock-full of interesting facts.

A book that invites children to color in scenes from a well-known disaster is probably as horrifying, as sinking in the ship itself. After being exposed to the media hype and all of the other coverage surrounding the film release and the Oscars, the last thing I would want is for children who color, which means they are usually of pre-school age, let their imagination run wild with a box of crayons. Studies have shown that children are attracted to color, and I can just imagine the 64 crayola packs famed magenta coloring the dresses of the woman jumping into the life boats. The cries for help written in block letters and sky blue for the bitter cold water that took so many lives. Maybe they can start a companion series and have children color in scenes from Kobe or perhaps the fateful plane crashes on the twentieth century. This coloring book makes me worship teletubbies, as I pray to Barney for salvation.

I'm a batman fan, and I drive a batman themed car (google: Batmini). As such, this was pretty much a must have as a collectors item for me. I wish it was a little less childish, but it is what it is. And it will serve well as an in-car discussion piece.

The Batmobile: Owners Manual

Some books just need to be looked at from a distance and admired. Have you ever seen any like that? The art shimmers. The layout sparkles. The art speaks...you don't need to read to appreciate.

The "Batmobile Owners Manual" is like that, except to fully experience this book, you must open the lenticular cover of the new Batmobile with the flames shooting out the back. All this cover needs is a voice chip...Vroom...atomic batteries to power....

If any book has testosterone, this is it! Really. The cover rocks, but the interior design and text by Mike Avennie is oustanding. Not many people have really got to stand beside the Batmobile and read the spec, or touch the dash, but now you can. Mike discusses the dashboard, weapons and defense, the test chamber, the forensic lab, the wheels, and a really cool Batcave page reminiscent of the Neal Adams design from the 70's. They haven't forgotten the classic Batmobiles either, so don't get your cape in a knot. George Barris is accounted for.

DK has taken a page out of Insight Editions' design crew and made many of the pages fold out and fold up with pockets and touch me panels. Ever want to match the Bat car, check the color swatches out.

Probably the best thing in this book is the trouble shooting manual. If your voice command doesn't work, what do you do? Onstar won't help with this one, but resetting the computer might.

Can't say why I love this book so much. Perhaps it brings out the kid in me. Will they ever do one like this for the Classic 60's version?

For years I've been hoping for a book on the many Batmobiles in print and film. I have long collected articles and models of/on Batmobiles. I took a chance on this one, not knowing what it was about. I guess I should have waited until I saw it first. I have no clue as to what Batmobile is in this book. It's not one that I recognize. It appears the author dreamt up his own version, and wrote a book on it. Not there's anything wrong with that, per se, but I think potential buyers should know up front that they won't recognize this particular Batmobile. If you, like me, are waiting for a book that covers the many TV, film, and comic book Batmobiles, you'll have to wait a little longer.

You really can't go wrong with SS! All the books and movies are wholesome and entertaining. I love reading them to my daughter and watching the movies with her. Actually, my son loves them too but would never admit it to his friends (he's 9). Good thing he has a little sister ;)

My daughters love Strawberry Shortcake, and I like the lessons that these books teach. I am so glad that they are introducing new characters who live in far off lands. This book talks about Strawberry's friends from other countries and their cultures. Strawberry visits her friends and learns about things they do in their homes, languages they speak and the clothes they wear. I think that my girls would benefit from having a penpal from another country just like Strawberry. My daughters also liked the recipes.

My daughter has just about every Strawberry Shortcake book that Amazon sells, and this is one of her favorites. It has four cute postcards in it and some stickers. The pictures are also really cute.

I found a lot of the information useful in this manual, but it was lacking detail that would have made some of the repairs that I made easier. For example, when replacing my clutch fan on front of my engine, it did not mention that there was an access point at the bottom of the fan shroud. After a couple hours of fiddling with it from the top, I finally found that out by removing that single piece. It could have included an illustration or note that depicted that. Anyway, if you want more detail, I suggest a service manual from another source.

The Haynes manual has become an essential part of my garage, lot's of stuff is explained in a no-nonsense way so even us foreigners can understand. I bought my version when working in the U.S. some years ago. The only thing wrong with it (apart from those darn U.S. measurements) is that there is no info on the 2.2 litre 4Y gasoline engine that we have in Europe. Nevertheless the manual is still agreat co-mechanic/tutor.

If you had any interest in motorcycles, if you are above 45 and if you had lived in States for a while, then you would know Hell's Angels. All the myths about them had been around for a long time. Who can forget Steve McQuin's motorcycle jump in the Great Escape?

It is a nice book for reading the urban motorcycle myths from first hand, I enjoyed reading it very much.

You'll not be able to put this one down! It's serious, it's saddness but most of it is hilarious! Sonny did a great one Here!! If you love the biker lifestyle buy it! It's one damn good read!!

I bought this book for my brother-in-law. So I had to ask him what he thought. He told me how much he enjoyed the book. So buy this book for anybody that is a biker or a biker at heart.

This isn't really a biography, but more of a collection of stories from Sonny Barger. A lot of them are very funny, and some of them are tales from the road that would make anyone want to hop on a motorcycle. The problem with this book is the introduction when Sonny Barger tells you that some of the stories may be true, and some of them may not be true. He leaves it up to you as you read, but either way the stories are fun to read, and some of them will have you laughing for quite awhile. He even goes outside of the Hell's Angels into other clubs he's aware of and other people he knows sharing stores from them, one of them was on the Dragons leader who was about to buy a Honda until his club members knocked on his door and asked him if it was true.

Word of warning, although this book is probably excellent as well in the elements of yacht design, the most current edition is the 8th edition, not the reprinted 6th edition. Please note that the 8th edition contains more modern construction methods and materials. Unfortunately the 8th edition is out of print so it is kind of difficult to find. (Published in 1973 and later) Good luck and good designing.

Orig published in 1904 and re-issued in '27, '35, '38 and 2001. Heavy on math, (lots of formulas) excellent drawings and charts. Includes some on power yachts, including hydroplanes. The principles remain the same. Excellent reference, but probably a little much for the true beginner.

A proven book on Yacht Hydrodynamics, often out of Print but relatively recently available again. Note that emphasis is on Design, which in this case refers to the particulars of Hydrodynamics of Yachts and not as some might assume to mechanical engineering or even interior decorating.

This is the classic book on yacht design. The "Manual of Calculations" at the back of the book is worth the cost of the entire book. More detailed/scientific than most other books on the topic of Yacht Design. Tends to focus a bit to much on rules-based-sail racing (from my persepctive) but otherwise excellent- a must have if you are planning to design anything that floats!

This is a very useful and informative manual. I will continue to use it for years to come.

This book did help me to change a water pump in the lower unit successfully. It was
easy to follow once I idenitified which motor my boat had. Make sure you pay
close attention to the order you remove parts. The pictures are clear, however
they don't always show every small detail, especially when replacing washers, or
bolts. I saved over $200 dollars on one repair by purchasing the book. Looking
forward to saving a few more dollars when something else goes wrong.

The first thing that I needed this book for was to replace a broken belt. The belt is in a difficult place to get at in the engine. This book does not even address HOW or The STEPS to replace this belt. I was dissapointed; however, the rest of the information in the book looks helful should I need to use it in the future.
