This anthology contains pieces by both well known authors (like the editors) and people I'd never heard of. As such, it was
great, because I'm definitely on the lookout for more work by some of these. As a whole the book is poignant and will make
anybody who grew up in Hawaii cry.

This book was originally published as 'Mysteries Confucius Couldn't Solve' and then under another title 'Genesis and the Mystery
Confucius Couldn't Solve' and now as 'God's Promise to the Chinese.' I am aware it is printed also in Chinese and available
from Answers In Genesis web site(Apr 2006). I am curious as to why so many name changes?
This work has 3 authors. Only Dr. Ginger Chock seems to have any real expertise on the subject(PhD from Stanford in the History of Chinese Art), though Ethel R. Nelson co-authored 'The Discovery of Genesis' which seems to be mainly the work of C. H. Kang.
The main purpose of this work is to convince the asian populace that the forgotten god Shangdi is the christian god El Shaddai. I refrain from saying jewish god because the (christian)authors insist he is the god of the trinity. They also try to convince you that the ancient chinese expected some final sacrifice, namely Jesus.
They use the radicals from the oracle bone inscriptions to retell(inaccurately) the account of Genesis.
They added such things as:
-Eden was on a mountain
-Adam and Eve lived in a palace
-They came to the "border gate" of Eden to sacrifice
The basic approach of this book, using ancient radicals to link the semitic and oriental peoples, had the potential to be better than 'The Discovery of Genesis.' It should have been, but what can you expect from evangelical christians, they want everyone to believe!
If you are like me and are looking for an unbiased work on the Chinese language and what it can tell us of their history this isn't it; but, I was able to wade through the religious propaganda and find some points of interest. Unlike most religious books these ones I've mentioned have a pretty decent Bibliography/References sections.
Don't get me wrong, there is a lot you can learn here but don't be afraid to question and doubt their claims. Remember 'Israel' means "strugglers with God," doubts and questions are healthly if they lead to a more refined faith.

I very much enjoyed this book. I have had the opportunity to show the oontents of this book to severval friends in and from
mainland China and all them were intrigued. We discussed the accuracy of it and it's plausibility. They thought it's accuracy
was difficult to deny. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in studying the history of chinese characters and
God's design. There are stories from cultures all around the world similiar to these. Could be an accident but it is difficult
to imagine how so many accidents tell the same story. Good read!

I am half English, half Chinese, and grew up in Asia. When I first came across the concept that the story of Genesis 1-11
could be found in the Chinese script, I was a little sceptical. However, when first looking at the word for boat, I asked
the Chinese half of my family what the radicals meant, and they agreed with the conclusion of container, 8, mouths, implying
the story of Noah and the Ark.
Having bought The Discovery of Genesis, Genesis and the mystery confucious couldn't solve, and God's promise to the Chinese, I started reading through them to see what could be a true hypothesis.
While there are some interpretations that could be read another way, for example the character for "good" is interpreted by the authors as a woman plus the son of God (Adam)...this could well be interpreted mother and baby. However, there are others that are quite revealing, such as the word "beginning" is constructed of father and garden/field.
Overall, I would say these books offer a very plausible, although sometimes stretched interpretation of Chinese characters....especially since their research is based on oracle and bone inscriptions, and not just modern script. Well-researched and documented.

I found this book to be very interesting indeed. It was well written and easy to understand. It really opened my eyes to
God's creation and how it testifies to His glory. I even gave the book to a japanese girl who said that their language was
written very much like the chinese, and she was amazed at its foundation.
This is a must have book of interest that any Christian should have on their shelf.

My wife and I literally could not stop reading this book once we got started! The imagery is fresh and the characters are
so well developed and REAL. Lee does a fantastic job with weaving her tale, and there was never a dull moment. We hope that
there will be a sequel in the near future. By the book's end, we'd both learned our own set of valuable lessons. My wife has
already started reading the book for the second time around. If you love well-written drama/romance, this book will not let
you down.

I have to agree with another reviewer, the female protagonist's deceased brother, Chicago was the only character I liked too.
This book is just a return waiting to happen. Thank goodness for Sandra Kitt, Serresia Glass and even Karyn Langhorne (who
is new to the I/R genre). Now these three understand how to write an I/R story that makes a reader care about its characters.
Absolutley aweful!!!! --Spoiler included--

I just finished reading this book last night and I must say this book was absolutly aweful. The main character Eve is soo
vain and selfish! All she thinks about is herself. She carries on and on about how good she looks and how much she loves DJ
because they "look good together". It was impossible to sympathize with her because of this. All she does is use Travis, who
is a really great "white" guy. And just when you think the author is going to change Eve, force her to realize how selfish
she has been acting and how badly she's treating Travis...the author fails us. Travis is dumped for simply being "white" and
easy to love. Eve gains the affection of DJ, which she doesn't deserve for the way she acted. And the mystery behind Chicago's
life/death is revealed. Did I mention that all of this happenes within the last 2 (and very short) chapters? As a reader who
was interested from the beginning, I was very disappointed in the ending and therefore the entire book. I literally threw
the book across the room when I was done. I mind remained with Travis, not Eve. He was so nice and giving to Eve and she treated
him bad. Never really loving him. No reader reviews were available when I purchased this book otherwise I'm sure I would have
been warned how trival this book is and would have bought another. If like me you hate reading bad books, buy another book.
I will never buy another one of Ms. Lee's books.
I have been cheated!

I'am truly disappointed with this book. How can Karen Lee
write such an unrealistic book? I felt very cheated. The only
character I truly liked was Travis. I thought Eve was too shelfish and dellusional. And DJ seems to be to overdrawn
and boring. I was rooting for Travis until the author painted
him as a green monster. I thought the author should have
develop Travis and Eve's relationship. Instead of having Eve
run after DJ. The author really was really rushing through this
book.
This book is not worth the $11.00. If you consider purchasing
this book. Please read the reviews and come up with your own
decision. Karen Lee will not get another dime from me! Karen please
take your time with your next book. Make your characters more
realistic and belivable

Lead Character Does Not Deserve a Happy Ending

I really tried to like the lead character, Evelyn Tallant, but just could not forgive her for her selfishness. Eve was an
extremely thoughtless young woman who hurt two very innocent souls while trying to gain the affections of one DJ, a young
man she has loved most of her life. He, on the other hand, sees her as nothing more than a little sister, I think. So she
schemes to make him jealous enough to throw himself at her feet by dating a white guy. She is under the impression that DJ,
as a black man, won't be able to stomach her being with someone white.
So Eve meets Travis, the pawn in this whole mess and uses him to carry out her plan. He is totally unaware of her scheme, so he falls hard for her, even to the point of hoping they may have a future together. In the meanwhile Eve starts to really develop feelings for the guy, I think. This is where the story gets complicated because she claims to have feelings for Travis, yet she is still using him to get DJ, who by the way, is in love with another woman.
There is also former boyfriend thrown into the mix who Eve says she could care less about even though she admits, at one point, at being flattered by having the attention of both these guys at once.
Did I mention her hypocritical, racist, but God-fearing, parents? They find out about the white guy and ban her from the family, despite the fact their daughter is now also very pregnant by him. I hate it when writers insists the parents of the female protagonist are truly God loving people even though they hate white people. You can't be both. Either you try to live by "The Word", or you don't. Please, Writers, stop making excuses as to why it's acceptable for blacks to hate white people. You can't hate people, and claim to love God at the same time.
Because of Eve's selfishness(her treatment of Travis and her unborn baby), her horrible parents, and even DJ(I really liked him before his wedding, where he made a total 180 degree turn). What happened to the devotion he showed througout the book towards Amber, the girlfriend?
That was the problem with this story. No one, except Travis, seemed capable of genuine and complete love. I kept hoping by the end of the story that nothing would work out for Eve. She did not deserve a happy ending.
