This book's focus is love, forgiveness, taking responsibility for your life, and living in the present rather than hanging onto regret and recrimination. Most spiritual approaches share these beliefs and the book presents little that is new, except its aloha twist. Author Joe Vitale brings in the Hawaiian perspective of his co-author, Ihaleakala Hew Len, a Hawaiian therapist and Ph.D., who advocates the "//ho'oponopono//" method. The authors' emphasis on cleansing and love is a lot like the repentance and love of Christianity, and the emphasis on the universe existing only in your mind has a neo-Buddhist flavor. Skeptics may find that the recommendation to make a batch of special cleansing water pushes their envelope one notch too far. A larger stumbling block is that although many spiritual leaders teach the emptiness of pursuing money and material wealth, this book makes wealth a goal, and suggests that you can receive riches by ridding yourself of blocked memories. To talk of spirituality as the source of record-breaking sales of luxury sedans seems somewhat self-contradictory, but the book is otherwise straight new-age self-help, though// getAbstract// appreciates its Hawaiian flavor.

After finishing this book I felt that I received little from it . . not enough meaningful content. I did feel however like Joe was pitching many other products in this book that he has a financial interest in. Knowning what I know now I wouldn't bother reading this book. This bookt didn't even rate a space on my library shelves.

I like parts of this a lot but didn't rate it well because it has little substance. In the very beginning he admits that this book doesn't teach Ho'oponopono and tells you if you want to learn Ho'oponopono go to one of the weekend workshops.
Things I like:
* Uplifting, he knows how to motivate his target audience.
* Gives the stories of others who have used this method successfully.
* Although the focus of this book is money it also shows that this technique can be utilized for anything and everything.
Things I didn't like:
* It felt like work to get to past the infomercials and self aggrandizement. The majority of people on the tape that told their stories were also plugging their products, I wonder if they had to pay for their spot in this book?
* This LONG book only gives you a brief over view of the idea but it's not even an elementary level primer on Ho'oponopono.
* A HUGE concern is that he admits that this technique made him realize that what he taught in previous books was wrong or obsolete.
He says he felt deep concern and guilt because he has taught the wrong information. This was followed by the explanation that the other books can help people at lower levels of understanding. I totally agree with that but if he ACTUALLY believes this and isn't simply making excuses to continue selling & teaching incorrect information then why does he constantly plug those books in this one.
If we're ready for the information that truly works then why try to interest us in information that he acknowledges is WRONG? This is a red flag.

I used this book for class up to Chapter 11, and it wasn't bad. There were lots of excerises, but there were only answers for 5/20 you do in the back of the book. its a good deal to buy from amazon because i bought it used and it worked great for me, i saved a little less than 75$ compare to buying it at the bookstore. So overall, this book is easy to understand and is better used for understanding concepts and definitions but not for excerises that practice what you learn in the chapters.

I'm a gay Republican, and while this book is fantastic on most levels, I cannot bring myself to make more than a half-hearted endorsement of the book because of the author's clear anti-gay bias. While only a couple of points are rebutted -- well -- in some of the chapters, a full sixteen points are "rebutted" about homosexuality, including the utterly ridiculous notion that it's a "lifestyle choice". If Gregg Jackson would get a clue on that issue, this would probably be one of my favorite books, but that particular chapter absolutely infuriates me.
Snappy title you've got there!

The late Jesse Helms once claimed that "Your tax dollars are being used to pay for grade school classes that teach our children that cannibalism, wife-swapping, and the murder of infants and the elderly are acceptable behaviour." Mr. Jackson's book is in the same fearless, truly American, mould. To counter liberal lies, what we really needed was a primer that children could carry at all times. Well... now we have it! This book is especially good for that purpose in that, as others have commented, it arranges the topics in alphabetical order. That makes it easy to find the argument you're looking for (for example, if it's compulsory homosexuality you're currently railing against - just look under "B"). Don't worry about looking stupid if you have to mug-up on something before answering. Just watch the smiles disappear from the faces of the la-di-da liberals when you 'comeback' with one of THESE gems! If you do get flustered in such circumstances - here's a tip. Put your finger on the page under the line you're reading and move it across the page as you read (try not to move your lips as you do this though). By the time you grow up, I'm sure Mr. Jackson will have published an adult version of this book.
Exceptional tool when you just can't put your finger on it.

Exceptional! This book is in the top left hand drawer of my desk at all times. After reading it, I kept it around to use as a great reference guide. Nearly everything your misinformed, left leaning friends might throw at you regarding politics is covered i.e. economics, the war, presidential policies and behavior, seriously, just about anything you can think of. It's an invaluable asset if you like to verbally joust with your liberal buddies. Who knows, you might even be able to bring them around to the right way of thinking! This book pulls no punches and absolutely gets right to the point. You have the choice of quick answers if you just want to pop and go, but following those "quick answers" are in depth, well thought out, factually based explanations. Do yourself a favor and buy it today!

Though I admit I am a liberal, I still like to read and listen to writers and commentators on both sides of the political spectrum. And because I get my information from a variety of sources from Limbaugh to Air America, I have very little respect for Gregg Jackson's "Conservative Comebacks to Liberal Lies". The book is little more than a repetition of conservative talking points, with misleading statistics and half-truths that conveniently omit vital information. Mr. Jackson has an obvious contempt for the intelligence of his readers, as evidenced by the numerous false analogies, "facts" about the Clinton Administration that are nothing more than pure conjecture, spin on religion and affirmative action, historical inaccuracies, and outright "whoppers" that would make Burger King proud. Overall, a good book for right wingers who want to reconfirm their preconceptions.

This is a good book, but unlike what the title suggests, it is not a comparison of Christianity with other religions. (For that, I recommend Stephen Neill's book, Christian Faith and Other Faiths, published in the 1950s.) This is more of a personal testimony of why Ravi Zacharias chose Christ rather than the alternatives. As in all of Zacharias' work, there is strong emphasis on the intellectual coherence of Christian faith and on the relation of belief to emotion -- what you believe determines how you are entitled to feel about things.

Ravi has carried the mantle of C.S. Lewis as the voice of christian apologetics in the 21st century. He draws from a wealth of resources not the least of which is his mind.
As his disclaimer advises in the forward, he did not wish to bash other faiths BUT I would have liked a more frequent and in depth comparison to other religions. He did a thorough job expressing the unique christian perspective.
I would read Ravi giving his opinion about the new iphone, high definition television, or restaurant review.

"Jesus Among Other Gods" is a book that is bound to be controversial. I say this first in my review because while most people may understand their religious differences with Ravi, they may not be aware of epistemological differences. Ravi, assuming that absolute truth is within human grasp, directly undercuts that relativistic tendency of modern religious thought. So when you read this book, please take note of this important detail.
A good summary paragraph of this book is "The route I have followed is to present a clear difference between Jesus and any other claimant to divinity or prophetic status. I have taken six questions that Jesus answered in a way that none other would have answered." (ix of intro)
The six questions which Ravi sees through the eyes of Jesus are: 1) Addressing a heavenly home 2) The anatomy of faith and the quest for reason 3) A Taste for the Soul 4) Is God the source of my suffering?
5) When God was silent 6) Is there a gardener (resurrection and life issues) Through these issues he tries to establish that Christianity is a faith with unique answers. Page 7 is the definitve push toward this thesis and path the book takes.
And here I think any true student of religion will be hard pressed to deny that the major world faiths sustain some significantly different truth claims. Some examples in the book that illustrate this well are:
Kharma and reincarnation are indispensable beliefs to the people of the East, Hindus and Buddhists. Compare this to Muslims, Christians, Jews, and agnostics/atheists who overwhelmingly believe that we live once.
Even within the ranks of similar religions there are disagreements. Though both Muslims and Christians are monotheists,a Muslim's view of Allah and the trinitarian view of Christianity are very different.
I have to agree with the idea that the religions of the world have some fundamentally different philosophical assumptions and ultimate life goals for their respective adherents.
Meanwhile, this book is written less in a formulaic and logical hardliner format. It is a personal book. Ravi recounts experiences in his own life. It's less a philosophical treatise and more of an essay. At times I think Ravi could have kept his thoughts more tidily, but his personal style is very endearing.
Also, do not make the assumption that just because he believes Christianity is true that he does not respect other thought systems: "I have walked through temples, mosques, and other religious sites. I have spoken to students at universities in which the predominant religion is not Christian. In the course of this, I have met some very fine and gracious people." (ix, intro) I believe he is sincere when saying this.
I highly recommend this for the more casual philosopher and seeker. I also recommend it for the Christian reader.

The title of this book initially threw me off but as I began to read, I could see that it is vintage Ravi Z. He offers apologetics through a multi cultural perspective but the goal is always the same-to proclaim the historical truth of Christianity. He doesn't ask the reader to believe based on faith alone but through facts about the authenticity of the Bible and the life of Jesus Christ. His personal anecdotes about his relationship with his father and the personal "almost" tragedy that led to his salvation serve to illustrate the state of man's pitiful existence without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This is an excellent book for Christians in any stage of maturity and a great book for those who may not be Christians and have questions about Jesus Christ.

I've been CTO for several venture backed startups for the last few gigs. So if like me you want to prepare an application draft as thoroughly as possible before you call your attorney (and open your wallet) then this book will pay for itself on the first chapter. Like when it comes to having my car fixed, I don't do what the mechanic (or expert) does for a living, but I sure want to understand his rationale and learn from him. That's what this book does for the reader. Take one giant leap forward in undertanding the language, strategy and reasoning of the pros and enjoy the insights and confidence that comes with an enhaced command of the art.

Invention Analysis and Claiming: A Patent Lawyer's Guide As an entrepreneur, I found Ronald Slusky's book supremely helpful! We have numerous inventions at my startup company, and we needed a 'language' for communicating with our patent counsel so that our ideas would be more efficiently conveyed. And Ron's book fit the bill! I highly recommend it to any technology company who works with patent counsel. It will save them a lot of time - and money!

I read this book and immediatly manadated that all of my attorneys read it as well. I also recommended it as essential reading for my law school students. Ron may call himself "old school" but in my opinion his way of thinking about patent claims is the only correct way. I've employed and taught Ron's claim drafting strategies for many years and although I might hate to admit it, I learned a lot from this book.
I wish I had this book when I was first starting out 17 years ago. Instead, I read the claim construction decisions and learned on the job. Claim drafting really is an art form and Ron's book gives you the framework necessary to begin crafting patent claims with a purpose.
I was thinking about writing a text book about how to draft patent applications, but now I'm not so sure I could add much to what Ron has written.

I'm a newly minted patent associate. I've seen other massive tomes around on drafting basics. I'm aware that the bosses rarely have time to initiate a tutorial for the associates. So, what's the solution? I just happened to read an ABA pitch for Slusky's book and picked it up. What a book it is!
It's not easy to take complex subject matter and distill it down into its key components while being educational and keeping the pace light, but dare I say as a novice patent attorney, that Slusky seems to have accomplished just that. I don't know the man, but I couldn't help but think as I read this book that he was standing over my shoulder at my desk, shepherding me along.
It's so clear to me: read with a goal--begin with the problem/solution and keep it in your head throughout your drafting. Slusky's mantra has made it seem so much easier. And isn't that the mark of a good teacher after all, substituting mastery for mystery?
Some people don't learn by reading, but by doing. Fair enough, but this book, unlike its more massive brethren in the field, packs more useable knowledge per page and in an enjoyable style to read, than the others ever could.
Thanks. I feel ready to tackle the most challenging of patent apps!

Some people don't learn by reading, but by doing. Fair enough, but this book, unlike its more massive brethren in the field, packs more useable knowledge per page and in an enjoyable style to read, than the others ever could.
Thanks. I feel ready to tackle the most challenging of patent apps!

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn to draft valuable, enforceable patent claims. The book is very well written and very clear, and the examples are thoughtfully chosen. I learned much of what I know about elevating patent prosecution to an art form from the author, and this book contains his expert insights. I have personally benefited from this book and intend to buy it for each of my associates.

This book was disappointing for a college level reference. Perhaps better as a basic introduction, but not demystifying as promised.

I'll admit I was turned off in the first few pages of the book with a section that characterized medical insurance as a "game" and all-but accused medical insurers of deliberately delaying claims payment in order to make money, using an example that doesn't make any fiscal sense anyway.
Clearly, the authors have the "insurance is big business screwing the little people" agenda. Thus this book is not useful to anyone actually looking for a balanced or in-depth view of the medical reimbursement industry.
But for someone who's looking for a general introduction to medical office practice as seen from the eyes of the "little man" doctor, this is not a bad first choice. The roles of the various players in the office are correctly explained except for the frequent incorrect use of "medical insurance specialist." Clearly, the book is intended to build up those who feel that billing clerks are at the bottom of the office pecking order -- and that's not necessarily a bad thing either.
Anyone who thinks, however, that the book's little coding exam is actually all there is to coding is badly mistaken. The book also has a considerable paucity of information for those wanting to take the next steps.
I can't recommend it.

I have to agree with other reviewers who said this book was poorly edited. How this work could get past the proofreaders is beyond me! Perhaps they were in a hurry to get it published....That said, I did find this book very useful as I am considering a career in this area and really knew very little about what I'd be getting myself into. If you know a lot about the field already but want some detailed instruction on how to do coding, this book is NOT for you. After reading it, I have only a general idea of how it's done but couldn't code the common cold to save my life! However, if you're wondering what a medical biller and coder does, why this type of work is essential, and how the biller/coder fits into the big picture with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients, then I'd recommend this book. Even with my frustrations with all the errors, I still do not regret purchasing this book.

"Medical Billing and Coding Demystified" provides a very high-level introduction to the namesake industry. I was disappointed that the first 80 pages of the book provide no information about billing nor coding, opting rather to provide a background of the entire healthcare industry that, as a whole, is only useful to the reader if he/she has never been to a doctor in the United States. Given that the book has fewer than 200 pages of informative text, I argue that the book is fundamentally mis-titled.
The book is also poorly edited, missing various commas and hyphens that would enhance readability, not to mention the authors' collective credibility. In one instance, the word "loose" is used where the word "lose" is the intention. These types of errors may seem trivial, but I prefer that my professional refrences be more polished than this one appears to be.

The book presents medical billing employment opportunities, discusses biller's qualifications, introduces the ICD-9 and CPT concepts, teaches how to develop a claim, guides the completion of HCFA forms, discusses electronic data interchange, and offers separate chapters on managed care, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, Medicaid, and workers compensation. Each chapter includes key terms and learning objectives as well as reinforcement exercises and examples designed to help learning the basics of insurance billing.
An excellent entry-level text for those learning about the insurance billing process.

This book is very helpful for Veterans that are filing claims with the VA. I wish this book was available when I put in my claim about 8 years ago.It goes and gives input and resources that I never knew existed. The author explains how the VA goes about denying claims and how a veteran can avoid some of the pitfalls so the veteran has at least a fighting chance of winning their claim.

This is the first book I have read on this subject. It is completely factual and helpful. It is a shame to the country of the United States that lets the VA get away with the things it does to and against the Veterans that have served their country so proudly. I would recommend that every veteran read this book regardless if you have a current need to file a claim or maybe in the future. After reading, contact your Congressmen to file complaints against the VA.
I highly recommend this book.
