Less Whiny Lizzie!

I have enjoyed most of Meg Cabot's adult books. I have even enjoyed some of her young adult, as well. However, I have always thought that Lizzie Nichols was too whiny. I read Queen of Babble very quickly and enjoyed it for the most part. The whole time though I kept thinking who would want to be with this whiny woman. In Queen of Babble Gets Hitched, I think that Lizzie seems to be finally growing up. She has realized that maybe those things that she wanted in the past are not all their cracked up to be. She still whines a bit about the whole Chaz/Luke triangle, but it's not as whiny as the comments on the train with Luke in the first book. I agree with other reviewers that Luke pretty much got skewered in this book, but we never really have known much about him, other than he "wants to save the children" and he's an alleged "prince." Overall, I enjoyed this book much more than the previous two, especially Queen of Babble in the Big City (which I had to force myself to read.)

I really enjoyed this trilogy. The characters were fun to get to know and I really like how everything ended. I was a little nervous for our scatter-brained heroine, but luckily she gets her priorities in order. I would love to read about how the happy couple deals with children in the future.

Of the three Queen of Babble books, I liked this one the best. The author provided good closure, while also allowing room for a fourth if that is the direction she chooses to take. Of the three in the series, this one really focuses on Lizzie and her emotions vs. just her actions. It is about her relationships with those who are most important to her and at the same time, about her opinions of herself. It was hard to put the book down, as I couldn't wait to see what Lizzie would do next. There were a few unexpected moments in the story, which gave it more depth than a typical chick-lit book. The story also picked up right where number 2 left off, and even though I read number 2 a while ago, the characters and the story easily came back to me. This is a good, fun read, as the Publisher's Weekly is quoted on the front cover. It is best read as the third in the series too; I don't see it as a stand alone.

Queen of Babble Gets Hitched - By Meg Cabot

In "Queen of Babble Gets Hitched" Lizzie Nichols, budding wedding dress designer and restorer, ("Queen of Babble" and "Queen of Babble in the Big City") finally gets her wish. Luke, her ex returns to New York with a killer rock and a proposal. Of course this comes after she spent the night (semi - platonicaly) with Luke's best friend Chaz. It quickly becomes obvious that although she accepts Luke's ring and proposal, things are not all wedding dresses, white doves and roses. Everyone can see that Luke isn't right for her...everyone except Lizzie herself. Until she starts breaking out in hives at the thought of planning her own wedding, and being very thankful that Luke will be spending the summer in France.

A light hearted, quickly read book with some really great secondary characters Ava Geck ( a Paris Hilton-like celebrity) Mr and Mrs Henri, owners of the shop where she creates and restores, and of course her best friend and Chaz's ex-love, Shari.

Meg Cabot finishes this trilogy with all the humor that the first two books introduces and gives us a happy ending too!
An excellent beach read, and I would recommend that if you would like to read this, while you can read "Queen of Babble Gets Hitched" as a stand alone, it really has a better impact if you read the first 2 books first.

I found this book to be extremely helpful in terms of scams to watch out for, unexpected places to look for bargains, etc. I also found it helped get me thinking outside the box in terms of decorations, music, etc - not only to save money, but also to make my wedding fun and unique. I would recommend complementing it with at least 1-2 other books, though. Personally, I am using one etiquette book and one detail-oriented planning book to keep everything running smoothly.

My fiance and I received this book as a gift from family among a number of other wedding planning publications. This book was by far the most helpful providing honest, straightforward tips for planning a great wedding and saving a lot of money while doing it. We still have about 8 months until we get married, but we estimate that we've already saved hundreds of dollars by following the tips in this book!

This is a wonderful book for photographers who are just starting out in the wedding business, and there's a reason this book is rated so highly. The book goes through the entire process a wedding photographer should be thinking through, from planning the shoot, capturing the moment and to the final product. It has great photos and lots of advice on technique and the thought process behind photographing a wedding. I personally read it about 18 months ago and I still refer to it from time to time. Nothing profound here, just good substantive photography and good technique. Its a "must have" for the beginner!

I can't be more pleased with the baby journal. It has a good binding, fun stuffs, beautiful graphics, and my most favorite part is that is has wonderful quotation, both from famous people and from the bible! I love it! I love it! It's good to get it while you're still pregnant (I'm 8 months pregnant now) as the journal has stuffs to fill out before the birth of the baby.

I was looking for something that would record a lot of the baby's and toddler's "firsts." I highly recommend the Humble Bumbles Baby Journal: it covers all the high points and baby firsts, has ample room for a variety of pictures, and every page is unique and cheerfully illustrated. It has enough room to write down what you would like to record, but not so much that you feel compelled to compose a novel for each entry (something many new parents do not have time for)! This book is not gender specific, so it would make a perfect gift for even the parent who does not know the sex of their baby. Many posts have complained about the scripture verses, however that is something I prefer and appreciate in this book. Evenso, not every page has a Bible verse; some have really sweet quotations regarding childhood and parenting. This book is extremely well-done with much thought on the part of the author. I have been able to record in this book since the day my daughter was born...this is something I will be able to treasure even when she is grown!

Ok, I will tell you the very best story was written by Charlaine Harris "Tacky", this was a great story (fun too). Then, second place is take by two, "Charmed by the Moon", Lori Handeland and "Something Borrowed" by Jim Butcher. Third place, Sherrilyn Kenyon and Susan Krinard. All were very good stories and all these authors I read alot. The rest, sad to say, not so good, at all. But, I would buy the book just for the above mentioned. I think everyone would agree when buying a "collection" of short stories this is always the case, some good and some not so good. No need to be disappointed, unless they all stink. So, buy it and enjoy the ones you will like best, which may not be the ones I liked the best.

Out of all the short novellas in this book, I liked may be 2-3 only. Some of the stories are too short to get into the author's world, and too brief to leave any lasting impressions. It's a good idea to read this anthology as an introduction to work of many talented authors presented in this book.

A bit uneven but fun.

My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding is a fun concept, with contributions by some wonderful writers.

It's the perfect book to toss into your bag when your reading time is restricted to waiting on line at the bank, the dentist's office, etc.

Nothing heavy here, but some good supernatural laughs.

An anthology of stories that are most paranormal romance it would seem, which is no big surprise given the title or the popularity of such. Hardcore fans of that subgenre will like this more than people just looking for some fantasy stories, undoubtedly.

The main exception, and the best story here is Jim Butcher's entry, and that is also a Harry Dresden story, for the completists of that character. Mostly why I decided to give it a go, too.

So, a lot of light-hearted silliness, even a Pirates of the Carribean lite style story by Rachel Caine. As such, the story average is only a touch over the mediocre 3.00. I really wouldn't expect too much more from a book like this though of course, that is not particularly the point.

Supernatural Wedding : Something Borrowed - Jim Butcher

I enjoyed Sunrise immensely, probably because I became familiar with Dayne and Katy in Kingsbury's book Fame. While Kingsbury does a great job slipping in the back story a little bit at a time, sometimes it's just not as good as reading it for yourself. I loved Fame and I loved Sunrise. (Nothing like going straight to the wedding.) Actually, there were four books after Fame that led up to this point, so if you like soap opera drama in the sense that every book makes you crave the next "episode" then you'll love Sunrise as a prelude to the exciting things yet to come.

The wedding scene was also the most beautiful and romantic that I've ever read. You can't help but love Dayne and Katy and want great things to happen in their lives. Especially after getting a feel for all that they went through even without reading the previous books. Their love is rich and deep and based on the foundation of Jesus Christ. Kingsbury is unabashedly Christian in that respect. She always emphasizes the importance of salvation in the lives of her characters. I love that. The subplot regarding the perils of drinking and driving was well done as was the budding romance between the senior Baxter, John, and his long-time friend, Elaine.

Kingsbury is also the queen of secondary characters and subplots. Just like in the soaps, there are always several stories going at once. Of course that makes me crave the next book in the series--which I thankfully have--so I can immediately continue on. Kingsbury writes fast enough to make it possible to go from one story to the next. I've probably done myself a disservice by not reading everything in order (I plan to jump back to read Forgiven (which comes after Fame) and I still need to read Redemption, which was the book that started the last two series. But no matter which way you slice it, each series containing the Baxter family is addicting. I'm glad to be getting my next fix.

The Wedding is a charming story of marriage, love and starting all over again. I found that as a married man with demands on my time and energy because of my career, I could relate all too well with the main character and could draw parallels with my own life, for better or worse. The final chapter provides readers with a twist that makes the story even better in the end. All told, this is a quick and warm story about love recounted by one of the genre's best story tellers.

Review Date: 2008-06-28
Hindsight isn't always 20/20, especially when you don't have all the facts. That's Haven's problem in That Summer. Life for Haven isn't exactly easy, but more to the point she's going through more than enough changes. She keeps growing, her sister is getting married, her father is remarrying, leaving her confused in a turbulent summer nothing like the ones before.

Then enters Sumner, the guy that made life so great. Sumner and her sister seemed to have it all, and all seemed brighter with Sumner in their lives. Ashley and Haven got along great, her parents were still together...everything was perfect. So unlike what she's having to put up with now.

The thing about this story is the way everything can seem so black and white sometimes, even when it's always a varying shade of gray. I understand how upset Haven is, as I couldn't begin to understand that sort of stress, but her expectations she places on Sumner -- Ashley's old boyfriend -- are unrealistic. What does she want him to do, exactly? I have a feeling Haven wouldn't know the answer to that question, which is probably the point.

The end of this story speeds up unexpectedly, slamming the door shut on a relatively quiet book. It's definitely a first novel, with weaknesses abound, but there are significant points in the narrative, mostly between Haven and her family, that tell of future strengths. Sarah Dessen only gets better from here.

This book is really great. It asks questions that we wouldn't normally think of and gave us alot of insight to one another and they are serious questions that every couple should ask one another. It has really helped us communicate about some serious subjects. Thanks!

helpful only if you don't know the person you are marrying

I really hope that if you are getting married, you have discussed most of the topics in this book before. If not, then the book should be helpful...but you might also reconsider getting married if these things haven't been discussed. There are a few topics that aren't obvious to discuss and if the book prompts that discussion, then it has done its job.

A must if your thinking about getting maried

If I'd read this book before my first marriage I wouldn't have said "I do"! It covers everything that can come up at some point in a relationship. It is very time consuming. But be patient it is worth the time. I am also happy to report that the love of my life has been so great at working thru this book. And it has really confirmed for us that we are truly meant for each other!

It's bit overwhelming. It is going to take me a long time to go through it, even though it is a thiny book. I would say that whole chapters are basically one question posed in many ways. I can totally see my boyfriend running away from me if I ask him all 1001 questions ;) I guess next time I should go for 10 questions that you have to ask before committing.

Excellent "Make-You-Think" Resource!

I was more determined to pick up a book before the wedding than my husband was, but we were both insanely glad we got this. It really makes you face situations that would take YEARS to come up, and it was really the best tool we could have had before we made the big leap.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anyone looking at marriage.
