this is the easiest most effective way to feel better and loose weight. a buddy of mine got me started on this and you can do it from 10 to 40 days..... i did it for 15, i lost 20 pounds, lost my heartburn trouble and got more energy for work. And NOT once did i feel like i was starving even thought that's all i had for 15 days. Everytime i was hungry i just drank more. And with work i am on call 24 hours a day and this was easy to keep up with and saved A LOT of money during the process (since this is all i had when i was on the go). Forget about pills and stuff.. i have tried them all...

I've been doing the Master Cleanser regularly for about 10 years now and I have to say that despite the nay-sayers, I find it to be a lovely way to give my body a break and allow some deep healing and cleansing to happen.

Is it easy? No. But now I actually sense when my body wants this little vacation from digestion and it feels really good. I've done this for 3 days (after an initial longer fast) for a weekend tune-up, I used to do this every Monday as a one day per week body rest, and I've done it as long as 21 days. Ultimately, I'd love to do a 40 day version sometime.

I always find that when doing the MC I have loads of energy, sleep deeply and need less sleep and feel terrific in general. The detoxing does result in some not so pleasant symptoms, but knowing it's a sign that you're cleaning house makes it a positive thing.

I don't, however, see this as a weight loss technique, because obviously once you resume eating, even if it were to be obscenely healthy, you will certainly put some weight back on. Most likely all of the weight you lost, but I've observed a lot of these fasts and it seems that people with lots of excess weight to begin with are so loaded with toxins that when they do this some of that weight loss is permanent. A healthier person or someone for whom excess weight is more of an emotional shield might not see the same result. Still, I've seen many people do this purely for weight loss and they are almost always really disappointed at the end. This is, first and foremost, a cleanse.

I must also advise that like others, I can't even stomach the idea of the salt water flush so I turn to the use of Triphala, a gentle but very effective (and not habit forming) nutritional supplement you can take as capsules or tea to move the bowels during the fast. Most of the teas designed for that purpose are habit forming and downright uncomfortable. Triphala solves that dilemma for me because you don't feel any cramping but it does keep things moving.

I also highly recommend going out of your way if need be to find the Grade B maple syrup because I felt a huge difference between doing it with that and with the standard Grade A, which is lighter and has fewer minerals. I just felt less energetic and stable with the lighter syrup.

I've seen a lot of controversy about this cleanse but the bottom line is that there are many paths to wellness and not every path is for every person. if this doesn't appeal to you, chances are that's your body telling you something. Or you might not be ready. Believe it or not, major food cravings seem to diminish or outright disappear by day 3 or so and I've always been able to maintain full work energy and even continue to do yoga and run on this fast.

It's also worth doing this before making any major dietary changes to prepare for the shift. For example, if reducing your intake of meat, sugar, dairy, etc. The sugar part might seem counterintuitive, but on this fast you consume less sugar still than the average diet consists of, believe it or not.

All in all, this is a really great booklet to read and keep on hand. Trust your body's wisdom and when this calls to you, answer. ;)

What can I say about this gem of a book that has not been said. this book is a must have for anyone serious about maintaining optimum health and vitality, I have bought and given this book to so many people and realized I no longer had a copy for myself and had to order another. Stanley Burroughs book certainly will point an individual in the right direction. I can only say thank god this man wrote this gem of a book.

Interesting book. Originally published in 1976, it's short and sweet- and actually held together by two staples. Readers may also know this "master cleansing" diet and "the lemonade diet." Having said that....

What do you do? Drink 6-12 glasses a day of a concoction made up of lemon or lime juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and water. No other foods should betaken during ther full period of the diet.

What's it's purpose? to dissolve and eliminate toxins that have formed in any part of the body

When do you use it? According to the book, when sickness has developed-good for all acute and chronic conditions.

How often? For a minimum of 10 days and up to 40 days and beyond in serious cases. Good to do 3-4 x year.

The book ends with a list of suggested natural aids (such as coconut oil or oil of clove) for various "minor inconveniences" (such as warts, dandruff). A book not to be missed by hardcore detoxifiers, its not for the faint of heart. Other self-help books I enjoyed include The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution.

I did a 13 day Master Cleanse and LOVED it! I had never done a cleanse and was not sure i could do it. I am a yogi and eat very well, but at 47 was feeling a little sluggish and chunky. After meeting three people in different circles that had done it, I thought I'd give it a go! The book was super informative and covered all the bases. I personally felt good to fantastic the whole 13 days, in fact i was energized! I lost some inches, my skin looks great, and I feel amazing! Since then, my son, two friends and their son have started it and love it! This book is definitely a must if you're ready to let go of some old stuff!

The things I learned from this book changed my life. I am a happier healthier me. I feel lighter and I don't just mean weight wise. I was surprised at how healthy I felt and how much negativity I had stored in me that was released after only 10 days. I had so much energy and I was cleansing at the same time.

I have never attempted a fast before. I always thought it would be too hard. This is a great book and really helped me through some of the rough times. It provides answers to all your questions on the Master Cleanse. I don't know if I could have done it without the help.

This book is truly remarkable! I did the 10-day Master Cleanse in May with only the information I got online from Stanley Burrough's book. I had so many questions and nowhere to get the answers until I heard about Peter Glickman's book, "Lose Weight, Have More Energy, and Be Happier in 10 Days". I am now on day 9 of my second cleanse and am so much more confident of what I am doing and am constantly referring to this book to read what others have experienced. This cleanse is so "do-able" because Peter coaches all along the way. The results are amazing! I've lost 6 lbs. and haven't experienced a bit of hunger. I am energized and have decided to make this a 20 day fast. The exhilarating feeling of cleansing your colon of a lifetime of crud is empowering and freeing. Thank you, Peter, for devoting your life to helping we health-minded people with this easy-to-read gem of a book. I appreciate the reasonable cost, too!

I did it!!!

Losing weight and having energy is the main reason I tried this cleanse but wow, all the benefits I received on top of that was amazing and just the reason why I do this cleanse every three months. The first time I did the cleanse it was hard; I only had the book "The Master Cleanse" but, the second time I did the MC, it was much easier because I purchased this book "Lose Weight, Have More Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days." This book helps explain the process a little better and is very encouraging. In my opinion, you must have both books to be successful in the cleanse. Thank you Peter!

This book provides a very detailed explanation of all the affects of Liver and Gallbladder congestion. Andreas comes across as very knowledgeable and experienced in this area. Even though you can find the recipe for a cleanse on sites like curezone, it is very helpful to become fully informed on the reasons for the cleanse. I had heard of this cleanse years ago, but didn't actually have the "guts" to do the cleanse until I read this book.

I bought the book in January'08. I read and re-read it several times, was
a little concerned: would I do it right, would it work? Finally on May 23rd I did the first one with good results. The second one was June 20th with excellent results. The epsom salts is nasty, the oil and juice isn't bad at all. I recommend it to anyone. I used to have a dull ache on my right side that is now gone. I'm on the fourth day of juice now with the cleanse to occur on the 11th, and have cleanses planned until June 2009. Read the book several times-I still read it over and over.

This book was not helpful. It was mainly an autobiography of the author and what the master cleanse did for him and his practice. It should have been a book about the technical aspect of the cleanse, but it was more a book about the authors belief's. Don't make the mistake I made, buy the original book, by the man who made up the diet. The author freeloaded off someone's ideas and he made money doing it. The lemonade diet or master cleanse was a very good experience for me, but the book was not.

Well rounded holistic book!

Tom Woloshyn's book is informative; went beyond the Master Cleanse detox program; the author also included a chapter on color therapy and affirmations which I found useful and informative as it enhances my focus on wellness. I found about this book on a messge support forum www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/mb/lemonade that has great information and a supportive group for those who are on the Master Cleanse diet.

Get this book if you want to understand how to be successful doing the Master cleanse. I would get the original book by Stanley Burrows also.. but this is a must .. there is so much not in the actual Burrows book that this book tells you. It is a must. I know the author personally and he is the one expert who has all the answers...

Requires some filtering, but ultimately decent.

I had been thinking about detoxing for a few months now and found out about the Master Cleanse on a web forum I participate in. This book provides all the steps you need to do the cleanse, some very helpful information from the experience of the author, and then a lot of one sided extra information I could've done without. The first 50 pages are really just the author talking about his career, and what foods he believes people shouldn't eat because of the toxins they leave behind. It's just my opinion that people who want to Master Cleanse already have an idea of why they need to detox. Although he did credit Steven Burroughs for his original work, I felt the author wrote in such a way (in the beginning)that would lead people to believe he's had a great deal to do with the development of these fabulous ideas like the Master Cleanse and Color therapy. I'm also a little skeptical of his concrete understanding of medical conditions, particularly his claim that the Lemonade Diet and some other adjuntives completely cured his wife's cervical cancer. I only purchased the book because I cound't find the original Master Cleanser by Steven Burroughs. I'm still going to order it. Ultimately, this is a very useful book because it tells you how to get the most out of your cleanse, what to expect, and what to do if you're not seeing the results you desire. If you're like me and you really want to find out how to Cleanse, skip the first fifty pages and get to the good nitty gritty.

This book has a ton of great insights about disease prevention. Doctors rarely, if ever, provide information on prevention because prevention is not profitable for either hospitals or big pharma. If everybody took a little more time to understand how their bodies work, we'd have a lot less disease in our society. Prevention is the key to good health and you truly are what you eat. We can't expect to fill our bodies with garbage and expect good results.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to live a vital, disease-free life. Read the book and buy a copy for someone you love. Don't rely on doctors to keep you healthy. You can only rely on yourself.

I also highly recommend The Coconut Miracle. If you do nothing else, please introduce coconut oil into your diet and you will see amazing results.

I have been fasting/detoxing for many years. It is a passion of mine, and I don't have many interests in my life that I consider passions. Fasting/detoxing, some have claimed, is a gift you give yourself. I truly agree with this proclaimation.

Of all the material I have read about detoxing...this is the most insightful, through, and overall, best source.

This book is not full of religious quotes like a lot of detox/fasting books, although Fife does mention that many religions believe in fasting for clarity and health. This is a more scientific approach.

There are a lot of pictures, the columns are set up in a fast-paced reading style, and the stories and inspiring.

I've read countless books on health and cleansing and this still stands up as one of the best I've read. It has more information than any other detox book I've read, and gave me invaluable new sources of cleansing and healing the body, which led me to new routes of research on the internet and finding some very excellent health web sites and products. *Spoiler* The rebounder works wonders for your health- along with so many other things Fife explained about. I highly recommend this book. I'm studying to be a Naturopathic Doctor, and did many years of research before choosing this route. This is a book I still pick up a couple of years later. I enjoy how much of the spectrum he covers. Health savvy or not, Fife walks you through changing your life, and educates you on many things every health-conscience person needs to know. Great Book !!

As a professional eco-friendly interior designer, I find Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify & Energize Your Life, Your Home & Your Planet by Norma Lehmeier Hartie to be an indispensable tool for my work.

This book started the "green part" of my career. The sections on green living and green products for the home, along with the hundreds of resources, taught me everything I need to know--and where to purchase--green products for the home. There is also a chapter on organic and healthy food and eco-friendly personal care products and on cleaning supplies.

I utilize the tips on organizing and de-cluttering for my clients, too. (For those clients that simply can't get rid of stuff or organize, I give them the book as a gift! It works!)

The sections on Feng Shui are fantastic. Hartie makes difficult concepts easy to understand and execute. I also appreciate the fact that she takes Feng Shui into the 21st century and advises based on Western culture what makes sense. Superstitions based on eastern culture from 1000's of years ago are replaced with down-to-earth and timely advice.

As an interior designer, color is a big part of my job. Hartie incorporates the psychology of color into decorating and this works really well. For example, cool colors like purples and blues work best in rooms that need quiet--like bedrooms--because they will decrease your blood pressure and allow you to rest.

The book has tons of information, but it is easily understood and includes a good index for future reference.

Harmonious Environment is a must-have!

Harmonious Environment: Beautify, Detoxify & Energize Your Life, Your Home & Your Planet, by Norma Lehmeier Hartie, is an indispensable reference book for anyone who cares about their health and well being and for the future of the planet.

Hartie concisely covers a wide range of subjects and includes a comprehensive listing of advisory organizations, product and service resources. Part I of the book, "Banish the Ugly from Your Life," is a blueprint for green, sustainable living. Discover how to replace toxic and unsustainable products from household cleaners to food (including recipes) to furniture to personal care products with safe, eco-friendly ones. Hartie is the tough but motivational Life Coach in her approach to cleaning, removing clutter and on organizing the home or office.

Part II, "Bring in the Beautiful to Create a Harmonious Environment and Self," includes a chapter on Earth-based spirituality and a fascinating look at the Four Elements (Earth, Fire, Air and Water) and the Medicine Wheel. The core of Hartie's philosophy blossoms in Chapter Seven, "Applying Harmonious Adjustments(tm): Using Feng Shui and Other Techniques for Powerful Results." Unlike other Feng Shui authors, Hartie has experience as a designer and her skills are apparent in this chapter and the following two. She has combined principles of Feng Shui, the Four Elements, color, energy, Vastu, creative visualization, and good design principles that create a unique and eclectic approach to home decorating. Finally, Hartie provides guidance on how to manifest personal or professional desires.

In Part III, "Putting the Pieces Together," Hartie skillfully integrates the many subjects of the book into a unified and cohesive whole.

At its cover price of $19.95, Harmonious Environment is a value alone for the comprehensive green living product suppliers in the Resources section.

What makes this book so truly ambitious, however, is what lies beneath the surface. In a sense, this book is only marginally about decorating ones home per se; it is a tome about personal transformation and about saving the earth. A theme that runs throughout the book is that all beings on earth are interconnected energetically. It is empowering to read that each person has the ability to manipulate their homes and self to both raise the collective energy and to manifest their own desires. Motivational, enlightening and well organized, Harmonious Environment is one remarkable book.

The most impressive aspect of Harmonious Environment is the cover of the book. I found the information to be very basic, idealistic, or common sense. If someone has lived in total chaos and now wants to morph into harmony, this is the book for you! If, however, you're already seeking harmony in your home, I would not recommend this book to you. Harmonious Environment is a primer and only for beginners.

This book has a little bit of everything - feng shui, zodiac signs, dowsing, recipes, and organizational tips. It's so full of information it can be a little overwhelming, but she does organize the book very well. I enjoyed the food recipes and the recipes for natural cleaning solutions. The author also states that dogs prefer positive energy and that cats prefer negative energy, which I have long suspected.

The book has too much of a mystical hoopla vibe for me, though. I stopped when she got to the section about the negative effects of tampons on my spiritual energy or whatever.

After purchasing this book in June, I did the Urban detox and lost 5 pounds, gained better sleep and just felt a lot more energized. Where does the bloat go? I don't know, but within 2 days my stomach was flatter than it had been in a long time and with no crunches!
I have to do a lot of travel for work and I brought the book along - it's the perfect size and weight - on my next trip. I found I could actually use some of the day fasts and other plans while on the road. Instead of gaining weight due to odd hours working and being away from my own kitchen, I actually lost 3 pounds over a 10 day trip. I LOVE this book. There is variety, great tasting foods and I feel like I'm learning how to keep my body in tune. It's not all clinical and it really is kind of fun to try out the different regimes. I know they are safe, well researched and tested and that Adina Niemerow knows what she's doing. This is no fad approach. You can use the ideas and cleanses in this book in your real life. It's so much easier than I thought to really learn how to live and eat a better way. And who doesn't want to lose the bloat and unbalanced feeling you get from travel, stress and "holiday" (ok, weekend party) eating and festivities? Try this with some friends. It's easy and really can be fun!

Super Cleanse is the best book I've ever read or used on cleansing. It is packed with truly delicious recipes for juices and cleansing foods that one can use to cleanse or to also easily incorporate into everyday living. The author makes the process fun and easy. I did the Urban Revitalizer cleanse after being overworked by ongoing business travel, depleted and hooked on coffee and sugar. It was completely amazing. I enjoyed the cleanse more than any other I have ever done because the recipes were delicious, nutritious and sustaining. I lost @ 7 pounds, got off a multiple latte a day habit and felt energized, serene and better than I had in a long time. After studying natural medicine, attending nutrition school and working at a popular vitamin company for the past 10 years, I have read many books on cleansing. This is truly the most useful, inspiring and health promoting cleansing book I have ever read. I highly recommend it for anyone that is interested in cleansing, great tasting healthy recipes or increasing their overall health!

The Little Book of Letting Go by Hugo Prather is a practical book about how to get peace and perspective in your life. It is very practical. Although written by a Christian, it is not preachy or overbearing. Atheists and agnostics would find it helpful too. If you feel you have fear, anxiety, worry, anger, or simply want to be able to stop spinning your wheels so much, this is the book for you. Lots of very specific examples and practical exercises that will allow you to get more in touch with yourself. It can help you to strip away the superficial so you can get down to what's significant for you.

Or, are you allowing your ego to get in your way of being connected?

A great passage in this book is:

"After the great rains, the lion was faced with crossing the river that had encircled him. Swimming was not in his nature, but it was either cross or die. The lion roared and charged the river, almost drowning before he retreated. Many more times he attacked the water, and each time he failed to cross. Exhausted, the lion lay down, and in his quietness he heard the river say, 'Never fight what isn't here.'

Cautiously, the lion looked up and asked, 'What isn't here?'

'Your enemy isn't here,' answered the river. 'Just as you are a lion, I am merely a river.'

Now the lion sat very still and studied the ways of the river. After a while, he walked to where a certain current brushed against the shore, and stepping in, floated to the other side."

Some of my most favorite quotes from this book are:

1. "We only need to be as we were created -- effortless, present, and free."

2. "Guilty and remorseful thoughts do not help, heal, or comfort the person you think you have hurt. In effect, you are simply making the same mistake all over again; you attacked this person; now you are attacking yourself. Attack is the problem, not the answer."

3. "What do I believe that makes these circumstances important enough to be upset?"

4. "If I imagine this situation deteriorating or this person's behavior getting worse, what specifically do I see happening to me?"

5. "Some things are simple, and here's one of them: You can either relax and let go of your life, in which case you will know peace. Or you can try to control your life, in which case you will know war."

6. "Awareness, more than any other factor, is the key to cleansing your mind and making it whole."

7. "True communication is remembering that everything is relationship --- that, regardless of the appearance, no one stands alone."

8. "I see what I decide and react as I choose."

9. "As someone said to me recently, 'The next time you think there is some situation you can control, try doing it when you have diarrhea.'"

I chose this book because being fully in the present moment, no matter my history or lack thereof with my interlocutor, gives me choice.

As I read this book, I was happy to have found many places where I agreed with Hugh Prather, and some places where I wrote in the margins that I disagree.

One part of this book that was of particular interest to me was the exercise that Prather takes readers through in how to be socially involved with difficult people (breath your way into responding to who you are, in the presence of who that 'difficult' person is).

This is a book that I didn't want to put on the book shelf, amongst the books that I've read, because I felt compelled to look back through many pages, where I've highlighted things that I will apply in my life.

A great book to inspire you to take another look at your health from a different angle. Not for the fainthearted but if you are serious about detoxification then this is the book to get you going. It relies on herbal remedies which can be purchased from many different sources other than the authors. Richard Anderson is definitely enthusiastic about his subject and has studied it for years, he may be a little over the top by the end of the book but he clearly believes in his work. The cleanses themselves will restore your body's natural processes and unleash your inner beauty and ability to heal yourself. Transformational on all levels.

I have read only halfway through this book, but it is very informative. I have enjoyed what I have read so far.

I have been researching fasting, cleansing, and detoxification for a while now and ran across this book. From the site it sounded like the all exclusive answer to your cleansing questions... however, there is a huge flaw. It talks about two formulas to use in "the cleanse", and it doesn't give you those formulas... instead you have to go to the website that sells the products at a not so reasonable price. I was immediately disgusted with the fact that this is actually and book length ADVERTISEMENT, not a book. It may give you some great facts, but it is fluff for the sell of his products. Well, beware... there are much better books out there like Daniel Reid's "Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity" that cover the topic of cleansing and much more. Be wary of any book that withholds information for no good reason besides profit.

What an amazing book! It explained so many mysteries that we all take for granted, such as why are you not able absorbed nutrients as well as you age?

Per a well known alternative Cancer Doctor, this is the bible as far as instestinal Cleansing.

I am very glad I purchased this book.

Dr. Anderson's approach gets down to the basics of how the human body works and makes it easy to understand why our bodies are so full of toxins and poisons. For the first time I really understand how things we consume, breathe, or absorb into our bodies affect things on a cellular level, and it's very shocking to realize all the damage we do to ourselves. Wake up and educate yourself! Although I didn't do his particular cleanse, I've done others, and it really makes a difference in how I feel, look, and live. This book is a must-have for anyone interested in making a difference in their health, or for anyone interested in holistic, natural lifestyles.

I bought Glickman's book and CD with the intent to read about the cleanse when I had downtime between appointments, etc. And, I'd listen to the cd during my commute to work, etc. I would not recommend the book. (See my review about the book.). I definitely would not recommend the CD either because it is poorly organized in its presentation of the program. Glickman seems to be in conversation with some guy who sounds like a paid DJ. The information was also repetitive in nature such that I got the impression that Glickman was using up "air time". However, I give Glickman his "props" for being creative enough to dawn a CD about the cleanse.

A must-have guide if you've tried and failed

Having attempted the Master Cleanse years ago with disappointing results, I was skeptical when a friend recommended that I try again with the aid of Peter Glickman's CD. Well, I thought, I'm another fifty pounds heavier than before with about half the energy I had then. And my doctor is threatening to put me on blood pressure meds if I don't lose weight. What did I have to lose? I'm so glad I took the advice and ordered this excellent CD. In just an hour or so of easy listening, I realized that I had misinterpreted some critical instructions in the book, virtually guaranteeing my aforementioned failure. I now begin again with renewed optimism. Thank you, Mr. Glickman.

If you bought the book "Master Cleanser" don't bother buying the CD. It is a waste of money, as he is not really adding anything new. The book is $5.

I am so thankful now that I have the tools to become a healthier person. When I first heard about the cleanse, I had to go buy the CD right away. Peter does a great job of telling you exactly how to follow the cleanse to get the best results, along with things to expect from your body during the cleanse, which is so helpful on your first time. I love the CD because I can take it in the car and share it with others. A wonderful tool for improved health and well-being.

This is it!!!

I am so excited about this! I heard about the MC when I was 7 months pregnant with my youngest. Now that he is almost 1 and I am almost done nursing I am so excited to do this! I have a count down calendar and everything. My friends who have done this rave about it and I can't wait to do it myself. I've done so much research and talked to so many people that I know this is what I need to do to get back on track and to clean my body of all wastes and toxins that seem to slowly be slowing me down.
