Another Terrific Book From Karen KingsburyReview Date: 2008-10-04
This novel reads okay as a standalone, but is so much better if you are already invested in the characters from previous stories in this series. There are some wonderful discussion questions in the back of the book for the reader to ponder or share with a reading group.
Emotionally grippingReview Date: 2008-10-02
She writes with so much emotion, with so many emotionally vibrant pictures, with such exquisite word choices! I was crying left and right--and I enjoyed it!
Very uplifting, hopeful book. It shows God's grace and love practiced by fallen Christians during trying periods of life, through hard choices.
There are a LOT of characters in this book, and since I haven't followed the Baxter series, I was a bit confused at times and couldn't always remember who was who. But she does a good job giving subtle hints so I could figure it out within a few paragraphs.
People who have followed the Baxters will find it a very satisfying ending, pulling lots of story threads full circle. I thought she did a good job, considering how many characters and stories were involved in the series.
Overall, a very entertaining book, hard to put down. Kingsbury fans will love it, and it made a new Kingsbury fan out of me!
engaging character driven taleReview Date: 2008-09-30
The family patriarch widower John Baxter and Elaine Denning are getting married. He knows he must sell the family home that ahs meant so much to everyone. However as endings occur with new beginnings, faith, love and friendship guide everyone through the dramatic upheavals of radical change.
As with the previous books in the Baxter family saga (see SOMEDAY, SUMMER and SUNRISE), redemption and faith are recurring themes inside an engaging character driven tale. The Baxters are moving on but it is not easy to leave behind the evidence of their memories though they each know the time is right to do so. Sub-genre fans will want to read Karen Kingsbury's Baxter family tales as love and faith are powerful twin engines in the hands of this superb author.

Additionally, if you want to purchase a wedding organizer (really, all you need is an expansion file folder or a 3-ring binder & folders): DO NOT BUY THIS ONE! You really are going to need: one that lays flat (read: sprial bound or 3-ring bidner style), and one that has pockets for reciepts, swatches, contracts, etc. I found that since this had none of these--I used it once, and refused to lug it around with me.

Fun read for romanceaholics!Review Date: 2008-10-12
The thing I liked best about this book is that it showed the feelings growing and deepening between Rachael and Brody and it wasn't just about the romatic zing! of infatuation or physical attraction. Both those elements were present in the story but because both characters had been hurt and rejected in the past they fought against those feelings. Because their romance developed slowly over the course of the book, it felt more real when it finally happened.
The book is media contemporary: I think it is the first romance I've read where a character puts a video on YouTube or has a blog.
I also thought the parallel plot involving Rachael's parents added to the book. My one complaint, and the reason I gave the book 4 stars rather than 5, was that there were too many happy endings in the book. Romanceaholic that I am, I can't believe those words came off my keyboard, but it is true. A couple of the couples that had happy endings were handled so quickly that they felt more like distractions from the main part of the book rather than enhancing the book. But that's a very minor criticism and overall I enjoyed the book very much.
The wedding veil referred to in the series name didn't get much attention in this book but I suspect when I go back and read the first two books in the series I'll find out more about it.

You don't have to read the whole series to enjoy this book but why not get them all; There Goes the Bride, Once Smitten, Twice Shy and looking forward to Jillian's Story the final book in the series.
lighthearted fun aReview Date: 2008-10-12
The court gives Rachel community service; while she sentences herself to find a way to no longer be a losing inane romantic. Thus she sets up an Internet site for Romanceaholics Anonymous so they can save each other from the addicted destruction of romanticism. The townsfolk are irate; at least the Austen crowd and those who sell the concept of romance in Valentine; although some cynics toast their new heroine. Bobby, who lost a leg in Iraq, thinks the woman he is falling in love with is overreacting to the rejections; as he believes she has not found the right groom until now. The problem is her web help network makes romance seem negative.
The latest charming "Wedding Veil Wishes" is an amusing tale focusing on recognizing what love is and with whom. The story line is lighthearted fun as Rachel receives an education of the heart. Recipients from the previous "Wedding Veil Wishes" romances return and the Wilde trademark of strong secondary romances enhance an engaging Valentine tale.

You know the saying "Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me." Well Rachael Henderson is really familiar with it. She had been left at the altar twice now! Watch out as Rachael is out for revenge and what better place to get your revenge then Rachael's hometown... Valentine, Texas. A town full of romantics and believers of true love. The last person Rachael expected to see what Sheriff Brody Carlton. Rachael's first crush.
Sheriff Brody Carlton gets called out because someone is defacing Valentine's famous red lipped billboard. When Brody arrives at the scene, he can't believe his eyes. He finds a woman wearing a wedding dress painting the lips black. Rachael wants to help the people of Valentine, so she creates Romanceaholics Anonymous. So people don't like Rachael coming in and stirring up things. Before you know it the residents of Valentine are divided.
The witty banter that transpired amongst Rachael and Brody had me smiling the whole way through the book. I liked reading Lori Wilde's latest release Addicted to Love. It was an upbeat, sweet romantic book. Addicted to Love is part of the Wedding Veil Wishes series. Addicted to Love is the first book I have read in this series by Lori Wilde but it sure won't be the last one I read. I hope to eventually see Rachael, Brody and the rest of the townsfolk's of Valentine, Texas again.

Another Excellent book from Candace CampReview Date: 2008-10-11
Ms. Camp has a talent for writing beautiful historical romances, and this book was a delight. It deals with the Duke of Rochford sister and the earl of Bromwell who hates the Duke, after all its rumored that the Earl's sister was the Duke's mistress at one point. But things are not always as they seem.
A highly enjoyable read, but even more important is that the next book is FINALLY about Lady Francesca and the Duke of Rochford!
Gullible heroine and skim-able love scenesReview Date: 2008-10-10
My favorite of the Matchmaker series thus farReview Date: 2008-09-27
Lady Calandra, the much younger sister of the tall, dark and handsome Duke of Rochford, has decided to approach Lady Francesca, matchmaker to the rich and desperate, about finding herself a husband. At twenty-three and having enjoyed five years out in society, Calandra (called Callie by friends and family) is tired of hearing her continued single status harped upon by her grandmother and the other older ladies of the ton. However, Callie is determined to choose her own husband rather than pick from the boring, but upstanding, men who are being pushed upon her by the older set.
In approaching Lady Francesca, Callie has a secret motive, however. She has met someone who makes her heart go pitty-pat, a new face on the social scene -- Richard, Earl of Bromwell. But for some reason her formidable brother has forbidden her to see the dashing Lord Bromwell. So Callie figures that she will be freer to explore romantic possibilities with sexy Brom if she is being chaperoned by Francesca, and is far away from her brooding brother's influence.
What follows is a scintillating mixture of romance and revenge, as the character of Brom's sister, Lady Daphne, enters the picture and we find out that both Daphne and Brom have reason to despise the Duke of Rochford. They despise him enough to entertain thoughts about exacting retribution on him and on his unsuspecting sister. The question is: Just how far are they willing to go?
The story unfolds just fast enough to keep the reader glued to the page. The sexual tensions grow, not only between Brom and Callie, but between Francesca and the enigmatic Duke. Readers of the first two books in the series will be interested to discover some fascinating history about Francesca and the Duke. But though this book sets the reader up perfectly for the final book in this wonderful series, it never strays from the central romantic story being told and does stand on its own.
I love this series and recommend it highly to romance fans who love tightly-written prose and a strong story line which leads to a satisfying conclusion.
A good book by a great author!Review Date: 2008-09-25
Just okay leads but good secondary charachtersReview Date: 2008-09-08
Callie and Brom meet at a masquerade ball and are instantly attracted to each other. They share a kiss and just a few words but neither knows who the other is until Callie's brother, Sinclair, the Duke of Rochford spies them together and warns Brom away from his sister. (btw Callie's brother can be insufferably arrogant where Callie is concerned treating her like a child)
Brom's sister had accused Sinclair of seducing and abandoning her years ago and leaving her with his baby. Brom sees an opportunity to get under the Duke's skin by courting his sister. He is encouraged to do so by his sister too.
Callie is unaware of past troubles between Brom and her brother, all she knows is that she desires to be with him, so she manages to get her friend Francesca to act as her chaperone while her brother is out of London. Francesca is glad to do so, seems there is a history with the Duke and Francesca too.
Callie and Brom continue a rather proper courtship with Brom hoping that the Duke will take note and confront him. He has no desire to ruin Callie nor does he wish her harm. His sister does have some evil intentions and through her machinations puts Callie in harm's way.
The characters here had good chemistry but were not vivacious like the secondary characters of Francesca and even Brom's wicked sister. Also a more vengeance minded hero would have put a little more spice in the action. Brom was almost tame. Callie was proper and did try to stand up to her brother but she was no dynamic heroine. However, the sexual tension was good. I had not read the prior books in the series so had no knowledge of some of the characters. This book can stand on its own.

Queen of Babble Gets Hitched is the third and final book in Meg Cabot's hit "Queen of Babble" series. Though it doesn't quite hit the level of the previous two books, it provides a satisfying resolution to the trilogy. The reader leaves confident that Lizzie's story has been told, though a peek into her life after marriage would be more than welcome!
One element that has always been enjoyable about the Queen of Babble series is the quality of secondary characters. From Lizzie's Grandma, forever obsessed with Sully from Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, to Ava Geck, a Paris Hilton-type character whose father owns a major department store, the characters in this book are just as humorous as they have ever been. Cabot's ability to write unique and funny characters who are still relatable is exemplary - most likely, one of the main reasons she is such a phenomenally successful author.
Also, the Lizzie/Chaz relationship seems to come out of left field. Upon consideration, they work well together, but until the suggestions of the previous book and seeing them fleshed out in this one, it really didn't seem viable. Of course, once it was demonstrated how well they work together, this reader was completely on board. One thing that missing from this book is Shari, Lizzie's best friend and Chaz's ex-girlfriend. The absence of her perspective is noticeable, especially since she was such a major player in the first two books.
As always, Lizzie is a wonderful character. Though not always relatable, she is a strong, independent woman who is a great role model. (And let's face it - she's also loads of fun to read about, especially when she talks about her Spanx!) Her indecisiveness is sometimes difficult, but at the same time, it is part of the character's internal debate of what she wants out of her life. In the end, it is a bittersweet finale to the series; the book provides a satisfying conclusion, but readers will be sad to say goodbye to such an appealing character.
It does what it's supposed to doReview Date: 2008-08-19
My one problem with this book was how Luke suddenly became such a terrible boyfriend (or should I say fiance?); because of this sudden change in character, it was pretty clear who she belonged with and we all knew how the story would end. Still, overall I liked the book. It's good for when you just want to relax and get away from a stressful day.
Book Review: Queen of Babble Gets HitchedReview Date: 2008-08-17
The Queen of Babble is Lizzie Nicholls, a 23-year-old with a passion for wedding gowns and vintage clothes (her dream job is wedding gown restorer) who can't seem to keep her mouth shut. In the first book of the series, Lizzie meets and falls in love with Luke de Villiers, a French prince (nonetheless) with a lot of money but not a lot of heart. In the second book of the series, Quen of Babble in New York, Lizzie moves in with Luke in his New York apartment in order to pursue her dreams of becoming a certified wedding gown specialist. She finds a job a Chez Henri, a wedding gown shop, but things with Luke get worse. As a matter of fact, they break up, because he "can't see her in his future", while Lizzie wants to get married.
At the beginning of Queen of Babble Gets Hitched, Lizzie wakes up next to her ex-boyfriend's best friend (not to mention best friend's ex boyfriend) Chaz, while Luke comes back to her with a marriage proposal. Lizzie's dream has become true. Why, then, the idea of getting married makes her break out in hives? And why does she feel all flustered when she sees Chaz, who is totally against her marrying Luke?
Of course, all will turn out right in the end, and our Lizzie will have her happy ending, together with a much-deserved success in her career. Queen of Babble Gets Hitched is pure chick-lit at its best. With Meg Cabot's irony and gift in telling Lizzie's story, you are guaranteed for a light, fun reading.
I loved this book. I'd recommend to all Cabot fans, and to all the lovers of the chick-lit genre.

I was bittersweet about Sunset. Devastated to have the series end, but also happy at the way things turned out for all the characters. This book ties up all the loose hands in a great way. I was happy at how the ending turned out for each and every one of the characters I've come to know and love. They all got an ending they deserved.
This books takes a close look at marriage as well in many aspects. I enjoyed the focus on Luke and Regean's relationship and deteriorating marriage because it's so true of what happens today in society. When we do handle things right away and let things build up and grow inside of us...it's bound to catch up. For Luke and Reagan it does, but thankfully everything works out for them. As a college student who reads I felt I could relate to them.
Anyway, Sunset is a great ending to the series. I finished it in a day. I only hope that Kingsbury will further explore Cody and Bailey's possible relationship.
- also, what happened with Ashley was predictable. But i was still happy.
