Fly the WingReview Date: 2005-07-22
Outstanding and ComprehensiveReview Date: 2007-05-06
This is a fantastic book that comprehensively covers the areas pertaining to flying large aircraft. It is well written and interesting to read and follow. Few books cover this subject so expertly and clearly as this one.
The areas covered range from aircraft performance to instrument flying and weather. The experienced pilot as well as the newly minted ones will benefit immensely from the enlightening and erudite presentation.
Overall, an excellent book that every career minded pilot should possess and thoroughly read.

The Best Book on Transport Category Flying, Period.Review Date: 2003-11-09
Jim Webb makes this information come alive and makes often difficult to grasp (or remember) concepts like weather and aircraft performance second nature. I have instructed in many models of jet transports, and when I can't find an answer to a tough question, I never fail to refer to my well used copy of "Fly The Wing." Many of Webb's examples reference information specific to the DC-9 and L-1011, but understand that the general points being made translate equally well to all commercial jets. As a side note, I have been to school on both the DC-9 and L-1011, and Webb's information is as good as gold, which reinforced the solidness of the underlying text for me.
If you are a turbine pilot now or have any interest at all in becoming one, this book is absolutely indispensable to have on your bookshelf. If you are a student, private, or new commercial pilot, this book has loads of accessible, relevant, and important information for you. Don't worry about the turbine specific information and you will still find this a most worthwhile book to read. No pilot should be without it!
How to fly large airplanes and pass check ridesReview Date: 2002-01-19
Where 'Stick and Rudder' is perfect for a Cub student 'Fly The Wing' is perfect for the SAAB 340 or B-757 student. It's one of my most dog-eared books, as I try to read it before every training session. Covers in detail all major procedures required to master handling a large airplane. Written by a master who learnt to fly with a barnstormer, earned two Distinguished Flying Crosses flying B-24's, and retired as an airline check airman with 35,000 hours and 500 students taught. If you are going from a Cessna to an RJ, buy this book now.

Excelent text for the private pilot to be.Review Date: 1998-08-23
This book covers all topics relevant to private pilot training without beating any subject to death. The excellent graphics and pictorial examples help to make semingly complex topics simple. I think this book is an indispensable resource for any student pilot. Particularly useful is the section on cross country flight planning which brings all of the stages of flight planning together in a good example of a cross country flight.
Very effective learning toolReview Date: 2000-04-08
This book may seem pricey to the uninitiated; don't let it throw you. The information provided under one cover is very concise and intuitive. It is not meant to be the end to all study and info gathering. Yet, it touches on most areas of flight knowledge. You'll learn how to use and interpret the E6-B flight computer, how a good flight plan is put together, FAR's, AIM...and just what are all those charts associated with navigation? Not meant to be the final word on knowledge, you'll also be provided with references to other publications and reading material.
I think you'll agree.

Great Way For Train Lovers To Learn Their ABC'sReview Date: 2005-04-21
For example:
A" is for all aboard. "All aboard!" calls Thomas the Tank Engine.
"Q" is for quick. James the Red Engine comes to a quick stop.
This is a delightful book that introduces the alphabet for small children, and is especially engaging because of the colorful pictures that are actually clear still from videos (at least, that's what they look like). Young train enthusiasts will especially love this book-as well as parents wanting a short (but educational) bed-time story to read to the kids.
Lovable Thomas and friends explore the alphabet.Review Date: 1998-11-07
less than perfect but still a must-have for Thomas fansReview Date: 2000-12-28
There is one page per letter with a photo from the televison show depicting the theme of that letter (not a hand drawn or computer generated illustration or cartoon). For example: A is for all aboard and the photo is of Thomas stopped at a station. The photos are great. Every page has one sentence at the bottom that uses the word in context. I do have a complaint that each letter is only shown in the upper case. Despite much room available on the page, when the word is spelled out the first letter is in tiny font just like the rest of the letters. I would prefer if the presenting letter were a larger font to highlight its' use in the word. I was hoping to use this book as a way to teach the letters to my son and this is why I am critical of these factors.
With that said, any little Thomas the Tank Engine lover will absolutely love this book.
Some of the words are a stretch or strange (T is for tracks but then the photo shows Terence the tractor and the sentence is "Terence tells Thomas about his tracks". Why not use T for Thomas (the one word the children are most familiar with), or else use Terence as he is pictured, or just say that T is for Thomas, AND Terence, AND Tracks?
This book has gotten us through some long car trips and air flights.
With all my little criticisms, I feel Iit's low cost justifies its purchase and replacement when it wears out.

Get off the road! Amelia Bedelia is DRIVING!Review Date: 2008-02-04
Good Drriving, Amelia Bedelia is filled with tons of "Amelia-isms," her constant misinterpretations of the most ordinary things -- most outstandingly "fork in the road!"
The wonderful illustrations bring the story to life. This is most certainly a book not to be missed! It's wonderful.

Good Driving, Amelia Bedilia ~ Herman ParishReview Date: 2003-03-05
I like this book because these are some things that people do tend to confuse in life. IF you do not know how to drive, you should learn before you go on the road. This is a good childrens book on teaching responsibility and learning. I think many young kids will enjoy this book, escpecially when they are just learning how to read.
Good Driving, Amelia BedeliaReview Date: 2003-03-13
I think that this is a pretty good book because it is fun to see how Amelia Bedelia can mix up just about anything Mr. Rogers says to her but I didn't find anything really special about it. The book is entirely for entertainment of how Amelia totally misinterprets everything around her.
Driving with Amelia Bedlia can be a punny thingReview Date: 2004-05-12
Actually, in this story, written by Peggy Parish's nephew Herman and illustrated by Lynn Sweat, there is more of a tendency to go with puns, especially once our heroine drives by a farm: "Herd of cows" says Mr. Rogers, and Amelia Bedelia says "Of course I have heard of cows." Once we get to cows we get around talking about a steer and horns, but then the pair are back on their way, looking for the fork in the road, trying to find a jack, and getting a toe.
So with all these puns this new adventure for Amelia Bedelia is really not in the true tradition of the series where the fun is always in how she takes comments literally, but it still has its moments and is charming in its own way. Sweat, of course, provided the illustrations for some of Peggy Parish's Amelia Bedelia books such as "Merry Christmas, Amelia Bedelia" and "Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping," so for many young readers these will be familiar pictures.

Haynes bicycle maintenance manualReview Date: 2008-05-27
The only repair guide you need.Review Date: 2008-02-10
A good place to startReview Date: 2007-01-10
Pretty good book overall on medium-level mechanicsReview Date: 2006-08-26
automobile mechanics on 100's of different model cars,
it was time for them to make some extra cash, and do a book
on bicycle repair, too! Having seen the automobile books, they
do come in handy for cars built back in the 80's and some in
the 90's, but increasingly, home repair has become next to
impossible as cars become electronic gadgets and computerized
in all aspects, and I'm not referring to remote car starters,
or even GPS systems or boomerang anti-theft tracking devices,
either.
Specifically, in regards to this book, it has a lot of glossy
color photos, but only average desktop publishing skills in
arranging text, and photos. It's practical, for sure, and is not
introductory, either.
Part of this book, reminds me of PARK TOOL's school manual they
give out after their quick weekend-course on bicycle
maintenance, in the sense that dozens of different specialized
tools are seen in the pictures, that the home mechanic will not
have, obviously, and considering they're specialized tools, with
low sales volume, are probably very costly to acquire from PARK
themselves, or through your LBS.
The final conclusion on this book, is that it's definitely worth
the price, if you're interested at all, in maintaining a bike,
doing work on it, and repairs. I'm not referring to high-end
bikes, MTB's or road costing $1000's of dollars, but your low-
end, mass-marketed and sold bikes costing $200, for example.
It has walk-thru's, color pictures, diagrams, explanations,
lists tools you need to do the work to repair so-and-so
situation, is sturdy, and almost 200 pages.

Come Fly With MeReview Date: 2006-11-06
He begins with his typically masterful blue tones, but adds orange and mauve and greens as the backdrop for a small airport (the pictures are done with gouache and airbrush). He uses single words and short phrases to describe the opening scenes: "Boarding." "Taxiing to the runway." "Ready." (The propellers start to spin.) "Take off." (The plane begins to fly, and we can see its shadow on the runway. As the plane climbs, Crews' text remains descriptive and simple, but the illustrations become more abstract. We see complex, patterned, overhead views of vehicles on criss-crossing highways, and the geometry of rooftops, domes, towers, and a ballpark. (The text reads, "Flying over cities") At "Flying across the country," we see the transition from the city to suburbs to a post-impressionist view of farmland dotted with foliage, with the squares and rectangles of farmhouses and barns. While the illustrations are sophisticated, they're totally comprehensible. Crews takes familiar scenes, and teaches kids and adults new ways of looking at them. The plane's flight continues, and it's comforting how the plane just goes on its way, unperturbed by the terrain. We see it "flying high over mountains," and then into the clouds (looking like waves of snowballs and whipped cream). There's perhaps a little anxiety as the clouds partially obscure the plane, but on the next page it emerges above them, without effort or strain, its shadow visible on the wavy clouds beneath it.
Crews also pays attention to time, especially evening and night, when journeys come to a close and safety is paramount. As the sky darkens, it's "time to head down," and there's a magnificent picture of the airplane flying across downtown buildings lit by hundreds of windows. We see the silhouetted plane descend into a safe landing, and the happy passengers disembark to greet their friends waiting on the ground. Another great work by Donald Crews, and if you like this, you're almost certain to love his other quietly exciting adventures. Highly recommended for toddlers and the beginning reader.
