This book was the perfect little top to a shower gift from one of my dear friends! I've used it for all of the gifts we've received for our wedding and it's made the process so much less stressful! A jewel of a book I'd recommend to everyone.

I bought this for a friend who needed a quick solution to writing all of the thank you notes from her wedding. In return, I received a thoughtful and well-organized note thanking me for sending her, as she wrote, " one of my most useful wedding gifts." With a response like that, I'll be sending this book to every bride-to-be I know!

Great overview... good starting place for trip-planning...

Review Date: 2004-08-02
This book has provided me with a fantastic starting point for honeymoon-planning... As someone who has had a fairly extensive and diversified travel "portfolio", I have found this book to be very helpful in providing me with ideas for new and exotic places to visit. It's not packed with too much information, but gives enough of an overview to let you know whether you would like to pursue more details or if the hotel is not quite what you are looking for...

One drawback: not a great book if you are looking for a low-budget vacation, as most of the hotels included in it are quite pricey... If you are looking for a more economical vacation, I would recommend something like "Hip Hotels: Budget".

Good but not enough

I bought this book hoping that it would help me to pick a honeymoon place around the world. Even though it has a lot of good information it lacks at variety of places in terms of price. If you are looking to spend 600 to 3000 a night for your honeymoon, this book has it all.
but if you want to explore more affordable places , this book is NOT your guide.

Waste of time and money

This book seems like a collection of glossy travel brochures. There is little information given for comparison (e.g. trying to decide which region to go to) and a lot of the text is repeated verbatim for many of the resorts. The 'useful information' provided for each resort includes things such as "the gift shop has an excellent collection of souvenir t-shirts." I really doubt anyone is choosing their wedding/honeymoon destination based on this. However, my biggest problem with this book is that it seems to favor certain resort chains, which makes me question its objectivity. Specifically, 2 Sheraton resorts that we have visited in Hawaii on previous vacations were given superb reviews. In our experience, they were a little run-down (with the rooms in sore need of renovation) and had below average facilities (obviously a beautiful natural setting, but disappointing swimming pools, etc). Fine for a four-day getaway, but I would have been very disappointed had I read this review and gone there for my honeymoon or wedding. This makes me question the accuracy of the other writeups in the book.

(this review contains spoilers for volumes one and two)
The second volume, logically, pics up where the first left off. In this one you're getting to meet what appears to be the main villian for this one, a man who seems, for some reason, interested in what the original creator of the Academy deemed "talentless and powerless", seven. Her and her violin seem to be the big key to something.
On top of that you get to find out what happened to 05 who has dissapeared when he was ten.
The "family dynamic" is far from a functional one and it's both a little sad and amusing to witness the group gathering for Hargreeves funeral.
Personal, of all the characters so far I like Pogo, the coffee drinking, scientifically altered chimp who seems to be running things now since the Professor's death.

Greed will save my irresponsible brother!

This is a cute little romp about a couple who are thrown together by the death of an aunt. The aunt's will stipulates that the nephew and companion must marry each other to inherit. The one who does not show up to the wedding inherits nothing.

Normally, the sweet companion would have handed the money over, but she must save her brother from himself. He has become a smuggler underground to hide from the loans sharks that covered his gambling debts. As he is risking his life daily, the heroine decides to risk going up against the formidable lord in order to make him cry off so she can pay her brother's debts. The lord in question, however, is a worthy opponent, and hijinks and romance ensue...

Fortunately, this story features likable characters, as the plot (and the heroine's and her brother's repentance for their greedy ways) seems a bit sketchy, improbable and formulaic.

Enjoy!

This book was predictable but most bodice rippers are predictable; after all, if the hero and heroine didn't fall in love it wouldn't be much of a love story. This is one of those little books that you can finish in one sitting. Even though Molly and Hart started out at loggerheads, they were both very likeable characters and I wanted to see what would cause them to resolve their differences. When Molly was kidnapped and Hart was injured trying to rescue her, I thought, "Yep. That'll do it!" I see that Ms. Raleigh has written a lot of books and I have added her to my list of authors whose books I will be searching for. It wasn't "War and Peace" but I greatly enjoyed this book!

The Honorable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher is at the manor house of the Earl of Haverhill to provide support to her best friend Lucy, who is marrying Lord Gerald Bincombe in a few days. Daisy's husband Detective Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher is to meet her just before the wedding, but when someone murders Lady Eve, Haverhill uses his clout to have Alec assigned to investigate instead of the local constabulary.

Daisy informs her spouse that the victim collected gossip on aristocrats over the years, which means that just about everyone attending the wedding had a motive. Before Alex gets very far, Lord Farthingay, the heir dies most likely by poison. The next day Lucy's fiancée is found bleeding from a blow to the head and the doctor is not sure whether he will recover from the trauma. Alec and Daisy are under pressure to solve the case before the killer strikes again.

A MOURNING WEDDING is a complex entertaining mystery that followers of the series will enjoy as Daisy is the pregnant amateur sleuth mingling with the aristocracy in a way her spouse cannot in order to aid the official investigation. The married couple is a fine sleuthing team working together to solve the case while adding ardor to their unique relationship that fans of Carola Dunn will appreciate.

Review Date: 2004-10-05
A wedding in the country, a country manor full of gossipy aristocratic relatives with scandalous secrets to hide, and murder -- it could only be the latest installment in the charming and light hearted Daisy Dalrymple mystery series. In "Mourning Wedding," Daisy's good friend, Lucy Fotheringay, is about to be married to her patient and loving longtime beau, Gerald. The wedding is to take place at Lucy's grandfather's palatial manor in the country, and Daisy has agreed to come down ahead of the guests in order to give her friend some much needed moral support. What she finds is Lucy in two minds about whether or not she actually wants to marry Gerald, and a house full of eccentric relatives -- some nice and some rather poisonous. And while Daisy is rather troubled about Lucy's frame of mind, her worries about her friend soon fly out the window when Lucy's grandaunt Eva, a collector of family gossip, is found strangled in bed. Soon, Daisy is trying to figure which one of Lucy's relatives is guilty of murder even as she battles morning sickness. Was grandaunt Eva murdered because of her penchant for collecting scandal? Or is there some mad murderer bent on decimating the Fotheringay family? Fortunately for Daisy, her husband, Chief Inspector Alec Fletcher of Scotland Yard has been assigned to the case, and together they're bound to discover who the murderer is before (s)he can strike again...

If you're in the mood for a nice, well written, lighthearted murder mystery set in the roaring twenties, "A Mourning Wedding" will definitely please. While not a very "deep" mystery novel that is full of cunning twists and turns, "A Mourning Wedding" was such a pleasant and enjoyable read, and Daisy (the detecting heroine) was such a nice and engaging character, that one soon finds oneself deeply immersed in the goings-on in the book. Charming, engaging and thoroughly enjoyable, "A Mourning Wedding" proved to be an all around pleasing read.

THE WEDDING BOOK FOR JEWISH COUPLES

I have worked with many couples over the years and no book explains the entire wedding and all its significance like Rabbi Kaplan. Other books are so focused on alternative weddings, they don't teach the real thing.

Rabbi Kaplan is authentic, authoritative, and deeply mystical.

"Made in Heaven' is an excellent resource for those planning or performing a wedding and are interested in easily understanding Jewish traditions and Halacha. I performed the wedding ceremony for a niece (my first wedding) and this book gave me comfort that the wedding would be acceptable according to Halachikh and eased my mind as the Mesader Kiddushin. Whether you are leading the ceremony or simply want to know more about Jewish weddings, I strongly recommend this book.

This is the book to read if you have a family member or friend who's orthodox and you want to understand nearly EVERYTHING about Jewish practice involving weddings. Or, if you have become orthodox or are marrying somebody who is at that level. And of course, if you just want to understand how the orthodox and very orthodox practice when it comes to wedding ceremonies.

Aryeh Kaplan is a genius and I'd recommend nearly anything he writes. Unfortunately, he passed away at an early age.

A previous reviewer said something about messianic "Jews." I can't imagine what that would have to do with this book, and don't agree that it would offer anything to such a person.

This book was supposed to have been published in 2001. I felt as if I was reading a book published in the 40's or 50's. The characters were not believable at all. People in England do not talk like this in the 2000's. Waste of my money. I would have liked to have given it 0 star (but couldn't) due to how too old-fashion the whole writing was for the year 2000.

A pleasant story.

Back Cover description: A business proposalor more? Meeting Dr. Roele van Dyke was a blessing for Emma Dawson. He always seemed to go out of his way to make her happy, and she couldnt imagine life without him.
And when the time came for Roele to return to Amsterdam permanently, he knew he couldnt leave Emma behind. So he offered her a job at his surgery. Emma was in love and simply couldnt refuse. But did Roele want Emma to be his secretary or his wife?

A nice, pleasant Betty Neels story. Emma is not a nurse; she is taking care of her whiny, selfish mother. The mother is almost too much to take, but thankfully she is gone by the halfway point. Emma has no skills, so it is not easy for her to get jobs she can make money at. Roele is in love with her by page 72. The rest of the book follows along the same route that Ms. Neels always uses, but heyits why I read these

This is an interesting book about a very interesting lady.
Ms Quine has an intimate view of one of the most famous marriages of the past century. She writes eloquently of a time past, where women lived to be married, and the progression to the modern day where most of the bridesmaids had shed those essential husbands.
Ms Quine has an easy to read writing style and you can whip through this book.
My only criticism is that the book focuses far too much on Ms Quine. She seems to have a very high opinion of herself, and while others may have found reading about her interesting, I did not.

It has been a long time since I first read this book, (1994) - however, this biography of Grace Kelly is one that forever stands out in my mind as a great portrayal of the princess and actress.
Quine writes of Grace as only a best friend can. She shows Grace Kelly in good times and sad times, exploring her emotions and her fears and overall, portrays the princess as a real human being. I couldn't help but feel that as I read this book Quine was letting me into Grace Kelly's life a little more than she should, and by the time I finished this book, I felt I knew more about Grace Kelly than ever the media could allow me to. I felt literally, like one of Grace Kelly's friends or even a confidant. That is how close Quine brings you to this legendary person.

Entertaining and unusual

It's an absorbing and different kind of story, this tale of six girls, best friends, of The Lsst of the Hollywood Glamour Girls (Grace Kelly), who were bridesmaids in Ms. Kelly's Royal Wedding. There's more to the book, however, because it's a book about women who grew up believing they would find their Prince and live happily ever after someday -- and didn't.

Whether the bride did or not remains a matter of conjecture, although the impression here is that Grace Kelly Rainier's married life really wasn't all that terrific after all.

The book is opinionated to the point of being offensive. The author solves problems and gives advice to all who would listen. Her voice is strident but her story is compelling. I enjoyed the book, although I certainly do not agree with her perception of the women of her day. (I am one, after all, and I can speak with the authority of personal experience.)

All about Judy.

Ms. Quine, a long-standing friend of the late Princess Grace of Monaco, did a fine job of relating all the details of Grace's engagement and marriage; in fact, I felt that I was right there alongside her and Grace throughout all the proceedings. I simply couldn't have gotten a more detailed or accurate account of one of the greatest weddings of the 20th century.

What turned me off was that Ms. Quine spent way too much time discussing her own life: Her father's head-honcho job at a movie studio; her family's wealth and status; her own numerous, tumultuous marriages; her personal problems; and her errant children. She might as well have made this an autobiography! For those of you who don't know much about the details of Grace Kelly's life, you'll most certainly know less about her than you will about the author after you finish reading this book.
