This book has been indispensable for me. The groom and I became engaged while we were finishing the last year of our Ph.D.'s and then starting jobs as professors. We don't have lots of time to plan and made our degrees top priority. I didn't start planning in earnest until about 6mos before the date. This book is fabulous for this situation. I can sit down about once a month and see where I am or read about questions to ask vendors before we meet. The anecdotes are "ok" some things are pretty obvious to most brides at this point, I imagine. However, there were still lots of great things left for me to learn from this book. It also has a checklist in the front that is much more realistic than some (e.g., it doesn't start "13 months before the wedding imagine your special day"). I think it has the best "1 week before the wedding" checklist I have ever seen. The chapter on invitation is also top notch!
Helpful, but not budget.

I had a four month engagement, so this book was very helpful in organizing what needs to be done in such a short time. But it's definitely not for the budget wedding (it doesn't claim to be) - spending money to have other people do things is a time saver and can keep you from being too stressed during your engagement. This book has helpful charts to fill in and keep you organized, whether you are having a do-it-yourself kind of wedding or hiring lots of professionals. I would recommend this book to any bride to be, short engagement or long.

To be fair, I did buy this book used so some of the information was outdated. There were a few items that were helpful and gave me good ideas but overall I thought that it should have been more useful to a person planning a wedding in 6 months or less. Most of the information just seemed to be practial information used as filler. And almost all of it was the same as the other guides I bought which were written for people with ages to plan their weddings.

I was disappointed with this book. I was looking for something that would make me feel less stressed out about the short time to plan a wedding, but instead it increased it. The book starts off by telling you that because of your short time you will need to do six months of work in the first month. The book is useful as a wedding planning guide, but it says a lot of the same things that other wedding planning books say. I wouldn't read this book as a real help for planning a wedding quickly though.

This book has been very useful in figuring out ways to mitigate the expense of planning a wedding quickly (I'm @ 5 months and counting!!) Without as much time to shop around, you need to get creative and this book does help. Some of the ideas are obvious, but there are enough you won't have thought of to make the purchase worth it. Written in a friendly, enjoyable style to make it a fun read.

My mother-in-law gave me this book prior to our wedding 27 years ago, and because of the timeless information it provides we found it very helpful in doing our part in planning for the 2007 wedding of one of our daughter's best friends! My daughter, husband, and I were responsible for writing, printing, & addressing the invitations & reply cards, and this was invaluable for sample invitations, correct forms of address, and lists of the appropriate way(s) to do things. (Remember, if in doubt err on the side of properness & tradition to keep those wagging tongues silent - for some reason everyone thinks your wedding is about THEM.) My husband was the official wedding photographer (with me as his assistant) and it was a godsend to have Miss Manners' suggested lists of photographs to be taken. Not only did it help us think of everything the bride and groom might want but it made us much more confident that we were not neglecting relatives, special friends, parents of special friends, etc.
Thank you, Miss Manners!

What can I add to the glowing reviews left by other readers, except to say that I am so glad I read this before I even started planning my own wedding? It is a thoroughly enjoyable book, with plenty of laugh-out-loud bits that had me reading aloud to my roommates. Miss Manners is now helping me to maintain my sanity through the planning of my own wedding. Every time someone tells me something I "must" do, I have her to fall back on rather than panicking about the expectations of others. I've already bought a copy for my sister, and I'm thinking of buying more for my and my fiance's parents. I really cannot recommend this book highly enough.

In her signature acerbic style, Miss Manners offers suggestions for wedding etiquette that will be entertaining and useful for anyone planning, or enduring, a wedding. She disparages such popular myths as My Perfect Day and required registries and gives the engaged couple and their families a guide for having a charming, meaningful wedding without exhausting themselves or treading on too many toes in the process. Reading this book should be a prerequisite for getting engaged.

Love, love, LOVE this book and Miss Manners! Lots of the basic questions that came up in planning my wedding were covered, but more important is the philosophy she espouses. After you read this book you will find it hard to flip through all those bridal magazines without rolling your eyes at the fuss they make over trivial topics. Miss Manners reminds you what's truly important. We had a lovely wedding that was universally described as "perfect" and no stress whatsoever in planning it. I give this book to all my friends as soon as they get engaged.

The book has no real overview, but jumps from the method of one successful wedding photographer to the next, fifteen in all. I was surprised how little insight was provided to digital albums; many of these photographers still shoot film. The albums shown are extremely high end, probably not the best fit for less established photographers. I much preferred "Digital Wedding Album Design Guide" by Kathy Woodford, which is a more nuts and bolts book.

If you don't have a clue about how to start marketing wedding albums, this book may help you. If you're already apt at marketing your albums or a pro at design just looking for new inspiration, this book will make a great make-shift mousepad or a coaster for your drink!
For designers: The first couple of chapters show nice album designs (including some designs by Yervant). The rest of the book shows lackluster designs, and boring, old fashioned matted albums or products that are not even albums (like boxes of matted prints. Who buys boxes of matted prints in lieu of a traditionally bound album??? Absolutely worthless.)
For marketers: The marketing "tips" were vague. The pros aren't selling their secrets here. The featured products are severly limited...ever heard of Leather Craftsman?? Of course you have! Well, you'll hear a lot more about it in this book! I really could have used help with introductions to other vendors and comparisons or reviews between them! Vendors who offer similar quality to Leather Craftsman but with lower prices and faster turnaround (like Zookbinders!). I don't need to read over and over again about Leather Craftsman with GraphiStudio thrown in once for good measure.
I give this book 2 stars flat.

I bought this book hoping to learn the approaches and theories to making great wedding albums. As it turns out, this book is mostly about various established photographers and their business history and methods- how they got started, how they book clients, what their routine is on the wedding day etc. That's fine, but very little emphasis was actually put on the album design!
The only photographer's profile that included any eye-catching contemporary designs were that of Martin Schembri. And he really didn't talk about his designs much!
Also, this book is really dated, even though its copyright says 2003. I assume these interviews were done years earlier.
For example, Michael Ayers encourages the reader to attend Winona Photography school in Chicago. Well, the Winona school moved to Atlanta in 1994. And changed its name to the PPA International School of Photography in 1999.
Just Bad.
The layouts are also very outdated. Some of the albums look like my grandparents' album.
This book was a horrible investment. It helped me very little. Unless you have just bought your first camera and are wide-eyed to shoot your first ever wedding, this book has very little to offer you.

This is a wonderful family bible! What a value! It is beautifully constructed and the pages have gorgeous artwork by Thomas Kincaid. The style of the writing is easily understandable, even by children. There are special "family memory" sections on special events and even difficult ones, and how the family got through them together. I gave one of these bibles to my daughter and son-in-law as part of their wedding presents, and when my other daughter saw the bible, she asked for one too. I would
unequivocally recommend this bible to anyone as a gift that will be treasured for many years.

The Victorians paid a lot of especial attention to wedding costumery, as Joanne Olian shows in her slim volume displaying the evolution of bridal and bridal-party fashion from 1860 to 1912 as seen in the fashion plates of the famous magazine "La Mode Illustree". The illustrations, all in B&W, are full-page and always accompanied by at least one paragraph of descriptive text taken from the original source material. This book should be owned in conjunction with Olian's other volume, "Victorian and Edwardian Fashions from La Mode Illustree", for a really comprehensive look at the topic of Victorian fashion. Also, anyone who is considering organizing a Victorian-themed wedding will definitely want to peruse this book for ideas!

Dover has a whole series of books devoted to reproductions of vintage fashions. "Wedding Fashions, 1860-1912: 380 Costume Designs from 'La Mode Illustree'" has not only reproductions of illustrations but also detailed descriptive captions. These are not just bridal gowns done in satin, taffeta, and lace, but also creations for bridal attendants, sisters of the bride, and so forth (the idea that the sister of the bride has to have a special dress was an interesting insight into Victorian society). These authentic Victorian fashions will be of interest to costume designers, cultural historians, and fashion enthusiasts. Companion volumes provide full-color fashion plates, contemporary photographs, and authentic fashion patterns.

I just finished the book, and I have to say "Kudos!" to the author. That was a wonderful read. I can't believe you made me fall in love again, not only with the stories, but also with the place. I've been a New England fan for quite some time, although I haven't been able to visit any place there. You painted the town of White Birch so perfectly, I felt like I was there during all these events.
My ultimate favorite is Lambert's Code. I'm not yet married. Honestly, I prefer single man meets single girl, and they fall in love stories. But with this story, I realize that there is a new type of love when you fall in love, get married, and have all the problems you two can share.
Plus, I see myself in Taylor and Elizabeth's shoes too much. Me, career girl? Seems like it.
Thank you for the wonderful read. 5 stars for the books. I hope that you'll have more stories from White Birch!

Jungle Wedding is an often brilliant, often scary look at American life. "Public Burning" is one of the finest stories I've read in recent memory and serves as a wake-up call to the people who think Columbine and "American Beauty" were the first harbingers of doom for the 21st Century. My only question is why we haven't seen more from this talented writer.

I got my copy of this book right before it was put on the "banned book" list while I was in college and taking Children's Literature. I've loved the book and so have both of my daughters. I recently purchased it for my two year old granddaughter, and she loves it as much as both of my daughters and I. It has a sweet story and the pictures are amazing. Garth Williams puts so much expression on the rabbits' faces that you can't help but empathize with them. You can't go wrong with this book.

THIS REALLY IS A SWEET STORY, BUT THE PICTURES ALMOST ALL SEEM THE SAME. WOULD BE A GOOD BEDTIME STORY, BUT NOT SOMETHING I'D WANT TO READ MORE THAN TWICE.
Lovely, whimsical, beautiful subtext

I remember as a child loving this book because it must have had all the right ingredients: a little sorrow, joy, love and beautiful illustrations that took me into a wonderful world of imagination. That would have been in the early 70s - in the UK. Looking back I understand why this book came into my life - I was a biracial child. My mother is white Scottish and my father black Caribbean. On some level, it brought clarity and understanding to what my parents must have had to experience in their own travels and after their own rabbits' wedding. With the subtext or without it, it's a lovely book and I'm so happy to see it's still in print.

This is the book that opened my eyes to the censorship of books. Around 1960, this book was quite controversial and banned in some places. I had just started working in a library and went immediately to the book to see what the fuss was about.
Oh, yeah. It's a white bunny and a black bunny. I imagine the illustrator did this so you could tell one from the other in a black-and-white book; wouldn't it be confusing if they were both white or both black?
Busy (or maybe it's idle) minds can see anything, I guess. Advocating mixed racial marriage? I didn't think so then and I don't 45 years later.
The expressions on these two rabbits' faces are so precious, I can't believe anybody sees anything more than a warm, wonderful story with incredible illustrations.

Call me sentimental but I totally love this book!!And I'm 42.I first read this book about 10 years ago when I started working in a library and found lots of children's books I never knew existed.I only heard about the racial issues later on. I only saw a sweet, poignant book about the kind of love most people dream about. So the characters were rabbits. The analogies about love and marriage shot me straight in the heart and I bet most people would feel the same.I bought this and am now looking for a vintage copy to own. Read this to little ones (and grown ups)and get ready for some tears.P.S.-the art is fabulous!
