This book was an easy read, very informative, to the point that I am making up an outline of it to share with my downline to use as a guide. I am a seasoned networker, and I wish I had had this information when I got involved in networking in the past, and it also would have helped me to weed out the ones that I should not get involved with. This book doesn't say "don't do this or that company", but once you see the information, you can see which companies fit with the important points necessary for a positive money-making experience in networking!

Best Business Card

As a "seasoned" network marketer, I have never found a book that helps explain what we do today vs. decades ago when network marketing began AND that explains the power of exponential growth using leverage and duplication. It is clear after reading just the preface if you are cut out for this business, which saves a lot of time on the front end. Using the book then as a training manual for how to do what we do becomes a tool and capitalizes on the duplication process. The only question that one must ask themselves after reading the first two paragraphs of the Preface is...."can you do this?"...and to that I mean, can you hand the book to someone and ask them to read the first two paragraphs of the Preface....that person will tell you either "I'm interested, or I'm not interested"...and you can move on.
Network marketing is like driving a car. Why would you talk about the vehicle you have to drive if you don't know how to drive. We get to teach people how to drive FIRST...then show them the vehicle we use to make money together using Leverage/Duplication/Exponential Growth!
GREAT tool. Thanks, Don Failla (his 2nd Edition is even better!!!)

Just one heck of a resource. The only thing that keeps me from kicking myself for not buying it 10 years ago is that it has only been in print for three years. HIGHLY recommended to those who are responsible for leading an organization through a lean transformation.

The best functional guide to lean

I searched high and low for a book on Lean manufacturing to better understand its application and function. To many authors go into theory and academic explanations or dialogs of Japanese words. This was what I was looking for! I found this book so valuable that I made it required reading for my entire staff.

We have now started on the lean journey.

If a manufacturing company is looking to create a lean environment, this is a great book to start out with. This covers the main essentials of lean, visual factory, standard work...simple yet powerful. We have seen great improvments in team work & productivity in our product lines. Be patient because changes don't happen overnight.

Excellent Start for Culture Change

This book is an excellent start to navigating a lean culture change. David Mann challenges you to change your "management system" in order to change your culture. Once focus is put on the "management system" you can observe, and measure impact which will then translate into cultural shifts. The book is well written and full of concrete examples of actual implementations as well as roadblocks.

Great reference on real lean

This book fills an essential gap between Liker's Toyota Way and the many books on Lean Tools.

We intentionally didn't begin our lean transformation in our large service orgnization until we had this book because we saw the folly in trying to implement a bunch of lean tools without the necessary management system.

We have visited some Tier 1 Toyota suppliers and Kaizen really means continuous improvement not a succession of week-long projects that many big-time consultants and organizations focus on.

This book is our defacto lean transformation handbook and I am glad to see that it has become a standard reference for at least two MBA programs in the area.

Not a bad book at all. The author has done a superb job in approaching the bad habit problems we humans have developed over our lifetime into another way of thinking about it. I think if you are like most people and have tried everything out there including reading various books on goal setting this one might be worth trying. It has helped me, I'm not completely there yet but I feel I am at least on the right path.

I'm someone who spent years stuck in a rut. I spent a lot of time wondering why I never got anything done but never did anything beyond wondering. I've spent the last few years turning my entire life around. I quit drinking, quit smoking, started working out, started taking my job seriously (which has garnered me two promotions in three years), and generally started taking charge of my life and I've found that I love getting up and getting to it every day. Something I never could have claimed before in my 30+ years. A lot of these changes have been hard work. I've read a LOT of self help material and found hidden gems here and there. I only wish I had found THIS book years earlier. Everything I've learned. Everything I've known. It's help me put all of that into action. Have you ever run across a situation where you KNOW you could teach the world how to do something but you just CAN'T do it yourself? Well, this is the book for you. I'm on my second time reading it and I just bought three more copies, bringing my total purchased to eight. I've given them away to a lot of the people I kind of left behind when I started changing my old life. Even the ones who don't read are reading it. I've seen weight loss, better jobs, less stress, less anger, reduced drinking, happier relationships... all as a result of things myself and these people have learned through the steps in this book.

If you find yourself in a rut and just can't seem to move forward. Or even if you're doing fine and think you might just need a little push. This book is a priceless work.

Thanks to the author and good luck to everyone else who reads it!

I am a classically trained interior designer and have been practicing for over 20 years. A couple of years ago, I decided to learn Feng Shui to mix it up a bit.

Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life is one book I read to learn Feng Shui. I also read others--many of them were too "far out. " Move Your Stuff, however, is a terrific Feng Shui book. Concise and easy to understand is at the core of why this book is so good.

Last year, I used Move Your Stuff and Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify and Energize Your Life, Your Home and Your Planet when I moved into my new home. Harmonious Environment is Feng Shui + green living + great design and the books work wonderfully together. The Feng Shui approach is slightly different from the authors and they both make sense.

My home is now gorgeous. The Feng Shui techniques I used helped me land the job of my dreams, brought my husband and I closer and has erased the friction between (some)family members.

I use the techniques on some of my clients, too and have equally as impressive results.

Right on!

Easy to Follow...and it Works!

Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life : How to Use Feng Shui to Get Love, Money, Respect and Happiness

This little book by Karen Rauch Carter is the best feng shui book I've read. Use it and go to work making the changes that bring love, money, respect and happiness.

Carter's simple power tools are easy to incorporate into your life. She begins with the feng shui toolbox, explaining chi energy, the bagua, cures for what ails your space, etc. and then goes on to explain all aspects of feng shui cures for your home, your life and your well-being.

Power tools for prosperity might be as simple as clearing your clutter and adding something purple to the prosperity corner of your home or a single room or as complex as diagraming your home's layout. Either way, her methods are fun and interesting, and whether you choose to incorporate her ideas or not, you will find the book a fascinating read.

I personally used this book to de-clutter and decorate my home and can attest to the wonderful results.

Very highly recommended.

This book presents a simple worksheet to help you analyze your resistance to change. Once completed, you will understand the inner conflicts that hinder your personal and professional development despite your best intentions. Of course, simply understanding these conflicts isn't enough, so the authors present methods to understand the usefulness of your resistance, eliminate your judgement around it, and harness its power for change.

This method has helped me overcome my greatest dissatisfaction at work and I've experienced amazing results. I must warn, however, that despite being simple it entails quite a bit of self observation and continued effort. But this in itself is a huge asset.

I highly recommend this book for anybody experiencing even the slightest dissatisfaction at work or in life.

Finally Understanding Change Resistance as Useful Information

Review Date: 2006-07-11
Imagine getting so much perspective on habits you're not happy about that you can actually keep your commitments to yourself. Using language structure as both the diagnostic and the cure, Kegan and Lahey offer up a fresh guide to creating sustainable change.

While it is designed to be used for workplace issues, it can also be used in other aspects of life. This book is clear, well-written, and so easily accessible it can even be used as a workbook. In fact the authors recommend a study group, and give clear steps to applying the model and specific case studies of participants who have successfully used it to create change. The significant difference between this and all other "managing change" books is a respectful recognition of competing commitments. That is, we don't need to conquer resistance, we need to understand it as a legitimate and experienced based reluctance designed for self-protection. Only then can the source and the solution be brought to light. This way of thinking is a treasure.

Don't dismiss this entry in Charan's business guru tips because most of it is basic, commonsense. My rule for business reading is that if you get one good guideline that's relevant and reliable, the book is worth whatever you paid for it. The "8 skills" that Charan says separates executive winners and losers popped up a valuable, worth-the-price principle for me: A company exec can't let the company go into an internal holding pattern waiting for clear, definite external patterns. If you need an example, think of the companies that lose out when executives waffle or stay on the sidelines while politicians take charge of the external patterns. Climate change legislation is a case in point. Executives of GE, Wal-Mart, Duke Energy, GM, DuPont and others got into the sociopolitical process to shape the rules that companies must live by as the war on carbon unfolds. Charan correctly observes that "the fruits...will belong to the realists" who see the key variables and act to shape their impact.

Bo Knows Football - Ram Knows Know-How!

Review Date: 2008-05-10
Management uber-guru Ram Charan offers a business counterpart to Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" in his book, "Know How." This is an engaging and insightful discussion of eight key skills that comprise business acumen and know how.

"Know How" will be most useful for business executives, especially C-level execs. Nevertheless, those in middle management or those who aspire to a management position cannot help but benefit from the book.

At times, it is tempting to see Charan's recitation as a list of Boy Scout virtues. At other times, it is not easy to discern just how practitioners are to acquire such qualities. Despite his guru and quasi-celeb status, Charan writes in a lucid style that is (relatively) jargon-free.

Reading and heeding "Know How" will turbo-charge your business skill sets.

Good Solid Common Sense Nicely Arranged
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-04-09
This book by Ram Charan has all the hallmarks of a smart business book -- a truly rare thing. I would reccomend it simply because it puts a lot of common sense ideas in print for managers and would be managers to see. In a world where true thirst for knowledge is lacking -- few managers read history, science, or social theory or even good classical literature -- this book is a good shorthand reminder to managers that they need to exhibit the tenets of wisdom even if they do not necessarily possess them.

Therefore the essential points -- basical arbitrary but nonetheless germane -- are as follows.

1. Positioning and Repositioning. Keep asking questions -- ignorance is your friend -- not your enemy -- keep leaning and asking questions.
2. Pinpointing External Change. Do not be static... regard change as part of business
3. Leading the Social System. Viewing your company as an organic part of society and treating it in similar fashion. Business is different -- but it ain't that different. You need combine human traits with business acuman -- the two are not mutually exclusive and people who treat them as such set themselves up for a downfall.
4. Judging People. Match people with positions.
5. Molding a Team. Bringing together good teams and making allowances for their idiosyncracies and not pounding them into theory.
6. Setting Goals. Basically being realistic -- forget about Wallstreet.
7. Setting Priorities. Again realistically .
8. Dealing with Forces beyond the Market. A particularly notable section on dealing with social forces such as human rights and environmental movements and how they impact upon decision making -- the lesson -- never ever ignore them.

There is the regular stories in this book - a late night drink under a starry sky with a recalcitrant manager, a moment of clarity with a person who realises their true worth in a company that values them as an individual and does not try to pound them into a corporate mold. It's there... some intercultural allusions as well.

Of course the common sense attributes of tenacity, and ambition and self-confidence are the defining attributes, but Charan does not succumb to the idea that management is infallible -- in fact Charan propounds an organic philosophy of doubt as the road to enlightenment and also good management practises. But you need to be open, realistic and have a real idea to learn everything posssible and this in Charan's way of thinking encompasses a notion of the broad liberal arts individual with open-mindedness and a passion for life outside the boardroom.

There is not much revolutionary here, but the thoughts are clearly outlined and serve as a nice antidote to notions of corporate excess, greed and the know-nothingness exhibited far too often by business people big and small.

Good work!

As usual solid advice from Ram Charan

Ram Charan has once again showed that doing business is a lot about hard work and less about lofty speeches and buzz words. He teaches the middle manager to think about thier job in the context of the industry they work in. He advises senior managers to have the courage to get into the messy details and make sense of them when defining strategy, laying out execution plans and hiring and firing people. Most business books have a problem - the central idea is exhausted in the first few pages and the author just keeps saying the same things in different ways. Ram Charan's books are very different. Every point is well thought out and is explained vividly. Each chapter adds to the know-how. I wish there was a forum to have a Q&A with him about the points he makes in his books.

Unoriginal and Uninteresting.

This book examines in detail the transitions that we all encounter in our lives and presents strategies to effectively deal with them. The author identifies various transitions that we may go through in all aspects of our lives, including relationships and work. In order to work through a transition in our life, we must go through the three stages of transition: endings, the neutral zone, and the new beginning. Depending on the particular transition, the length of each stage may vary. However, before something new can begin, something else must end. Following the ending, we spend a period of time in the neutral zone which prepares us for the new beginning. There are many examples of real transitions within the book that many people will be able to identify with (change of jobs, marriages, etc).

This is an excellent book for anyone going through a significant change in their life. It accurately describes the feelings and confusion you may be having and talks about how to proceed to a successful completion of the change process. Very encouraging and optomistic.

This book was the first book that I read on emotional change and transition (almost 20 years ago). I have recommended this book to hundreds of people because I have experienced the impact that understanding how to cope with change and transition can have on an individual.

I was fortunate enough to spend a week studying with Mr. Bridges at the CapeCod Institute in 2002 after the launch of his sequel, The Way of Transition. The course was targeted for the helping professions to offer perspective on how people cope with life change and more importantly, how we can support them through it. I was one of the few management consultants in the room amongst pastors, nurses, therapists, teachers, non-profit directors, etc. Needless to say, I was blown away by how limited my view was on the human condition and by how important it is to hold it up, honor it, and respect it both inside and outside of work.

The concepts here are authentic, simple, and compassionate and I believe that they apply to intense, complex, chaotic work environments like large-scale strategic, organizational change, and cross-enterprise initiatives. I strongly believe that as consultants and coaches, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to support our clients by:

*helping them self-identify with how they are dealing with transition while leading change
*reminding them of their compassion for others as they get out their swords for a proverbial "land grab"
*providing their stakeholders with a framework and language to relate to as people vs. work
*teaching executives that the best strategy is to "go slow, to go fast" when it comes to building trust and gaining productivity

So, here's to Mr. Bridges for the legacy of human understanding and compassion in terms that we can all understand and implement for ourselves and for others.

In 1970, William Bridges, an English professor, was experiencing a difficult time in his life. A scholar, he decided to learn all that he could about the psychology of transition. Eventually, he taught a course in it; then he developed his ideas into a book, which quickly became the definitive source on the topic. Psychologists, counselors and other mental health professionals recognized it as a breakthrough self-help text. With insights, information and concepts that you'll be able to apply to everyday life, Bridges leads you through an often angst-ridden process. With his advice, you'll identify and understand your personal development timeline and learn to use change to your advantage. Transitions, ultimately, result in achieving real growth, both spiritually and psychologically. We recommend this classic book to people anticipating or in the midst of professional or personal turning points.
