A very practical book for non-lawyers

With escalating competition from every angle; an extremely volatile marketplace; and mounting scrutiny that is being placed on businesses, their leaders are seeking new ways to continue to do business not only legally, but ethically, personably, economically. Goldman and Sigismond have provided a road map to threading on the legal mines without being blown away. For non-lawyers, like me, there is no doubt that this work will provoke a lot of interest and challenges to business leaders who find themselves dealing with a lot of conflicting issues today; and where legal and ethical "maybes" - the gray lines, are more prevalent than before. It appears that through the numerous cases, Goldman and Sigismind sensed a need to show non-lawyers how to navigate through the legal landmines safely. [Nwankama Nwankama]

Only good if you're completely new.

Lot of book is common knowledge. Chapters too long. Examples at end of chapters aren't very creative. Definitely a starter/intro level book.

Decent starter.

From what I can tell this book does a great job compressing business law into very concise chapters. I for one don't like long drawn out chapters about the same subject matter. I lose interest after the first few hours of reading any text book. The chapters move quick enough to really make me feel interested in the subject. I use this book for a intro into business law and think is does a pretty decent job aiding my education.

we had some shipping problems with this book, but it got to me in one piece and in proper time.

Good for beginners, but likely to upset anyone else!

If you're buying this book for yourself, spare yourself the headache. It is certainly not of any academic value, and considering what I've read so far, it does even appear to be a business law book. The book chronicles very simple and basic legal matters, and presents these topics in such a way, someone interested in a thorough discussion of them would likely become upset.

As I said before, unless you have a very basic interest in law, ignore this book as much as you can. Also, because the book is not state-specific, there's not much you can get out of the book. It presents general information, which is of no use to those who want to learn specifics.

I've given it two stars just because it would probably be good for a beginner.

Bought this book as I was planning a trip to Glacier National Park with my wife and seven year old daughter. It was our first vacation west of the Mississippi and reading the book felt like I had already been there and it was easy to find my way around. We spent seven days in Glacier and, while we did not get to everything I had hoped, the book was indispensable. Ms. Lomax' spot-on descriptions of campgrounds, restaurants and camp stores as well as trails and sights helped us prepare better to enjoy the trip.

I can't imagine a more helpful guide!

Fantastic guide for the park. Prices were higher than book states for many hotels and activities, so double check those since they go up constantly. Other than that, this is a great guide!

A good book with lots of details about Glacier National Park. However, it doesn't do a great job at explaining the big picture about the park and helping a first time visitor understand the general layout. There should be a different first few paragraphs that explain for a first time visitor. I couldn't find any better books though, so this is a good choice.

This was a great guide for my trip to Glacier. It proved to be invaluable. It detailed hikes, routes, accommodation, dining and wildlife in the park very accurately.Pretty much everything could be taken as fact, such as the overcrowding at Logan's Pass and the side of the car you should sit on if you're nervous of heights whilst on the Going-to-the-Sun road.
In fact, at Glacier it was the ONLY guide book I could find on the park (although I'd bought mine on Amazon!).
If your planning on visiting Glacier get this book in advance. It's really interesting as it tells you histories related to the park and lets you in on events that happen throughout the year, as well as good tips as to view the wildlife.

A Good HRM Material

Review Date: 2000-10-02
I have read this book at graduate level as a class material in Human Resource Management. The most obvious priority of Schulers book is its case studies which are developed elaborately and absolutely topic-related. It was my assignment to translate case studies included in this book into Turkish and while I was reading cases, I realized that as I read, I better understood topics. Although cases are impressive in this book, the chapter titled as "The Role of HRM Department in Total Quality Management Process" is not rich in terms of content.

I reccommend this book especially to international students whose English proficiency level is not very high because the language and structure of Schulers book is very simple, accordingly understandable. A good source in the field of HRM. Highly reccommended.

I've been using my How 4 book since the early 80s. We have a number of different books for grammar and style questions in my office but I find How to be the easiest & quickest when it comes to finding an answer. My copy is worn and tattered and has many notes I've added inside. As I said, I'm still using How 4 and thought I'd upgrade but I'm really astonished at the price. $50 for this book seems outrageous. I guess I'll keep using 4.

Complicated and Deep

This is a good exposition of mindfulness theory and practice. Althought a novice therapist will find the text useful, most of the insight gained by reading this text will be achieved by therapists with 5 to 10 years actual practice under their belts. I would advise novice therapists to buy this book immediately and then delve into each chapter several times per month for the next few years. They will never regret it. The problem and promise on this book is that it requires you to go back and review each concept of your original training, whether it is Adlerian, Freudian, Cognitive or Christian. Mindfulness is the goldplating overlay that makes your therapy more valuable.

a wise, invaluable resource

This well-written, wise, accessible book will help novice and seasoned therapists incorporate mindfulness practice into their clinical work, skillfully and thoughtfully. The editors and contributors provide a range of expert perspectives on the role of mindfulness in psychotherapy and convey the complexity of good psychotherapy, mindfulness practice, and the union of the two. The clarity with which they accomplish this is remarkable. The depth of their personal and professional expertise and experience is evident throughout. Inclusion of a thorough review of current research in the area is another notable strength of the volume. I highly recommend this book to clinicians and researchers interested in the powerful role that mindfulness may play in psychological healing. It is essential reading for anyone interested in this highly promising area of study.

As a psychotherapist for 30 years and a mindfulness practitioner for nearly 10 years, I have read a lot of good books and articles on both subjects. "Mindfulness and Psychotherapy" is as clear and helpful in both disiplines as any I have encounted. The editors have done a 'mindful' job in selecting from an array of perspectives. Mindfulness is defined and contextualized for our western psychotherapeutic practice, while also placed in an historical and cultural framwork that informs and enlightens our understanding. Indeed the more philosophical essays are perhaps the strongest pieces in this marvelous compendium. We are reminded that the Buddah saw himself as a physician who sought to diagnose and find a cure for human suffering. Out of his own intimate encounter with suffering, he devised and revised a program that we in western psychological science are just now testing and finding curative-both for our clients and for ourselves.
There is much here to be considered by all schools of psychotherapy. Paul Fulton presents an intriguing chapter on Mindfulness as Clinical Training. There are concise chapters on teaching mindfulness skills to clients (even children)with varying disorders, including panic, anxiety, depression, and psychophysiological problems. There is a comprehensive while managable 'Resources for the Clinician" appendix.
Andrew Olendzki deserves special mention for his piece on "The Roots of Mindfulness." I had to stop highlighting as each page was yellowed with brightness.
If you are a psychotherapist, a meditator, or thinking of practicing either, you will do well to read this wonderful book.

As an adult student, I feared having to take History 101. It was an online class, and the professor I had was not very good, but this book taught me a lot. The authors emphasize the relationship of ethics and morality with the development of western religions and governments from early Mesopotamia until 1789. For example, it helped me to understand the different viewpoints of the contemporary issues happening in the Middle East (why and how religion serves as a basis for many governments.)

If you are considering taking a History course that uses this textbook, or just want to learn more about how our world's societies have developed, I highly recommend this book. I didn't continue with History 102, but I did buy Volume II of this book series from Perry, et al., to continue my understanding world issues. Please join me!
