The problem with the guide is that it tries to cover all the different models in one book, but ends up not being specific
enough for a given model. I found I have to constantly read between the lines to figure out what actually needs to be done
on my 1997 Silverado.
I am going to try the Hanes.

Very good retelling of the 1913 avalanche, with nearly 100 killed the worst in US history, involving social, technical, and
political crosscurrents which Krist turns into a compelling and inexorably chilling story.

historical facts in a style that makes it exciting to read.

The best kind of non-fiction writing

This book is the best kind of non-fiction. The historical rigor doesn't get in the way of the narrative flow of the story,
but the narrative flow doesn't water down the historical rigor, either. I think the main reason for this is that the author
is primarily a novelist; this is his first non-fiction book.
As he unfolds the story, it becomes an edge-of-your-seat tale of suspense. You can almost hear ominous soundtrack music welling up in the background as the snow falls and falls and falls, the railroad workers make nearly superhuman attempts to clear the tracks so the stranded trains can get off of the mountain, and the passengers sit at the base of a thousand-foot high mountain with millions of tons of unstable snow above them.
While he's telling the human stories, he also explains the background of mountain pass railroading, the economics of the industry, and the technological limitations the equipment of the day created. At the end of the book, he explains the legal issues that arose as a result of the disaster. Most important, he makes it clear that nearly everyone involved made the decisions he made for the best of reasons, even though some of those decisions turned out to be disastrously wrong.
Though the Wellington avalanche is the worst such disaster in US history-- and one of the worst train disasters, too-- in the hundred years that have passed, it has faded into oblivion. The site of the disaster has, too, having been abandoned by the railroad since 1929.
On the one hand, that's just the way it goes; new events push old events into the past. On the other hand, that's a real shame. There are lessons in the Wellington avalanche about corporate responsibility, technological hubris, and government oversight that we might well benefit from.
This book is nearly perfect non-fiction. It's a fast, entertaining read that also teaches the readers important lessons. I recommend it most highly.

This is a wonderful book about the train disaster of 1910 where The White Cascade was swept off the mountain by a massive
avalanche. Generally I am not into "disaster books" but this one caught my eye because I had been hiking in the former Wellington
area of Stevens Pass the summer before. I knew the "end of the story" but wanted to learn more.
I expected to learn something about the regional history and of the railroad in particular (and was not disappointed, but was most surprised by how much life Krist brought to the story. His background information and detail on passengers and workers created the kind of empathy and suspense that I would normally associate with a book of fiction. It is obvious that his research was extensive and that he took the time to learn a different side of people than what we normally see in books of history. The end result is a real page-turner and I found myself staying up all night to finish the book, even though I already knew what happened. I guess in this way the book is like a train ride where the excitement is in journey. I could not recommend this book more.

This book is a typical Haynes manual. If you do repair on your own vehicles, then you have probably used one at some point
in time. They do a great job of covering 99% of the repair jobs you might encounter. There is also a part that covers troubleshooting
of problems and a small section that explains a little bit about the options. After market products, of course, aren't covered
in these nor is this a book for the total novice. It does assume some knowledge about the way a car works and an understanding
of basic mechanical procedures. But definitely a must for anyone that wants to do any kind of work on a vehicle on your own.
These books are a bargain for the information that they have in them.
Excellent book, provided that you know how to use it.

I've always been an avid user of the Haynes and Chilton's manuals; I purchased this one at Amazon because none of my local
parts stores carried the manual for my car (a 2003 Chevy Malibu).
If you're familiar with the Haynes/Chilton's books, then you will not be disappointed. The terminology is advanced, so if you know nothing about cars and are hoping for a basic-language, easy-read instruction manual, this won't help. However, if you're familiar with cars (which I would hope you are, if you're attempting to repair one yourself), this book is exactly what you need to get the job done.

Very nice text for working/restoring a Volkswagen Beetle, and even other air cooled relatives (mechanicals, headliner, door
overhaul, and others). It is almost full color, which is a treat. The only problems I have with it is it is a soft cover
(can get damaged easier) and some aspects are left to the experts. Oh, and it is in British English, which is not really
a problem, and makes the text more interesting. ;-)

My grandchild is 8 yrs old, and Autistic, this is an excellent source for preparing a child , of what they will realistically
experience, while riding on an airplane for the first time..... Right down to the bump that sounds when the landing gear come
down for landing... Very detailed and covers everything from arriving at airport to the seats, safety, flight attendants....
Worth every penny

I have flown with my daughter several times, but we're flying again in June and she will be a week away from two years old.
Since I'm also taking my infant son (he'll be nine months), I thought I should do as much as I could to prepare her for the
plane trip... you know, she's much more inquisitive now, and much less likely to accept "pat" responses for her questions!
This book is great! We've already started to read it, and she loves all of the sound effects that it calls for! It talks
about all of the noises, and things that happen on the airplane, so by the time we get there, we should (hopefully!) be able
to read the book and recognize what's happening. I especially love that at the end it shows the little boy running to his
grandmother. Since that's where we're headed, it's helped to make it more real for her!
Great book, definitely recommend for toddlers and above... really a book that grows with the child.

This is such a great book! The illustrations are bold and colorful, and the text is simple but encourages a lot of play and
interaction during the reading of the book. The text has a nice rhyme and rhythm, and actually gives a straight-forward explanation
of what are all those sounds you hear on the plane, in only a few words!
My two-year-old loves this book -- he "reads" it to himself, and to me. (He has it memorized.) The noises that are part of the book make this story accessible to very young children. The book really draws a child into participating in reading, rather than just asking us to read it to him.
I would recommend this book to anyone with pre-school age children, especially if they are interested in airplanes or machine noises.

This isn't a book you sit down and read, take some notes on, or highlight. I found myself reading it lightly to familiarize
myself with what info was where, then going back (many times) and studying short sections when I was thinking through some
scenario, critiquing an earlier flight, or getting ready for a flight.
For students, this takes off-airport operations far beyond what you'll get from reading any required material. And probably tells you things you'll otherwise have to figure out on your own or from chance opportunities from flying with a high-timer. If I'd had it for my private, I'd have skimmed it right before starting confined space and pinnacle operations--this goes into way more detail than the RFM does. I can't imagine that this wouldn't also greatly benefit the commercial pilot or those moving from air taxi and tour operations to external loads and other cool skills (there are chapters on external load operations, night flying, and things I won't get to do for years).
On the downside, sometimes the writing is a little awkward and confusing. The perspective offered by this manual overrides any negative tho.

Frankly speaking, after having received "Helicopter Pilot's Handbook Of Mountain Flying & Advanced Techniques",I underestimated
the value of the book, due to size,i.e. 96 pages. But the book prooved its value by reminding me its content. There are many
advices for pilots who are earning their lives over mountainous terrain.
At the beginnig,i decided to highlight important lines, but I decided not to do so,because every line is essential to remember.
