Great book. No games. to the point and easy to follow. It also happens to be the only current book out there. Other than this I have had to look up old Husky manuals, Brad lackeys book, Ake jonsons the technique of motocross , among others that are 20-30yrs old. It is great that the only book out there is pretty good. Like all training books the real test is if you really do what is prescribed.

I too, was under the impression that I could build at least one boat from this book. I was surprised to find out that I would have to purchase "plans" in order to build any of the craft in the book. Had I been aware of that, I would not have wasted my money.
(I already know how to build this type of construction.)
HINT: Read the reviews completely before ordering any of these books.

I've owned this book for several years and find it to be a very usable guide to building light and durable boats fairly quickly. Having just spent six years of occasional weekend work building a larger plywood boat, I think that Hill's approach is one of the best. He tells you all you need to know about this construction method and you don't need special skills or tools to make one. It is not at all, as one reviewer said, just an ad for Hill's plans. He does offer some that you can purchase at the back, but the majority of the book is about how to build a boat in this method -- setting up the molds, cutting and attaching the planks, etc. Overall, a very good book.
not bad, but a bit closed minded

This was the first book I purchased on the topic of building clinker ply boats, and I wasn't terribly impressed. If I was building one of the two boats he describes, it would probably be more useful, but it doesn't cover anything about round bilged dinghies. It goes over a flat bottomed skiff and a round bilged but very lightly built canoe.
The author only covers one way of doing everything, and his methods usually struck me as tedious. For example, to spile a plank he clamps an entire 2'x16' sheet of plywood to his building jig and then the shape out from underneath.
I found John Brook's "Building Ellen" article in woodenboat magazine issues number #156, 157, 158 to be more helpful than this entire book. While I don't have John's book, if it's anything like the article it is probably much more useful.
I'd recommend buying Iain Oughtred's book "Clinker Plywood Boatbuilding Manual" instead. It covers a whole variety of techniques, including Tom Hill's, and also covers a much wider variety of hull types (prams, dories, round bilges, etc).

I am very happy with the books you have but one of the books on the order came from some one else, I waited 3 extra weeks although I got the confirmation a couple of days apart and then recieved the wrong book. Of course it was the book I wanted the most. I am in the process of returning it now and ordered it from wooden boat publications rather than trying you again. I had my confirmation in under 45 min. and the book will be sent within 24 hrs. That will be today so I will see how long it takes.

Essential reference for glued lapstrake boatbuilders

This is one of two books I recommend as essential reading for anyone attempting to bulid a glued plywood lapstrake boat for the first time. The other book is "The Plywood Clinker Boatbuilding Manual" by Iain Oughtred. There are several approaches to building a plywood glued lapstrake boat, and in my opinion the technique presented in this book gives the greatest chance of producing a high quality, fair hull. This book is not a set of instructions for building a particular boat design, but rather a set of procedures for building ANY lapstrake plywood hull. It is an easy read and has lots of detailed information on tasks that are not generally covered elsewhere, such as cutting a rolling bevel. The technique of using stringers on the mold makes getting the plank shapes right a snap. If you are thinking of building a lapstrake boat, read this book first. It gives a comprehensive overview of the process and may give you the confidence you need to go ahead with the project.

This book is insightful in detailing the relationship between land use and transit services -- and views the relationship from several perpectives. Case study examples clarify the "transit first" and the "land use first" approaches to urban growth. The writing style is engaging and clear, accurate and helpful to understanding of the many factors involved in the transit/land use dichotomy.

I've been very pleased with this book for its analysis of a variety of different city types and its recognition that different cities require different types of transit to really make public transit viable there. From Copenhagen's trains connecting downtown to densely populated "fingers" of growth to Ottawa's busways and Curitaba's extremely innovative and economic system, this book provides enough real life examples to see how transit can be tailored to fit any city, and vice versa.

I read this book a few years ago and it opened my eyes forever. Instead of moaning, "What will we do about all of these cars?" I have framed the question, "What the h. is wrong with the United States?" Prior to reading this book, I had only the faintest ideas about what democratic transit planning would look like on a large scale. The answer, Switzerland!
I was fascinated by the descriptions of actual, real life functioning public transportation in Singapore and Scandinavia. This Is REAL, People!
Unfortunately, after reading this book, I have developed the understanding that until we get things right with democracy, we will not get right with transit in the US. As long as our local governments are puppets of real estate developers, we will build our transportation infrastructure to suit their need to maximize profits, rather than the needs of the people who have to live in the cities for centuries to come.

Cervero does an excellent job presenting each case study and its lessons with regard to urban transportation. He studies cities from the United State, Europe, Asia, and Latin America which makes the book especially valuable. He introduces and explains different types and categories of urban transportation alternatives and their respective benefits and drawbacks. Excellent book, worth reading.

This is an interesting book.It shows a wide variety of vehicles being chopped. Its a good guide on how to perform this body modification. The book also guides you in not going overboard on a top chop. One interesting point I like is it shows you how to put a later 1960's roof onto a 1950's car,and it looks superb.Havent seen that idea before. There's enough information on how to in this book but not a complete step by step guide.
It will help though.Worth considering and good value for the price.

This isn't a book you sit down and read, take some notes on, or highlight. I found myself reading it lightly to familiarize myself with what info was where, then going back (many times) and studying short sections when I was thinking through some scenario, critiquing an earlier flight, or getting ready for a flight.
For students, this takes off-airport operations far beyond what you'll get from reading any required material. And probably tells you things you'll otherwise have to figure out on your own or from chance opportunities from flying with a high-timer. If I'd had it for my private, I'd have skimmed it right before starting confined space and pinnacle operations--this goes into way more detail than the RFM does. I can't imagine that this wouldn't also greatly benefit the commercial pilot or those moving from air taxi and tour operations to external loads and other cool skills (there are chapters on external load operations, night flying, and things I won't get to do for years).
On the downside, sometimes the writing is a little awkward and confusing. The perspective offered by this manual overrides any negative tho.

Frankly speaking, after having received "Helicopter Pilot's Handbook Of Mountain Flying & Advanced Techniques",I underestimated the value of the book, due to size,i.e. 96 pages. But the book prooved its value by reminding me its content. There are many advices for pilots who are earning their lives over mountainous terrain.
At the beginnig,i decided to highlight important lines, but I decided not to do so,because every line is essential to remember.

This is a "nuts and bolts" manual designed for "hands-on" restorers...romance novel, comic book and bathroom coffee table book readers need not apply. I personally restored and assembled an early 1928 Model A Phaeton using this book as my primary reference source combined with the Model A Judging Standards and Ford Service Bulletins. My car wouldn't be together without the extremely accurate instructions, plentiful illustrations and references. This is, by far, the best reference manual available on the Ford Model A, hands down!!! This book is from a fellow who has obviously restored quite a few cars and knows what he's talking about. One strives for accuracy but as time elapses, more is forgotten so you use multiple sources and cross reference. This book, however, is the definitive basis for all others...start here, you won't be disappointed with this essential "tool" for restoring your Model A. Torque specs, tool info., lubrication information, helpful hints abound in this step-by-step book. A must buy for the restorer!!! Truly magnificent!

This book was purchased a couple of years ago in the hope it would give me some help and insight into the world of the Ford Model A and how to "bring it back". I thought it was poorly and amateurishly written then and after looking at it again last night, think it is even worse than that!! If you are working on an early 1928 car it may have some use. The engine info is generalized and body information is worse - much is absolutely incorrect. In summation, THERE ARE A LOT BETTER SOURCES OF INFORMATION ON THIS VERY POPULAR AUTOMOBILE

As a concerned father, I bought this book with the idea that it might be something my daughter could benefit from. Well, after reading it and discovering that, even after twenty plus years behind the wheel I still have a lot learn I've got to say that this is a must read for anyone who gets behind the wheel. It is well written and easy to read and got my daughter to finally start asking some great questions about driving.
I took the liberty of "googling" Tony Scotti's name and was impressed with how much was out there. Even has his own websites (www.securitydriver.com and www. vehicledynamics.net). Though most of the content may not be suitable for the young driver, it certainly puts safe driving in a new light.

I have actually started driving since a a bit more than a year ago. I was taught the basics by my friends, but I knew i had to learn more than those "basics", so I bought a lot of books and read them on my spare time. This book written by Scotti is something that really helped me a lot because it has a lot of information and detailed explanations, including the physics involved in driving. Somehow, the knowledge I gained here helped me become a more confident and a reliable driver. I would recommend this book for all who really need to become good drivers. Don't just drive, drive safely, well and correctly! This is the essence of the book. And how to do that? It's in this book.

We thought our 4 yr old train fanatic had taught us everything we needed to know about all the different train cars, but this book had a lot more knowledge for us. It's one of his favorite books, and has large photographs of trains and train cars. I think this is a must-have for any train loving kid!
