"Karting: Everything You Need to Know": while useful, the book did not meet my expectations. I expected a more detailed "Technical" publication. While this is OK for raw beginners, not recommended for someone looking for a more technical solutions & "Hints & Kinks" format.

Good for it's intended purpose

This is a well written and illustrated book. If you have no or little knowledge of karting and kart racing, this book is a great start and a great overview. If you have been to a race or two and just bought a kart and want help making it go, this book is not for you.

Excellent info for the new or experienced karter!

My daughter has been racing for 1 year (won 1st place in her class last year), this the beginning of her second season. She is gaining experience, but this book provides some advanced info like running the proper line, taking corners efficiently, etc. It has excellent photography too that assists with explaining the info more clearly.

what was that?

well, saying the truth I've expected something much more concrete...the authors are just beating about the bush. You will learn all around and nothing about. No attention to the main thing in karting - driver. No driver technique or tricks described.
But maybe it could be useful for someone who just don’t really understand what is karting.

Great book for beginners about kart set-up.

As someone who has been involved in go kart racing for over 25 years I disagree with the first review of this book. Book has some good info about the most important part of kart racing, which is kart chassis set-up, not the driver. In my opinion kart racing is about 10% motor, 10% driver and 80% chassis set-up, which includes the proper tires. If you get a kart handling right it is a breeze to drive it.
The book does have a section on driving as well as sections on motor choice, the history of karting, safety, kart tuning and more. For a beginner wanting to know about all aspects of kart racing, this book is as good as any and much better than most.
There are other books on the market that cover just the driving aspects of karting, if that is what you're looking for.

I like the book. It is very clear so kids can see how to follow the dots. My only problem with the book is that I would like the marker to be attached with a long string. That way the marker is always with the book and not lost in the house waiting to be used on something it shouldn't be. Parents that also don't like the string could just cut it off. Other than the marker issue i think the book is great for toddlers.

A little too advanced my 2 1/2 yr boy

Let me start with, "I love this book." Each page is filled with all kinds of activities & pictures of 'things that go.'

Kids can look at a picture & matching word, trace, and write & draw; spot the differences between two pictures; draw the other halves/finish the drawing of the vehicles; complete the missing letters in the words; trace different shapes of lines; guess the pattern; count and write the numbers; trace the shapes; classify; learn how to draw a bike; join dot to dot; practice writing numbers and letters.

But, this was a little more advanced than I thought for my 2 1/2yr. I think it's just a right level for my almost 4yr boy.

Excellent

A very motivating book for OT. Has vehicles, letters, and other writing strokes. Excellent pictures for visual learners. Reusable pages of things children are interested in. Also good to find "what's missing?" and then draw it in. Another excellent Priddy book.

Great for toddlers of all ages!

I bought this for my 2 yr old son because he loves cars, trucks, etc. He absolutely loves the book! Not only that, but my 4 yr old daughter loves it too! The pictures are great for practicing drawing, writing and tracing but it also reinforces counting, colors, etc. The pages wipe off VERY easily and the built-in pen holder makes it convenient to take with us on trips. We loved them so much, we bought the rest of the series!! We have a LOT of drawing, coloring and other kinds of books, but the kids come back to this series constantly.

Marker is permanent!

These books are great for learning, but don't let your toddler get the marker on their clothes!!! It does NOT come out! I have tried everything!

The book has a lot of pictures of the different parts of the engine from different manufactures with descriptions. This however does not go into detail of what will work with what. Does not go into detail on rebuilding an engine. It is of some use just not what I thought it would be. A better title would be "The Aircooled VW Engine Picture Book".

Nice title.

Supposing you are an inexperienced owner of a VW Type I engine wishing to hot rod, it's a good idea having this book in your hands, as well as the following titles:
º How to Hot Rod Volkswagen Engines - Fred William Fisher
º VW Beetle Performance Handbook - Keith Seume
Reading all these titles before spending money with auto parts worth it.

Good overview of whats available

An informative book but not a first book to buy if youre interested in VW hotrodding. It would, however be an interesting companion to Bill Fishers Hot to Hotrod VWs book. NO detailed dyno tests in this book and it might make inexperienced owners want to build a drag race engine for the street, in which case they will encounter lots of problems as drag engines are not meant for street use. Nice to have though.

I wanted aircooled engine info. The title of this book should be Type 1 engine interchange manual as there is no info at all on other vw dub aircooled engines and the info that is there is not complete as a quick look at any vw performance site catalog will show. SO is it worth the price if you want type 1 info YES it is

This is one of the first Usborne Books I bought for my family, way before I became a consultant for the company. My youngest loved it. The text is rhythmic, the touchy-feely aspect is very attractive to babies and toddlers and there is a mouse on each page for your child to point out. This series is great for vocabulary development, especially those adjectives. For a long while my child would say "that's not my ... " in many situations such as in the parking lot going to our car. "That's not my car, it's too blue." "That's not my car, it's too big." It became a very enjoyable game for us! I call these the "potato chip" books because you can't have just one!

My nine-month old loves this book--he spends a lot of time just flipping through the pages and checking out the different textures. Very simple text is balanced by very sturdy, brightly colored pages. Slightly larger than most board books, too. It's a great deal for the price.

This is my son's favorite book. I started reading it to him when he was about 3 months old and he still loves it at 9 months. (When his toddler friends visit, they read right along too.) The simple but bright graphics really hold his attention and he now loves to feel the different textures on each page. This was such a hit that we now own That's Not My...: Train, Tractor, Dinosaur, Puppy and Teddy Bear!

This book is an excellent automotive resource for novices and motorheads. I would definetly suggest purchasing this book if you have car problems or if you simply want to learn more about the technical aspects of your automobile.

a good book overall

I think this book is pretty good for the 'mechanic wannabe' who's just getting started (like me). All the 50 projects are implemented with photos which is pretty neat. At the end of each chapter, there is a troubleshooting chart listing common problems associated with the specific components that are discussed in the chapter.
Now, after reading this book, I think some projects could have been a little more detailed, and some other a little less: The project on 'how to fill coolant' takes two pages front and back, but the one on 'how to change thermostat' only takes one...
Also, some projects explain how to replace such and such part, but it doesn't explain why you would want to replace these parts if your car breaks down:
* "how to replace distributor cap and rotor"; sounds great, but how do I know that these are the parts I need to replace if my car breaks down? It doesn't say anything about that in the electrical troubleshooting chart in this chapter.
* "How to replace the starter"; sounds great too, but where do I find it? there's no diagram in this book that shows you where to look under the hood, beside a picture of a car, at the beginning of the chapter, with a front mounted engine (my car, like most front wheel drive nowdays, has an engine mounted sideway); and the car used as an example in this project is different than mine.
Anyway, the point is, a little more details would have been nice.
However, it is a decent book and it gave me a better comprehension of how things work under the hood. It also gave me more confidence to work on my car.
My advice is: buy this book to familiarize yourself with cars, and learn very basic car maintenance stuff such as changing your oil, checking your fluids, tires etc.
For bigger projects like 'how to replace a water pump' (project 29), this is probably not the book you need.

From helpful troubleshooting charts and maintenance routines to color photos and diagrams, this 'real world guide' is a pick

Auto expert Paul Brand offers consumers all the basics and blends his repair advice into a visual format to provide novices with the easiest tips in HOW TO REPAIR YOUR CAR. It doesn't get much more basic than this: fifty step-by-step projects can be done with a few simple tools yet can save thousands. From helpful troubleshooting charts and maintenance routines to color photos and diagrams, this 'real world guide' is a pick not just for car owners but for general-interest libraries.

If you don't know how to maintenance your nighthawk CB750 this is a great reference tool. Even if you don't generally maintenance "things" this will help save you a bundle for the small adjustments that make your ride so much better. I haven't found anything wrong with this manual and I would recommend this to my best friend who owns a CB750.

I recently picked up a '92 Honda Nighthawk 750 for my brother. He's a re-entry biker, like me. What's important to have is a good sense of what you're in for when you get a new bike, especially if you've been out of the hobby for awhile.

This book clearly provides just about everything you need to know, from basics to deep internal mechanics. It's written clearly (for the most part), and it has very detailed diagrams & photos.

great book- helps if you already know engines

1st off, there are NOT a lot of other options, but it's OK as this manual is really pretty thorough. The Nighthawk is my 1st bike, so the Clymer manual is a great walkthrough of the working parts and maintennance routines necessary to keep the bike running smoothly. The electrical diagrams and troubleshooting sections are quite good for even the novice to follow, and of course, the top end diagrams are excellent (very similar to a Haynes auto manual).

I needed help with my 1995 CB750. Clear examples and a lot of information. Much better than the factory manual which was impossible to get for my bike. For those new to wrenching the chapter on shop procedures is a good guide to see if you are getting in over your head. Save time & money, learn about your ride from the inside out. Recommended

Review Date: 2007-02-17
My daugher (18 months) loves this book. She even refers to it as the "go" book. I like to read it by mimicking the speed of the text. I slow down when it says "slow slow slow" and I read it fast when the train is moving fast. From an adult's perspective, I would have preferred it to be written better, but it's fine for a child. However, I don't think it necessarily teaches bad grammar.

Now that I know this is the abridged version, I'll have to look for the full version. That probably explains why the story seems incomplete (especially at the end).

A good book overall.

The board book is pretty sturdy, so it should withstand plenty of readings. The illustrations are surprisingly detailed for their style. The text flows nicely; it has a good rhythm. There are a lot of things to talk about here: a hat that flies off, a cow who moos at Thomas as Thomas peeps back, and a dog beside the tracks. The fact that the whole story is about Thomas taking a judge to a train show means that a great variety of engines appear at the end, and Harvey shows up on an earlier page.
If you are bothered by the use of "slow" (as opposed to "slowly") as an adverb, you might want to skip this one. Thomas "goes slow" repeatedly.
Additional note: I didn't realize that the board book was an abridged version of Go, Train, Go! until my son got the full version for Christmas. The two books have very different rhythms, and the full version has quite a few more pages. There's even a goat in the longer book, but there's no goat in the board book. Initially, I liked the rhythm of the board book better, but the other version is growing on me.

This book was a required purchase four our A&P classes. I found too many errors, but most disturbing was the brevity with which the book treated many subjects. Our classes always had to supplement this book with other author's works. Not that I expect one book to cover everything, but the brevity was glaring on many subjects.
