I think this book is extremely helpful to those who want to mark the occasion of their wedding with love and celebration, but don't want to be one of those chicks that obsesses over nit-picky matchy details. It was very reassuring to me, and made me feel like it was okay to not want to wear a white dress and buck tradition in other ways. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves their fiance, but starts to panic at the enormity of the task ahead of them.

The idea of this book is great, the execution is not. This book is a pretty typical wedding planning book, with a few nontraditional ideas here and there. What I wanted from this book are real tips for people who have not been obsessed with their wedding since elementary school, but it did not deliver. In my opinion, anti-brides do not register at Tiffany's and do not wear couture bridal gowns. I'll stick with Bridal Bargains which is a great book for those who are not obsessed.

I was hoping for suggestions and ideas about how to have an anti-wedding, but this book only has ideas for traditional weddings, complete with the big white poofy dress. I read it all the way through, hoping for it to eventually reveal the "anti" part of it, but it never did. Furthermore, it had several typos and most of the resources in the appendix were outdated and useless.

This book would be cool if you had to plan different types of parties. There were only about 2 ideas we picked for our wedding. A lot of the ideas are kind of cheesey. They look very homemade. But there are good ideas in this for kids parties. Just my opinion! Good luck to everyone getting married!!

This book is helpful for the couple that is creating many of the elements associated with their wedding -- favors, centerpieces, items for the reception (chair covers, seating cards, etc.)
Each 2-page spread features a photo of the item and a list of supplies and instructions to create it.
I'd suggest checking it out in the library or bookstore before buying...

This was an ok book. The story was really good but the way the author kept writing about God was annoying and very immature. If you just ignore all the Christianity in this book, then it's a good story. The story did portray what planning a wedding is really like but the authors overuse of Christianity in this book made it hard to read.

I do, is the fifth and last book in the Caitlin series. It is mainly about Caitlin getting ready for her wedding. Josh proposed to her at the beginning of the book. He proposed to her in a very special way. All through the book she is fighting her wedding battles. She has to try to go through with her mom and Josh's mom telling her different things she needs to do. Josh's mom likes to spend lots of money and Caitlin's mom is the complete opposite. Caitlin just wants to have a simple wedding. Jenny was a very big help since she has transferred to Caitlin's school. They are now rooming together. Beanie got accepted to a design school in New York City and is helping Caitlin out with the designs for the bride's dress and the bridesmaid dresses. Caitlin is also trying to figure out where they should go on their honeymoon. Caitlin and Josh are having their wedding at a big church and the reception at a place they went together in high school. Is Caitlin going to get everything worked out or get completely stressed?
I would recommend this book to any girl that can read the reading level. I would also recommend this book to people that like the books, P.S Longer Letter Later and Snail Mail No More because they are very similar.
This book was a very good book. I like everything about it and I don't think that I disliked any part of it.

I do! Is a story about a girl named Caitlin O'Conner. It is the fifth book in the series of Diary of A Teenaged Girl. Caitlin is a senior in college and was at a wedding for two of her good friend. After a while at the reception, Caitlin and her best friend Beanie were leaving when Josh Miller stopped them. Josh and Caitlin have a history together, and Caitlin has always liked him since high school. Josh asked Caitlin if she was busy that night, and she said no. Josh was driving somewhere that he told Caitlin was special, but Caitlin didn't know about it. He drove to the park and hopped out to open Caitlin's door. They walked through the park until they came to a clearing by the lake. There, Caitlin saw a table lit with candles. They sat down and were served by some high school-aged guys from their church. Then josh went down on one knee, and popped a question.
I really liked this book because it explains what is happening really well, and makes it so you understand what is going on. I also like this book because every time you start the next book in the series, it explains like some of the things that happened in the book before that so you know what is going on at the beginning. I don't really have any dislikes about the book because I thought it was pretty exciting and interesting throughout the whole thing.
I don't think people who like adventure books would like this. I also don't think guys would want to read this book because it is more of a girl book.

I was so excited to have Caitlin and Josh get together! I loved hearing "from" Caitlin again. I'll admit, Caitlin's life is a little dull in comparison to Chloe's life (don't kill me, everyone!!), but it was a good book. I wished that we had had more about Zach, I really miss that guy! Anyhow, Caitlin had wonderful wedding, wonderful flowers, whole deal! Yay for her! Other then that (and everything already said in the other post) it was just a good book. I'm sad to leave Caitlin... But we'll still hear from her... hopefully!

I think this book has great ideas and styles for everyone. Some of the ideas are very simple that anyone could do (I am not an artsy/creative person at all), while other ideas are for the more crafty person.
This book was so helpful to me, I saved a lot of money and my invitations are much more personable and more my style than anything I could have bought at a store.

I have found that I am obviously not very crafty. The book tries to lay out the details on how to make the invitations for those of us that are crafty challenged. I decided that there was to much work involved with making your own invitations. There are very nice designs in the book for those people that are willing to put the time and effort into making the invitations.

I loved this book as much as the other two Lake and March mysteries. They're just a great team! I would gladly read many more of their stories. They're clever and funny and very romantic. I never get tired of them or the currant tarts. I think any of their stories (or any of Amanda Quick's books for that matter) should be a movie. I'd love to see this on the big screen; would be absolutely wonderful for true romantics.

Tobias March and Lavinia Lake are spending the weekend at a country house party when Lavinia see a have been the last person to see an Lord alive before he is pushed off roof. So starts their looking in the murder. Was it a ramdom event or could it been for a more evil purpose?
"Late to the Wedding" is the lastest book that I have read by Amanda Quick and I have to say that I am happy that I only paid a quarter for it. With each book I read Ms. Quick seems to get worse. These Characters lack the charm of earlier books and the only reason that I even read it was it happen to be in my bag and there was nothing else to do.

I happened across this author and loved the first book I read. It was so great that I went to the library and checked out six of her other books. Big mistake! Let me give anyone who cares a tip- if you have read one of her books, you've pretty much read them all. With each new book I read, I just knew there would be a new story at some point. Never happened! This particular book had me wicked mad by page 25. "Nah honey, that hot chick wasn't coming onto me. She was just in my room at night and hugged me. And oh yeah...she's rich too. Sorry hun." Tobias made me want to throw up! BIG no-no for the leading man (who is basically a private detective by the way) not to notice when a woman is manipulating him and hurting the people he loves. This behavior is expected from guys that are looking to get some on the side, not a guy that is crazy about one girl. My suggestion for improving the book is having Tobias be the one that flies off the roof! If you paid actually money for this book, you got hosed!

I have read several of Amanda Quick's previous books in this series and I thought they were easy reads. I was hoping this book would be a super mystery but it really didn't unfold to rate a super read. I'd say it was a entertaining story, but weak in the plot and the characters were one dimensional. The dialog between the characters was pretty close to being boring. So, all in all this is not a terrible book, just a nice, easy story to read in bed before the lights go out. I'm still a fan of Amanda and I'll probably check out her latest books

First things first -- the photography in this book is HEINOUS! The wardrobe, the poses, the lighting, the overall quality of the images led me to believe that this was published in the early 90's, when in fact it was published very recently. I even saw the classic "Napoleon Dynamite" pose amongst its pages.
So I figured this photographer would have nothing to teach me, given I (and every other photographer I know) was producing photographs of far greater quality the first day we picked up a camera Freshman year of college. But the text is actually quite enlightening, giving you some handy advice for flattering your clients' figures that is really indispensable. Since I currently am doing production photography (5 minutes per set to do creative shots for an entire family), I need a lot of fast, easy poses to place people in, or at least basic rules to avoid costly mistakes, and this delivered.
You won't find a book of poses, or a book of good photography, but you will find an education in how to come up with your own poses.

Sample pictures do not have a clear description of which poses are good or bad. You have to read text which is usually in different pages to determine the expalantion of the poses.
Writer is not clear in his explanations and is hard to follow.
I will not buy any other books by this author.

I've bought this book to plan my wedding in 09, and I'm so excited to use it. The checklists are very helpful, the budget section is great, the folders are good for smaller peices of paper and a three hole punch is included for the bigger peices. The calculator doesn't work, but that's not a big deal when everything else is so helpful!
The only thing I don't like is that it's not a etiqute book as well... so I'll have to buy a separate book for help with all that.

This book was a great purchase...a necessary purchase. The timelines to get things completed are detailed (what to do at 9+ months, 6 months, 4 months, etc) and the section on budgeting your wedding will definitly open your eyes to things you might otherwise have never thought of. There's lots of pockets for business cards, receipts, and paperwork from vendors. I read in other reviews that the calculator didn't work, but it's solar powered so it has to be in direct light for it to function properly. The hole punch comes in handy too. I will agree that it's pretty bulky.

My Daughter had received one of these for planning her wedding, she called it "The Wedding Bible" it enabled her to plan and coordinate the perfect wedding! She was so organized. I purchased this one as a Christmas gift for one of the girls at work, who had recently become engaged...she was thrilled!

Our second grade son couldn't wait to read this book, as he loves anything about spies, detectives, etc., and he really enjoyed it! It was a pretty quick read, maybe 10 minutes at a time for 3-4 evenings, and the language and plot line were easy to follow. He's read 4 books from this series so far, and this was probably his favorite!
Another great book in the series

My son loves these books. He read the A to Z mysteries also by Ron Roy and when he saw there was another series, he couldn't wait to get his hands on them. He tore through them and learned some history and facts about Washington DC in the process. I highly recommend the whole Capital Mysteries series.
Good mystery series for pre-teen readers.

My 8-year-old son has enjoyed this book series very much. The reading level is comfortably easy for him and he enjoys solving the mysteries. It keeps him reading and even teaches him some facts at the same time. I recommend this whole series.

I began my acquaintance with Eudora Welty's works in college with One Writer's Beginnings and fell in love with the lyrics of her writing. I moved on to her short stories where I believe Ms. Welty surely shines brightest, but her novels are almost as wonderful. Very few people have the depth of insight into the mind and motivations of southerners that Eudora Welty has. She is right up there with William Faulkner. She has the gift of seeing and conveying the universal experiences of her decidedly regional cast of characters.
Since this is a collection of all of Ms. Welty's novels it is difficult to give a concise review. Suffice it to say that for reading pleasure you will not spend better money. The Optimist's Daughter won the Pulitzer Prize, but Losing Battles may be even better (the novel centers on all of the family stories told at a huge family reunion--great framing device for so many wonderful tales). The Robber Bridegroom is a southern fairy tale.
Eudora Welty is a giant of literature. This is a great Library of America collection. Buy it!
Mistress of Southern Fiction

Each new volume from The Library of America, the non-profit publisher that has become the de facto literary hall of fame, is a cause for celebration. Its goal of preserving in an enduring format the best fiction and non-fiction is a significant bulwark against the encroaching tides of cultural relativism that attempts to render any value judgments meaningless, as well as a consumer society that insists that if it ain't new, it ain't good.
In the case of Eudora Welty, we're given two volumes: a collection of five novels ("The Robber Bridegroom," "Delta Wedding," "The Ponder Heart," "Losing Battles" and the Pulitzer-winning "The Optimist's Daughter"), and another of her essays, her memoir "One Writer's Beginnings" and her short stories. From her first published short stories, "Lily Daw and the Three Ladies" in 1937, to her last novel in 1972, Welty captures with her highly readable style and sharp eye and ear the varieties and eccentricities of Southern life.
But while the South claims Welty as one of its own, she may not necessarily return the favor. Teh cause is both geographic and a matter of choice. Although she was born in Jackson, Miss., in 1909 and lived there all her life, her father was from Ohio and her mother from West Virginia, a state created by the Civil War that went for the Union. This isn't Margaret Mitchell we're talking about here.
Then, in her essay "Place in Fiction," she stresses that while it is important for a writer to capture the feeling of an area, it is not the paramount goal in fiction:
"It is through place that we put out roots ... but where those roots reach toward ... is the deep and running vein, eternal and consistent and everywhere purely itself, that feeds and is fed by the human understanding."
But what pedigree does not provide, her environment probably did, for her work contains those elements poularly associated with Southern fiction. "Delta Wedding" celebrates the Southern family through the sprawling Fairchild clan and its passel of sons, daughters, cousins, aunts, great-aunts, nieces and nephews, all involved in each others' lives to a degree rarely seen today.
Many of her stories revolve around characters marginalized by society, struggling to exist and reach out to others: the simple Lily Daw who tries to evade the determination of the town's ladies to either marry her off or send her to the asylum; the generous, slightly retarded Daniel Ponder who would give away everything he has at the drop of a hat; the demented Clytie in "A Curtain of Green," who rushes about looking in people's faces until, seeing her reflection in a barrel of rainwater, dives in and drowns.
Eudora Welty was a sharp, perceptive writer, and her enshrinement by the Library of America is most welcome.

This book was AMAZING and a life saver. It's organized for quick access to all the information I needed and I carried this book with me everywhere. The section in the back for business cards was extremely helpful and the pockets at the beginning of each section was perfect for color swatches and notes. Flipping through each section helped me remember key things I wanted to include in my wedding.
My wedding was small (60 guests) and on a small budget, so this book was the inspiration for creative cost cutting ideas and suggestions. If you are planning a larger wedding, you may need an additional, more detailed planner, but for a small wedding, this was all I needed. I brought my planner with me to each store and meeting with vendors and received numerous compliments on how organized I was and how adorable the planner is.
This book is worth every penny!

This planner is a good size for taking along on shopping/planning trips, it is well laid out and has some good planning tools for todays bride. I wish the pockets were sturdier (putting some clear tape at the bottom of the pockets has done the trick) and a just a bit wider, otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

I bought this book during a panic-induced wedding planning spree shortly after I got engaged. It's a basic listing planner, and the mini pocket folders in the book are indeed useful. It's best utilized as your real-life companion to everything you enter into The Knot website (which is also useful, but doesn't reaffirm my need to not have a huge expensive wedding the way this book does), durable, and compact enough to pack in a shoulder bag. Although it does work as a stand-alone item, I found it helpful to buy the "Anti-Bride Guide" as well. It reduced my anxiety level significantly, and I highly recommend it to anyone who prefers the idea of a meaningful but unconventional wedding.

I recieved this book as a present from my MOH. The title is a little misleading. This book is more for women who want to be brides- just not the normal cookie cutter bride- not for women who do not want to be brides at all.
My MOH thought I would like it because my fiance is the one who wants the wedding and I do not. I have found some good tips in hte book, but it caters to woman who want a wedding.

This wedding planner book is just like any other. It's not anti anything. I found a better book with more space and easier organization. If your looking for the anti traditional wedding planning, your best bet is to just look on the internet for ideas instead of in this book.
